I've often heard people question why Marty's parents don't recognise him at the end of the movie or wonder why he looks so much like Calvin but I challenge anyone to remember the facial features of someone you knew for only one week 30 years ago.

It's possible that they noticed Marty may have looked like Calvin Klein from a long time ago... but Marty is still their own son, who they've known since he was born, so there really isn't much to be suspicious about.
If they learned about Doc having a working time machine, then they'd have a major mindblown moment, but it's probably just a funny coincidence to them

I had classmates who I considered best friends at the time and who I saw and hung out with pretty much everyday for YEARS... Yet when I close my eyes I struggle to picture their faces. It's just the way human memory works.

"Back To The Future" is absolutely flawless. The script is perfect. And when I say perfect I mean PERFECT. If you study screenwriting or read some notable books on the subject you'll quickly notice that "Back To The Future"s structure is masterful. The film is one of those rare cases where everything works and fits beautifully. Zemeckis, Silvestri, Christopher Lloyd, Michael J. Fox and Thomas Wilson. The killer team. Definitely one of the greatest films of the 80s and of all time.
Great work once again Oliver. I was very curious to hear your opinion on this film. When you uploaded your preview I was very excited. I was already very familiar with the history of the film but it was a delight to watch anyway. Definitely one of your reviews I'll go back to again and again.

The real writer is from Logan Utah.
In Logan Utah, A few miles apart:
LMC, Bluebird Restaurant, The Clock Tower Plaza and Twin Pines Condos
In the movie: DMC, Bluebird Motel, The Clock Tower and Twin Pines Mall
LMC and DMC were both owned by John Delorean.
There are more hidden things in these films that only the real writer knows. Zoom in on the head of small statue inside Marty's house when Biff is there. Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy is there. As the writer was working on A screenplay that was about Groot. Decades later the same writer finished A different screenplay and that became GOTG.
Bob Gale does not know about Groot!

"Back to the Future," "Ghostbusters" and "Gremlins" form a loose trilogy that represents the very best of the decade's essence in film. There might be a few better films that came out in the '80s but none that are all so uniquely of their time while also transcending it. - This is one of your very best reviews, Oliver. Like many others here I absolutely love this film. And while I love the sequels as well this one is clearly the best.

Oliver Harper I'm excited to say that I'm gonna reveal my biggest 10+ year old secret ever since this is BTTF's 30th Anniversary. Here we go: I watched BTTF for the first time by ACCIDENT! Don't believe me....let's travel back in time to 2003. As I was almost 7 years old at the time, originally, my aunt was suppose to give me a VHS copy of Casper (1995). Before I left my aunt's house I opened the Casper VHS box, in order that the movie was inside. But I realized that inside the box was an old 1985 VHS copy of Back to the Future. I was curious to ask my aunt, "Where's Casper?" My aunt told me that the tape might've been lost or something and prefers taking BTTF instead. As soon as I got home, I began to pop in the tape, sit on the floor of my living room and witnessing almost 2 hours of pure creativity and magic that is Marty and Doc. The next day in Kindergarten, all I can think about is drawing a DeLorean and recreating the climatic Clocktower sequence. Some of my colleagues really don't know what the heck I was doing, nor had any idea what I was talking about. That same year, I rode Back to the Future: The Ride for the first time at Universal Studios Florida. Both my father and I could agree that it was the best ride of the whole resort. We even rode it during the final months of operation in 2006, not just as fans, but as father and son (it was also the best moment I had with my father, in a long time). Overall, I'm proud that I'm a BTTF fan by accident, because any little slip up throughout your lifetime could have a major impact in the future. Some in a very good way. Like Doc used say:
"Your Future is whatever you make it, to make it a good one!"
    #BTTFFanForLife
    #BTTF30

Great video, Oliver. I was kinda hoping you'd bring up Secret Cinema's Back to the Future event where they recreated the entire Hill Valley set which you could walk around and interact in. I bought my girlfriend and I tickets to go for her Birthday and it's without a doubt the most fun I've had in one evening. We dressed up in 50s gear, were able to free roam around the square, hung out at the cafe (they did excellent chips), went into the shops, they had actors recreating sequences in the actual locations, watched the movie projected onto the clock tower and danced in the school hall with the jazz band afterwards. It was a brilliant experience and one I feel honored to have taken part it. Just thought I'd share that. Back to the Future is a classic and, as always, you did good justice to it in this video. Keep up the awesome work, mate!

It's a rare example of a perfect film. Nothing is mentioned that isn't tied up later; there's no unnecessary exposition, there's no fat, it's acted, framed and shot exactly. The score is tremendous. It is perfect.

I went on a binge watching your videos this year and when I saw your advertisement for the retrospective of back to the future, I was in shock and said "wow, he didn't do back to the future". Great retrospective as always. I didn't see back to the future until I was about 20(I'm about to turn 30) and I'm so sad that I didn't see it earlier(my dad said he didn't like the film, so it wasn't in our collection) but I'm so glad I have it in my collection now and still return to it every year 😃

Hi Oliver, just wanted to say...... I've been a subscriber to your channel for about a year now and I really enjoy your videos. Your presentation and editing make them very easy to watch and what you end up putting out there is really professional looking (and sounding actually). You give a great insight into each one, from the dates and budget for the production right through to the score, character and actor profiles and always a great plot synopsis but without any spoilers. IMO, you should be on TV with this - I honestly think that not only are you good enough, but it would also be something new for TV. There are plenty of review shows out there for current and soon to be released films, but I've never seen anyone do retrospective reviews - encouraging people to re-visit older classics or even discover them for the first time. (BTW, I know you also do your commentaries, new trailer reviews, new film reviews, bits of movie news - as well your gaming stuff) - which are all great, but it's the retrospectives that really stand out for me. Anyway, keep up the good work and I look forward to your next upload. Cheers from just down the road from you in Peterborough, Cambs

Awesome retrospective for my all time favorite movie. I think I've watched this movie 100 times when I was younger. Everything about this movie from the story, memorable and quotable dialogue, actors, and music all came together to make one of the most perfect timeless movies ever made. People who love this movie should go buy the dvd/bluray and watch the behind the scenes, commentary, and other fun facts behind the movie. For instance, Einstein the dog was originally supposed to be a monkey and Biff Tannen was named after a Universal Pictures executive.

There is an amazing about of brilliant work gone into this retrospective,a real labour of love putting this together,by the look of it all.
I always loved the high school dance -Marty inadvertently invents rock n' roll and Metal with Johnny B Good's swinging, fired up blues finally igniting and soundtracking the lives of new 50's teenagehood, only to leave them dumbfounded with hotwired fretboard annihilation, reckless onstage abandonment, and near equipment destruction, via Van Halen and The Who. The stunned look on the guy in the band's face as he watches Marty play the guitar behind his head is priceless. It will always made me laugh!
Everything you said about the movie is right on the money-another "Back of the Net!" retrospective from you. Awesomely edited montage for the final coupla minutes, too. Excellent.

I have to say Back to the Future truly has that magical spark. I've shown my niece and nephew all the "classics" from my time. Most, like Star Wars and Raiders, my nephew enjoyed but my niece wanted no part of, others, like E.T. or Goonies that I swore would bowl them over actually did the opposite and they pretty much hated (which was blasphemy to my ears!) but Back to the Future not only hooked to both of them, it has become one of the most rewatched films in their library- and not just the original. They watch the 3rd one nearly as often and though they aren't as jazzed about part 2, they certainly have sat through it several times. And I'm talking of all the films including Jurassic Park, Gremlins, and even more modern things like Harry Potter!! That's impressive, when a film is able to reach kids today as strongly as it reached us in our day...

Back To The Future is probably my favourite film ever made and that is no exaggeration, the movie as got everything to make it a classic. It's got sci fi, comedy, drama, romance, great casting, writing... list goes on. It's probably the movie I've watched the most. The film I think inspired many and makes everything look great about the 80's. I confess years when I'm in a performing arts group, I always suggest doing a stage version of Back To The Future and of course hoping to play Marty myself. Sadly these suggestions always seem to get ignored. Anyway it's a timeless classic and If they dared attempting to remake this, then I could it spanning into a massive protest among fans. I was get prepared for an announcement of a forth movie, you just know in the back of your mind and some point the studio will milk on the idea of the success of this franchise.

Back to the Future is been around for 30 years and it remained with us BTTF fans for the rest of our lives. it spawned two sequels, the Video Game series, The Cartoon series, the BTTF ride and the comic book series. in Doc's words in BTTF part III, "The Future hasn't been written yet, the future is whenever we make it, to make a good one."

This franchise truly holds a special place in my heart, due to it being the main thing that got me into time travel as a kid. As much as I love Doctor Who, I only got into it once I was 10 years old, but Back to the Future I first saw before I can even remember.
I remember watching the trilogy again with a group of people who haven't seen it before and having a great time. I was disappointed though when someone else who I just watched it for the first time said they were disappointed by it. We both agreed that the reason for this was probably because that he was already familiar with all the tropes done in the movie. It's a shame

Your editing is spotless. I really enjoyed watching this Restrospect.
If I can sum up Back to the Future in one word, it would be: timeless.
I did think that seemed a little odd that George & Lorraine didn't question how Marty looked strikingly the same as the kid who got the two of them together back in 1955. But, that would be just picking at straws at the stage of the film and it's best left alone.
As you rightly said; it's been 30 years since the release and it has not aged one bit. It's also touched so many lives as it shown in the Netflix documentary Back In Time. I don't have a bad word for this movie. It's a Masterpiece

A stone-cold classic. When you see people making excuses for mediocre blockbuster movies nowadays, they always say "What do you expect? They're just big dumb popcorn movies", it always makes me sad.
Films like this, Ghostbusters, Jaws etc. WERE the popcorn movies of the past. Being a blockbuster popcorn flick is no excuse when you see just how better crafted BTTF is in comparison to the likes of the Transformers films.
