Hi from South Africa, just made this recipe, I added a little lemon peel, IT WAS MAIZING.
Baked the cookies today. I almost doubled the amount of chocolate chips and added walnuts. I got 45 3” cookies!! So yummy!!

I had been looking for the perfect sourdough discard chocolate chip cookie recipe and after trying your recipe stopped looking. This has been my to go to recipe ever since it was posted. It is so versatile and I have been using different kind of add ins from cranberries to peanut butter chips, they always come out so delicious and everyone I share them with tells me how good they are. The only thing I had to change is baking them for 15 minutes, since they aren't done at 10 minutes. I could probably try and set the temperature to 375°F and that may also make them more crispy, but I actually prefer them on the softer, almost cake like side. Thank you for this awesome recipe!

So good! And such a pleasure to cook. This is the first time I've made cookies using grams; seems so much easier and no measuring tools to clean up :)
Will have to adjust baking for my oven; at 350 they just aren't done at 8 or even 10 min. I think I try 375 next time. I don't have a fan assist/convection oven.

Starter : Flour : Water. Measured by weight.
So 1 : 50 : 50 can be 1g starter, 50 grams flour, 50 grams water or 2g Starter, 100 grams flour, 100 grams water.
Does it make sense? 😊

I was so frustrated about my sourdough discard and also I was looking for a some cookie recipe. I'm gonna give it a try next week and tell you how it was. Thanks for the video.
What I found works also really well, just Pour your discard in a Pan, sprinkle in some seeds and such and bake it like a pita or a big pancake. If you feed the starter in the morning, you have an amazing sweet sour crunchy healthy breakfast

@@jvallas im frying the discard in a pan (same temp as for pancakes). Bread I usually bake at a preheated oven 250C

Hi Sunne, for 200g of sourdough starter, do I need to feed 2g of starter with 100g of water en 100g of flour. Did I understand correctly?

Love your videos. I'm making the cookies tomorrow- please can you clarify for me, is Baking Soda A] plain bicarbonate of soda, or is it B] 'Baking Powder" which in Australia is a mix of bi-carb soda and Cream of Tartar(Potassium bitartrate, also known as potassium hydrogen tartrate)

Can these be made with sourdough starter only vs baking powder ?
My main weakness..
I can't eat sugar so I will try to substitute some kief and instead of chocolate chips I guess little bits of hash will work
They won't come out remotely the same without sugar in the dough 😂 I don't mean just not being sweet- they just won't bake the same or get nearly as much of that delicious Maillard browning on the bottoms and edges
@@andrewstorer4875 I have some King Arthur sugar alternative for baking (haven’t experimented with it much yet). I wonder if it would provide the properties needed. I’ll bet it would come close.
If it requires feeding up (especially at such a huge ratio) does it not defeat the point of it being a discard recipe?
It's just if you have an overly sour starter. My starter isn't generally very sour 😊
I feel you would have used all that flour for a regular (non-sourdough) batch anyway, and this still eliminates the need to throw anything out.
Title says “discard”. . .but I think your words starting at min: 0.55 translate to “use fresh starter. Can anyone clarify?
Well, if your discard isn't very sour it's fine to use, so you can use discard, but a feeding will usually elliminate any sour in the starter. Also, I don't really have discard 🤣
