I went the DIY route...I have lots of single pigment Schmincke paints that featured in these sets. I made my own mixes 🤭🫣 With 19 colours I can make ALL the super granulating mixes, and change the concentration of each colour as I please. Hats off to Schmincke for kicking off something new in an industry where not that many things are totally new. I prefer my DIY version but can understand if people want the convenience of getting ready made colours. I would also not use all the colours in one painting. I like granulation for texture...but maybe not all over the paper. I really enjoyed your painting!!!

I really like pastel colors so that Shire Green appeals to me but honestly I agree with you on these paints, a lot of them are so washed out, not my style. That Glacier Green is probably my favorite, I love the colors in it
The Glacier Green is definitely in my top 5. I do enjoy different undertones in the colors. Staring at it on the page, the Tundra Violet catches my eye now also. The Daniel Smith Primatek swatch out is coming in a few weeks also. Those are more my speed.

I wonder what would happen if you tried them with a regular brush. When I got my primatek dot set I did a regular swatching with my beloved waterbrush and found some of the colors a bit lacking and I struggled to get good color. Then I did another swatch sheet but instead of regular color squares I painted little pictures of the actual mineral for each one and I decided to use regular brushes as a test. I found it easier to get deeper colors. But some were just a PITA regardless (Looking at you Minnesota Pipestone!) Also letting some water sit on the paint dots of the ones that are notorious for being harder to rewet helped a lot. I even got Lapis to play nicely and get good color!
Thank you for your input Adria! I did leave some water on the dots before I used them and I understand what you are saying about the normal brushes. That is just not how I work. The paints I use work with a water brush or a regular brush or however I want to use them. I may use a different brush to get a different effect but I want my supplies to work the way I work. Does that make any sense? Lol. I can't tell if I'm just talking nonsense half the time. I have seen some great art made with these so I know they are good paints, I just don't think they are for me. I am going to do a fair comparison with Daniel Smith Primateks in the future as well. I love those Primateks but I've run into those stubborn ones as well. Again, thank you for sharing your experience. It's appreciated. 🙂

This was a VERY good rant!! And I’m a -4 in housekeeping, a 100 in lace knitting (I’m making a wedding shawl for my granddaughter), and maybe a 50-55 in painting (not s rank beginner, but not advanced by any means!). So you’ve convinced me to keep doing the 2 things I love, and not worry about the third! -*-giggle*smirk-*- I had a friend in high school who was around 5’5” and he was on the varsity basketball team. Unguarded, he could make a basket from anywhere on the floor, and he could slip through all those tall guys like he was greased, but what he was best at was interceptions and passing off to anyone who was unguarded. He was amazing! So, what I take from your rant is that 1-find something you love to do, and 2- DO IT! Thanks! (I never liked housekeeping, anyway… *snicker* )

The colors are nice by themself... the names were confusing to me, that's all. But then again, I am more of an ink guy so they aren't for me anyway 😅😆.
What in the world is "DaVinci's routine"!?
Inks are much more saturated and vibrant, even the darker colors. Some morons found a journal entry of what Davinci did in a day and they think that's how he lived his whole life. They then supposedly follow that schedule for a month and say how much it improved their life. It's all fake and they are just trying to fool the self-help people into giving them money. Nice people. 😜
