Congrats to Mandy! And kudos to the TWU production team. To be able to provide 30 weeks of content that included Mandy Moore taking time off to, oh, I don't know, GIVE BIRTH... without missing a beat... that takes intelligent planning and dutiful work by all involved on and off mic!!
I love this podcast !!! Recently just re-watched the show during maternity leave (my breastfeeding show, breastfeeding show coined by Sully) and this podcast is the best compliment and now I’m rewatching a 3rd time to follow along, as time allows with 4 kids and work. Anyways thank you for the discussion, support and candor, it’s incredible. It’s Mandy Moore’s laugh for me 🥰. And Sid’s score, makes me cry every time now knowing the background. Cheers from Omaha
HEATHER! If you are reading this just know that your story touched me. I wept so hard hearing you talk about your husband. I am sorry that this show resonated with you thru that but at the same time happy you had this show to lean on. I wish love and happiness upon you and your kids. May Tod rest in peace. ❤️🕊️
Chris Sullivan in this podcast just makes my life! He just SHINES and is ridiculously funny! Thank you all for this podcast and thank you Chris for being you!
Heather - DARLING. I was about ready to walk into work and I had to take an extra 15 minutes to recover. My heart is so full for the strength in your voice - I hope you see this and know you are the epitome of power and resilience. My goodness. Thank you Mandy, Sully, & Sterling for providing this space of comfort and empowerment. LOVE YALL.
The genius of the show is that the writers honor the characters. Things aren't revealed because we want the information now. Information is revealed when the characters are ready to share those details. It's why it took so long to hear the details of Jack's passing. You don't share those hurtful memories to just anyone. You share them with friends and loved ones when you are ready. The whole discussion of Jack keeping secrets is complex. At times he felt he was protecting his loved ones by keeping information to himself. Then he ran out of time and never got to explain why he kept Nicky's story a secret. This is what makes the show work. Decisions aren't made because ratings will be higher if this is added in. You are sharing the Pearson's story as is. Thanks to the incredible This is Us team. You empower and inspire us in our own lives.
never thought to question the Pearson family's need for friends but watching Kate and Madison's friendship blossom was truly a joy. Caitlin's portrayal of Madison was one of the most memorable character development-she brought such depth and vulnerability to a character who was initially overlooked. Her journey was a beautiful reminder of the power of unexpected connections. It would be amazing to see Caitlin and Chrissy return, diving even deeper into their characters and exploring more of the richness of their friendship.
No way!! I love Caitlin so much omg Madison’s my third favorite character on the show right after Rebecca and Randall 😭❤️ (I really wanted her to end up with Kevin because they had such a natural progression and were so refreshing and precious. And Madison’s character development is honestly such a delight to watch. I didn’t expect you guys to give her that much depth or importance on the show because it was the best surprise. Also, the way Madison’s friendship with Beth blossomed during Kate’s second wedding was honestly everything! They were such a great drunk detective duo, and I couldn’t stop laughing at their scenes. And one of my favorite moments during the series is in season 5 when Randall and Beth tell Madison that she’s family because she has no one. It was such a good moment to make her feel included and part of the Pearsons, when she’s always been rejected or treated as a side character or a “lesser” person before because no one ever took her seriously. This was the scene in the hospital, if you guys remember, when she was about to give birth to her and Kevin’s twins. I love how you guys highlighted pregnancies with bulimic characters like Madison, who also had to give birth during Covid times. That was such an important episode that I don’t think a lot of people talk about. Anyway, I’m saying it right now: I might just be the biggest Madison fan out there 🙈) And congrats on baby number 3, Mandy!! You’ve got your very own Big Three now 🥰
@@stephaniecoles2138 yesss I feel the same way!! So glad you agree :) And I’m glad that they ended it that way even if I wanted them to make it because it added more to Madison’s character.
CONGRATS MANDY- Kudos to the team for doubling and maybe tripling up to keep us fed with this raw dose of healing. Chris we love you brother. You not speaking in the fan call really touched me. That one was a doozy
I absolutely love this podcast. I am doing the rewatch myself and came across it. I love all the details and tidbits that this Big 3 reveals. I also love listening to the deeper meanings of the episodes, along with the guests and how they played each character. You all are doing an incredible job keep up the great work!
So nice to see Caitlin Thompson and hear about Madison's point of view. Congratulations to Mandy!! And a big hug to everyone doing this podcast. It's so great to hear you every week 😃😍
i love watching this podcast. I love to hear their insight into the making of each episode. I've watched the whole series 3 times right now and im in season 5 again. I just love everything about the show and the life lessons it teaches. Greatest show i've ever watched!
Congrats to Mandy on completing her very own set of the Big Three!! Truly impressive work from the writers and I like how you guys phrase it that "they get away with it" in this particular case with Madison's development and inclusion in the Pearson family and how Nicky was first introduced to the story. Very excited for what's to come. Thanks for this, as always :D
Hi That Was Us team. Another wonderful episode and I so appreciate the regularity of the programming. I’ve been watching the show and its accompanying episode over the last few weeks and am officially caught up! I hope I can share some feedback, and it hopefully doesn’t come across too negatively. What I really enjoyed about season one of the pod was how much space and time was dedicated to Mandy, Sterling, and Chris sharing their own personal reflections and how the show impacted their personal lives (marriage, child-rearing, family, etc). I even described the pod to my partner as a rewatch podcast that wasn’t even really a typical rewatch pod because it focused less on the play by play of the episodes and just felt like 3 people who happened to also act in it share their reflections. I know all the fans are excited to check in with other fan fav characters and the like so please do not misunderstand, but I feel like these episode recaps that have now another interview and the ESH segments within the same one hour is greatly impacting how much our pod Big Three can share. It’s starting to feel a little too much like play by play and I miss how openly the cast used to share in season one. I would much prefer to have a dedicated episode recap that allowed for that time and for these Zoom interviews to be bonus content or a separate episode on their own. That’s just my opinion but I hope it can be considered ❤ thank you for all the love and care that was poured into this show and now the podcast.
At first I could not stand Madison, but I ended up loving her and Kate's friendship. I was torn at the end when it came to her and Kevin. Because I did love them together. But I loved him with Sophie as well.
Congratulations on your new baby girl Mandy. I love your podcast. You guys are amazing. Loved your show. I sure do miss it but I'm glad we can still see reruns❤❤❤
This episode I was waiting for, I loved the discussion & the interview especially the emotional hotline section. Overall can’t wait for the next one 🙌🏽🙌🏽🤩
I wish the show had explained what caused Stanley to go from a sober, loving husband and father to an abusive alcoholic. When Nicky was born, he was doing well, but that obviously didn't last.
I always felt things just got to be too much. Two kids, probably not making a lot of money. And also the fact that he hadn't cut his Dad out of his life like Jack did. I truly think a big part of why Jack was able to not become like his Dad was that he cut him out of his life, only speaking to him like three times since he found out he was having kids, only once in person and never because he just wanted to be around him. Whereas Stanley had his Dad in his life still after his kids were born. He's mentioned in a later episode (So Long Marianne) as being in the house on Thanksgiving and this is when Jack and Nicky are grown, weeks away from Nicky going to Vietnam. So Stanley had his Dad in his life even as an adult, even as a parent. So he was likely constantly getting reminded of his childhood, then add on the stress of two kids and a job he likely didn't enjoy that wasn't making enough money and so he started drinking and just never stopped and got angry and abusive and awful.
Loved the Hootie references in this episode…I went to the same college as the band so I used to see them at least once a month at our local club back before they hit it big
I Love Chris say HOT TAKE HOT TAKE HOT TAKE🔥 I Love Sterling Very FUNNY😂 I Love Mandy My Favorite Singing Beautiful❤ SILVER LANDING ALBUM I'M FROM MALAYSIA🇲🇾
I'm thinking Jack didn't have a brother in season1, but then was decided for season 2 that he'll have one😅 some scenes in season don't make sense that he would have a brother
Our family mirrors the Pearson sibling dynamic, but in reverse. Randall, in many ways, embodies the traits of the eldest-carrying the weight of responsibility, the quiet strength, being the 'steady' one. Kevin truly fits the role of the golden child-the star of the show with undeniable charm, seem to have it all together on the surface but battles with so many inner conflict
So I always say as much as I love this show and literally watch it on loop I didn’t think I related to anything personally, but alas, I remember my father left me and my brother in the car and went in a bar to drink. SMH. He was no Stanley but who does that??
I might be the only one... but it really saddened me and kind of upset me that Rebecca wouldn't let Jack's dad meet Kate. I totally understand why they didn't have a relationship but he was dying and they were there... just was something my husband and I were not pleased by haha. Though it is realistic to some situations & the man was a POS so I do get it.
Nah, it never bothered me. Jack clearly never wanted his kids meeting his Dad. He clearly didn't really want Rebecca to either, but circumstances made it unavoidable and she was an adult who could make that decision. Kate was a child. Stanley was an abusive man who Jack absolutely hated. I think it actually would've been wrong for Rebecca to allow him to meet Kate without having discussed it with Jack first. Just as it would've been wrong if Rebecca had cut her parents out of her life and Jack let one of the kids meet them without talking to Rebecca first. Plus, all Rebecca really knows about Stanley is that he was abusive. Sure, he was dying and weak, but you never really know what he's gonna say. I wouldn't want to risk him saying something that would hurt her. And Kate didn't really seem all that interested in meeting him anyway. Just my opinion, when someone cuts an abusive parent out of their life, their partner should respect their wishes and not allow their kids around them. I think Rebecca did the right thing there by getting Kate out of there.

🤔 Hmm...
***** SPOILERS FOR FUTURE SEASONS *****
“Kevin is the older brother”…….
EXCEPT….
Randall is older, he’s actually a day older than Kevin and Kate………
I was wondering if they were truly born on the same day, I couldn't remember that was obvious in that first episode or 2
Our family mirrors the Pearson sibling dynamic, but in reverse.
As far as Kevin easily lying to Sophie, it was part of the addiction.

My mom is from a generation where children were kept from death/dying. Could be it came from a place of shielding her from that
I think she was probably protecting Kate

Since you asked, my father died this year. Technically.
