If I had to live in a world where zombies roamed the countries, I'd wanna drive the Patria to survive. Btw, the Patria is a promising candidate for the next AMV for the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force. 👍
is it modular enough to be able to be fitted with periscopes for the troop compartment, so that the dismounts can observe and orient themselves as to their surroundings without leaving the vehicle or exposing themselves through the hatches?
I know this is 7 years old comment, but they have cams around it with monitors in it for both crew and infantry so they can see what going on around the vehicle before jumping out. Edit. Those cams also come with thermals.
@@SO-Negative i've served in one during those 7 years for a short time. The monitors for the dismounts are tiny and certainly not thermal. They are in colour, at least, but we barely ever used them for anything other than boredom and on one vehicle, the rear monitor was dead, so... That said, i didn't do night ops in them, so not sure if they switch to thermal at night.
@@MatoVuc I have no own experience of the monitor sizes on them since I've only been in Pasi, but yeah I wouldn't assume them to be very big since the space inside the vehicle is restricted. If I remember right tho they had optional thermal that can be activated for example at night. Not 100% sure tho, as I said I have no own experience but only what I remember of hearing.

Is this AMV XP 8X8 available in RHD for use by armed forces from India, England & Australia etc??? Secondly can the driver's look out in the front be bigger with a 38.0 in. front & side windows???
Fine vehicle. I think why Russian militarians didn't buy Patria, as the matter of fact they considered to buy 500 units of Patria to replace BTR-class vehicles.
+Vened Warlock Finland is closer to NATO than Russia and in case of a conflict, Finland probably wouldn't provide parts and expertise to maintain russian Patrias. That might have made a difference when they were deciding.
relic Yes, it's proper reason. But there's a fact: some Volvo trucks (finally assembled in Russia) are on duty in Russian army. Sweden is closer to NATO than to Russia as well as Finland is. It's a bit weird, but when Serdyukov was minister of defense of Russia there was a lot of strange solutions.. order for Mistral ships, buying armoured vehicles in Italy, other intentions to buy weapon and military technics in states, which are belonging to NATO.
Vened Warlock Volvo Trucks are mainly civilian vehicles though. Also, Volvo has production plants inside Russia, so that's not that strange. www.volvogroup.com/group/global/en-gb/newsmedia/pressreleases/previous/2009/_layouts/CWP.Internet.VolvoCom/NewsItem.aspx?News.ItemId=56202&News.Language=en-gb He was probably trying to create a better relation with NATO, which is a good thing. The recent tension between Russia and NATO is bad for the world and increases the chances of conflicts. Though, to be honest, Russia would never actually get in to an armed conflict with NATO at this stage. NATO's combined military strength is just too large compared to Russia's.
relic But NATO didn't stop ISIS and even allowed its growth. Russian airstrikes to ISIS are much more efficient than NATO actions all the time before. Western media underrates Russian army, Russians had proven it. BBC movie about Latgall (in Latvia) is complete shit, Russian are laughing. Look at wing missiles Kalibr, which were launched from Caspian Sea and reached targets in Syria at range more than 1500 kilometres and accuracy 5 meters. Besides, Russia has nuke and thermonuke weapon, and delivery vehicles for it. Also remember about wars against Russia, for example Napoleon, Hitler... they thought Russians are weak and dumb, but they lost. I don't claim, that Russia will win, but nobody wins in case of real war.
+Vened Warlock Both Napoleon and Hitler underestimated one simple thing; The winter and cold weather. That is what has really saved Russians at least twice. Stalin made also massive mistakes by killing a lot of the talented military leaders before the war. And Russians underestimated Finns too . . . They tougth they were going to take Finland in 2 weeks. Well Finns had a lot of luck too.
Tip for Patria: Most countries in the world don't transport their armor by aviation, you'll get more sales if you aren't constrained by the mindset of external volume restrictions. It makes your vehicletoo much like a box, the 90 degree walls lead to inefficiency in armor and mobility. Also look into Patrol Boat River project in America, and the reason for the success of pump jets.
As far as the desing goes, this isn't really desinged for aerial transportation. In Finland there are maybe three or four airfields large enough to land a plane the size required. And if i do remeber correctly, AMV was somewhat desingned after what the FDF wanted. And for the armor: yes, it looks bulky and odd. But i think there was some funny structural stuff going on that you don't really see.
