My one criticism is that the rangers weren't at least paired up. Sending someone solo up against enemies known to hunt in packs is just asking to lose personnel to ambushes, sneak attacks, etc. Big fan of Ranger Craig, though, and the reliance on practical effects is admirable.

    • @harmonlanager2670

I bet it’s cause they’re undermanned and need to cover too much area. If your training video starts with “Last chance to back out”, you probs don’t have a lot of recruits

    • @notreallythere477

@@harmonlanager2670 If anything, being understaffed makes it all the more important to protect the staff you *do* have. Sending them in solo isn't the way to do that. I get they want to spread out to find more wayward campers, but like they say, the odds are pretty low, and it's like oxygen masks on a plane. Get yours secured *first* before helping anyone else, because if anything happens to you, then both you *and* the person in need of help are fucked.

    • @harmonlanager2670

@@notreallythere477 I get what you mean but I feel it’s less to do with saving campers and more killing hunters. If you cover less ground quickly, you give a numerically superior foe more time to maneuver around you.
It’s not ideal but, given the situation, it’s understandable enough not to break immersion. I am a bit concerned they’re not armed with rifles or shotguns instead of just handguns.

SO. GOOD. Ranger Craig hooked me right away. I love the contrast between the "stagey" acting, when he's demonstrating how to shout to hikers, and the genuine, terrified courage showing on his face when he confronted the Rabbit Stranger. Great character, terrific actor. More please!! Oh and also the music is deeply unnerving in its folky banality, and you can quote me on that.

Initial thoughts so bare with me:
The realization that strangers are possessed humans is another level of disturbing. Even more terrifying is the fact that the possession makes them more animal-like. It leaves the mind to wonder how in the world that happened to them.
I wonder if a park ranger has ever been possessed. That had to be a whole nother level of twisted.

also a few things; 1:01 has the message about not being able to resign before continuing with the video. really is like a life-or-death situation.
then 7:24, looks almost like the set to the stranger danger video, and the glitchy scene with the strangers gathering looks like they're gonna make a sacrifice to the monster in the woods

    Things i noticed
1:09 “sub ala angeli” translates from latin into “under the wing of an angel”. Note how this text is underneath a picture of a stag with angel wings. I also can’t help but notice that the antlers look suspiciously like hands reaching toward the sky.
1:55 the tree on the left appears to have a black rectangle, indicating a false trail
2:31 a tree on the right also appears to have a black rectangle. Could it be the same tree as the one at 1:55? + the Stranger here doesnt appear to be wearing an animal-based mask. On top of that, the mouth looks like its moving. Either they’re wearing a different mask from the others (possibly symbolizing something?) or they’re not wearing a mask at all. Im leaning toward that first option, as the mouth seems to wide to be a regular human mouth.
2:38 Ranger Craig (I assume that’s whose hand that is) doesnt seem to be actually scrubbing, just moving his hand in circles while holding some soap. + it cuts to an entirely different tree when it is “clean”
3:51 the tree on the left has three rectangles (white, black, and yellow, respectively), again indicating that this is a false trail
4:27 at first i assumed this is a snake. Im still not sure that its not, but it just feels… off? Too flat.
5:35 a white rectangle (i think) on the tree on the left. I wonder if different colors and combos mean different things?
7:24 campsite from the puppet show
8:16 there are cut eyeholes in the mask, meaning that the eyes we see are human eyes (as we have now found out that the Strangers are possessed(?) humans) they seem too wide and are still open, possibly meaning that they are still alive (i know people can die with their eyes open, but there are possibilities). Also note that it took multiple (5? I didn’t count) shots to “subdue” the Stranger (also note that they only say “subdue” never “remove” or even “kill”. Just “subdue” can Strangers even be killed?) meaning that the Strangers’ possession must have also given them an unusual amount of durability (possibly other abilities?)
Rangers Dan and Luke. I can only assume that they’re the same ones from the Christmas video. If so, was this recorded before the Christmas video? Or did Luke never die?
The only double casts are Dan and Luke with the Strangers. Does that mean anything or are they just double casts?
All the people who played puppets in the last video now play Strangers. Were they Strangers all along? Its possible because they’re all based off of children who “went missing” and presumably died in the woods, but what if they didn’t die? What if they got possessed and became Strangers? This could also be what Ranger Luke meant in the last video when he said not to follow Strangers “no mater how nice they may look” meaning Strangers CAN look nice, even though all the imagery we’ve seen of them is horrifying people in creepy animal masks

Fun fact - the map you see in the video at 2:06 is the park map for wells mills county park in Waretown NJ in ocean county. I would recognize those maps from anywhere since I’ve been to its sister park Jake’s Branch many times. (I cannot confirm or deny that there are any owl people there)

This was well thought out and made. Because this is a training video it stands to reason that people would dress up to play the part of Strangers to give the recruits an idea on what they look like, as undoubtedly they could look more terrifying in real life. Also, the typical “new guy” isn’t a bumbling fat fool trying to learn the ropes of the job that you normally see in most training videos of this calibre. He went from the new guy, to typical attentive park ranger, and then finally hunter towards the end. I hope we get to see more videos like this in the future, and I wouldn’t mind seeing a series or even a game that focuses on the day-to-day life of a Grandwood Park Ranger.

  • @cccycling5835
    @cccycling5835 6 місяців тому +6

What’s scarier is that even though this is just a training video and those are not “real” strangers and just other actors ‘pretending’ to be the pretender, they are still creepy. GJ
