it's a damn shame all the old american axe companies are gone. scandinavia makes some of the best axes these days, but you can still find vintage american gear and restore it.
I understand why you like this axe, Gränsfors Bruk makes very good axes.
As we use to say here in sweden:
"The Swedish steel bites hard"
Now you say "لدغ الصلب السويدية الثابت"
@danebrewer10 , They seem much better balanced to me than the single bit axe. Also, one blade usually sharpened to a finer edge and the other a little more blunt, less easy to break or dull.
That is a great axe and a wonderful gift. It should last for generations!
In a completely granddad to grandson way...I love you and your videos. They never fail to make me feel better on a bad day.
Hickok you're my hero! I was doing some research on granfors bruks axes and wouldn't you know it you have a video one, it made my day!
You really can't beat a Gransfors! Love them and always will!
happy birthday Hickok45 and best wishes for many more!!
Happy belated birthday Hickok, hope you had a great one.
Happy Birthday Wild Bill Hickok!!! Life is good, Sweeeeet...
Happy birthday Keep the great videos coming. I am a huge fan of wheel guns but your videos sparked my interest in semi-autos. I am woking on getting a M&P .40.
Those are very nice axes! we've got a couple, and they are well worth the insane price tag. Happy B-Day Sir Hickok
Happy birthday Hickok!!! I always thought you were a Viking!!
I have eyed quite a few of these at Highland hardware in Atlanta, good to know they work so well. Very nice ax. Happy Birthday.
Wow, good punch!
Happy Birthday Hickok!
who doesn't love a gransfurs? cant wait to see ur knife collection as well!
Wow. That's a top of the line double bit. Very nice.
I remember seeing that axe hanging up years ago in SMKW I'm omw to go buy one today because God spoke into me his word that it'll be a valuable tool at my disposal, rather than a crucial investment lol. Thanks Hickock never even saw this video in years of watching you with my dad and mom
Nice! This summer I just started tossing the 29 inch throwing version of this double bit axe. They sure make great quality axes. Surprised after just 4 sessions how quick I was able to perform some great throws. Keep up your always prodigious work there Hickok45!
Nice job of chopping. Big GB fan here and I also love to refurb old axe heads.
Happy Birthday Hickock!
Happy Birthday Hickok45, and welcome to sweden anytime!
That's a sweet axe, and not too shabby on the cuttin yourself. Happy Birthday.
@rawkinbones13 , Yes.
I grew up in Michigan; wood heat as a main source in 3 homes. Double bladed axe heads are by far the most natural feeling for me. I love the look this one you used in the video, but I think for the price I think I might just try to forge my own.
Happy Birthday Hickok!
Very cool. That was quality cutting right there, you continue to impress!
That is a beauty of an axe. Generally, a double-bit axe has two grinds; one edge is a felling grind. Called the "keen" edge, it's thin razor sharp, and faster through big wood. The other edge is a trimming or limbing edge, called the "stunt" edge. It's designed to take more abuse--ground with less taper for smaller wood, e.g., taking the limbs off a felled tree, etc.
Whoa! Happy birthday. I got a GB axe for my B-day this year too! Was only a Forest Hatchet though. I'd love one of the dbl bit felling axes myself. They make excellent axes.
Happy Belated Birthday Hickok. Looks like you faired pretty well. Nice axe, but pricey.
Happy birthday! Nice axe!
Where do you put in the cartridges?
in the terrorists just kidding I mean that is a good place to put the bullets
most of my axes were rehab'd after finding them without handles. They are mostly pre 1950 and work amazingly well. Once I rehandle them they get put to work. I just purchased my first new one. It is a Husqvarna made by Bruks.
Happy B Day Hickok45, I would buy you a present if I could. You entertain and educate and the same time, with lots of humor and class.
LONG LIVE TO THE HICKOK45!!!
Happy B-Day Hickok
hickok, if you pick up and master axe throwing, you will truely be a God among men...
Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!
Wow. Great demo.
Beautiful quality tool!
Happy Birthday!!!!
happy birthday hickok :)
Happy Birthday!!
Happy birthday!
@rtn1911 , First thing I did, of course, was to treat it with Ballistol, as well as the leather blade covers.
Happy BD Hicock45 I gotta say I'm in love with knives too. Bought a nice one while visiting Toledo Spain and a dual knife set while visiting Alaska. (Wife was NOT happy about that purchase lol). LIve in the big city so I don't get to do much with them but they are something to see.
Happy Birthday and I am glad to see that eye hand coordination works so well in many applications. If you like knives you might investigate the Glock fixed point knife which might fit your interests.
@ByteMeDammit , All right; you can appreciate the quality then. Nice tools, aren't they? I have the Hunter's Axe, too, which is a really nice camp axe.
Cicada bugs are are loud. Are those cicadas? Must have been singing happy birthday!
I just bought one , arrives tomorrow ,
Life is Indeed good!!
Thanks for vid
For those who think a double-bit axe is too dangerous, please consider that the operator should be as sharp as the axe. Great video!
"Not yet Not in America".......thats a great quote
Hickok45, you are so talented! Ahhhahahahahaha! Oh man you tricked me, that was good. Wow, I am constantly impressed whenever I come here. Awesome lumber work...
I think they should cast you in some sort of pioneer TV show or something. refreshing to see a real American. Happy Birthday
happy birthday!
wow 20k subscribers 8 years ago. congrats on ur success
happy birthday hickok....mines in july too
Love hickok45 and Gransfors Bruk. Being a shooting, hunting and camping family with 5 adult kids we own 7 Gransfors Bruk axes. Really nothing better. Actually I consider them Art Work almost as nice as a Marlin JM Lever Gun.......Indeed.....Life is good..
Happy Birthday.
Can't believe how fast that went. What a beautiful, heirloom quality tool you have there. Wait... is that MY shirt your wearing?
Does it look like the blades were different thicknesses I couldn't tell ones normal thinner for cutting and ones supposed to be thicker for roots or nots or things close to the ground so you don't jack the thinner side all up
@mdlannin , I think it's the gunfire that keeps them stirred up! Since I shoot so much, the cicadas around here over the last 25 years have learned that they have to be louder in order to communicate! :-)
HAPPY B-DAY hickok45!
p.s. you should do a video on a Mauser C-96
WOW! that is an excellent axe!
23 and fascinated as well, I think its not an age thing, just the will to spend some time with a certain item and appreciate the craft and learn how things work.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
& down went the tree!! very nice ax!
This is a great video, I would love to see more "cutlery" videos!
Happye Bday hope its an awesome one!!!!
Happy Birthday
when hickok45 takes out an axe... it means the tree is to big for his 12 gauge
@Bustlead9 , Yeah we bought another Spyderco while in the Smoky Mountains, too.
Happy B-Day!
I'd actually be very interested in seeing axe, knife, or any other cutlery videos.
And I think this is the first video where you trim a tree without a shotgun.
When it comes to bushcrafting, the Swedes are in a league of their own.
@slipknotmittchell , I've had their big Bowie style Trail Master for 10 - 15 years. Great knife.
@AppalachianFreedom , Yes. It's usually the first place we stop over there.
great video hickok
Happy belated birthday Hickok !!! Now that you're 21 we should go grab a drink !! ;) haha
happy birthday.
That's a nice axe my friend. I recently picked up a little Husqvarna hatchet, which is by no means as nice as a GB, but they're nice for the money...very comparable to a Wetterlings, which is like a GB that's a little rougher around the edges, for a little less money. I believe they were actually made by Wetterlings at one time. Now they're produced by Hultafors Bruks, also out of Sweden. Apparently they use the same suppliers for the raw materials. Ground a little different tho. Happy birthday!
20k subs? Wow. You came a long way
That thing cuts really well. I want one,lol
Good Axe swinging skills!👍
Granfors and husqvarna axes are really good,Øyo(Norway) and wetterlings(US is believe) are less known but also really good
+Ardie Reitsma Wetterlings is also Swedish. Their factory is in Storvik, Sweden
Hi Hickok! Would love to see that old axe of your father's, too! Nice vid.
You handled that like a guy who's been around an ax!
Hey Hickok, you're pretty good with an axe. :)
Great for those Viking raids! Keeps those pesky natives in line. I'm sure it would work great on Zombies too.
nice and sharp
Good vid, I like double bitted axes myself. UN, that's the same fellow who made my hunters axe.
We had an axe from them when we lived in Wyoming and oh my gosh it was amazing
Ha. 20,000 subscribers. Can you remember what that was like?
