GNB main here, the opener Wesk shows at the end is the "1-2-3 No Mercy" opener, a very standard opener used by GNB for many fights - its legit! I use it for most fights in savage/ultimate content, so any new players would do well to practice it as it's actually the recommend opener to learn with. Great guide Wesk!
@@vteccomplex more or less - your first 1-3 GCDs will be outside of raid buffs, so no sense immediately blowing your biggest CDs on them. EDIT: As of 6.2, regen no longer gains aggro over time. The initial use still grabs aggro, so it still has some use when trash spawns mid-fight. Original comment below. Aurora is my favorite pulling tool. Royal Guard's enmity multiplier on the regen means you will overpower anything the Healer or DPS does before you can AOE to secure the enmity lead. Plus, it helps patch up some of the damage you take when pulling multiple groups before stopping and popping damage mitigation. It even works if a boss should spawn adds. It's one of my favorite GNB skills because it has that added utility.
Started playing a little bit ago, and your guides have helped me immensely with picking up the game! Keep up the good work and thanks for the content :)
This was one of the issues I ran into when I picked up sage. The job is complex to begin with, plus it starts leveling at 70. I still want to play sage down the line, but I've been playing WHM to get a feel for healing in general.
I'm glad it's my third tank. I leveled Marauder to level 50 WAR, then to level 73 with DRK, then went back and now have GNB to 70. It's my favorite tank job so far.
I know this come out a year ago but I want to say thank you for this video I only have GNB at 61 but the way you have it setup it made learning the opener so much easier to understand and follow that I am really enjoying GNB now keep up the good work 👍
It's amazing how different one can view gunbreaker from a casual view to an optimized, savage raiding view. I've gone over my opener and melds three times over the course of Pandaemonium due to the headaches Gnashing Fang gives me since it's affected by skill speed. No other job gives me this headache because I can't think of another job where a core job skill is affected by skill speed, just mainly the main gcd roll. But it was worth learning the best gunbreaker I can be. Superbolide is much easier to pull off in EW thanks to Corundum, plus playing with Scholars in roulettes is an interesting way to use Bolide proactively when I know Excog is on. I basically learned to use Bolide proactively, when I know my healer hasn't used their big cooldowns yet. Don't have to worry about becoming the Benediction meme if I use Bolide above 50%.
So Machinist is the last one I assume. All your guides are amazing and I love them. Cant wait for the last one. I'm leveling MCH now. Need that hotbar setup. Keep up the great work.
oh that's a good tip! my tank hotbar setups tend to have defensive CDs spread across different modifier keys (ctrl+key, shift+key), whereas i've always kept my AoE stuff on one modifier key... now i realize that those are *both* tools used to respond to big crowds of enemies, and maybe i could stand to shuffle things around so that i'm doing less finger gymnastics
I just started reading the patch notes and I initially thought the Bloodfest cooldown increase to 120s was a nerf until I realized that the new cooldown matches well with the other skills.
I really like this format, it makes more sense than the level by level way for sure. Good call! I just swapped to GNB for DSR (because we're masochists and want to all change roles for each clear) and I'm glad to know I'm not making any egregious errors.

The step by step process is something I greatly value in this format, only combining when absolutely imperative.
This is the first job I’ve managed to get the level 90 rotation down, in terms of opener, filler, and reopener(not counting healers because….yeah). Feels like a good first step being…maybe slightly above middle ground for rotation complexity across all jobs
For me gnb is the most difficult tank for me to play, because the bloodfest cooldown kinda screws with my mind, and i play on controller. Also gnashing fang combo really locks you into a strict rotation. Imo it would have been better if hypervelocity didnt exist and instead added its potency to burst strike.

I'm just starting as tank. But I have a question : (for raid or trial) I'd I have agro from boss with enabled royal guard , when tanks needs a swap each other I should use shirk on second tank and disable royal guard? 😅
In addition, or alternatively, the other tank can drop a Provoke to force the swap. This is useful if your partner gets stunned by mistake just before you need to swap, or if they seem to have forgotten entirely that the swap is necessary.
Hey Wesk, I love your vidoes please keep it up! I have one question that I really want to know the answer, do you actually need to save your cooldown/opener facing a 4 man dung boss? Like for example as SAM do you need to save your Iki/Namikiri/Meikyo or Kenki for the boss or you would actually pop all of those during the wall to wall pull to kill the mobs faster? I think I am always saving it for boss and that might slow the speed my group killing trashes which probably make Healer and Tank's life harder. If I am doing wrong please let me know because I really don't want to hold my partys back and improve my gameplay.
No, dungeons you should be using stuff on CD and in trash. If things don't line up because of that, they don't line up. Trash is always much more dangerous.
In the Level 90 opener can I swap the Double Down and Sonic Break with no effect on later rotation? (and leave the rest the same). Reason being my hotbar setup and muscle memory are used to doing the sonic break first from L80

@@WeskAlber so what i end up doing after the first combo is when theres around 20 seconds left on double down, i'll actually manually build up 3 cartridges with the 1-2-3 combo and its always in time for a full combo reset, aka gnashing into continuation, into double down, then the 4 other ogcd's and so on and so forth.
