I found this video in 2020, I got a Roomba Scheduler vac and a Discovery model from Goodwill, neither worked. Discovery only needed a new battery. The Scheduler would only do the circle dance. I followed these tips, took off the bumper, and blasted compressed air all over the inside as there was a lot of dust. Put it back together, dropped in the battery, and works PERFECT now! Thank you so much.

Didn't feel like open my roomba at 10pm, so I just sprayed it with some canned air around the wheels and viola! (as a temporary fix)
    Thank you for the tip!!

+Zack S. 3 month after and the canned air fix won't work anymore.
I did a full dissection today, and cleaned ANY other sensor that I could find: side wall, 4 edge sensors, front wheel, dirt.
Also, in order to open the wheels housing, I actually took them out of their sockets (2 screws per wheel) in order to be able to clean them better. separate the two part, take the motor belt off, and pull the chain wheel outside the center of the wheel. clean those parts VERY VERY well (including the housing)

would be great to see what the optical tachmeters look like. We have an older model but it is doing the same dance. Love it and would love to get it working again!

Worked, thanks for the tutorial. I have the black model, not sure which one but I couldn't get all the way to the optical tachometers, almost. Did a thorough cleaning and it seems OK. Still does a little "circling in place" like a sensor is blocked from time to time.

This was definitely the problem with my roomba discovery. If I had to guess, it probably happens to many different roomba models eventually. I will add that though it is a great idea to take the Roomba mostly apart and clean it when you go to clean the optical sensors in the wheels, taking it mostly apart is not necessary to remove the wheel covers and clean the wheel sensors. Also, there are 2 sensors in each wheel. One on the main piece and one on the cover piece. Be sure to clean both! I made the mistake of only cleaning one and had to redo everything and discovered the second sensors in the wheels. I will also add that a very good li-ion 4400mAh upgrade battery is available for these older roomba models. They run about $70 on Amazon, but we'll worth it. The Roomba will run for about an hour and a half on a charge!

If your iRobot does a circle dance, the problem is usually bad LED sensors located at the front bumper. You will need to unsolder the old ones on the PCB board then clean thoroughly the mounting holes then solder new LED sensors into the holes, there are (3) pairs of sensor, you just have to replace the (3) that emit the light to the other. The dance happens when these sensors fail, letting the robot think that there is an obstruction in the way all the time.

Very good. this is with 100% the problem .But I don't know where to find LIGHT-EMIT L.E.D. ???

    • @tonye.5661
      @tonye.5661 2 роки тому

@@georgelengu7802 Turn the Roomba upside down and look at the front bumper then look in and you will see (3) three compartments, in those are the Light Emit LEDs. If you can't find them then search for video to show you how to locate, remove and replace them. Each Roomba model will be slightly different so lookup the video for your model.

    Love the music.
I took our roomba all apart and blew air on it, but it's still circling.
Our model is different. Perhaps I didn't clean the trochometers. I'll take it apart again and try to figure out where they are.
    Thanks

Got a different robot (roomba ripp off) that exhibits the same issue. The cause is not the tachometer, it is the motor itself. The motor stops in a position where one of its windings is broken (disconnected). The motor can not start up anymore. When you clean the robot, you are bumping the wheel into good position and the robot works again ( or so it appears) until it stops in this "broken position". The motor is broken, you might be able to solder or press the winding connection back on...

Mine is doing this and it is brand new out of the box, So I doubt dust on the sensors is the issue, it sat in storage for years. I had to buy a new battery, because the original wouldn't hold a charge as expected for not being used.

I just clean my robot it had the same problem, what I found was a large amount of dust and hair inside the wheel compartment. the wheel compartment needs to be disassemble to clean out the inside.

@ahanix1988 I liked the music,,But I believe your problem is a data problem(as I'm sure you know)..and the sensor has to be replaced...Does this Roomba seem to rotate in one direction more often than not?...Just wondering..And if so would it not reason that one sensor is telling the processor that something(( is)) that is not..As again you must know!!! so if you could use a varible voltage resistor or the like could you not replace the data and see if (one ) sensor is the main problem?

Have you ever heard of Osmo? Hope for old roombas! Get an osmo, look it up on iRobot, it may be the software needs debugging, and an osmo could install new unbugged software.

I was cleaning mine and lost the small bushings on the wheel and now I have the tachometer failure when doing my roomba diagnostic (9b)
Discovery including tachometer diagnostic tests url mysite.verizon.net/gsplews/Diagnositic-Tests_Proc.v.0.5.htm
read the warnings before doing the tests.

Follow up: I also prayed out the tachometer and entire inside of the wheel with a can of duster and the error is gone. My red 4001 Roomba is functional again.
