Yamaha VSTAR 1100 Disassembly with Carb Removal for General Maintenance
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- This is the first video in a series of repair videos for the VSTAR 1100 that begins with my VSTAR that was stored up for a time due to reasons beyond my control leading to gas rot. This is not really a big deal as it can be solved doing a comprehensive maintenance, something I do anyway on this 2001 Silverado edition.
Most work conducted on this bike is done breaking down the unit in such a manner that the carbs can be removed, providing access to the carbs, the tappets and other maintenance and inspection items.
This video covers these breakdown preparation actions as well is what is found along the way, so that items can be inspected and repaired in upcoming videos.
Bud your videos and way of explaining things has to be one of the best videos I have ever seen on a how to type of content......wish I woulda found your channel sooner.
I appreciate that!
You have done me a great service sir. Just spent 6 hours taking my bike apart and cleaning the carbs/fixing an o-ring leak. You are the GOAT 🐐
Glad to help
Dude. Great great great video. Never touched anything like this in my life and I got it off within 30 minutes. Great stuff
Glad to hear it helped!
I like your videos . I have a vstar 1100 myself and enjoy doing my own work. Very informative and well explained so even a halfwit like me can understand it.
Thank you so much for posting this video. Gave me the confidence to tackle this job myself and now my bike is running great! Your a life saver
Glad it helped!
These videos have been a godsend to me. Thank you so much
Glad you like them!
This is BY FAR the best video about Vstar carbs period. Thanks Bro. 🤙🏻
Glad it was helpful!
These vids are so helpful....you recorded with great quality and lighting too. I can see everything clearly which really helps a ton.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for making this video. I was all ready to go dismantle my bike cause she is leaking oil/fuel from the air intake boots. But now I am second thinking it. I have some mechanical skills but don’t know if I can tackle this without screwing up my bike and it never running again. Wish I had your knowledge. Or a motorcycle buddy with the knowledge. Shops change so much and my bike just sits now. Sucks!
Excellent video, I learned a lot. Regards from the UK 🇬🇧
Not sure how many 1100’s there are in England or how many were sold there. Glad to help.
Thank you so much really appreciate this video. Help me get my bike put all together. Awesome video.
Glad it helped!
brought back flashbacks of tearing out the 4 carbs on my sabre. literally could smell the bad gas in my mind
A smell one never forgets
Your video was very helpful just recently got my first bike a 650 vstar classic have no experience working on one either but your videos are gonna get me thru it just waiting for my rebuild kits and ill be on my way thanks for the videos you just got another sub
The 650 is a bit different than the 1100.
Thanx Man! It's Dudes like You that make UA-cam such a Cool place... about to do this same operation to my 1100 this wknd. Peace
Glad I was able to help!
Fantastic video. I am also going to try it. Thanks you are an excellent teacher. Please make lots of videos for the 1100.
More to come.
Awesome video! Awesome narration as well, just amazing.
Glad you liked it!
Again your videos helped me out a lot. I have a BT1100 but it has the same engine. Thanks.
You’re welcome.
Thanks, your video definitely saved some time for my current disassembly.
glad i could help.
Great Part 1- Feel very prepared to jump into the Vstar jungle now :)
Glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful.
Great videos! Going to give it a try! Thanks for posting.
Great video , I'm in the process changing my carburator out some Reason seems not getting gas are it's flooding
Very helpful. Best video on UA-cam!!
Glad you think so!
Спасибо за подробное видео и классную работу! Очень мне помогло!
My friend, I own a 06 V-Star 1100 Silverado, I’ve been using Startron Fuel Enzyme in the gas tank for over ten years. It’s protected the fuel system 100%. I highly recommend you try some. You will be pleasantly surprised, I guarantee!
I’ve had good success with ethanol free and a splash of stabilizer.
I'am in love with this bike
I live in Germany and recently had my XVS 1100 Dragstar classic (European version of the V.Star) in the shop because live the bike in the video I had let it sit for a few years and the gas turned to slop. I had the bike towed there in order not to gunk up the fuel system with the old gas. The shop supposedly overhauled the carbs, adjusted the valves and installed a new peacock. When I picked up the bike it seemed to run pretty good, not great but good. But gradually the bike started having issues and it got to the point ( after only 600 kilometers) that I needed to drive with the choke on all the time. Long story short, i brought the bike back and explained what was happening and they told me that I was to blame because i only drove 600 kilometers in 3 months and that would cause the fuel system to gunk up again. They ended up cranking up the idle and SOLD me a can of fuel additive and told me to come back after i pushed a tank of fuel with the additive through the system. The bike still isn't running great. I would appreciate any thoughts , opinions or advice on what is going on. Thanks.
The carbs and the complete fuel system need to be recleaned. The carbs in an ultrasonic cleaner.
EXCELLENT!! THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!
My pleasure!
Thx for the vidz man i just got a 2005 Vstar 1100, i'm about to do my carbs now after i get done with my brake fluid flush
Check out the brake flush videos I posted too.
Great explanation.Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Good video. It helped me remove my carburetor
Glad it helped
@6:20 From what I read on starbikeforum and from my own experience, it seems the rear intake tube (for the front cylinder) should be labeled 2 and the front intake tube (for the rear cylinder) should be labeled 1.
Now syncing is not necessary unless the bike was not running right before. My understanding is that syncing is done had you purchased a brand new carb and then had to fit it to the bike. Thx!
No.
Seafoam does basically nothing for carbs. I used some redline fuel system cleaner and it made a small difference, mainly in the idle. If you have blockages, it does nothing.
Thank you, very clear and helpful!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanx.
After pulling the carburetors there are two rubber boots on each one. Earlier you pulled two L shaped ones. Which one of those is usually cracked? I paid for a diagnostic check by a shop and thought they had explained it until I realized there are 4 rubber boots and the diagrams do not give a good name to designate which is which.
Thanks for these great videos. I have just torn removed my 04 1100 V-Star carb and in the morning will begin the process of cleaning the carburetor, change filter etc. The bike was running great a little over year ago but has been sitting (with Stabil) but unfortunately I believe gas rot has set in and I have blocked jets or something as the only way the bike idles is with full choke. I do not have a shop near me. Once I clean the carb, change the fuel filter, flush he tank etc. will the bike even run good enough/safely after cleaning (it ran great before the gas rot gumming or blocking something) to get it to a shop 40 miles away to have the carbs balanced? If not, is there a particular cheap set of balancing gauge you recommend for this one time job as my sole intention is to get the bike to good/safe running condition to sell? Thanks
Great video with all details explained. I'm not a skilled mechanic and I don't think I am able to dismantle all parts and to separate the carbs. My problem is the pilot jet which I think is clogged in the back cylinder. I have filled the tank with carb cleaning liquid without success and realize that I need to remove the carbs. Is it possible to open the cover for the float chamber only for the clogged one so that I can clean the jets for only that one and then put the carbs back without synchronize them? Björn
You will need to drill out the cap for the pilot and replace the oring. The carbs must be removed and disassembled properly.
Thanks for your video, I wonder if it is the same method for VStar 1300, first time I’m going to access that carburetor.
Well done!
Thank you.
Will you do a video checking and staking the nut by the speed sensor for drive shaft yoke?
I have to really thank you for this video cause I think I am going through the same thing on my bike right now. Bikes been sitting for awhile. And when I ride smells like gasoline
Intake clamps were a bit loose
But wondering if the carb is also gunked. Will pull tank off tomorrow.
take em off , open em up and find out.
Great video! You were very informative.
If anyone read this?
My 1100 (Just bought) seems like its having carb issues.
It starts and idles fine, revs great- but it seems once under load the bike falls on its face. Pulls hard for a split second, then blahhhhhh. Dunno yet. Only has 10.000 miles?
Clogged carb...
@@retrotechandelectronics I think I figured out, its an 06- the TPS was dissconected along with both shut solenoids being broke too... The carbs are probably gunked up no doubt- but I'm just going to build a 1-2 manifold and run a flatside 40. Never again will I trade/buy another bike with carbs lol.
@@123vaw123 The shut solenoids are garbage and have no bearing on the bike. Some CARBEO crap. The TPS is a big issue, incidentally, would also cause massive problems on a fuel injected bike too..... These carbs are no big deal to maintain. The main issue is people fill them with gas and never ride them, and the gas rots in the carbs. You will find FI does the same thing, just much more expensive to repair.
Good video. Thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Just a note, Cali bikes had a vapor system plumbed into the tank adding additional hoses.
....California.
Where did u purchase the aftermarket PMS screw, I also wanted to tell you that your videos are awesome 👍
thanx, check here for the screw

Hey great vid 👍👍 my bike runs amazing for about an hour .. then once I stop at a red light it quits and or it idles really low then quits ... seems like it gets really hot too and the valves will chatter really loud after about an hour ... any suggestions ??
Oil, timing, fuel mixture, cooling, ... the list goes on
Just bought a vstsr 1100 classic. She ran a week and then started the sputtering under throttle. Idles great, shuts off the second I want gas. Changed plugs- not solved. Fuel filter next?
Carb.
Does anyone know the name of the electrical connection mention on 8:04 that connects to the carburetor? My bike is missing those
Wondering if you would know the fix to my throttle working to a certain point, if I barley pull it it drives at slow rpm but if i pull anymore it won’t drive
Having a issue withe starter on 06 vstar 1100 feels lt backlashes
Do you have a video on your install of your max air system and also do you or anyone know where I can buy 1 and 2 the 90'S. I just bought a 03 1100 and I need a little help...
ua-cam.com/video/U6t7X8qvk7c/v-deo.html
I just bought a vstar 1100 classic, it is very stinky and the air filter is wet. It has 46000 km on it. What would cause the stinky exhaust? Went through almost half a tank in 100 km (60 MI.)
Time for a carb rebuild, and new air filter and oil change
@@retrotechandelectronics That's what I thought. Right now I am taking parts off and putting them back on, getting used to what, where, and what is behind. Something like learning a new neighbourhood.
Where do the black/brown and solid black connect to on the carb it self?
Having a hard time finding where they go
Great video my bike seems to be getting to much fuel and it kills while riding and then won't start could the floats be sticking
Could be many things. You wont know until you do a carb removal and rebuild.
I think I need to order new parts where the carbs hook to the cylinder heads. They're all cracked. Seem to be metal but I'm afraid they might break if I mess with them.
They are rubber.
Necesito ayuda hermanos, a mi vstar 1100 le pusimos el kit de los carburadores pero no se porqué tira tanto tiro por el header cuando dejo de acelerar
Need to correct backfire when I accelerate. Please help mi is a yamaha vstar 1100cc
I followed all the instructions through all 3 videos for the vstar 1100 carb cleaning but the problem still hasn’t been fixed. The only thing I didn’t, was the carb sinc because I don’t have the manometer. The bike won’t stay on even if i ride it on medium or high speed. Do you have any idea what can be done ?
Sync is not an optional step
Which kind of store can I go to replace the screws you mentioned for the plastic top?
If its a apecific screw then can be purchased from yamaha, a generic screw can be had in any size from ace hardware.
Hi i took my carb apart and cleaned it all out. I didn't replace the o rings or the gaskets. When i went to start it leaked fuel pretty bad. It has to be coming from the carb but i cant find where. Any advice?
Leaked.... From where.............
@@retrotechandelectronics it seemed to be coming from the middle of the carburetor. And the airbox was filled with gasI bought a rebuild kit and im going to change out the needles, o rings and gaskets. Im hoping that'll help.
dont forget the o rings that go behind the float needle seats, if they fail nothing will stop gas from emptying into the carbs, bot even the floats
Hey my throttle cable snapped. I bought an after market one that came from the same bike. They parted it out. It doesn't seem to fit. Any advice? Its the pull cable
Did you measure it against the old cable.
Sorry ask, what is the correct modification filter name or number and brand. If you are so kind!
google maxair
Do you know where I can get a new gas tank, for a 2002 vstar 1100. Mine is rusty
Ebay
What Max airflow kit do you have I’m looking to change mine
I believe its called the predator pro
Carburetor the same on a 2007 custom?
Yes.
Hey what size jets are you running on the bike?
Its not stock, youd have to look at the Maxair site to see what in that kit.
While bike tore down to that point. SET VALVE LASH! ;)
I made a whole video on the valve lash procedure, check it out.
The word for the fuel valve that he "couldnt say on youtube" is called a petcock
thats the word.
Should not petcock on UA-cam.
NRA ad full of lies before video
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the ad before the video, It will help me to improve the quality of my videos in the future.
