I am a Naga from Angami tribe and let me explain to you how we came to eating dog meat. Our ancestors were head hunters and before they go to battle they would eat dog meat because they were considered to be the bravest among any animal. It is considered that eating dog meat gave them the bravery of a dog to be a true Naga warrior. Edit: I would like to add that: Back then Naga warriors used to eat dog meat before going to battle because they considered it imbued them with bravery. Now due to Modernization we don't have any more warriors, head hunters so now people who eat either enjoy the taste, they are readily availabie or there is a demand for it. I will like to point out majority of Nagas don't eat dog meat infact many have pets of some kind (I myself have eaten only once in my life out of curiosity). It was never a taboo and considered just another form of meat. Dog meat is consumed before and after traditional wrestling matches by the wrestlers for the same reason. Also it is considered by many tribes that after performing heavy manual work eating dog meat replenishes their energy. Dogs were sacrificed and eaten to drive off evil spirits. Back in the day there was no religion. People believed in superstition and evil spirits. So even though these days almost every Naga has converted to Christianity or other religion they still don't want to displeasure the evil spirits so they will follow old tradition and practice it. Hornbill Festival which represents all tribes of Nagaland is a recent annual festival that came into action only a decade ago (Organised by State Tourism to give a closer understanding of the people and culture of Nagaland) . Every tribes in Nagaland has their own festival. E.g. I am Angami and we have our festival "Sekrenyi" (sanctification of body, mind and soul) and dog meat is eaten as a symbol of prosperity. Even now if you go to the villages you will see hunters and their kill vary anywhere from birds, squirrels, wild cats, boars, deers to anything. @Ramesh shinde Yes monkeys were eaten. Animals that are found in the region. Ask any visitor and you will immediately notice the scarcity of common birds you find in other cities (swallow, pigeon etc) scarce in Nagaland. For the dog lovers, I know it will hurt seeing dog meat but it's a tradition and it is only consumed
by very very less people from few tribes.Atleast we can respect their culture and not make sensitive judgements
on a tradition they are following for centuries.
Jai Hind 🇮🇳🇮🇳
It shouldn't be your concern cause these people aren't Indians ..don't put your nose in places where you don't belong paj3et streetsh1tter
I couldn't watch this video cause it really hurts , i wish these tribes would stop consuming dog meat, but again its their culture after all
Na, I am a Naga and I don't like it either and it's not a tradition.. I wish our state stop eating this and people insulting us by calling us "dog eaters".
Don't support this please, most of us are also trying to stop this but what to do,some people still does this stuff.
Alot of dogs and cats goes missing especially during December and it breaks my heart every year.
as an assamese,i tried it for first time ...
@@SirenMeow Hahh? Perhaps not a tradition because we don't have any particular event related to eating dogs. However, we've been consuming dog meat since the inception. Come on, don't pretend.

Since you came to Shillong, I messaged you twice and this is the third. The native place of the Garo Tribe is in Meghalaya. Meghalaya is divided into Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills...Garos are a minority in Nagaland, but the blood and hospitality are same (like all tribals)...You must visit Garo Hills. Good to see you hang around with our people.
Thanks Henry for saying, I thought all tribes there were originally from Nagaland!
Take care man !
Garos of Nagaland did not come from Meghalaya or Assam, If you read the history of the origin of Garos from Nagaland you will see .
Him : I want to try some exotic food in this amazing place. I have travelled far from home to reach here kind sir. What exotic food do you have ??
Receptionist : DOG MEAT!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow as an Indian this is my first time seeing this as well through your vlogs. This again shows me that India is so colourful, vibrant and diverse. The festival looks really fun, makes me want to visit it too and everyone is speaking English so well. Great job showcasing all this, enjoying the vlogs man!
Man your really travelled almost complete north east india.
Nice to see you brother ☺️ you are so generous
No no no dog omg !!!! How do these people have the guts to kill such beautiful creatures and then make fun of it !! Even if they are street dogs , you have no right over them !! Nobody has asked u to feed them . Dont feed them don't look after them but atleast dont be so cruel to kill them . Can't believe Indian government is still silent over this matter . I would never like to visit such a place like this !!! Second China ewe 😬😬💔
That's their tradition and you don't have the right to say these words. If you can't be a sport and respect others tradition, keep your openion to yourself.
Right now I am watching this from L.A. and it's really amazing to see Nagaland in international frame, sharing diverse culture and unique tradition. Just amazing!!!

wow.... let me tell the audience why frenchy is the GOAT and his channnel should stand among the very best (atleast in india)..
Before this Nagaland series.. ALL i knew about Nagaland was
1. its capital is Kohima.
2. constitution has granted it a special status in terms of tribal autonomous status.. something along those lines.
3. You need ILP to enter it.. bss thats it..
PS.. Micahel has the best laugh.
English is the official language of nagaland.
India !
