Lexus revealed its Luxury SUV, the GX, last year, which is the brand’s mid-size off-road SUV. built on the Toyota's TNGA-F Body-on-frame platform. the same platform found in the Land Cruiser Prado SUV and Toyota Tundra. The Lexus Gx will compete against the Mercedes G-class and the Land Rover Defender. It’s going on sale in Eastern Europe in this year 2024.
In terms of exterior design, the new Lexus GX communicates its focus on off-road capabilities through a distinctly boxy design. The expansive front glass enhances visibility and is complemented by the iconic Lexus Spindle Grille. The LED headlights, configured in an upside-down L shape, not only contribute to a unique aesthetic but also embody the adventurous spirit of the GX. A silver anti-slip guard beneath the engine compartment further enhances durability.
On the sides, the GX emanates strength with its enlarged wheel arches that house 18-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch All-Terrain tires. Matte black plastic trim encompasses the lower part of the vehicle, extending from the wheel arch edges, clearly signaling its off-road prowess. The rear is adorned with a continuous span of LED taillights, completing the cohesive and contemporary design.
In terms of dimensions, The Lexus GX measures 5,005 mm in length, 2,117 mm in width, and depending on the tires provided, 1,915 to 1,935 mm in height, featuring a wheelbase of 3104 mm.
The GX's interior cabin boasts a modern design, aligning with the style seen in the Lexus RX and Lexus LM models. The cabin is versatile, offering both 5- and 7-seat configurations. In the 5-seat variant, the seats can be conveniently folded in a 60:40 ratio. Some sub-models will feature specially designed front seats, prioritizing softness and comfort during off-road journeys.
The interior combines semi-aniline leather and NuLuxe in Black, Dapple Grey, and Saddle Tan colors. Overtrail models offer variations in either Black and Olive or Chateau and Olive.
Emphasizing a square shape in its design, the dashboard is equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. Additionally, a prominent 14-inch touchscreen infotainment display supports wireless connectivity for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The center console of the new Lexus GX is crafted with a spacious connection to the front console, featuring a sizable gear lever handle. Off-road controls are conveniently clustered near the gear lever, encompassing a smartphone charger, Push Start button, and a covered storage compartment. Furthermore, the interior is thoughtfully designed with an abundance of amenities, boasting up to 12 cup holders. The cabin is equipped with up to 6 charging ports and a 120V inverter to power various accessories.
Lexus has shifted from the V8 engine and adopted a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. This configuration delivers a peak power of 349 horsepower and a maximum torque of 650 lb-ft. The GX is equipped with a 4-wheel drive system, offering both 4H and 4L options, and boasts a towing capacity of up to 8,000 pounds (3,629 kg). Additionally, there are plans for a hybrid engine version in the future.
Buyers can choose from 11 exterior colors for the GX, including Eminent White Pearl, Nebula Gray Pearl, Atomic Silver, Incognito, Caviar, Nori Green Pearl, and Nightfall Mica. The Overtrail and Overtrail+ grade trims offer two-tone options with a black roof paired with the body in Atomic Silver, Incognito, Nori Green Pearl, or Earth.
The 2024 GX will come in six trim levels: Premium, Premium+, Luxury, Luxury+, Overtrail, and Overtrail+.
Price-wise, you can expect this car to fetch a bit more than the Toyota Land Cruiser. A starting price of 2024 Lexus GX around £75,000 is likely.
