“Chu” is the Korean onomatopoeia for kiss. It’s used like how we use “mwah”. So that line by jhope means “everyone kisses the sole of my feet after all”.
Suga’s ‘call me a try hard’, the try hard refer to baepsae, a kind of bird and their another group song title. There is a idiom in Korean that baepsae, a bird with short legs have to try hard to fly with birds born with long legs. Bts refer to themselves as try-hard or baepsae to indicate they are not born with wealth and power but tries to break the social system of only those born to own a lot of resources can win in a sarcastic way.
The original word used for "try hard" is baepsae(crow tit), a small short legged bird. It's from the phrase "if a crow-tit walks like a stork, it will break it's legs/groin". It was a term that was often thrown at BTS when they first started out cause they dared to dream big even if they came from such a small company. They have a song of the same title (Silver Spoon/Baepsae). The song is both a response to haters but also a critique on the music industry and society in general. It's a fan favorite for different reasons. Link below contains lyrics and a short explanation if you're interested 😁 ua-cam.com/video/L_hchf9n0K0/v-deo.html
I think he would geek out so hard on Baepsae (for lyrical reasons 😏 even if he doesn’t fully appreciate how hard the choreo goes - but hey their GROINS are SWOLLEN).
I also interpret Try Hard as a kiss-ass. Someone who goes along with the rules and seeks approval. Definitely not BTS. But could see how underground rap scene could think BTS sold out and became try-hards. Haha- BTS had last laugh
The way RM uses the exact same rhyme throughout his ENTIRE verse blows my mind… like every single line uses the same rhythm and ends with the same sound and that just shows insane versatility… he’s shown how skilfully he can switch it up and now he’s steady, riding the same rhythm and flow over and over and it’s not getting any older.
Cypher pt 4 is definitely my favorite, they’re still addressing the haters and what not, but in such a good way. It’s done in such a “i’m done engaging with you, i love myself too much, you should love yourself too”

btw “Mic Drop” is considered to be the unofficial “Cypher Pt. 5” (according to RM) because it’s truly the final words they wish to say about the subject sent throughout the cyphers. You can expect no more cyphers from the guys. They don’t feel these things that they rap about anymore. RM specifically is in a VERY different mental state than he was when these cyphers came out.
"Bae" used here is short/slang for the korean words Sun Bae and Hoo Bae which represents the artists with more experience, and the up and coming generation, respectively. It's likely being used to address the hierarchical structure of Korean society and unkind comments directed towards BTS in general.
Because you really care about the lyrics (which I deeply appreciate) there's something important to know about Haegeum: Haegeum is not only a two-stringed Korean instrument (which is what you get if you Google it), it also means to lift a ban/something forbidden. It's important to watch Haegeum before Amygdala. 💜
I dont know if you know this or not but Suga asked us to watched the mv from daechwita to haegeum and then close it with amygdala. It tells you a story like you watch a movie. Idk man he's so genius!
I've been quietly watching for a while but I wanted to appreciate how perceptive you are. Its been interesting watching and listening to BTS again with you. Thank you for taking time to understand the songs!!
What I like about the cyphers is hearing them go from feeling like they have something to prove, to sitting in their influence and reminding the listeners and themselves that we just need to love ourselves.
Cypher pt 4 is their way of saying we don't have anything left to prove to anyone. They're done addressing the haters they're on top of the foodchain they're above the hate and judgement. They made it. The best part of them performing this live is listening to the entire stadium of 60k+ people chanting "I love myself"❤
"Im always thankful for not earning anything easily" hits so hard everytime I hear it. Oh man you're going to love "What do you think?" when you get to more of Agust D's tracks. Thanks for the reaction and much love to you 💜
Growth. This is a word that strongly applies to BTS's and its members's music. If you explore their discography chronologically, you'll find that they grow in many ways: * Their skills in rapping and singing and dancing * Their lyrics * The themes of their songs/albums * Their views of the world Just look at their diss tracks. "Cyphers 1-3" (2013-14) are aggressive clapbacks at haters. By the time they wrote "Cypher 4" (2016), they're able to ignore haters and even tell them to love themselves. "Ddaeng" (2018) flexes in a playful manner. In "Ugh" (2020), haters are no longer important, and the song instead is a social commentary about the role of anger, including anger spewed by haters. This personal and musical growth is in full display in RM's and Suga's solo work because their work span a long period of time. Their first mixtapes -- "RM" (2015) and "Agust D" (2016) -- are angry and ambitious, keen to prove themselves as legitimate artists (to their detractors from the underground rap scene who say they're no longer rappers after joining BTS). Their second mixtapes -- RM's "mono" (2018) and "Agust D's "D-2" (2020) -- are contemplative as they navigate their mid-20s and search for themselves. Their solo ablums -- RM's "Indigo" (2022) and "Agust D's "D-Day" (2023) -- show them maturing into their adulthood, generally at peace with themselves. RM's mixtapes and album in particular are starkly different from one another in terms of sound. J-hope's work -- Hope World (2018) and Jack in the Box (2022) -- also shows growth, but in a different way. In his mixtape, J-hope stays mostly within his sunny persona, but in his album, he readily explores the darker sides of the world and of his mind, with more experimental sounds.
Yes, "Baepsae" (try-hard) is definitely a staple BTS song. The social commentary of that song is still relevant, the beat, the performance, the rap flows, the vocals, Great song.
Seeing someone appreciate these lyrics is my favorite thing. I could see the wheels of deep contemplation churning in your eyes especially at Suga's last verse "not my fault your life is noncommittal" 😁
Suga is the savage that will tell you in your face you are sh!t, RM is the filosopher that will explain you why you are sh!t, J hope is the sunshine that will tap your back and tell you is ok to be sh!t but you need to move on. Because in the end, you cant control their sh!t :DD
They stopped the CYPHERS once they decided they didn't need to spend time adressing the haters anymore. MIC DROP was that turning point (check the lyrics), which is why it's such a sassy and "showy" song with a powerful performance. Anyway, that was supposed to the end of the dissing tracks. Which is why we were all surprised when Ddaeng and UGH! dropped haha. The cypher spirit lives on :")
i'm sure someone has said already but it deserves to be said again - there's something incredible about having a few kids from Korea getting soldout stadiums around the world to scream "I LOVE MYSELF"
You hit it when you said that their lyrics make you reevaluate your life. That is really what has made BTS so resonant with many. They inspire not by being perfect, but by being vulnerable, sharing how they struggle and overcome struggles, and being thought provoking. There is a reason they have the fan base they do. They are inspiring people not to be carbon copies of BTS, but to be the best imperfect best we can all personally be. I enjoy you discovering what resonates with you in their music! 💜
The Part 1 was them picking the fight back, Part 2 was them attacking the hate, Part 3 was them knocking the haters out and Part 4 is dusting themselves off and giving a bit of advice after they wiped the floors with the haters and demonstrating their moving on/no longer holding on to the negativity they received. There's no choice to make, it all depends on your mood. You will find that with a lot of BTS' music. So glad you enjoyed these, looking forward to your next reaction. Welcome back!💜
I love Pt. 3 a lot but I’m gaining an appreciation for this one too. They show some true maturity. They’re not bothered by haters in this one. They understand the sorry mindset behind the toxicity and seem to wish people would better themselves but they can’t force anyone to do it. Just drop some gems but it’s up to you to apply them.
The "chu" in J-Hope's verse is Korean for kiss (or the sound of a kiss, I'm not 100% sure), so he's talking about someone kissing his shoe, you can hear the kiss in the track 💜
I really like that you get it. It's evident that you really love music because you can listen to these songs without much info and just the translation but you really get the essence of it. What they want to say, the beat, their flow and how each rapper have their personality in their verse. And you get it and we love to see it! Welcome back and thank you as always! Also bts has mentioned that they would probably retire performing the cyphers in concerts. And I think it's bcoz since these address the haters and BTS is in position where they're not mad like that anymore and haters no longer matter that much so they no longer feel like that. You're on point on that too!! Also Yoongi saying "Please be healthy" is really the best thing to tell haters. It's telling them "Hey please be healthy and live a long life so you can continue to see me succeed." yes tell them yoongi hahaha
I found you from On the Street but stayed because you have become one of my favorite reactors. While I am a proud Army, I also like all your other reactions too (I come from the rap scene) I came into BTS also through the rap line first. The more you fall down the rabbit hole the more you will see their pull on everyone. Keep it up and keep being real. I love it!
These guys will inspire you, make you rethink your life, empower you and heal you, if you only let them. Sorry for the haters that are going nowhere fast. ARMY outnumbers you and has build a virtual forcefield around BTS. You can't touch them! Thank you GameBoyy 310 for your amazing reaction.
The way my love, respect, and appreciation for the rapline just doubled, tripled, xx-ed in size after this one. Phew, man. So happy to see you appreciating them too.
They did Ddaeng and Ugh! which are, to me, continuation / evolution of the cyphers. What blows my mind is how early in their discography the cyphers were.
I was there on the opening night of the Agust D | Suga tour and he had everyone go back after he did his bit from cypher part 4 to repeat the chorus and there’s genuinely nothing more empowering than an arena of 19k people shouting “I love myself” at the top of their lungs. I definitely feel what you mean when you said hearing their songs makes you reevaluate your life a little
I love Cypher pt. 4 because it's like a soft farewell to haters. They acknowledge that the people who hate them will always be there but while they are spending their lives being hateful, bts are progressing their careers and succeeding and telling people that they should move on and love themselves bc their hate gets them nowhere in life except self deprecation. It's such an adult way of progressing through life as a celebrity always in the spot light.
JHope's part of the cypher is full of Korean sayings and slang, so that's why something can come out confusing, but yeah, 1VERSE is one of his songs, there he raps on the instrumental of "El Chapo" by The Game & Skrillex. Honestly I really recommend it, because it's 🔥🔥🔥
Hobi's verse "everyone chu at my feet" chu as the sound of kissing, he's saying they'll kiss his feet anyway, if you listen closely he made kissing sound right there too 💜
1Verse is JHope solo rap track. Baepsae -crow tit , It is a short legged bird which describes the millennials, it can be translated as try hard due the saying that no matter how much Crow tit would try they wouldn't be able to keep up with storks. I really recommend this song Baepsae as well known as Silver Spoon. For the future if You would decide to react or even watch on your own this song , you would hear the word 노력. As 노력 which means effort it has became a label that describes millennials . Baepsae is the word which was like a label placed on BTS in their early years. Where their ambitions were laughed out.
That the thing with BTS. Whether it's the entire team, the rap line, the vocal line, or a mix...you don't and can't pick a fave...you just enjoy and listen to the music. They have toooooo many songs that are beyond good. Love the reactions and the way you break this down and what you get out out of the song or your interpretation. 💜💜💜
I found your channel recently and I absolutely ADORE your intricate deep dives into their music: you discuss the lyrics, the music styles, the layers to the way the music is mixed, all of it, and with so much damn PASSION. As someone who studied singing from elementary school in a classical sense, and branched out into other types of music as I grew up and only discovered rap and hip hop as an adult, I’m absolutely loving learning more via your breakdowns and your enjoyment makes me love music even more. Thank you!!!
J-Hope’s double entendre with “chu” because it’s like the sound when you kiss or blow a kiss, but also “chew” like eat ‘em up. I’m so excited for you to check out D-Day! Got to see him in NYC and he was incredible - he’s got LUNGS for spitting and vocals. I hope you get to see him on the west coast 🙏👀
Let me just say that out of all the new “bts reactiors” that started to come out after the Jhope x Jcole collab you truly the realest one! The realness that radiates out of you when you react to them is dope af ! You know your stuff. I think all the others are doing it for clout now 😆 you cool af tho! Love your channel ! 💜💜💜
The biggest line in Suga's verse for me is the laat one when he yells haters to live healthly.......i just think ending such a dope verse with that line on a CYPHER is just wild and one hella flex
I found BTS way after the Cyphers so I never thought I'd see them performed live but I just went to see Suga/Agust D in Chicago and he did his verses from 3 and 4. It was still a dream come true even if I didn't get to see the whole rapine version.
I really recommend you to listen to agust d the last.. it has very deep lyrics and he talks about his struggles in the past... And I recommend the album indigo by Rm for you, I think you will really like it.. By the way, I really like to watch your reactions, it is the only one that I can really watch without skipping, the way you talk about their music and paying attention to the lyrics and stuff is very good.. Welcome to bts world 🇧🇷🇧🇷
I'm gonna live in this channel now bro ❤😅 Not that I just can enjoy someone reacting to them so legitimately and truly getting their messages, but also I'm learning a lot with your reactions and analysis. Plus I LOVE YOUR VIBE 💜 P.S. idk if i comment it already, but, welcome to the Army bro 🤜🤛💜
Not sure if anyone has let you know yet or if you've already looked into it, but 1Verse is a song he did. He rapped over The Game & Skrillex - El Chapo beat, and rapped his own verses :)
I'm not sure if this one is the best translation. Anyways, love your reaction man. Imagine the whole stadium screaming "i love myself" when they perform this 🔥 Can't wait for your next videos! Edit: Don't be too pressured by many songs to catch up. Take things in your own pace. We'll check you out, no worries!
3:55 Gotta say im impressed! I was just finished watching your reaction to Cypher 3. Then i saw this thumbnail. Was thinking did you make it to the end. Did you survive? Super love your reaction. I mean never have i laughed so hard and feeling excited just from watching reaction videos lol. Thank you bruh for your time.
I came from Tik Tok to see the full reaction and I love how in depth you go about it, there’s so much to this song than the beat and rap style, the way they are addressing their haters in a positive way says so much about them and how they’ve actually learned to love themselves enough to not let it bother them and keep growing
Lol I love how you mentioned this was less about the fast flows right before suga comes in like a tsunami. The way I hear it, RM and j-hope are using a much more slow and restrained cadence and flow that builds up tension over two verses. The equivalent to audio foreplay and Suga comes in with the climax. He unleashes that tongue technology that has even more impact after the tension that was built. The most amazing thing about BTS is they not only have three phenomenal individual rappers, but they have a solid rap TEAM and they work together sonically and lyrically to deliver an amazing track. That's why they'll always be the best!
I'm not gonna lie, Cypher pt4 feels like a great closure to the Cypher series. They don't have anything left to address to their haters, if they do they can do it in their solo projects but now when it's just the 3 of them they can do something different like Her or Ugh, so I'm fine with pt4 being the last one
Yes, I bet being there in person and hearing over 60k people yelling, passionately, "I love myself, I know myself." I bet thats so absolutely amazing to witness, and probably something you will never forget. Honestly it reminds me of how at Hobipalooza the crowd of 100k or more were singing along with jhope while he was singing =equal sign Singing "Same". I wasn't there in person, unfortunately, but even just watching it, I still remember just being lile oh my goodness 😯🥹 That is something truly beautiful. Truly!!! And so rare. But I wish we could get people together to celebrate like that more often, because that is real beauty right there! It is definitely a memory that has stayed with me, in a strong and meaningful way.
The official music video for Haekum, the new Agust D release, has English subtitles (just turn them on). Don't miss that mv. But I don't recommend reacting to the Amygdala mv unless you display a trigger warning and come with huge respect and understanding. Also, stay safe with your own mental health on that one. We're all here. With BTS you never walk alone. (It's okay to need support. Seriously, Amygdala can be triggering. Going in with supports in place is important.) 💜
You know, I love the way you explain things about rap styles and the enthusiasm. You've become one of my very favorite reactors. Love from the East Coast :)
You are among my top 3 BTS commenters, and lately I feel as if I've seen way too many of the rest! You're a whip-smart young man, very intuitive, and easily as enthusiastic as we are! Some long-time reactors seem to have ended up being WAY too fawning, and say things like "They're great because they're BTS!" and you appear to come from the "They're great because they're great!" crowd and that's why I am enjoying your journey--you're objective! Keep up the good work!
I think you are going to see him!! If so, you are in for it!! I saw him both nights in NY and it was amazing!!!! The vibe & positivity ARMY bring is incredible! Take time and chat with ARMY, it is part of the experience!
The best part of Cypher 4 is them performing it live. You have to check out the performances. Seeing AgustD perform his verse in Cyphers 3 & 4 at his concert a few days ago was like a bucket list dream come true.
RM can be snarky, and I love it! Not just in his rap verses, but also when he's had enough of interviewers asking the same questions over and over (or asking something really ignorant/stupid). If you look at non-music content on your own time, definitely check out some BTS interviews. As a bonus, you can check out all the chaos in the background - sometimes it's more fun to look at the ones who aren't talking. 😂💜
Yes, the Cypher medley live is amazing. This is sarcasm with so much style and doing peace with haters. I do not hate you cause I love me so much. And then some amazing Agust D
“Chu” is the Korean onomatopoeia for kiss. It’s used like how we use “mwah”. So that line by jhope means “everyone kisses the sole of my feet after all”.

1VERSE is a song JHope did solo. It's really good and I highly recommend it!!!
I've been quietly watching for a while but I wanted to appreciate how perceptive you are. Its been interesting watching and listening to BTS again with you. Thank you for taking time to understand the songs!!
Thanx for tunin in 💚🙏🏾
What I like about the cyphers is hearing them go from feeling like they have something to prove, to sitting in their influence and reminding the listeners and themselves that we just need to love ourselves.
Before you watch Amygdala, just know whatever he's saying or showing in that music video is true, it really happened to him in life.
Except for the scar...that is a visual. Just a side note.
"Im always thankful for not earning anything easily" hits so hard everytime I hear it.
Oh man you're going to love "What do you think?" when you get to more of Agust D's tracks.
Thanks for the reaction and much love to you 💜
Much love 💚🙏🏾thank u
Growth. This is a word that strongly applies to BTS's and its members's music. If you explore their discography chronologically, you'll find that they grow in many ways:
* Their skills in rapping and singing and dancing
* Their lyrics
* The themes of their songs/albums
* Their views of the world
Just look at their diss tracks.
In his mixtape, J-hope stays mostly within his sunny persona, but in his album, he readily explores the darker sides of the world and of his mind, with more experimental sounds.
wonderful explanation
To understand "try hard" you must see Baepsae by BTS. And there's a video for explaination of this song. I think you're gonna like it.
Replying to up this comment 💜
Yes, "Baepsae" (try-hard) is definitely a staple BTS song. The social commentary of that song is still relevant, the beat, the performance, the rap flows, the vocals, Great song.
Seeing someone appreciate these lyrics is my favorite thing. I could see the wheels of deep contemplation churning in your eyes especially at Suga's last verse "not my fault your life is noncommittal" 😁
Suga is the savage that will tell you in your face you are sh!t,
RM is the filosopher that will explain you why you are sh!t,
J hope is the sunshine that will tap your back and tell you is ok to be sh!t but you need to move on.
Because in the end, you cant control their sh!t :DD
You know we about to get a Cypher Medley Live reaction right???!
Word brutha. Luv ur work. Peace
yes please! 🕯️🕯️🕯️
Yes please!!!!
YES
Yes please and thank you 😊
They stopped the CYPHERS once they decided they didn't need to spend time adressing the haters anymore.
Well Ugh goes hard but it's more about anger than haters
i'm sure someone has said already but it deserves to be said again - there's something incredible about having a few kids from Korea getting soldout stadiums around the world to scream "I LOVE MYSELF"
Never clicked so fast😂💜
Same I was watching another reactor
@@Xxn0tn4stum1xX me too🤣🤣 then the nofi came and here I am.
Same!
you calling Namjoon "big bro" when he's the youngest is so endearing!
Best song to experience in a stadium, all of ARMY singing 'I LOVE, I love, I love MYSELF!' Powerful communion 🏟️💜
Welcome back!💜
Yes!!!! Yes!!! 1VERSE is a jhope song!!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
No one in the industry is on there level creating music like them💜
John Lawrence - FACTS.
it’s funny when you call Namjoon big bro when Hobi and Yoongi are older than him lol he’s the middle child of BTS
The "chu" in J-Hope's verse is Korean for kiss (or the sound of a kiss, I'm not 100% sure), so he's talking about someone kissing his shoe, you can hear the kiss in the track 💜
Could you please watch the cyphers live versions? I’m sure it would blow your mind
Totally agree
Especially live cypher medley!
YESSSSSS
Someone should put the link of the live video here
Yes please. I prefer the cypher lives separately, but if he does the Medley at least do the BigHit version, not the fan cam.🙏
There is nothing like a stadium full of ARMY screaming “I love I love I love myself” with the boys. Absolute enlightenment.
I love it!
Rm is actually the youngest of the rapline...suga being the eldest 😊
Same here re: how early the Cyphers came out. Cypher 4 is on WINGS, there's two whole album series after that!
i started reevaluate my life when ive heard the song Dope by bts
You absolutely have to see them performing the cyphers live. It is next level
Aw mannn Yoongi is in LA right now… I wish you could go see him!! You would love him live!!! 💜
Were your ears burning? Husband and I were literally like "has he reacted to Cypher 4 yet?!" 😂🎉💜
You definitely need to listen to 1VERSE. I love that song
Screaming along with this at Yoongi's concert was so great.
All the cyphers are amazing, and shows their growth and maturity! I love all of them!
CYPHER 4. Was after they had plenty of stage experience. Its an audience participation Rap and electric live.
I found BTS way after the Cyphers so I never thought I'd see them performed live but I just went to see Suga/Agust D in Chicago and he did his verses from 3 and 4. It was still a dream come true even if I didn't get to see the whole rapine version.
9:54 1verse is a song, it’s a jhope solo song and it’s FANTASTIC, super underrated. I’m obsessed with it
I really recommend you to listen to agust d the last.. it has very deep lyrics and he talks about his struggles in the past... And I recommend the album indigo by Rm for you, I think you will really like it..
By the way, I really like to watch your reactions, it is the only one that I can really watch without skipping, the way you talk about their music and paying attention to the lyrics and stuff is very good..
Welcome to bts world 🇧🇷🇧🇷
Thats the one thing i love so much about bts is thier lyrics have meaning!
'CHU' is the onomatopaeic word for kiss in Korean. He's basically saying they all eventually kiss his feet.
I'm gonna live in this channel now bro ❤😅
Not that I just can enjoy someone reacting to them so legitimately and truly getting their messages, but also I'm learning a lot with your reactions and analysis. Plus I LOVE YOUR VIBE 💜
P.S. idk if i comment it already, but, welcome to the Army bro 🤜🤛💜
Not sure if anyone has let you know yet or if you've already looked into it, but 1Verse is a song he did. He rapped over The Game & Skrillex - El Chapo beat, and rapped his own verses :)
Seeing this live in 2017 in Anaheim was honestly life changing.. the whole crowd yelling I LOVE MYSELF gave me MAJOR goosebumps
When a whole stadium joins in with the Ilove Iove........... it's insane 60,000 fans shouting those lyric's.
Namjoon mentioned at the Busan concert that he wants to do another Cypher, hopefully when they come back they'll have another one.
we all hope for a cypher pt.5 in 2025-2026 and Tae getting his 2 lines in it finally😂
Omg!!! Where have you been!!!! Waiting for this reaction video for so long 😭
I'm not gonna lie, Cypher pt4 feels like a great closure to the Cypher series. They don't have anything left to address to their haters, if they do they can do it in their solo projects but now when it's just the 3 of them they can do something different like Her or Ugh, so I'm fine with pt4 being the last one
Cypher pt4 is my favourite to listen to, and Cypher pt3 is my favourite to watch as a performance
Yes, I bet being there in person and hearing over 60k people yelling, passionately, "I love myself, I know myself."
I bet thats so absolutely amazing to witness, and probably something you will never forget. Honestly it reminds me of how at Hobipalooza the crowd of 100k or more were singing along with jhope while he was singing =equal sign
Singing "Same". I wasn't there in person, unfortunately, but even just watching it, I still remember just being lile oh my goodness 😯🥹
That is something truly beautiful. Truly!!!
And so rare. But I wish we could get people together to celebrate like that more often, because that is real beauty right there!
It is definitely a memory that has stayed with me, in a strong and meaningful way.
Yo bro!! I appreciate you so much bruh! Like literally you're representing all of us ARMYs bruh!!
FINALLY omg I was on a waiting streak on your account 😂😂😂
Chu is like a sound effect for kiss, like mwah. He's like you still kissing my feet.
You know, I love the way you explain things about rap styles and the enthusiasm. You've become one of my very favorite reactors. Love from the East Coast :)
Can't wait to see your reaction to Agust D's Haegeum and AMYGDALA! Though honestly the entire D-DAY album is incredible
Now it’s time for the live cypher medley!!! An iconic performance.
chu is like a sound effect for "kiss" so everyone kissing at his feet
Yes, the Cypher medley live is amazing. This is sarcasm with so much style and doing peace with haters. I do not hate you cause I love me so much. And then some amazing Agust D
There is a time that I have to listen to Cypher pt 3 and 4 every day. My day felt not complete without listening to the songs
