On metacritic for ps Days Gone has a 7.1 pro score and a 8.4 user score, for pc it's 76 pro vs 89 user. That disparity (pro vs user NOT ps vs pc) is a glaring reminder that everyone has their own preferences and likes (Days Gone is one of my favorite games all time which doesn't make it a good game for anyone else). Good game reviews focus on objectivity rather than subjectivity, sadly we now live in times where subjectivity has been elevated over objectivity. After hundreds of years "caveat emptor" still applies.

I love ghost of tsushima. I platinumed it on ps4 and ps5 but i really love the way the characters look in the videos i see for rise of the ronin. They look more mature and this looks like a darker game like tenchu. Im looking forward to playing this tomorrow afternoon when i get off work.
I hd faith in Team Ninja. I am playing Wo Long, Nioh 1, and Stranger of Paradise. I heard the negative previews. But I had so much fun with all their other games that I bought Rise like you would leave a tip for your favorite waitress even when she had a bad day. I look forward to forming my own opinion. I am loyal to studios that aren't trying to charge me 25$ for the color blue.

@TheSkruds I agree with you with the exception of Nioh being garbage. Just my personal Opinion. Nioh 2 was even better. Not matching up to Fromsoft doesn't mean you don't make good games. Fromsoft is at the top these days in my opinion and there is a lot of space between the top and bottom.

I’m not talking about all games have to reach that standard but soulslikes and action rpgs have to reach that standard because they are competing in the same category or else it’s absolute garbage. Im in the middle here, i like the gameplay yet i don't like the graphics. Game looks really fun but looks like a cheap Ghost of Tsushima knockoff or even a mobile game at times. I can't decide between this and Stellar Blade yet.
I read the review on ign and they gave it a low score because of loot stacking. Assassin greed 3 had a lot of loot stacking as well. So what’s the difference. More like find something to complain about. The only thing that I worry about in open world games there is no random events and you basically look at the landscape and nothing else.

Finished the review and it was great. One thing you mentioned is how people say A is bad in Game 1 but if Game 2 does A everyone loves it. This shit drives me up a wall and both Ronin and DD2 have gotten this recently. Saw a lot of people saying RotR's open world is Ubisoft. SO IS ELDEN RING'S but without the map markers. There is a template for each new area. Or they said it's a Ghost copy. What? The activities alone dwarf the number in Ghost. RotR looks to have a ton more mechanics and variability you don't get in Ghost. DD2 is getting trashed by players for lack of enemy variety and pointing to Elden Ring as having "tons of unique enemies." NOT IF YOU PLAYED EVERY SOULS GAMES lol. Elden Ring is basically a greatest hits of From Soft enemies from DeS to Dark Souls 3. 99% of the enemies are copy/pasted from those games yet nobody raises a stink. Tired of the double standards in games.
Man you’ve been saying what I’ve said about the flaws about Elden Ring. It’s a greatest hits of Dark Souls,except not a very good Souls game,and not as fun to play either. People have been conditioned to love open world games,even if there’s no fun to be had. This is why when games like ROR come out it has to be bad,because unfortunately most people want story over gameplay. GOT for example is graphically amazing,but it isn’t very fun,and it actually put me to sleep one time. People have forgotten fun and accepted bigger better and graphics/story over gameplay.

First sensible review I've seen of any game in a long time. People these days put way too much stock in pushing the limits of game development. A good game is a good game, it doesn't have to be graphically insane. And no game is perfect. Ghost of Tsushima is one of my favorite games of all time now, and there are still things i would change about it.
Also. You got a subscriber in me. It's nice to have people reviewing games that don't sound like a spoiled gamer that has to justify the 4090 they blew their tax refund on.

Ghost has the better production value in terms of visuals for sure. But I think Rises combat is much more enjoyable. Ghost combat got kinda old halfway through. Rises has so many options keeping the combat fresh
@@KofiPlaysProduction Value was always been a big part of openworld games thats why most people still praise openworld games like Red Dead Redemption 2 despite alot of other openworld out there has a better combat,movement and shooting than Red Dead 2 because how great it looks and the amount of attention to detail putting Rockstar into Red Dead openworld.Its much more enjoyable and immersive to explore the world that is beautiful like Ghost or Red Dead. It doesn’t help that Rise is a 70 dollars game that it looks worst than Ghost plus it got released the same day as Dragons Dogma 2 a probably a much better and bigger games in terms of content.Combat ain’t enough to make people buy a game if thats the case then Forspoken got alot of 9’s and selling great because it has a very good combat
THANK YOU!!! I haven't played a game this UNDERRATED since Days Gone. After 30 hours of slogging and killing thousands of goblins, I quit playing Dragon's Dogma 2 and picked up Rise of the Ronin. Well, the reviewers got it wrong "again" Ronin is 10X more fun!!! Nioh 2 has my favorite combat of any SOULSBORNE and Ronin hits that spot too. I love the open world. I've had a blast and haven't went back to DD2 since. I'm glad to see you giving this game praise!

I agree with the other comments, this is the best impartial informative review I've encountered. You are the only person I've seen who showcased the ignited blade. Traversal seems similar to Assassin's Creed Sydicate (grappling hook)/Horizon Forbidden West (glider), and the combat resembles Ghost of Tsushima, which seems perfect for me. As an aside, your haircut is dope... hope that came across as a compliment as intended, because I'm from Englan, so I'm not really even used to that vernacular:)
Given what you said about the combat, the "one-button" complaint makes it seem like the game just didn't punish them enough for button mashing. If that's true, then making things easier really did ruin experiences.
I really need the great combo showcase for these games, a combat game like this requires it cause expressions in combat is everything like ninja gaiden and DMC 5.

Best game i’ve played so far in 2024. After 20 hours of FF Rebirth i got bored and rushed it to complete. After 20 hours of Persona 3 i got bored and put it away. After 30 hours of Ronin it keeps getting better and better and i am no way near bored

Really good review, touched on a lot of different features and concerns. That horse animation is still a joke though! I’m excited about stances, weapon changes, and ki-pulse esque mechanics, but worried about the open world rpg elements ruining the flow of the game.

Two things that get me to this game: the hook and its possibilities + difficulty level. I tried to enjoy Nioh2, i really tried. Maybe mastering Ronin will get me back to Nioh2. So far, for someone who bought both DD2 and Rise of Ronin, i enjoy both games for what they are. Good review!

very fair review. i'm subscribing. I'm a big fan of both Nioh games so was always a preorder for me. It was frustrating to hear this game get destroyed in reviews but i'm trying to ignore and come to my own conclusions as i play
I enjoyed the game for the most part. However, I disagree with the combat. I didn't think it was satisfying at all. Ghost of Tsushima had really satisfying combat and this fell short. It was the main aspect of the game that I was disappointed by.
I’m going through a few video reviews for this one, before this one I watched one where he didn’t recommend this game but going through the comments people said he enjoyed Suicide Squad so I had to disregard his opinion so it was nice to hear an actual opinion. One of my biggest quirks with PS5 games right now I prefer performance mode but games look blurry as hell like with Final Fantasy 7 & 16. Does this game have the same issue?

Honestly, releasing it on the same day as DD2 just has a lot of people going way out of their way to shit on it to justify buying DD2 over Ronin. All the comparisons in the reviews. Meanwhile, DD2 doesn't constantly get compared to Elden Ring or Skyrim. Especially the Ghost of Tsushima comparisons. Ghost had basic overplayed open world missions, too, and very repetitive combat with horrible enemies variety. This is their first open world, where as Ghost was Sucker Punch's 4th attempt! Sounds like this will be this generation's Days Gone. Then players will cry that AAA gaming sucks, again, if this doesn't get a sequel.
I was comparing DD1 a lot to Skyrim back in the day, and it's actually part of the reason I'm waiting for a sale on DD2. Anytime I played DD1, I was so bored that I wanted to play Skyrim instead. And 2 doesn't look all that much better.
I've noticed that too. Lots of people shitting on Ronin because DD2 is releasing the same day. I'm going with Ronin first and then DD2 towards the end of the year. Too many gamers these days seem to exist to complain, it's like they actively want to be talked out of playing games. It's pathetic. If a game looks fun to me, I will seek it out. Reviews are fun to watch but they don't sway me from playing a game I want to play.
I got it preordered so I’m definitely excited for it. Graphics are never really my concern. The gameplay and the mechanics are what I like to focus on. This appears to have what I like. Plus RPG’s are life.

Elden Rings horse riding animation is hell of a lot better than Rise of the Ronin. That’s why no one was complaining. ER’s animal looks like it’s actually interacting with the floor. Rise of the Ronin looks like it traveling on a floating stick.😂
Can someone tell me how the "game feel" is? Like, coming from a Ghost of Tsushima background, I'm definetly getting Ronin (next week). Ghost has a buttery smooth feel to its movement---just like inFAMOUS Second Son is older sibling. Does Ronin's traversal feel similar? I've played only the first few missions in Nioh---and I instantly felt that Nioh's movement felt like a souls game, of course. Since Ronin comes from the same team, does it's basic movement feel like Nioh? Or is it fluid like Ghost?
I think people wanted Nioh 3 so bad they expected more movesets, more combos, flash attacks, magic attacks, so on.. Team Ninja fans are the ones hating on it the most - that’s weird right?
Finally a review of the ACTUAL game. And not one that unfairly compares it to Nioh or Ghosts of Tsushima. Well done sir. 💯

Im in the middle here, i like the gameplay yet i don't like the graphics. Game looks really fun but looks like a cheap Ghost of Tsushima knockoff or even a mobile game at times. I can't decide between this and Stellar Blade yet.

I read the review on ign and they gave it a low score because of loot stacking. Assassin greed 3 had a lot of loot stacking as well. So what’s the difference. More like find something to complain about. The only thing that I worry about in open world games there is no random events and you basically look at the landscape and nothing else.

Finished the review and it was great. One thing you mentioned is how people say A is bad in Game 1 but if Game 2 does A everyone loves it. This shit drives me up a wall and both Ronin and DD2 have gotten this recently. Saw a lot of people saying RotR's open world is Ubisoft. SO IS ELDEN RING'S but without the map markers. There is a template for each new area. Or they said it's a Ghost copy. What? The activities alone dwarf the number in Ghost. RotR looks to have a ton more mechanics and variability you don't get in Ghost.
DD2 is getting trashed by players for lack of enemy variety and pointing to Elden Ring as having "tons of unique enemies." NOT IF YOU PLAYED EVERY SOULS GAMES lol. Elden Ring is basically a greatest hits of From Soft enemies from DeS to Dark Souls 3. 99% of the enemies are copy/pasted from those games yet nobody raises a stink. Tired of the double standards in games.
Man you’ve been saying what I’ve said about the flaws about Elden Ring. It’s a greatest hits of Dark Souls,except not a very good Souls game,and not as fun to play either. People have been conditioned to love open world games,even if there’s no fun to be had. This is why when games like ROR come out it has to be bad,because unfortunately most people want story over gameplay. GOT for example is graphically amazing,but it isn’t very fun,and it actually put me to sleep one time. People have forgotten fun and accepted bigger better and graphics/story over gameplay.

Name another open world as epic as Elden ring, I’ll wait… the landmarks all around just feel immersive af. and to say Elden ring is Ubisoft without landmarks is just insulting and not true. No idea why ppl defend lazy open worlds and shit on Elden ring. I’m playing rotr right now and I try to like it but it’s very hard since the game looks like it could be 2-3 more years in development.

First sensible review I've seen of any game in a long time.
People these days put way too much stock in pushing the limits of game development. A good game is a good game, it doesn't have to be graphically insane. And no game is perfect. Ghost of Tsushima is one of my favorite games of all time now, and there are still things i would change about it.
Also. You got a subscriber in me. It's nice to have people reviewing games that don't sound like a spoiled gamer that has to justify the 4090 they blew their tax refund on.
I'm not even done with this review and I'm already loving it. This already seems to be most fair review I've seen so far. I used to follow fightingcowboy and the way that he reviewed this game was so biased to the point I had to go so I really appreciate this.

Yeah, I figured there would be a lot of comparisons to Ghost of Tsushima and people would write it off. Looking at the game, I know I’ll enjoy it.
Ghost has the better production value in terms of visuals for sure. But I think Rises combat is much more enjoyable. Ghost combat got kinda old halfway through. Rises has so many options keeping the combat fresh
@@KofiPlaysProduction Value was always been a big part of openworld games thats why most people still praise openworld games like Red Dead Redemption 2 despite alot of other openworld out there has a better combat,movement and shooting than Red Dead 2 because how great it looks and the amount of attention to detail putting Rockstar into Red Dead openworld.Its much more enjoyable and immersive to explore the world that is beautiful like Ghost or Red Dead. It doesn’t help that Rise is a 70 dollars game that it looks worst than Ghost plus it got released the same day as Dragons Dogma 2 a probably a much better and bigger games in terms of content.Combat ain’t enough to make people buy a game if thats the case then Forspoken got alot of 9’s and selling great because it has a very good combat
THANK YOU!!! I haven't played a game this UNDERRATED since Days Gone. After 30 hours of slogging and killing thousands of goblins, I quit playing Dragon's Dogma 2 and picked up Rise of the Ronin. Well, the reviewers got it wrong "again" Ronin is 10X more fun!!! Nioh 2 has my favorite combat of any SOULSBORNE and Ronin hits that spot too. I love the open world. I've had a blast and haven't went back to DD2 since. I'm glad to see you giving this game praise!

After skipping wo long i wasnt sure if I would fit this game as much as I do. But there's JUST enough Nioh/Nioh 2 here for me to feel right at home 😊

Traversal seems similar to Assassin's Creed Sydicate
(grappling hook)/Horizon Forbidden West (glider), and the combat resembles Ghost of Tsushima, which seems perfect for me.
As an aside, your haircut is dope... hope that came across as a compliment as intended, because I'm from Englan, so I'm not really even used to that vernacular:)
Given what you said about the combat, the "one-button" complaint makes it seem like the game just didn't punish them enough for button mashing. If that's true, then making things easier really did ruin experiences.

After 20 hours of FF Rebirth i got bored and rushed it to complete. After 20 hours of Persona 3 i got bored and put it away.
After 30 hours of Ronin it keeps getting better and better and i am no way near bored

Two things that get me to this game: the hook and its possibilities + difficulty level. I tried to enjoy Nioh2, i really tried. Maybe mastering Ronin will get me back to Nioh2. So far, for someone who bought both DD2 and Rise of Ronin, i enjoy both games for what they are. Good review!

What ive liked about it, is how you have to choose a side between the shogunate, and the assassins, which really tears you down the middle sometimes.

I enjoyed the game for the most part. However, I disagree with the combat. I didn't think it was satisfying at all. Ghost of Tsushima had really satisfying combat and this fell short. It was the main aspect of the game that I was disappointed by.

I’m going through a few video reviews for this one, before this one I watched one where he didn’t recommend this game but going through the comments people said he enjoyed Suicide Squad so I had to disregard his opinion so it was nice to hear an actual opinion. One of my biggest quirks with PS5 games right now I prefer performance mode but games look blurry as hell like with Final Fantasy 7 & 16. Does this game have the same issue?
This game doesn’t have that issue. Performance mode is not a blurry mess. Image quality is good. Played the whole game in performance mode.

Honestly, releasing it on the same day as DD2 just has a lot of people going way out of their way to shit on it to justify buying DD2 over Ronin.
All the comparisons in the reviews. Meanwhile, DD2 doesn't constantly get compared to Elden Ring or Skyrim.
Especially the Ghost of Tsushima comparisons. Ghost had basic overplayed open world missions, too, and very repetitive combat with horrible enemies variety. This is their first open world, where as Ghost was Sucker Punch's 4th attempt!
Sounds like this will be this generation's Days Gone. Then players will cry that AAA gaming sucks, again, if this doesn't get a sequel.
I was comparing DD1 a lot to Skyrim back in the day, and it's actually part of the reason I'm waiting for a sale on DD2. Anytime I played DD1, I was so bored that I wanted to play Skyrim instead. And 2 doesn't look all that much better.
I've noticed that too. Lots of people shitting on Ronin because DD2 is releasing the same day. I'm going with Ronin first and then DD2 towards the end of the year. Too many gamers these days seem to exist to complain, it's like they actively want to be talked out of playing games. It's pathetic. If a game looks fun to me, I will seek it out. Reviews are fun to watch but they don't sway me from playing a game I want to play.
I got it preordered so I’m definitely excited for it. Graphics are never really my concern. The gameplay and the mechanics are what I like to focus on. This appears to have what I like. Plus RPG’s are life.

Elden Rings horse riding animation is hell of a lot better than Rise of the Ronin. That’s why no one was complaining. ER’s animal looks like it’s actually interacting with the floor. Rise of the Ronin looks like it traveling on a floating stick.😂

Can someone tell me how the "game feel" is? Like, coming from a Ghost of Tsushima background, I'm definetly getting Ronin (next week). Ghost has a buttery smooth feel to its movement---just like inFAMOUS Second Son is older sibling.
Does Ronin's traversal feel similar? I've played only the first few missions in Nioh---and I instantly felt that Nioh's movement felt like a souls game, of course. Since Ronin comes from the same team, does it's basic movement feel like Nioh? Or is it fluid like Ghost?
I think people wanted Nioh 3 so bad they expected more movesets, more combos, flash attacks, magic attacks, so on.. Team Ninja fans are the ones hating on it the most - that’s weird right?
