I've been looking for a video that explains how to paint a realistic sunflower, and your is the best out of the ten I've watched! i never thought of using the contact paper for a reverse stencil of the flower. I use it all the time to paint words on signs, so I already have a roll. Have a good day and thank you again!
I stick a length of clear cover onto the canvas after I have completed the drawing phase. I then use a craft knife to carefully cut around the sketch, peeling back the unwanted areas when I am done. This then leave only the flower covered so that I can quickly paint the background without carefully working between the petals, etc.

When you painted the petals, did you wait for the dark colors to dry before painting the lighter yellows? Or the browns?
