Croat soldiers ran into an IED ( improvised explosive device) in their Patria in Afghanistan. The explosion was so strong that the vehicle "flew" into the air and crashed onto the roof. There were minor injuries of soldiers, but no one died. So much about Patria AMW. We should build more, at least another 200 pieces.
And that was one of the huge selling points for them back in the day. If it's the same thing we are talking about then pictures of the aftermath were used at marketing and it really looked like there's no way people survived.
Yeap, we need to build more of these and mount a Oto Malera 76mm turret on them. The rapid fire gun can unload 60-80 rounds per minute. Perfect for SHORAD that we need to aquire. DART ammo will provida anti air capability. Vulcano ammo will provide indirect fire ability. Tbere is even APFSDS ammo.
Patria has a 6x6 vehicle coming up. This is not a variant of the AMV but more like a modernized version of the Sisu XA-180. I think the main point of it is the improved armour.

It's quite accurate. Like it or not, BJ Clinton, Hussein Obama, Hillary, McCain, and Brandon did everything they could to re-start the COLD WAR. They pulled it off.
you mean our corrupt politician got a bribe from this company because 4 years before one patria was 500,000 euro cheaper than today (?), nonetheless we could construct our own BVP's in Slovakia which would be a lot cheaper, even the ammunition is the same caliber but this Patria is 7 times more expensive which means less ammunition for soldiers to train means less experience with these AMVs
@@peabase Thats because he is wrong. The vehicle from 4 years ago is not the same as the one offered today. The project was called Vydra and was modified original AMV. What we are buying now is AMVXP with slovak turret, canon and czech electro-optics...Also the price from 4 years ago did not include several items the current one does + 4 years of inflation and suddenly 10% price increase is not so strange...
@@christianpethukov8155 The controversy was regarding the transparency and conduct of the previous government not Patria though. eg. MOD did not include electronic and optic systems in the cost assesment and order proposal and claimed ridiculous 80% involvement of slovak industry, etc. Now when they are in oposition, they complain the current order is unfavourable...
Finnish Defence Forces got 62 of the XA-360 variant and 18 of the XA-361 variant, so reduction from planned 100 to 80, but 18 more AMOS systems, witch are also manufactured by Patria. Theres also Patria 6x6, witch is same generation as this Patria AMV, but more like the original Pasi. FDF ordered 160 of those with Latvia, who ordered 200.
Slovakia has cancelled the Vydra projcet based on the AMV and is instead getting the latest AMV XP, most probably with KONSTRUKTA remote turret. Contract to be signed by end of 2022. EDIT: It has been quite difficult to find what exact armament will the Slovak AMV have, but it will in the end be a Slovak turret by EVPU - Turra30 with a GTS30/N autocannon(by ZTS Special), which is licensed 2A42 adapted to NATO 30x173mm (it has been in prototype stage during trials). This turret and more importantly canon was an additional request by Slovak MOD as a cost saving measure to the 2 finalists (AMV+Pandur II). Both canon and turret are domestically produced and the russian ammo variant of the cannon+turret is currently in use in modernized BMP2s, Slovakia has currently. Here is the same turret with Bushmaster II mounted on Czech Pandur II. ua-cam.com/video/zsS0hpep6aQ/v-deo.html According to the MOD the advantages besides domestic production over other offered turret+canon combo were Price(50% saving over BushmasterII on the same turret) and weight. The disadvantages were lack of protection on the turret (weight compromise) and inability to reload under armor.
A real shame the UK turned this down and that AMOS would be GREAT for the UK as they got rid of their tracked 105mm guns sometime ago you don't always need something as large as the 155mm gun and the AS90 which the UK only has now to use. Thank you for the video and thumbs up. 👍
Afaik, one of the four modules the UK has so far ordered for their giant Boxer fleet is a mortar-carrier module, developed and built by RBLS (Rheinmetall BAE Land Systems) in Telford. Though I have to admit it doesn't look as cool. Basically the roof opens on the back of the boxer and a crew of four starts frantically dropping 120mm shells into the semi-automatic launcher. But according to RBLS it features a fire-control system with "automatic target acquisition". In any case, Britain will have plenty of those. And there are so many mission modules for the Boxer, some of which are the result of decades of development work. Like the RCH 155 artillery module, which is basically a fully automated version of the Panzerhaubitze 2000 - don't google it, it's incredibly ugly. But it only needs a 2 man crew that doesn't have to leave the safety of the driving module, can fire 9 155mm rounds per minute and apparently is even able to fire accurately as a PzH 2000 while on the move. There's a bridge-layer module, a 105mm gun module, the Skyranger 30 SHORAD module with it's own tracking-radar and an AHEAD-autocannon. Pretty sure the UK has made the right choice.
The video starting at 2:55 is from the regiment where I served about a year in the swedish military, among other things, I was a radio operator on one of those patria AMV:s. (Called Patgb 360 in sweden). Great vehicle, very comfortable in terrain.
Croatian Patria with 30 mm cannon has also Spike rockets for anti tank combat and new ones are recently orderd for uprade from Elbit system who makes turret.
Too nice video about( Patria AMV Finland 🇫🇮 designed Armour vehicle and video clearly explains its background designed and its successful characteristics thanks ( detective weapon) channel for sharing this wonderful video
Yes a real shame the UK turned this down as it is amphibious and the Boxer is not yet we were told here in the UK that we were getting Boxer because Russia is a threat to Europe but Europe has large rivers to cross along with more lakes than other places it might go ?? Thank you.
@@RJM1011 U can have good armor or an amphibious vehicle but not booth. And I think the amphibious skills are overastimated. There are only some parts of the troop which really need them like reconnaissance units. For the most other a better protected vehicle would be the better choice. In Germany the pattria become the behind front taxi for e.g. electronic warfare. And the modular system of the boxer is really cool!
@@DeltaStar777 The XA, aka PASI, is a completely different vehicle with a completely different manufacturer and designer. Though the new 6x6 by patria is basically just a modernised and reinvented PASI.
@@kk-gr3ly Well not completely different manufacturer since Sisu Defense is predecessor company of modern Patria. Sisu Auto decided to leave defense business and military vehicle parts of Sisu joined Patria. Now Sisu is back to armored vehicles with Sisu GTP.
The Nordic countries really come up with some cool unique military aircraft, ships, and vehicles. Just think what the Ukrainians could do with one of those mortar carriers.
Video suggestion, I guess. Considering that it's already very present in Mediterranean fleets and that since the US Navy is adopting it as well it will soon become one of the most ubiquitous ship designs, it would make sense to make a video on the FREMM class frigate and its many variants.
I was lucky enough to get a 6 month ride on the SISU PASI XA-180 while serving in UNIFIL, Lebanon in1996/7 as a member of the Force Mobile Reserve. Some were fitted with prop-thrusters to assist traversing in water. Strong reliable vehicles. Our driver was one Cpl Timo Kossila of the Finnish Army.
There is a competition in Japan between the Patria and a home grown Mitsubishi IFV. I think Mitsubishi will win but the Patria is a very well made vehicle
Well such a great video! The wheeled military vehicles as topic for me like a chocolate cake with so much extra chocolate! But let's see the Patria. And let my analyse this wonderful vehicle for me, and please correct me if I'm wrong. Well let's clear something in my view smaller and weaker countries like Slovakia, Croatia, Slovenia or even my country Hungary shouldnt force the use of MBTs, or just in a very limited number. Why? First: the Leopard2A6 cost about 5.6 millon €, the Leopard2A7 is already cost 13-15 million € (This is more than 5 billion HUF), and we haven't talk about other maintenance prices. Just the fuel, you have to move a 60+ tons tank with 70km/h , you roll to the petrol station once and you will be the customer of the year immediately. So for the smaller armies the wheeled vehicles would be great alternative, to transport our troops and give them fire support againts MBTs more over they could use as tanks. Okay it's a bit crazy but there is the Rooikat MTTD or the allmighty Centauro B1 and B2. They design to be Tanks. And you dear Detective called it as Wheeled Tank. To be honest I hate to use this phrase because usually 7 year old kids use it for every Armored Wheeled Vehicles. But in this case it was the 2 best words to describe it. The B1 variant which is still worthy is 1.6 million € the much modern B2 variant cost ~10 million € but it is not the proper price, because I calculated it from an Italian 1.5 billion € pact which is inculding 150 units with additions and spare parts. But why am I talking about it? Because in my opinion the Centauro family and GTK Boxer are the best wheeled vehicles in Europe or even in the NATO. And there is the Patria AMV almost as advanced as the GTK Boxer but cheaper. Not to much cheaper only 210k € the difference. And both of them used by 7 countries. But why would be the AMV a better choice than the GTK. To be honest I am a great fan of the German one. But if I think as a politician, the AMV is great because the Finnish love to cooperate with me, like with the other countries. They let me to produce the vehicle in my country to create new moduls for it. And because I produce it locally, the cost of the transportation isn't a problem. Well in case of the Rheinmethall, I'm not sure about they would cooperate on this level. And both vehicle modular, and the AMV has 120mm turret version and maybe the Rheinmethall would create a Boxer with a 120mm turret if a country ask them. But dear Detective I have quarry abot this. I just thinking, in this scope of duty could be a modular vehicle which is planned to be everything that a Wheeled Vehicle could be, as good, as that one which is design to be a tank, a wheeled tank? To end my brainstorming. The Patria AMV is more than a great vehicle, it is a great choice and a lethal weapon. And it has dignified look. And the match of the GTK or any new Generation armored vehicle. Thank you so much for the video, you gilded my day with it. Have a nice day Detective!
@@TheDerperado I was going to say the same thing about crew of three. Because he said "The XA-360 variant of the Finnish Army...". And didn´t mention anything about Nemo only Amos.
Im a gunner in XA-360 and it is possible to command AMV from the gunners seat and operate the weapon system at the same time. It's not easy, visibility and situational awareness are poor when compared to having a separate commander. I have done it myself in one exercise quite succesfully when our commander was sick, but AMV is definetly a vehicle for three men crew.
@@TheDerperado I was the commander, and yes you can lead the vehicle from the gunners seat but you don't have the radios there. Also like you said you can't see anything else than straight forward plus what you see from the screen. And there is no monkey head at the commanders position, so gunner/commander would not be so great.
Hmmm, we French are not very good at collaborating with other countries. Pride? Stupidity? Nationalism? I do not know. But almost every time we have withdrawn from a European project, the result has been remarkable. The VBCI for example is quite escepyional, the Rafale is just as much, the Leclerc is currently the best tank in Western Europe. So yes, we don't do anything like everyone else, but maybe that's the French exception. And thank you very much for this video of a vehicle that I knew absolutely nothing about. Thanks a lot. Currently the negotiations with Germany for the construction of a new sixth generation fighter are in the process of sinking and as a Frenchman I find that very good. We don't need fritz to build planes, tanks or ships.
First of all, absolutely not out of stupidity. Almost everytime? Kind of questionable. Amx-30 was worse than Leopard 1, Leclerc absolutely is not the best in western europe, Leopard 2A7V is better, M1A2 sepv3 is even better, but ok, Abrams will be in eastern europe. Leclerc has some nice features and some advantages over Leopard 2, but overall Leopard 2 design is better, in terms of armour protection especially, where Leopard 2 has huge flaws also. (Don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean Leclerc is bad mbt, its still one of the best mbts in the world, just not enough to be on top.) VBCI is definietly good, but i am afraid not better than Boxer in most cases and its not because your country couldn't do better designing VBCI or anything like that, its just because of the requirements. Boxer is much better protected and has much better armament (is much heavier also), because VBCI must have been able to be transported by A400M. Like always in the military design, something for something. Rafale is hands down better than EF2000, there is a reason why countries are buying pretty much only F35s and Rafale. It's the best european designed fighter aircraft, EF2000 is a meme. BUT i wouldn't be so happy in your position about FCAS. I belive French aviation industry is superior to German, but new 6th gen aircraft needs tons of money, in fact, French and German money combined wouldn't be enough. There are only 2 countries in the world that can handle the costs of developing 6th gen aircraft alone, USA and China. And only 1 of them have technologies to do so, USA. Finally, yes, you absolutely don't need fritz to build your planes, tanks or ships, but you can learn something good about land platforms from Germany and USA, especially USA, and there is nothing wrong with learning.
Leclerc is fine tank indeed. But best? Far reach, it's optics/fire control systems are out of date compared to leopards. It's heaviest armored one though, but it doesn't really matter anymore.
Doing anything with Germans is no good because France has totally different needs. You have very significant army designed for small wars in Africa. Germans has no army and don't want to have one so they are only thinking about foreign customers. There is many of them so it''s always one size fits all, no good for anybody.
When ever you use names like XA-360 or even worse BOV-P12,7 You really should have it as a text on the screen. Makes it much easier to follow and understand.
Dunno about VBCI but - Patria AMV XP 5.9m€ a vehicle (for Slovakia), 447m€ for 76 vehicles - Boxer 7.6m€ a vehicle (for Slovenia, deal cancelled due to missing equipment required within price tag), 343m€ for 45 vehicles
Kongsberg owns a significant part of Patria, and Patria owns a significant part of Kongsberg. And now Finland and Sweden are in NATO. Nordic brothers stand together.
Why has evey video of yours varying degrees of volume? From one moment to the next the volume increases or decreases somehow. Would be great if you could improve on that so that the volume stays always the same and stable. Otherwise great work!
Patria is great AFV. For EUROPE! Nobody has more knowledge or experience of building vehicles for thenAfrican Bush. They will be much better off with a indigenous vehicle. The corruptions in the South African Arms deal is still to come to light.
So, in other words, the RG-32 armoured cars Finland bought from South Africa are no good in Europe? Where were you when the Finnish Defence Forces were ordering them? You should have told them not to do it and get European armoured cars instead as only they work in Europe.

As for Rosomak there is a problem consortium producing 15% under license since 2000,s "assembling of parts" ... without the knowledge of the government signed the papers for XP versions that cost 15%-25% more. Anyway our improvements after Afghanistan cost us by licenses a lot "replacement of turret drives etc.etc. And the knowledge regarding improvements after went to the Patria so for our uprgrades we had to pay and ask to make them .... 100% political decision by Poland. Domestic production and the goal of pushing into the European defense market, thereby weakening the German defense industry were the dominant factors for this immense purchase. The Rheinmetall Boxer would be the better choice. The modular concept of the Boxer and its tactical and strategic value is just unmatched. Smart from a political standpoint, tho. Very smart indeed
Sorry for necroposting, but... Being able to manufacture and maintain your own equimpent yourself is a far larger benefit than improving your military-industrial position in comparison to an allied country. It was not a political decision, it was a logistical and economical decision. (Since Poland started recovering economically after the 90s, Poland's been prioritizing equipment procurement options that allow for domestic production, with the main purpose of stimulating the growth of domestic military-industrial complex.)

Patria shot itself in the knee while renegotiating deal with Poland. They've got to favorable conditions and then went obstructing aquisition of new Rosomaks by Polish Armed Forces. Because of that, now Poland struck a deal with South Korea. Rosomaks v2 will be based on k808. That means, that biggest AMV operator will phase them down. All because licensing and strongarming done by Patria.
@@peabase Well nope. You need to consider that "Rosomak" variant is the most delivered of them all. More than half Patria AMVs are Rosomaks. Even though, they are produced locally, Patria still suplies vital parts as well as getting it's "cut" for every model built. Rosomaks were sent as first AMV variant to war and in result provided neccessary data for future development, as well giving free advertisment. Not to mention, all subvariants of Rosomaks. Polish armed forces used it in variety of roles (mortars, command, scout, logistics, artillery fire direction etc.), which again, meant development and data. All it was needed from Patria was to treat poles with a little respect (and I say a little, nobody expects fins to give up their tech for free, but polish industry was counting on long term partnership). This is the same story as with Hitfist turret for Rosomaks. Italians started to count poles 3 times more, than everybody else for parts and repairs, because they could. It ended up with development of alternative ZSSW-30 turret, which will be put not only on new Rosomaks, but also Borsuks IFVs. Italians really didn't learnt their lessons, as poles approached them for thermal optics devices for new turrets. Yet again they've tried to squeze polish armed forces for money. It ended up with polish industry providing better alternative.
@@keeperofthefate Poles are in this case really arrogant, all the more so when people try to be friendly to them. They got the best vehicle in the market at the time of purchase, which has since saved countless Polish lives in real combat and manufactured in their own country for maximum benefit for them but yet they complain about... money. Decisions of defense companies aside Finland is also tired of always paying for the rest of EU at the expense of its own people.
@@herptek But Patria is a private company. It doesn't pay a dime to Poland. It earns money on partnership and deals with polish industry and armed forces. Finland does not subsidize polish armed forces. EU money goes to infrastructure or communal projects. There is no Rosomak in polish armed forces going around with sticker "financed by EU/Finland funds". Arrogant is Patria. Polish gov wanted to buy more Rosomak chasii for new ZSSW-30 turret. There were supposed to be 300 of them. Instead, only 70, in stock will be fitted with new turret. That's 230 less new Rosomaks, of which Patria could get money. They've raised prices, so they have to live with it.

Slovakia has cancelled the Vydra projcet based on the AMV and is instead getting the latest AMV XP, most probably with KONSTRUKTA remote turret. Contract to be signed by end of 2022.
EDIT:
It has been quite difficult to find what exact armament will the Slovak AMV have, but it will in the end be a Slovak turret by EVPU - Turra30 with a GTS30/N autocannon(by ZTS Special), which is licensed 2A42 adapted to NATO 30x173mm (it has been in prototype stage during trials).
Here is the same turret with Bushmaster II mounted on Czech Pandur II.
ua-cam.com/video/zsS0hpep6aQ/v-deo.html
According to the MOD the advantages besides domestic production over other offered turret+canon combo were Price(50% saving over BushmasterII on the same turret) and weight. The disadvantages were lack of protection on the turret (weight compromise) and inability to reload under armor.
One of the best in its class today.
Finland are going to be another awesome NATO member, welcome to the team !! 😆👍

The AMOS turret... That mot..fuc... is a real deal!!!

Finnish AMV has a crew of three (driver, gunner, commander), not two.
Probably meant the crew with out the gun.
@@pipopoikapelaa5468 Possibly, but Finland does not have any AMV's in service without a gun turret.
First of all,
absolutely not out of stupidity. Almost everytime? Kind of questionable. Amx-30 was worse than Leopard 1, Leclerc
absolutely is not the best in western europe, Leopard 2A7V is better, M1A2 sepv3 is even better, but ok, Abrams will be in eastern europe. Leclerc has some nice features and some advantages over Leopard 2, but overall Leopard 2 design is better, in terms of armour protection especially, where Leopard 2 has huge flaws also. (Don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean Leclerc is bad mbt, its still one of the best mbts in the world, just not enough to be on top.) VBCI is definietly good, but i am afraid not better than Boxer in most cases and its not because your country couldn't do better designing VBCI or anything like that, its just because of the
requirements.
Not true. You collaborated wonderfully with Germany during WWII.
Leclerc is fine tank indeed. But best? Far reach, it's optics/fire control systems are out of date compared to leopards. It's heaviest armored one though, but it doesn't really matter anymore.
@@kaamoshaamu leclerc has pretty bad armour, its worse than the armour of a 2a5
Doing anything with Germans is no good because France has totally different needs. You have very significant army designed for small wars in Africa. Germans has no army and don't want to have one so they are only thinking about foreign customers. There is many of them so it''s always one size fits all, no good for anybody.

:(
Patria's business is booming. No need for handouts to Poles, who receive EU handouts from Finland already.
BMP is like a cheap lada while AMV is the rolls royce, so it definitely can withstand such amout if not more.
the bmp 1 is a 1960s vehicle only made to protect from HEAVY MG fire and artillery fragment not modern treats like IEDs
If it detonates under the wheel..
