Glad you guys made this video. Im a lifelong shortboard guy thats getting old and find myself longboarding a lot. While my HP HI4 Ingelby Longboard is very familiar rail to rail. Walking the board is where i need help. The narrow stance and shorter steps is a great tip. Doing that really made it so much easier and I didnt feel off balance as much walking the board!! Keep up the great videos!!! Please more longboard tips !!

Been surfing short boards for 45 years. Started long boarding ten years ago. Cause I use to hate long boarders. Always picking off waves. lol. But old now. It so much fun and seems to me a lot more technical. This is great advice. Thanks guys

More longboarding please. I shortboard more (75% of the time), but I would like to improve on my longboarding as well. Devon Howard has amazing style so that review was great. Joel Tudor, Ben Skinner or Kevin Skvarna would all be good for a break-down video.

I watched Devon win the comp in Bali in the 9 foot and single competition a few years back in overhead waves a short boarder would be very happy with, phenomenal surfer!
All surfers were fantastic to watch live and the girls absolutely ripped! search youtube for '9 foot and single deus' and watch these guys!
A break down of Rasta or Harrison Roach would be great (Harrison surfs every size/type of board well!)

Longboarder. Good stuff with great explanations. Can you speak to the green wave entry from a longboard perspective. Your other video about catching green waves is a favorite of mine. I would like your take on the glide, arch back ( Oreo?), and angle of entry. Thanks again.
Would love to see more longboarding specifically how to do roundhouse cutty on a 9ft board and generally how to “power surf”, lots of spray etc on longerboard and what kind of fin set up best for that kind of longboarding. I’ve only seen this kind of longboarding in Hawaiian surfers and they’re usually bigger guys but they shred hard on big boards and do things I can’t even do on a shorty. so would love to hear clays thoughts if such power surfing on a longboard is generally only reserved for bigger guys. Thanks.

Great video and talking points. I like the suggestion of Harley. May I also ask for a discussion on fin selection as I have a pivot fin and flex fin? I know the difference in terms of what they do, but I am not sure about choosing the fin based on the size of the surf.

Clayton always focuses on rail to rail surfing. What I'm curious about is do does that work with longboards or perhaps 7 ish midlenghts? Do you really have to 'learn' when to become more backfooted to still go from rail to rail?
I'd be really curious seeing Clayton respond to a performance longboarder now, compared to the more traditional.

I guess you guys aren't constrained by the bounds of time...since Devon is at Malibu, how about an analysis of Da Cat? People I know and who surfed around him say he was incredible. Phil Edwards and David Nuuiwa were simply amazing. And of course, Joel Tudor is a student of them all...straight, straight back! Ryan Burch isn't bad either.

I'd really like to know what you think of longboarding compared to shortboarding. I'm a beginner who's getting close to lower intermediate. I have been riding softboards mainly due to the beach being crowded and not wanting to kill anyone with my 7'6 mini mal. I've thought about getting into longboarding because it seems more accessible than shortboarding. Should I really work on the mini mal and move to a shortboard or is it better to do a year of longboarding before I think about that? What's the best way to learn and progress in equal measure?
I would hasten to add that he is surfing the best longboard wave on the planet.

Because they get into waves earlier does that mean the oreo won't work as you're not as the bus stop? Or are we just doing an oreo and an angeled take off?
Very interesting to hear it's easier to cross step going up the face. Would be good to hear more about choosing the right maneuvers and speed generation on longboards. Maybe some coaching of an intermediate longboarder too?
I felt like you could have talked for hours!
I reckon it's easier to Oreo a longboard, due to the length and volume there's more for the wave to catch. You can get a lovely glide in and, as you're up sooner, can then get it on a rail as the wave steepens, or angle it, depending on how quickly you can get to your feet.
