    Another common way to approach elderlies which is very polite is by calling them “shrif and “shrifa” probably more commonly used than 3mi and khalti 😊😊

      Shrif and shrifa is too close to scharf and scharfa for my comfort.

      @@MorAcro that is very true indeed 😂😂
      As Terry said, with a slight mistake in pronunciation and you find yourself saying a different word lol
      But calling a “shrifa” Sharfa, is more likely to drive a response “sharfa hia mok” 😂😂😂
      Nice one 👌

      @@MorAcro shrif or shrifa means noble .. So Morocco' s name in the history is the Sherifian Empire .. wich means the Land of Shorfaas or Shorafaas .. in some historical books ,you will find the name of the King as Sharif Al alaoui .. or shorfaas Alaouine as plural ...
      Sharf or sharfa is berber Amazigh word wich means old man or old woman ...

    The beauty of our dialect and i guess it's the reason why people find it difficult to get there way around darija is the fact that a word can be used for different connotations
    As you mentioned "safi"
    Can mean "enough" or "okay" or "that's all" or as a way of comforting someone to tell them that everything is gonna be okay and there is no need to be sad anymore 😅
    Everything depends on the tone in which you've used the word : happy, sad, angry or comforting 😂

    Cath has had a time trying to learn the Tamazight/TashelHit spoken more in the South where we are mostly. It is a pleasant surprise for those when she speaks with them, especially the older generation. We have discovered that the dialect can vary village to village but the basics are much understood. So interesting but not easy to remember so she has narrowed it down as also learning sign language and gets in a tiswas! Many of our friends have learnt English so quickly over the years. Ak i3awn rbbi.

    • @MiddleAgedRunaway

      @@MiddleAgedRunaway Hi, there are different sign Languages globally, even BSL (British) and American differ but she said there is a way using key words (signs) that help in communication.

    • @MariaNI-yf1bz
      @MariaNI-yf1bz Рік тому +1

      Yes Tashal7it is indeed mostly in the South. However Tamazight does not include solely Tashal7it. There are within this linguidtic family(non semitic) group other dialects and not exclisive to Morocco. So based on this its not "more spoken" in the south of Morocco. In the North or the Rif area (where my family is from) Tarifit, another Tamazoght dialect is spoken widely too. Further I have heard and seen some tourists assume or think or have the impression, that the Amazigh somehow are only or mostly concentrated in the South, likely based on the assumption that Amazigh or "Berber" equates "nomad" and/or living in the desert. This is indeed not correct. In fact the Amazigh are mostly (in origin) farmers, or stuck to one place. Interesting fact is that genetically Moroccans, same as the rest of North Africa(except part of Egypt) is or are predominantly of local North African=Amazigh, origin. Those who identity (based on language) as "Arab" are genetically no different than the Tamazight speakers. This is not an opinion but based on data/studies like Triki-Fendri et al. If people want to see or understand this more, check out the Amazigh, people of North Africa genetic group on Facebook.

    14:44 bsa7a oe ra7a means literally: ’with strength and calmness’. You can almost say it to everything (which us normal and you enjoy it: took a bath, eating or eaten, trained, relaxing. And so fort on…). In europe or america they do not really know this, closest is ‘enjoy’ or ‘have fun’…..

    • @arabidimaandwhatever
      @arabidimaandwhatever Рік тому

      Extra info: ra7a comes from the word ra7ma. And we believe that ra7ma comes from Allah. Bsa7a is sa7a and only Allah can give strength. So when someone says that, you say back: Allahi htik sa7a (may Allah give you power/strength)
