  • In this Video we will replace the engine air filter on a 2016+ BMW G30 5 series
Service interval: approximately 30,000 miles or 3y/36months. If you live in dusty climates consider changing the filter sooner
    Parts: 13-71-8-577-170 Engine Air Filter
    Tools:
    3/8 ratchet: amzn.to/3h9zshn
    - I recommend getting a ratchet with a flex head. This provides ease of movement and more flexibility, especially when used with other jobs
    1/4 ratchet: amzn.to/3VQGdDA
For the 1/4 ratchet using a flex head gives you ease of movement in tight areas and comes in handy for other jobs.
    1/4” extension: amzn.to/3Y95WJt
    E14 socket: amzn.to/3h67T8S
    16mm socket: amzn.to/3VMLhcy
    6mm socket: amzn.to/3izZcnp
    T20 torx socket: amzn.to/3UFxHX0
    T20 Screwdriver: amzn.to/3VXh5em
    Panel Popper: amzn.to/3Y6WciH
    Flat head screw driver: amzn.to/3iJpp32

Once the whole box is out, good luck to whoever is fitting the pipe that brings the air to the air filter housing afterwards😅😅😅😅

Why would you remove the airbox? In fact, I replaced my filter 3 times already, and I did not remove the stabilizer bar neither. It is not necessary, not even the factory procedure mention the removal of these things at all, you can easily access the filter without touching these.

Hello dalloszsolti, the air filter position and others of my G31 looks equal to this video. I tried to change the air filter. But, after removing the screws to open the filter box, I cannot remove the top because of the stabilizer. How do you change the air filter easily without remove the whole filter box or stabilizer? I hope to hear from you, thanks for this. Regards

It may be difficult without removing the stabilizer bar but it is possible. The T20 screws should be unscrewed until you see them hold themselves in place on the top air filter box. This is how you can wiggle it off without removing the stabilizer bar.
I understand this can be difficult which is why I showed the longer way to do it in case you didn’t want to struggle removing it.

@@friendlymechanic9778 Hy, many thanks for your last video. I only screwed out the screws from the top air filter box, the one screw a little bit lower which can fall down is in my opinion not necessary to remove. An of course the open the clamp. Have a good time.

You don't have to remove brace. Super simple....cover comes out with brace in place. No need to remove box. Hardest piece is to break the seal on the tube if not removed in long time. 20 minutes. Screwdriver and t20 driver.

Think before you put a new filter inside, vacuum or at least wipe it down with a towel, since all the dust and grime have been sitting there. Just my personal opinion.

    Hello, just a question
Why you took off the whole airfilter's box out ?
I believe we can take off the top cover only, am I correct?

You are correct. I showed removal because it can be quite difficult with the bar in the way. So I showed some extra steps to help make it easier to remove. But it is absolutely possible without removing the complete air box.

Just for info. How often do we need to replace the air filter.

      Roughly every 30,000 miles
      Every third oil change or
      Once every three years.

What a pain in the neck 😢😢😢… what is wrong with make it more accessible and use fasteners instead of 10000 screws ? …. Thank you
