Moors, which was just a name for Spanish and north African Muslims, were a mixed bunch, mainly comprising of native Spanish, Berber and Arab ethnicity.
Majority of the black people that were transported to the USA as slaves did not come from that area, they were mainly from West Africa, from regions like Mali and so on.

The same meaning is used until today in Portuguese and Spanish society. "We expelled the moors" is the overall general theme of Portuguese and Spanish history class.
