@backwatersandbackroads how cool is that! I think a lot of us envious followers hitch hiking along with you would like a video of your favorite part of this adventure so far. I can send a list of questions to start.
That little boat at 30:17 is a Rosborough or maybe an Eastern….likely Rosboroughi I think. Have been enjoying the videos and hubby and I can’t wait to start our Loop in a few years Thanks for the entertainment and inspiration!
One of those less common beagle noises (without screaming on 11) ;) I've seen some sea cows, south of Titusville, I think I got some footage. A fella who lived around there said he use to love them, now they're as common as crows ;) I guess it's time to start eating them again? And did you see those dolphins throwing that fish around?!
That was very interesting about Chico Island. I wish I was a little younger to do what you are doing, wondering around on water ways enjoying nature. I'm 78 years old. I've had numerous boats. My wife and I did a lot of trips in south fla. And keys and Dry Tortugas . We had a ball doing these little side trips while on a short vacations here and there. But not what your doing, I've always wanted to sell house and live on a house boat traveling all over. Wife passed a year ago and I've just been lost after 52 yrs being married. Your trip in your house boat has been good for me to see what you have on your videos. Please keep it up. I love the ventures. Thanks 🧜♂️👌❤️
It feels like a real treat to have a new video 40 minutes long on a Wednesday. I love it❤ Deep thoughts, is I agree that Shanty boat is better than a second land-based home . Most of us do all tend to collect things, so we need a home base to keep things we cherish. But it would be a lot better if we could just free ourselves from all that clutter. Or as George Carlin called it, " Stuff".. which he was absolutely right, since we always bring our stuff with us everywhere we go and and where we go, we end up bringing more stuff back with us. LOL I don't know where you and Wavy are right now, but wherever you are, hope all is going well❤
@@backwatersandbackroads..Wow!, you've been making great Headway Not sure why gasoline is always so expensive in Florida, but right now it's 3:29 a gallon in my little town in Massachusetts
@@IntheBlood67.. that's probably considered cheap in Florida . Prices came down another couple cents here today, down to 3.27 a gallon... although one station is cheaper at 3.25 a gallon and the Gulf station is more at 3.28 a gallon. If we didn't have a gas tax, which is actually a road use maintenance tax, our gas prices would be around $2.80
Another epic video is so many ways, Brenton and Wavey! I love how your opportunity to help popped right up, as if on cue. So beautiful! I have one of those Tik Tok “steal with a phone cord” cars too. Gratefully no one has stolen my POS. :) You help so many of us with your uplifting videos, Brenton…BIG TIME! It was excellent hearing Matt give you and Wavey a shout out on his video the other day. Hi Eva, I heard that the Kia Soul is very easy to steal. Did you know I drive a Scion Xb (the metal tent) like Matt does? His is a 2nd gen, mine is a 1st gen. Awesome cars that run forever. What are you driving that's so easy to steal? You heard Matt give a "Wavey Dog" shout out ;) I emailed him a picture with Wavey's right eye covered. Can't you just hear him saying "ooohhhh noooo" ;)
@@backwatersandbackroads I really love the Scion XB’s and have been looking at them since you and Matt are the smartest guys I know. Plus, they look cool. I have one of the stealable Kia Souls. Tried to get a new insurer this year and gratefully I’m grandfathered in. They said 90 percent of insurance companies won’t insure them because of the theft issue, even with Kia’s recall (I can hear Matt moaning) and alleged “fix”. Tell Wavey to run from that club now!!! She’s too good for the creeps! :) Have a wonderful day, you guys! Me and the kitties send you guys hugs!
@evawinchester6122 Eva, if you can find a 1st gen Scion Xb (2004-06) the "toasters" or box on wheels, they run forever! Hey you 2! I got to see you when you were in Bayou Chico on the little island by our marina, Pelican’s Perch. That’s when I discovered your channel. I heard that was a cool place to visit. There's so much to see, it's hard to do it all. I've all but given up on the official sites, now just where we happen upon ;) wait until you see Duafuskie island
Good video today even with the disturbing elements of people living tough lives. One observation on the non-ethanol fuel. I’m an advocate of using it, especially in my restored motorcycles that sit unridden for long periods, but it’s probably not something you need for the day to day running of your main motor because you’re using fuel quickly and it doesn’t have long to absorb moisture from the air. However it I think it is a good thing to fill up the scooter and trolling motor with non-ethanol as the fuel sits in those tanks for a long time. Cheers
Something to watch out for and I'm hoping it's an isolated event fuel samples was pulled by a boat shop tech one that the person swears they only buy non ethanol and another that buys what's cheapest or most convenient (yes that was mine) the claimed non ethanol had several percent higher than mine my thought is someone is untruthful or a business is being shady.
Nice video. It was a great thing you did by calling the lady about her stolen car. I hope the person or persons who did that, did not do too much damage to it.

You go my speed as well, taking it easy enjoying the scenery. I'm in western north carolina looking to see where I can pick up a similar route down into the gulf. Any suggestions on the kind of vessel you have? What engine do you use? What's your gas mileage like? Very cool. Happy cruising.😊
Howdy. Welcome. Thanks for finding us. There's all sorts of that information here on our channel (480+videos) if I can help with some specific information, email me? In descriptions of videos. We're currently in Charleston, SC headed slowly north
@@backwatersandbackroads Thanks so much, greatly appreciated.I will enjoy watching your videos and getting more knowledge. Admire what you're doing. And I totally agree, a shanty houseboat is a house. I live in a tiny house in the mountains. Had the same thought, instead of buying anything in FL just cruised down there for the winter, for a few months in a houseboat. Happy cruising. Look forward to following your journey...😊
This is a great channel I love watching it back in Australia we have the mighty Murray River and some people live in bigger boats like yours we call them house boats , and there's thousands off them used as holiday homes what a great way to live 👍
There used to be a shanty boat website. They were quite prevalent during the Depression. One of our Presidents grew up in a shanty boat that had been pulled up on land to become a house, a small house for sure.
My thought on traveling the ICW was to plant trees and perennial crops along the way ...then set my voyage dates in the future to match the harvest times of the crops . Everything from oranges apples strawberry's asparagus ...and the like could be left ...then when I retire from traveling sell my food map to other loopers .
That is interesting about what you said about living a hedonistic lifestyle. You are living for self during this adventure, but you helped that lady today and I am sure you help people when you are home. It is about balance. God does want us to help others along our daily path. Glad you found and returned the Bible, I would be heartbroken to lose mine! Please be careful walking around abandoned homeless camps, there could be used needles under the leaves and you or Wavey could get poked.
Yep, I can see how a shanty-boat's better than a second home for the water-inclined like your good self. For my wife and I, a tiny house in the bay we love is better than a second home in town.
I’m glad I stumbled onto your channel. I love your boat. I have a suggestion for you about fresh water. I’m pretty sure someone else may have already suggested what I’m about to. Since you have gutters on both sides of your boat, why not put a downspout and to say a couple of 5 gallon buckets or even a 5 gallon or 10 gallon tank so every time it rains you’ll have freshwater. This is only a suggestion. I really do admire what you’re doing! I think it’s awesome!
I have watched several videos of people making houseboats out of pontoon boats, but no one put gutters or captures rainwater. I am fairly sure that it wouldn’t save you a lot of money in the beginning, but I think it would over the long run.
Howdy. Welcome. Thanks for finding us. Not always easy. I do have plans for harvesting rain water as you describe. I spend most of my time on the great lakes, so fresh water isn't a big issue. If we ever go to the Bahamas...that would be a good way to have fresh water;)
Ar Mayo in Jacksonville for my post op follow up. No fun here today, but test results are good. I thought about you and Wavy when I crossed the big bridge. One more appointment and then headed back to Blackshear. Yall doing good I hope. What do you use for the Sand Nats?
There is a island beside the e Pensacola Navy base marine there that is between land like a inlet, anyway there is always 3-5 house boaters there where people be park there, it stop the wind from hitting your boat. Whenever I go down every March or June or July and October, they be there. I haven’t been there since 2022 though because the bases have raise their fees on base rooms to stay, it use to be $60-80 a night and now it’s like $200 or more a night there. It’s cheaper to stay at a motel now.
Brother you are down close to Sanibel island, that’s a place I want to go to bad. I was wrong, you are at Bayou Chico Peninsula, when first googled it, it came up as Chico island near Sanibel.
Nice seeing the dolphins, when I take my jet skis or 05 Macgregor 26M with a 50hp 4 stroke down, I see them in that area a lot. When I bought my new Yamaha outboard off the internet, I had a new timing belt put on it with new plugs and wires and of coarse all the fluids change from a Yamaha dealership. So did u have any of those things done to your use Yamaha outboard before the trip?

As a trailer sailor I enjoy your channel. I have cruised the keys several times over the years in the winter. I have been in some nasty cold front passages swinging at anchor hoping it doesn’t drag.
I remember going down to Florida in the late 1970s. Was still a lot of old school economical retreats then in the Florida keys. I was shocked how expensive and overbuilt the entire Florida keys were when I returned 2017- 2021.
The sailboat was probably stripped and then illegally dumped. A big problem down there with abandoned boats in Florida. Or some one just got old and had to give up on in the project and parted it out.
The sailboat was probably thrown there from a Hurricane. A good friend lives there and he was sending me pics of the destruction about 5 years. Also when I was in Ft Myers each January ‘23 it was shocking how boats were laying in the mangroves as if they were toy boats
Those "Modern Day Shipwrecks" as we've come to call them are endless intrigue here in Florida us. Some of them are nice boats! Thanks for being a member of the channel
Watching you channel for a bit. Just curious how hard it is to get gas for your motor as you travel. Is a marina the last choice because of price? What kind of gas efficiency do you get on your outboard?
Had isn't too hard really. Stopping at marinas is most convenient, but more expensive. Me and the beagle always need exercise, so we hoof it to has stations. We burn about a gallon an hour

Have been enjoying the videos and hubby and I can’t wait to start our Loop in a few years
Thanks for the entertainment and inspiration!
Thanks for being here ;) that was a nice little trawler. Good size. Not too big.
Wavey looking at the groceries from the doorway😆poor sweet baby, never gets nothing 😢😂. Nice dolphin shots. Where are my favorite sea cows?
One of those less common beagle noises (without screaming on 11) ;) I've seen some sea cows, south of Titusville, I think I got some footage. A fella who lived around there said he use to love them, now they're as common as crows ;) I guess it's time to start eating them again? And did you see those dolphins throwing that fish around?!
@@backwatersandbackroads dolphins are brutal 🤣
How far behind from now are your video's? I love the life style you are living!
We just crossed into South Carolina
I'm sorry you lost your wife. Having a good dog for company really helps when doing stuff solo.
I do appreciate you sparing me the daily bath
You're welcome sir! ;)
It feels like a real treat to have a new video 40 minutes long on a Wednesday. I love it❤
Deep thoughts, is I agree that Shanty boat is better than a second land-based home . LOL
I don't know where you and Wavy are right now, but wherever you are, hope all is going well❤
Hi Karen! ;) I always love your comments. We are in SC now

Not sure why gasoline is always so expensive in Florida, but right now it's 3:29 a gallon in my little town in Massachusetts
taxes
@@karaDee2363
@@karaDee2363 Wow! 3.59.9 here in Northeast Putnam County Fl.(Palatka)
That made me smile! What if the world looked at the dolphins as teachers? We have a lot to learn from those extraordinary beings. God bless you, Brenton and Wavey! Me and the kitties send hugs!
Thank you sir! I appreciate all feedback.
You're living my dream brother. I want to tour with my dachshund/pit mix (also a needy barker who loves to walk), who is only 7, so when she starts slowing down this is how we will travel in the future. I grew up on the water sailing and operating small vessels, surfing, kayaking, etc.
Fantastic! ;)
The boats ending up on land and/or swamped is usually from tropical storms and possibly storm surge.
Good video. Two items of info - where you passed the Lighthouse and Coast Guard vessels was right at Pensacola Naval Air Station, home of the Blue Angels! Secondly, the boat hull you found on Chico Island was probably washed/blown there by a hurricane - maybe Ivan. Safe travels.
I felt a little safer in that high wind knowing they were right there ;)
Thanks!
Love the videos.
Wow. Thank you! That helps a lot. 3 days of fuel is what that equals, with some treats for the brat ;)
So excited when I get a notification! This was an epic video. Thankyou for sharing your adventures ❤

Love that workhorse outboard of yours Brenton. Always problems with my iOS, but that outboard of yours is unstoppable. Love how you and wavey get thrown into such important usual, unusual situations
Your videos came up on my recommended and I love it! I watch a lot of sail boats but motor boats are my 1st choice and your little shanty is great! I have a lot of catching up to do. I love Wavy but he is a nose dog... follows his nose and wants to hunt. I'm hoping you come all the way south in my Florida territory on the ICW.

Hey you 2! I got to see you when you were in Bayou Chico on the little island by our marina, Pelican’s Perch. That’s when I discovered your channel. The ‘opening’ out to the Gulf (not ocean although it looks like the ocean out there) is called Pensacola Pass. So glad you got to stop in our great neck of the woods on your travels! We just brought a boat home from Pickwick Lake in late Sept & so recognized all the locks & sights you filmed! Enjoy watching, thanks for doing all this. Safe & fun travels the rest of your way!

Cheers
Yeap. You got it. For long term storage and small motors like the dighny
Thanks buddy good wanderings abd ponderings

Enjoyed the vid Brent. My little beagle is very vocal like Wavy.
Nice video. It was a great thing you did by calling the lady about her stolen car. I hope the person or persons who did that, did not do too much damage to it.
It looked fixable. I bet they knew about that spot and ransacked many cars behind that house. :(

Hi, I just found your channel.very cool. I've had it in my mind to do a solo trip on the waterways with a little house boat too or a sailboat.
I've seen videos from there. If I was an Aussie, I'd live in Tasmania;)
That's a cool idea. The Hubbard's did something like that and wrote about it in "shanty boat" the book
After viewing you adventure in Florida so far, I'd prefer going back to the river. More freedoms on the river it seems.
I'd say so. Florida is crowded.
Pensacola naval museum is really nice btw
Great episode, Brenton!
Yep, I can see how a shanty-boat's better than a second home for the water-inclined like your good self. For my wife and I, a tiny house in the bay we love is better than a second home in town.
Just down from the Oar House is Sanders Beach which had Grotto Hall where in 1971, I think, 🤷🏼 I saw Ted Nudgent and the Amboy Dukes‼️ 😂
You witnessed a legend at the beginning;)
I’m glad I stumbled onto your channel. I love your boat. I have a suggestion for you about fresh water. I’m pretty sure someone else may have already suggested what I’m about to. Since you have gutters on both sides of your boat, why not put a downspout and to say a couple of 5 gallon buckets or even a 5 gallon or 10 gallon tank so every time it rains you’ll have freshwater. This is only a suggestion. I really do admire what you’re doing! I think it’s awesome!
I have watched every episode since you started. Since I am currently unemployed, it only took me about two days. I am living vicariously through you!
Thanks for thinking of us. We had a maintance day today. Work horse purring again. We just anchor in the wind if possible. Definitely helps with bugs

All those things were done before we left, about 400 hours when we left. Who knows now! ;)

Exactly! :) even bikini channels with young beautiful GFs/Wives....don't want to see it. Don't need to see it. :)
As a trailer sailor I enjoy your channel. I have cruised the keys several times over the years in the winter. I have been in some nasty cold front passages swinging at anchor hoping it doesn’t drag.
Things are not as affluent as the rest of Florida. I thought it would have been more built up with outrageous expensive residential areas.
