Yamaha VSTAR 1100 Carb Install & Bike Reassembly after General Maintenance
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 тра 2018
- In this video, having completed several maintenance procedure including the Carb rebuild, valve adjustment and tank and cable repairs, the reassembly of everything is now underway. This process is the exact reverse as the first video in this series.
The first being the carb, situating it between the frame and ultimately into the manifold. This is followed by the 90 degree rubber hoses for the intake. The fuel lines can then be safely connected as well as the electrical connections.
This brings the project to the enrichener cable re-connection, followed by the two throttle cables.
Normally an airbox would follow this but I have a Maxair podkit. Regardless, this is a good time to purge the residual fuel in the system before reconnecting everything back to the carbs by way of the electric pump and a small gas tank.. The option to replace the fuel filter is also shown here.
Then the hoses are reconnected to the carbs and the bowls are filled. This is the time to check for leaks, both under the carbs and in the 90 degree tubes to see if the carbs overflowed.
The airbox then goes back on followed by the gas tank which has a main harness reconnected. followed by the fuel line to the gas tank.
Yarn is added to the timing chain tensioner to confirm a leak suspicion.
Firing up the bike for the first time points towards an immediate electrical problem requiring repair. This is the second time these connectors failed. This time 3 sealed unions were made to solve the problem.
The bike is restarted and synced to confirm everything is working good. With that the rest of the assembly is conducted, plastichrome and all. - Авто та транспорт
I've had my 07 VStar sitting for six years. Shame, I know. Followed these videos and got her started up. Thank you so much, man!
Glad to hear it!
I have a 2005 that I've owned and enjoyed since 2007. As I'm getting to the time when more than just the pain in the neck oil changes need to be done, your home garage maintenance videos are very much appreciated. They're very much better than reading a shop manual.
Right on, but never a replacement for a shop manual.
dude thx so much, I got my vstar out of a barn! cleaned my carbs, flushed brakes, then changed oil and she runs so well. excellent vids
Thanks, glad I could help.
This has helped me out alot. I'm more familiar with Honda Cb inline 4 cylinders, Mostly 70's and 80's. Never got my hands in a vtwin. I own a 2000 vstar 1100 classic due too the passing of my grandfather. I wanted to clean the bowls and jets because it sat for over 6 years. Fortunately everything was clear somehow. That was 2 months ago. It's alot more tedious, intimidating and stressful to try attempt to assemble. I think I disassembled too much. This video helped me a sht ton. Thank you 🖤🤟
Hey, great video. helped me a lot in my carb quest of my own 1100. But I believe you installed the intake joints reverse as somebody else mentioned before.I checked from exploded diagrams . the rear cylinder joint part number is 5EL-14453-00-00 that is marked with “1” and located on the shifter side. The front cylinder joint part number is 5EL-14463-00-00 and marked with “2” and located on the air cleaner side. hope this helps someone who needs.
Thanks so much for your videos! You've helped immensely as I dig into my V-Star - getting at the oil filter and now cleaning the carbs.
I’ve just posted a video on the oil filter relocation kit, if that interests you.
@@retrotechandelectronics Thanks - I watched that one! I might have to go that route in the Fall when it's due for another oil change.
If you lived closer, I have some old HP tube gear that I would just give you. If you ever get up to Iowa, drop me a line and I'll send you home with some goodies as a thanks you for your V-Star videos!
Excellent tutorial. Amazing quality video! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks.
Your videos helped me today to clean and rejet my carbs, and adjust the valves. :)
Thank you very much
Best regards.

Glad I could help!
Just started to get familiar with my newly acquired preowned vstar 1100. Thank you very much for the video. I've subscribed to your channel. cheers
Welcome aboard!
Outstanding work! Thank you, Sir.
You’re welcome. Glad it was helpful.
Great series, I learned a bunch but you sure do say Right for no reason a lot. Right
Right?
You do very good work and your video is outstanding. Thank you. I'm thinking about adding extended cables and a brake line and extending the handle bars. I see how the push/pull cables and the choke attaches to the bike. The brake hose is pretty straight forward also.
Thank you, yes the linkage is not complicated, but needs to be pre-measured with the bars fully turned.
Man this was so helpful. Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
I was watching this and realized I may have moved the little but on the bottom of the throttle sensor cable. How would you make sure it’s in a good position?
Jeremy Delgado throttle sensor cable?
Retro Tech & Electronics I’m sorry, the throttle cable! I didn’t mean to put sensor in there
Just reinstalled carbs on my 2000 XVS 1100 after break down, clean and rebuild. Also had to replace gasket and float valve. Bike runs beautifully again. Would never have attempted any of this without your great set of videos. Very clear and concise. Thanks so much for making them.
Glad to help.
Okay, I found the Carb Sync on this video starting at : 13:39 I am so glad that you made this video. Although my bike now seems to run like new.. ( thanks to you) I still want to check the synchronization and more importantly learn how to do it. One last thing, I will be getting some extra money at the end of the month, and I will send you some Beer or Starbucks money via your paypal. I am a single Dad with full custody of my two youngest children and funds are tight. Nonetheless, you deserve so much more, and I send what I can. No doubt I really appreciate being able to ride my motorcycle again. Thank you so much again Jordan!
Thanks for your support, sadly the biggest issue I face with youtube is the new algorithm is measuring videos on LIKES not views or watch time so when nobody hits the like button they are getting burying, many channels got hit since august including mine. I'm guilty of this too, as I dont hit the LIKE button on every video I watch but this has become the all important thing for youtube as of late...
@@retrotechandelectronics I always click like and I definitely understand that it is helpful and motivating. Like you I have many interests including provide support myself on websites such as XDA, TechNet, Apple etc. Everyday, I talk to people who PM me on these sites. Certainly many of these people are also into motorcycles or they are also lifelong musicians with tube amps and would likely benefit by watching your content or reading your Blog. I will get the word out, and share the links to your sites. Also send you a message via Paypal in a couple of weeks. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Enjoy your weekend too. Today another big motorcycle project was completed..... now comes the endless editing...
Note Im also adding a new Genre ....... POSSIBLY....... for ESP32. Im not sure yet if ill be documenting this work.
@@retrotechandelectronics That would be great and would surely generate some interest. To be honest, I haven't had a chance to get into learning more about Arduino yet. But I am sure that it is something that I could become passionate about. So yeah, I would definitely watch.
Man wish I could do the adjustments on my 1100 v star...had them rebuilt n got the bike running to rich n now having issues starting it...
Great videos I hope it’s as easy as you make it look, I accidentally put to much oil in when I did an oil change now I got an oil leak from the breather tube.
I have a video that specifically discusses this.
Very much appreciation for your video's. Saving Men like us lots of hard earned money.
I have a 2006 V Star 1100 classic about to use your video to clean them up. My check engine light came on code 58 FUEL SHUT OFF SOLENOID VALVE 2. I am praying you can show which part that is.
I address this valve in my star650 video.
Thanks man, great video. The only thing to make these videos better is a cameraman to do the shooting for you.
Are you volunteering to pay the associated costs for a second individual to man the camera?
Retro tech. He just offered no need to be a dick!
Thank you for all your videos. I also noticed we have more than a vstar in common with the stainless in the background. Where are you located?
These damn carbs are a pain in the ass to put in. I just broke the connection on the rear carb fuel shutoff valve attempting to get the carbs to set in their respective positions and they are still not in. I have been fighting these things for the last hour. Damn engineers!!
I should not be, they go in quite easy, something else is wrong.
Great video! Once question. The hose shown on the right side of the bike at 6:50 doesnt seem to connect anywhere. It comes from the carb, but there is nowhere for it to connect to. When I start the bike it spills fuel. Any help would be very appreciated!
Please help! After following your videos to a tee I got my carb rebuilt and installed on bike and now the bike vibrates and stalls when driving. It idles but idles rough. Exhaust is popping. I'm at a loss
Edit: found the issue, it wasn't shown in the video but when you remove the jet needle and rubber diaphragm, right where that needle slides into is a silver washer/sleeve looking thing. It prevents your slide needle from getting stuck open.
heel moi getoond dikke merci
blij dat je het leuk vond
are those motion pro cables?
Hey man I love your videos thank you for made it. I just buy a part of Yamaha V-Star 1100. And it's no wire in it. How can I reconnect everything back if I don't have any idea?
Purchase the shop manual;.
I’m so appreciative of your videos. We’re it not for them, I NEVER would have undertaken the job of removing/reinstall the carbs on my 1100. I’m leaving the cleaning/rebuild part to an expert.
On another matter, do you have an email or FB Messenger adress? I’d like to get your advice/opinion about the VStar in particular.
Thanks
Great videos. I followed the disassembly and re-assembly videos. All I did was clean out the carbs and Jets. Got the carbs reassembled however the bike wouldn’t start. Any ideas? It looks like there fuel at the bottom of one of the carbs intake ducts but not the other...
thats not good. your float needle is not holding gas on one of them
I rebuild my carb after sitting in the backyard for 4 years. But my throttle was stiff at the carb moving the cable. While was dissambled I could feel it to. Where this problem can be alleviate. Cables are good
Id put the whole carb in a cleaning tank like a do in other videos. A further disassembly of the throttle plates may also be in order. TPS should be checked too.

You can have this much fun with fuel injection.
When you nearly had a fire by the fuel pump & fixed up the wires how did you join the wires together?
Why I am asking is because I have some repairs to do on my wiring harness from my vstar 1100.
Thank you
That was a union soldered and the. Marine grade heat shrink over the wire
Thanks to this video I had the courage to do my carb rejetting myself. In this video you check the intake neck and say it is dry.
One of mine tends to have fuel in it. (front filter/rear cylinder). What should I check for the cause? I checked it after starting and idling the bike
The float, float needle, float needle seat oring
Not sure if you are monitoring comments on these vlogs anymore as its years past since posting but here goes….. I have a 2004 1100 that needs a carb re-build (plus fuel filter and possibly fuel valve). If I have not made any adjustments to the carb synchronization screw, would I still need to synchronize after carb cleaning? Bike was running fine before it sat and fuel went bad.
Yes you would need to synchronize. The video shows this simple procedure
Sorry for this 3yearsago post...
But I noticed, that you put the hose #1 to the right carb, backwards. And the hose #2 to the left carb, forward...
As I know, it s marked as the cylinder. The first cylinder is the rear one. So, the intake hose marked "2"goes backwards, to the right carb, to provide air to the 2nd cylinder.
Tried to put hoses as you did, as the experiment, and the airbox couldn't sit well
But it doest mean, your vids about this carbs are not greatest in UA-cam! Thanks a lot!!!!
Its possible those went in backwards, ill have a look. I have to stage and remove things several times for the video, these hoses may have been caught backwards.
I’m working on an 02 vstar 1100. I’ve cleaned the carbs and have them back installed. While trying to prime the fuel system I’m getting some return fuel out of the black tube that runs out of the carb on the right side. Any ideas on this problem.... clog somewhere? Over priming?
No suck thing as overpriming. Sounds like a float needle or seal is not seating or bad and the carb is flooding.
The greatest weakness of these carbs is the O-ring around the brass tube of the float needle valve seat. The rubber on the float needle stays good longer than the O-ring around the seat tube and then the gas leaks from around the tube.
I have a video that specifically tests and addresses this oring failure.
Where can I find your chrome frame covers over the key hole plz and thanks also your content is great helps me alot thank you much. Mn
google.
Thank you sir
hi there. I've been wanting to replace my switch housing. would you happen to know where i might find them or an alternative?
google.
What did you use to check the float levels?
amzn.to/3Jyn98U
Cleaned mine everything is back in bike only cranks atm
Great videos!! I have a question? There is a small black line that I took off when removing the carbs it has a hook shape to it and I can’t figure out where it goes it’s coming from under the seat and is ran along the right side of the bike uptowards the triple tree any ideas??
What do you mean by line?? Like a cable? Electrical, Like Fuel. How could anyone help from that description.
Retro Tech & Electronics sorry It’s gotta be a fuel line it’s only about a 1/4” in diameter and it has a a hook like bend at the end of it...
@@alexshawnamachado8298 There are 2 fuel lines back the the 2 carbs and one fuel line to the gas tank. Theres a 3rd [not a fuel line] coming from the valve cover on the high side for the air box, crank ventalation
Retro Tech & Electronics thank you that must be it and that makes total sense...
Could you please explain why the vacuum plug is clogged? Is this always the case during normal engine operation?
I need information. How are vacuum plugs connected?
In my motor, 1 VAC is blind and 2 VAC is going somewhere, I don't know where?
Vaccume plugs? On the manifold?
@@retrotechandelectronics Yes, carburetor vacuum connections.
@@zygfryd2748 The manifold connections are only used to balance the carbs, capped in normal operation
What's wrong with the bike if the pump clicks every time you start it? Also runs terrible.
The clicking is normal as it primes.
🙂
My 2004 Yamaha vstar 1100 after sitting for wile it’s cranking but won’t start just making sound but no start
Look for the removal video, not the installation video.
hello where is my fuel pump located on my 1999 Yamaha road star silverado 1600cc help
can u tl me where is my fuel pump for my 1999 Yamaha road star silverado 1600cc located
Just follow the fuel line from the tank,.
Where do you get a small fuel tank for testing?
And do you recommend a certain carb syncho
Here is the tank i used
amzn.to/3QzuKHz
and here are the sync gauges
amzn.to/49D2PPq
Thank you, for this and your videos. Been an amazing help.
Where did you get the cables
Wow, that was years ago....
What kind of intake is that?
Maxair
Why line up the "T" mark on the rear and not the front?
Is there a special mark on the carb you are referring to?
@@retrotechandelectronics My Bad Retro. I thought I posted this to your Valve adjustment video. In the valve video you lined up the front cylinders with just the mark/dash (not the "T"), on the rear you lined up the "T" not the mark/dash.
Why 87 I’ve always used premium I accidentally put 87 and was so scared I went straight home drained it and put premium
Its not a high compression engine, anything higher than 87 is of zero benefit, except to lighten your wallet.
Can somebody please tell me why does my Yamaha vstar 1100 spit gas from my exhaust pipes when going to turn it on
Are you sure it’s gas and not water.
It smells like gas
@@whispersramalona7274 it might but if it’s cold start it’s usually condensate. Does it start easy? There is no path for raw gas to go from the tank to the exhaust unless the bike was drowning in gas
What kind of oil does he use?
Motor oil.
$2.45 for gas ⛽
the good ol days 😉
Yup......
So this one is a fuel injected model? Sorry. I just bought one of these bikes today. It’s a 2002. I don’t think it’s the same as this video if yours is EFI.
What about the Carb installation gave you the idea it was fuel injected.
@@retrotechandelectronics I’m sorry, I just got confused when you used the ignition to run out the excess gas. That usually means EFI or so I thought. I am new to these bikes, and just picking it up Friday, so don’t kill me please. lol. I’m watching all your vids to get familiar with what I’m getting into with the one I just bought.
Should have no play, replace the old boots
Rem oil?
its a gun oil from remmington.
@@retrotechandelectronics not a hunter. lol. Put my bike back together rear part engine super hot and front cold. Any quick worda wisdom. Im gonna pull Carbes again. not exactly sure wjat to ajust if runninng lean. back plug was dry white and hot front was wet.
