This is so refreshing! You see so many UA-camrs with all these plants and they don’t really talk about the maintenance and, that it’s OK to get rid of a plant if it’s not serving you or it’s not growing well for you! Thank you for doing this video.
Harli you never cease to amaze me. That's why I keep coming back and watching your videos. I would never be so cavalier about Mealey Bugs. Or repot a plant on carpet!!! 🤣😂
I love your couch! I love decluttering my plants a little every now and then. It gives a refresh to the ones I really love. Having time to really take good care of the ones you have. I love this idea! 😊
Honestly Harli I really appreciate videos like this so much. They're so realistic and relatable and I feel like we don't talk about/show this stuff enough in the plant community. I've been feeling so down recently while doing plant chores cause of all the problems I'm unearthing (😉) when I repot, so it's helpful to get a friendly reminder and example that it's just a part of the hobby. And that it can feel so good and freeing after! Anyway just thanks! ❤️
I love giving plants I no longer love away to friends who are excited to receive them! It makes me feel better knowing that they’ll be loved and appreciated
This is not about plants, but about the way or style you wear your shirt 🤪🤣 I've been doing that way since I was in high school (1994) lol and it still looks cool now looking at you 🤘😊
I've decluttered probably a dozen plants and a bunch of needless cuttings recently and it feels amazing!! Focusing on care over acquiring really is the move
This video is so great, honestly so far nr.1 of 2024 that I've seen so far (not only yours, but other plantubers as well). Hope it's gonna catch on and inspire other as well!
Keeping plants is supposed to be a pleasure not a chore, I got rid of over 40 of my plants a few weeks ago bringing the number I own down to around 80. I’ve got plants in my collection that are going to get pretty big and those plants give me the most enjoyment therefore it was time to make that decision. I’m happy with my decision and am also enjoying caring for my remaining plants a lot more
I fully support donating plants that no longer bring you joy! I do it all the time and it helps me stay in love with my collection and not feel annoyed by it!
Thank you so much for inspiring me to get rid of all the little pots and jars of cuttings I've been rooting, or attempting to root! It's really hard for me to "toss" any little sprig I think I can rehab!! But why?? I have the mother plants!! Good lesson learned!! Thank you Harli!!
I’m ready to downsize my collection too. It’s taken so much of my time to keep up with watering etc. I’ve put some outside that are struggling so they can have one last hurrah before the snow will come this winter. If they decide to take a turn and get big and healthy while outside I’ll rehome them in the fall. 😊
Thank you for normalizing plant decluttering! I’ve been going through it too. I love propagating my monstera plants and watching the roots grow! But then I end up with 4 giant monstera plants. So rehoming them has been so cleansing for me. My 2 anthuriums showed signs of spider mites on one and thrips on the other! In the trash they went. (I don’t have the motivation to deal!) Cuttings that I’ve propagating were trashed because I don’t have any plans to pot them up. I feel lighter already! More to go!
I loved this video, so inspirational to get to see your whole destash process! Hoping for a video on your substrate reuse process, especially when the plant in the substrate had mealybugs!
OMGGGGGG HARLI PLEASEEEE tell me where you got your outdoor patio set?! I’ve been on the hunt and love yours! Also good job on finally chopping the polynuera I don’t think I would be able to part with it either she’s so lush and gorgeous!!! Keep the plant content coming I need to repot a lot of stuff lol
Thank you for this video. I was feeling overwhelmed with my 200+ plants in my covered patio (I Iive in Florida) I mainly have Hoyas and a few Aroids. Well we decided to paint the patio (against my wishes) and naturally we had to move them outside (thank God I put my favorites inside the house) well living in sunny Florida most of them burned to a crisp. I was able to salvage some of them but I felt horrible. I had wanted to declutter but couldn’t get myself to do it so subconsciously I sent them out to fry. I felt so guilty but watching your video I feel much better if that makes any sense 😢
Plants should make our heart feel light! It’s ok to let them go if they don’t. I’m also beginning to think mealybugs play an important role. They appear to let us know the plant is struggling. Sometimes we can help, sometimes we can’t. I ❤your rehabbing or parting ways with videos. 🙏🏼
I love your videos and how real you are❣️I will say, all the pothos cuttings would be ADORED by so many in my local Buy Nothing group. It is work to post and gift, but it makes me feel happy to share plants. 🪴 I hope you kick those mealies to the curb.
I've been on a plant decluttering kick since April and it's been so nice! I traded one for a cute pot because why not lol. Otherwise they've all ended up going up on my buy nothing group. :)
Decluttering is very healthy. I am down from 32 plants to 4 plants. I can breathe again. (I realize my big selection of 32 plants was nothing compared to your collection 😂😂😬) Thanks Harli…great video!
Harli I understand getting rid of ones you don’t love. I just purged a few and realized I don’t care for some philodendron😢. I’m eyeing a few more, but I’ll see how I feel in a little bit.
I was going to say spray your leaves with a combination of dish soap, white vinegar, and water and then you dumped your Hoya cuts into white vinegar and water. I find this treatment works perfectly on mealybugs and any time I see any of my plants I take them to the sink and spray the entire plant and the soil with the combination. Leave it for half an hour and then rinse off. Nearly bugs are gone don’t come back. I got a few nearly bugs in my apartment when I brought home a rescue plant from Bunnings, a big box plant store here in Australia. FYI, I use that same combination of dish soap, white vinegar and water to clean around my house.
I just found your channel and I love it! ❤️❤️❤️ I’ve been watching your videos on box propagation. I was wondering if there are there any plants that can’t be propagated in the boxes? Like String of _______ plants or baby rubber plants?
Use peppermint castile soap for pest and also cleaning leaves - life changing for a black thumb person like me who killed 80% of the plants. I don't use neem oil anymore. Also im glad u are decluttering esp dead or dying coz of pests.
Not going to lie, it started off painful for me. Only because I just started this yesterday. WOW, did this help. It is a great video and is going to make all of this so much easier for me. Btw, really love the look of the Hoya Diptera, perfect ! ❤
Please let us know if the water dip finally killed all the Mealy’s. I have been fighting with them also for a while. I’m ready to chop and do what you did.
I used to have roughly 50 plants in my tiny apartment. I’ve decluttered to maybe 12 because I was so overwhelmed. Every birthday and Christmas people get me more plants and I’m like “PLEASE STOP!” 🤣 I posted for a couple years about my plants online, and now people think I eternally need plants for every occasion. It gets so overwhelming!
I just threw out a lot of plants that I’ve been struggling with for a couple of years. I did buy a couple of wish list plants to replace them, but sometimes, if they’re making you stressed, it’s not worth it. It’s only a plant at the end of the day 💜
I just recently allowed myself to do this. It started out rough, I wanted to keep everything but by the end I was ruthless! Hahaha That ugly, leggy cactus that stabbed me every time I went near it? In the trash! It was so freeing. Why did I make myself keep that thing so long? 🤣🤣🤣
Hahaha, next we will be watching Harli make a mealybug habitat, and we will all be copying her. I have always found that if my plants hear the threat to them, it sometimes makes them straighten up haha
I have a standleyana albo and it’s one of my faves, it’s huge and growing so well… but I find them super hard to prop… I’ve tried water and sphagnum moss… not much luck… only one out of 10 will root for me.
I have great success in propagating Standleyana in moss…but I too ask myself why I keep propagating…just keep giving myself more stuff to do. However I give away all my propagations to friends.
The polyneura - could it be that they are root mealy's and then feed on the leaves? I don't know if they do that, but it's so strange that they aren't eradicated.
Rubbing alcohol has always worked for me with mealy bugs. If I ever find the root ones I’ll try predator insects that get down in the soil and eat them. Good luck!
I had no idea you could use dish soap on your houseplants!! Obviously you can’t use it for watering them but that’s crazy! Learn something new everyday!!
It’s taken sooo long to get my polynuera going that I’d be the same, don’t give up! Lol On the other hand, I see people get upset and throwing plants in the garbage, I personally don’t, if it’s not doing well I don’t want to give them away, and if they were common cheapies, it doesn’t matter I can always get another if I want, so into the compost they go, to help fertilize my outdoor garden plants! They’re ours, we can do what we want. Everyone’s welcome to have an opinion, I just don’t care what anyone else thinks lol
Mealy bugs = spray rubbing alcohol all over the plant. I had an infestation and sprayed my big plant twice. All gone. Vinegar never did anything for me. Do a 75% alcohol to 25% water mix for an infestation that bad.
Where could we donate the plants to?? I sometimes post them on marketplace for free, but sometimes I don’t feel like waiting for someone to respond.. or having people respond that never follow through.. ugh..
That’s why i always start with people I know! Then I’ll set them out in front of my house on a table for my neighbors if anything doesn’t get claimed & then I’ll move to Facebook marketplace or Etsy to sell them if there’s any left
Wait... You put the soil from your infested plants back into your reuse soil bin?? There could be eggs or bugs still in there. I always trash soil from infested plants.
YES! They are magical and the best/easiest way to deal with pests. I had thrips and spider mites go through the plant room. I got beneficial, predatory mites and I am so happy with the results, no mess, no toxic chemicals.
I just threw out my Hoya krimson princess because it was infested with mealies. I hadn’t looked at it in quite some while. In the garbage. Felt freeing.
I think soil that has had an infestation of bugs should be disposed of in the trash. I wouldn't feel good about keeping it in my second hand soil bin. Those mealies need a final eviction notice!
lol sis you didn’t have to do that to that Hoya lol could’ve just took it out of soil and throw that away and soak plant in alcohol and water mix they would’ve all died once then just repot
Please continue doing weirder and weirder endings until you eventually just have to start over at normal. Highly entertaining, as is all of your body of content creation work. Rad, rad, rad.
Plant Hoarder!

Decluttering is so therapeutic even when it’s our plant babies. When ya know, ya know when it’s time. Great job mama
Harli you never cease to amaze me. That's why I keep coming back and watching your videos. I would never be so cavalier about Mealey Bugs. Or repot a plant on carpet!!! 🤣😂

Needed this today to get some plant watering done while I watch! 🥰

decluttering is super satisfying, it was almost cathartic watching you dump those plants! lol Thanks for the inspiration
I love giving plants I no longer love away to friends who are excited to receive them! It makes me feel better knowing that they’ll be loved and appreciated
Ahhh 😱 the poly id thrown that so quick haha literally as far and hard as possible

The ending tho. Chaotic. Heck yeah!!!!! Radical
This is the second time I’ve watched this video. Please, can you make more?

Always unimaginable to me, how you're doing repotting on the carpet)))), yet I enjoy this kind of video a lot 😂🍎
The carpet isn’t laid so I can roll it up and shake it off outside 😝
It's so nice, you're answering, so weird) thanks @@HarliG
I loved this video, so inspirational to get to see your whole destash process! Hoping for a video on your substrate reuse process, especially when the plant in the substrate had mealybugs!
Playing this on repeat now to keep me motivated 🤣 We need more videos like this. I love to see you “maturing “ in your hobby. Me too sis…me too!
We love your plants ways but the kids are very cute and your chickens are fun your just interesting lol thanks for the fun videos

Loved the ending song too😂
I absolutely love how messy your repottings are. They’re like mine😁
Decluttering is very healthy. I am down from 32 plants to 4 plants. I can breathe again.
(I realize my big selection of 32 plants was nothing compared to your collection 😂😂😬)
Thanks Harli…great video!
I couldn’t stop laughing when you said that the mealies “ are kinda cute”
I need to do this!!! Thanks Harli
Ooooo this is gonna be good! I have the same to do list. 😅😭 I’ve been procrastinating!! This gave me inspiration to get it done !💕
I love seeing Bismark in videos...he's such a momma's boy

'I feel light as a feather' - I died 😂
6:15 😂 omg me rn but with the H. Ver. Compacta, except i made a alcohol/ water bath

No, all the pottting after mealies she's trashed @@marymiller5824
Oh man I'd be giving up on that polyneura!!
How did the polyneura make out?
Hahaha, next we will be watching Harli make a mealybug habitat, and we will all be copying her. I have always found that if my plants hear the threat to them, it sometimes makes them straighten up haha

I’m sure you have, but did you try systemic granules for the mealies?
I have great success in propagating Standleyana in moss…but I too ask myself why I keep propagating…just keep giving myself more stuff to do. However I give away all my propagations to friends.
Best outro ever 🤣♥️🌿
Where did you get the shelf your plants are on upstairs?
Good for you 👍 If it isn’t giving you joy, bye bye 😀🇨🇦
Thank you for not saying "they don't bring me joy" (insert eye roll) lol Spring cleaning is a great time to lose some plants!
The way you’re pushing them down in the water with the scissors has me like 😬😂
My polynuera is down to its last 2 leaves so I put it outside. So not sure he’ll make it. Like you I’ve done everything to kill the Millie’s
Where did you find your dioscorea discolor plant? I’ve been looking for one for the longest time without success.
Etsy but mine had mealy bugs and scale when I got it 🫣
what do you do with the second hand substrate??
Let it sit for a really long time to become bone dry 😁
i wasnt ready for this oh my god

Mealy bug soup, YUM!
I think mealies are kind of cute too hahahahahaha but still, no mercy
Should have gotten some beneficial insects for the mealies.
I hate mealies so much. Fighting with them on my Hoya constantly 😡
There’s no way I wouldn’t have just thrown that away 5:52
I think soil that has had an infestation of bugs should be disposed of in the trash. I wouldn't feel good about keeping it in my second hand soil bin. Those mealies need a final eviction notice!
I agree with you. This could possibly be the reason so many of her plants have been overrun by mealies.
The bin stays on the far side of my basement & doesn’t come in contact with any plants. I’ll prep it in a year or so for reuse
Your ficus altissima needs more light, like a lot of light.
Girl if I see one bug it’s gone. I cannot stand even thinking of them being in my house.
Congrats on making the difficult decisions to downsize Harli!
Well, you just saved the whole plant
lol sis you didn’t have to do that to that Hoya lol could’ve just took it out of soil and throw that away and soak plant in alcohol and water mix they would’ve all died once then just repot
diluted Iso alcohol, soak, rinse.. they'll be gone forever
rubbing alcohol kills mealies immediately
Those cuttings would have made good giveaways to viewers for the shipping
