Delicious food as always. Thanks for showing this. Which village did you stay in? Looks amazing. For future trips, you can get lots of local spices in Italy too: peperoncino (several types, actually), bay leaves, thyme, rosemary, oregano which are easy to find in any grocery store in Italy, even if small. Also for future trips to Liguria, try Fainá (genovese name for Farinata) which is made of chickpea flour. Fainá dates back to medieval times, when Genoese sailors traded with Middle Eastern or North African countries, where Chickpeas were native to their diet. Thanks again for the culinary tour!
Little tip from Italy: after draining your pasta, move it into the pan with the sauce you’re going to season it with, don’t do that directly in the dish. It’s gonna soak up the flavours muuuch better! Love your channel! ❤️
I just came back from Sicily, and a common hotel room breakfast for me was raw smoked tofu on bread with pesto/hummus and pickled grilled peppers too haha!
Try the Farinata! It’s a typical street food of the city of Genova: an exquisite low and golden savory pie made with chickpea flour. You can find it in almost all Ligurian bakeries. Eat it when it is still hot. Obviously it's vegan! Buon appetito!
I second that. It is delicious! You might also find it advertised as "Fainá" which is the local dialect name for this chickpea farinata. It is also very easy to make at home with chickpea flour and (lots of) olive oil 🫒
I really enjoyed this video, thank you ! I live in Sicily.. and im vegan so I understand the struggle with lack of options! You did really well and all the food looks so yummy! Xx
Vielen Dank.
Love your videos💚, I think I heard somewhere that the reason for being hungry after spending time in the pool or the sea is because your body is spending a lot of energy trying to maintain your body heat at about 36.7 ° because the water are colder :)
What a great video Maya! You are really a star in cooking and baking but also a star in filming and editing! Thanks to you I got to enjoy some time in Italy! Even if it is on a screen (laptop), it was really a joy to watch! Curious how your pizza is going to turn out! Xx
Careful in Italy if your vegan diet is strict (especially because of religion) and/or have allergies, because the "vegan concept" is unfortunately still very new and misunderstood by the most. For example you find many pre-packaged products sold for vegan but are actually vegetarian (containing egg/milk - egg protein/milk protein) and fresh food sold as vegetarian that is not even that (bread and breadsticks often contain "strutto" which is lard, and Italians usually use pig fat - the original recipe for focaccia contains strutto and especially in Liguria region is extremely rare to find a focaccia without that ingredient!) so be careful! In Italy as of now it is not helpful to ask if something is vegetarian or vegan, you MUST cite the ingredients. This is very important! I bought focaccia from a bakery in Genova to bring back for some friends in London (one of them is Muslim and three of them are Jewish) and I specifically asked if it was vegetarian, and the answer was "yes", then I asked if it had strutto in it and the answer was an annoyed "well of course that's how you do it"! I also found that some restaurants (in particular those in the south regions or owned by elderly people) often cook using meat and animal fats and truly believe they then have a vegetarian/vegan option because they removed the meat bits, so since you don't actually have the animal parts in your mouth you are not having an animal product. I truly believe most are honest mistakes but I also believe this should be known so that you can think for yourself what it would mean to you to potentially step off your diet. Good thing though, every single pre-packaged food in Italy has a full list of ingredients in their label.
Wow, nice food ideas, gives me really good summer vibes. I would be interested in: how do you deal with food that you are not 100% sure if it is really vegan because for example you cannot read all words in Italian . Do you eat it anyways or do you always do your research until you are sure?
Vegan products are tagged as "vegan": there's a green label with a leaf (usually made up of tiny stars) or a yellow label with a green "V", they are certified by EU.
You do such an amazing Job on your videos, Maya! 😍👏 I believe this is the first vlog of yours that I’ve watched, and your editing is perfect and your personality shines! ✨ Thanks for all the yummy inspiration! 😋💖
thank you for your positive energy, it’s really refreshing in contrast to what’s going on in the world at the moment. 💫 also i’m very jelous of the gelatos! 😩😩😩😅
I suppose it depends on where you are. I read online a lot of negative expereinces about being Vegan in Italy. I am originally from North Italy, now living in Germany. I had less problems eating out in Italy than here.
Yes it is :) I can speak for the northern regions and it was very easy for me to find Vegan options when I lived there ! Most bakeries even have sweet Vegan options (croissant for example) and salty, too. In the restaurants you always find something Vegan so it is not a big deal. All gelaterias have Vegan flavours, too !
finding vegan options in this forsaken land is an ordeal, i'm not vegan but i have noticed it since i'm italian born and raised. Also, bread here is not generally vegan, it contains pork fat

Unfortunately Novella pesto contains parmesan cheese 😭 and pay attention to focaccia cause sometimes they make it with lard 😖
Vero
I love Italy. Wish I had gone more often when we lived in Germany.

Ohhh i really hope you got to try a farinata di ceci while in Genova!!! It's one of the most amazing traditional things that are vegan by default

Boah sieht alles soooo lecker aus 💚💚
Be careful with the bread and focaccia because sometimes(surely focaccia ligure)contains lard(strutto in Italian)
Have you been to any restaurants for dinner/lunch? If so, did they have a lot of vegan options? :D (apart from pizza)
Aglio e olio and noodles with tomato sauce are always an option there :)
Unfortunately not, In italy there are not many vegan options. Salad, potatoes and vegetables😅
Italy is very vegan
I am Italian and no
I suppose it depends on where you are. I read online a lot of negative expereinces about being Vegan in Italy. I am originally from North Italy, now living in Germany. I had less problems eating out in Italy than here.
Can you show us how to make vegan pizza dough? 😊
Pizza dough is always vegan. You don't need a "vegan" version.
Complimenti per il vlog, bellissimo ❤️

You was in Liguria and not eaten FARINATA!?😢...come back soon!!!

Yes it is :) I can speak for the northern regions and it was very easy for me to find Vegan options when I lived there ! finding vegan options in this forsaken land is an ordeal, i'm not vegan but i have noticed it since i'm italian born and raised. Also, bread here is not generally vegan, it contains pork fat
Hallo, das ist ein tolles, großartiges Video. Dankeschön dafür. Mfg
Obst. Also vegan. Kein Tierprodukt in der Produktion :-)

That’s sad going to Italy and eating tofu and hummus.😢
Is she the girl who murdered her sister?
Veganism is rising and thriving while carnism is trying and dying! WE ARE VEGAN! WE ARE STRONG! IF YOU'RE NOT VEGAN WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG!?!??!
Ironically the Trofiette was made by “Centro Latte Rapallo” that means “Rapallo Milk Center” 🥲 (obviously without milk)
Pasta would never include milk...but eggs for sure. This vegan option is obviously without 🥚 :-)
