- This evening I rented a towable Man Lift from a local rental yard to do some tree trimming around the house. We go over the operation of the unit in this video as I set it up and trim trees with my Stihl Pole Saw and Stihl GTA 26.

Very handy. Have rented one many times. When we rent one for a full day we try to rent it Saturday afternoon so we don’t have to have it back till Monday morning. Have a good day Morgan’s!👍🏻
Rented one a couple of weeks ago to hang steel on my building, 23 ' up!My wife and I were in it together, she got pretty good at running it too! Best money I ever spent!
I bought one (actually the exact unit Mike rented) of these since I paint houses for a living and I'm telling you it's a force multiplier! I haven't eliminated ladders totally, you never will, but it is easier on the body and much safer than a 40'er!
What you showed today is great. Sorry to say but I just don't have the room to store a lot of stuff so in the past I've even rented a tiller to go on the BX. It was not the one I would have bought but for a rental it did the job.
These lifts are definitely a game changer.Several years ago I was talking to my neighbor about how I was really having second thoughts about having to get up on the extension ladder and changing a dusk to dawn light that I had put up thirty five years ago,, and without hesitation he said that he had just purchased a bucket truck, and that I was welcome to use it any time. Since then I have used it
many, many times from installing gutter covers, trimming tall trees, changing multiple dusk to dawn lights and repairing a damaged metal roof. I guess all of those years of supplying him wood for his smoker and outside fire ring and tending to all of their farm animals whenever they are away, paid many dividends.
Lifts are a truly a gift. I deal with a metal roof and not much solid lip surrounded by a lot of uneven ground so the extension ladders are a nightmare when it comes to doing high work. Actually had a gentleman doing an install on our roof and misjudged the stability of his ladder, if I hadn't caught it and body braced his ladder he would have been looking at a long 40' drop. Nothing beats a stabilized hoist.
Alright Huntman you stud. That hand in the cookie jar grin makes every day a great one.
They make retractable shades for skylights. Kinda like the ones in a car or truck. We had one long time ago but the skylight was replaced with wood when the roof was replaced . Sorry Hunter i forgot about your birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Im glad your enjoying the filming Hope your having fun. Tell your Dad you want BK
Very informative, thanks may consider the man lift in future if needed. Not very complicated. Have a great day Hunter, LOVE your smile, it's infectious, and always makes me smile too!
Recently rented the same brand man-lift, with a longer reach, to trim branches from a very large hackberry before taking it down. Very effective machine. A little surprised you weren't wearing a safety harness, tied-off to the basket while elevated. We did, no limitations but certainly felt a little safer.
Mike Cattelino don’t ever hook it up to the basket. Run your harness rope over(not through it) and hook it to the end of boom if u get it hung up in tree or on something and it breaks something the basket will dangle flipping u out
@@randywilson6869 for sure, we did just that. Thanks for sharing that safety tip.
Good morning from NW Ohio! Happy 4th. We all need to be appreciative of the freedoms that we enjoy, and many times, take for granted. Love the lift video. The last time I ran one, it went out of level when I was maxed out up in the crotch of a huge oak, and I had to hand pump it all the way down so I could re-level. Great times!
Older post but I just rented one to rebuild my chimney - awesome tool, made things so much more efficient - highly recommended and much safer than ladders or scaffold.
Renting the RIGHT piece of equipment helps SOOOOOO much! Saves a lot of time, is safer, you usually can do a better job and then you can move on to other things too. Hi Hunter! Happy belated birthday!
Have to say, you have one of the best playlists of all UA-cam, let alone any music service. Thanks for all the great vids (and tunes)!
It is recommended to not prune oak trees in the active growing season because there is a high chance of introducing oak wilt through the open cut. It is recommended to do the trimming in the winter months when the trees are dormant. FYI.
I bet you don’t have any videos of you doing anything to a tree.
says the person who's never trimmed anything
@@chizzelfingers Oak trees are susceptible to a dangerous fungal disease called oak wilt. Even though oaks are strong and mighty, this fungus can take down even the most robust tree. It most commonly occurs whenever someone prunes a tree during the wrong time of year, also known as summertime.
Tiny sap beetles spread oak wilt from tree to tree, and they are the most active from April to August. These unwelcome visitors seek out oaks with fresh prune cuts, where they leave behind this fast-spreading fungus. Unfortunately, oak wilt is often fatal.
@@blackericdeniceWhy you leave this same comment everywhere???
Good morning MIke and Melissa. Thanks for this one. I’ll be renting one shortly to clean gutters, clean windows, trim tees, finish up some painting. Happy Birthday Hunter!
Love love love skylights; the extra daylight outweighs any problems. Same with sunroof's.
Perfect timing. I have to rent one in a few weeks to trim back some trees as well. I’ve only used a scissor lift in the past but not that kind. Thanks for the tutorial!
I been watching these videos for a long time and really enjoy them keep up the good work , I'm retired now 30 years oil field been retired in 98 and hatting it I can't get around good anymore that's one thing about your videos
I like about never sitting still keep on keeping on. Jimmy Laurel Ms.
I was surprised to see that the lift was battery operated; I was expecting to hear a small Honda engine start up. I believe that battery is better. It was a very nice demonstration. I loved today's music. You always have a good taste in music. Happy 4.
What a great idea! I need to check with my local rental company and see what they have available. Ladders scare me since I broke my back. This looks like a far better solution. Another lesson from the Morgan’s 🙂
Home Depot's rent these, too.
I rented a 60 boom lift last Friday, trimmed back three 75ft Siberian Elm trees, plus took down two 5ft in diameter Willow trees that had become dangerous, still in the huge mess cleanup, but I will get it.
I love running lifts, ran a ton of different ones over the years in the contract painting field .
Love watching your videos. Retired 4-1-20 from NCSHP thank the lord i made it. I got a new tractor got a new log splitter and bought me a small truck. Looking to move to the mountains somewhere. God bless you all.
Thanks for the video. I may have use for a lift.
Hunter you look so happy good for you y'all have a blessed evening
Love watching your videos. We are from Fort Recovery, Ohio. If you ever get a chance come to Fort Recovery, Ohio and see the old Fort still standing: from the 1800’s. There is also a small museum.
A local tree service company has a model you don't climb. It has a chain saw and grabber arm on top and you stay on the ground with a remote control in your hand. I'll call them and see how much they charge, then probably rent a unit like you just used. But, the tree company version has four wheel drive and a bit of a terrain crawling capability.
🤔 Melissa Morgan you could have turned the key to control it from the ground only
And leave him up their till you got your pool🤣🤣🤣🤣
That would make things worse for Melissa. That lady is dedicated to Motor Mike.
Dang i wish I would have thought of that 😂

Good morning from southeast Wisconsin. Hunter Morgan you've got the greatest smile going, you're the best. Show your dad how to smile sometime...LOL.
I may look into renting one later this fall as I have a huge maple tree hanging over the front of my house. It was good to see the ever smiling Hunter and nice to hear he had a great birthday. Stay safe guys.
Great video, thanks for showing the operation. Seems pretty straight forward and seems very doable. Beats a ladder any day.
I will definitely have to rent one. I got quit a lot out by my pole barn that need trimmed up. Thank you for showing the controls.
Thanks - that was very useful since I've been considering renting one of those tow behind lifts to trim several large pin oaks in my yard (mostly to clean out some of the dead branches). Probably use my tractor to move the lift around in the yard since it spreads the weight out and would handle driving in the yard better than my truck.
I put louvered shutters inside my roof skylights to cut back on the summer heat-nothing fancy, just open/close them with a wooden pole-had them made slightly undersized in the vertical dimension and put 1x3 strips on the top and bottom of the inside of the skylight-that way I can remove the shutters for cleaning/maintenance
I only found out that this kinda lift a few weeks ago. Never even saw one! But used scissor and telescoping boom lifts professionally for decades prior. My brother needed an economical shelter to store his 35’ tow-behind in during the off season. A hangar tent was the solution. We tried renting step ladders to reach up to the 16’ peak, but it was too slow, too clumsy, too risky. Then we saw a local Home Depot rented this contraption. Hitch it up to your pickup and go! Almost perfect solution for wrangling steel tubes quickly up at height! All electric, used for two solid days in freezing temperatures and the battery pack didn’t flinch.
I agree. In the mountains we had 3 3x3 squares in the main room of our A frame. They pointed south. Great only with fog. Never leaked but the heat sun load - bleaching and such.
It is really helpful when you let us know what things cost. Thanks.
Great video, if I could recommend one thing, please put a safety harness on just in case safety first.
thanks for that bit of caution osha.
it would be pretty hard to fall out of that basket unless you are really stupid in which case you should not be doing this in the first place.
this guy is perfectly safe and shows he is not some idiot that does not need to be doing this sort of thing.
Not really. Boom lifts are big catapults. They can flex and spring back
Paul K, Frank is correct…I use them every day and they are very dangerous. What do you think would happen if there was a accident and the insurance company came out the first question was asked were you wearing a harness? Good luck covering all your bills. Now we have to use a retractable with a harness not allowed to use a lanyard anymore.
Thanks for sharing Hunter with us. It neat to watch him interact and be part of the Outdoor with the Morgan’s channel.
MIKE, I wanna think 'Chipper Chick' was having withdrawals and put you up to the task. Good stuff, with the right equipment, jobs done safely, and even on a hot day, didn't break a sweat!
Motor Mike you are not going to like what I say, but here in Wisconsin our foresters say to trim red oak in winter or early spring to prevent disease.
They also say you should drive with both hands on the wheel.
F165, what are you smoking! Haha!
I rented one of those towable lifts a year or so ago to take down 3 trees. It was awesome to use. That little pruning saw would have made my job a lot easier. I used an 011 which got heavy after a while. Another great video! Thanks guys!
I built an earth contact home in 1991 and I have 3 Velux Skylites on the back of my house about as tall as yours but wider and about 6 feet apart and that is likely where you are losing HVAC. Rafters too close together and little insulation in between. Those lites should have argon gas and yours look like Velux too. I design doors and windows along with custom millwork for a living. I have a bank of Andersen 400 series windows on the front of my house and it is always cold. It's not the windows, there is just not enough space between to insulate like they can today. If anyone else is experiencing the same thing it is probably the insulation. Get one of those thermal guns at your box store and point it at the glass then between the windows, I think you will be surprised. The products I mentioned are high quality. You would have to get in to a Peach Tree product to do much better and a house full of them would make your truck seem like pocket change! lol
Good morning from Yukon. Have a fantastic weekend. Happy Belated Birthday Hunter.
Roy From Bend, Oregon. I rented one of those when I trimmed one of my Ponderosa's.
Here in Bend, being a 'Tree City' we have to get a permit to cut down old, tall, or large diameter trees. Big fine if you do it without one. Mine was a 'leaner,' leaning more each year. To get a permit, I would have to apply, the city would have to come out and measure the lean, then do the same thing 6 months later. IF (a big if) the lean had increased then, and only then, would I be allowed to bring it down. But being a 'leaner', the city would require me to hire the work out. $3,000 plus permit $100, plus site visits 2 X $50.
There is NO requirements for any permit if you 'trim' the tree. It is now a tooth pick, with one branch near the top. Problem solved.
If the neighbors complain (NO HOA in this area), I just have to drill a whole in it, and it is a 'nesting' tree. This will make it a Federally Protected tree. Solution for any future problems.
Shows to go you when a local Government gets out of control!
Bet everyone in town wears a mask too!
Also in our area, for safety reasons, if it is towable by a 1/2 ton, they require a 3/4 ton. From what I understand, a lot of people have complained to the rental yards that 'they ruined their vehicle by towing with a vehicle the rental yard said was good to use.' Cuts down on the amount they make renting, but now almost no complaints, or threats to sue....
A short pole pruner have expedited clipping off those thin wispys and repositioning. Fiskars makes a great 1 called Ez reach stik pruner at Home Depot. You can angle the head too.
Perfect timing! Was planning on renting one of these to help take down a tree.
Well worth it. We used one to take care of several trees near our cabin.
Very much worth the $.
If I was doing that job here in Florida, the first thing I would put in as an essential tool would be a tested, full can of wasp and hornet spray!!
No good saying “ oh, yeah” when you are 25 feet in the air!
Hi Morgan's, pups and especially Hunter! 💙
Pretty slick machine.
I had 7 skylights in my last house and no problems. I did have double cell shades for the 4 in the heated area (the other 3 were on the enclosed porch and the garage). Now you can get solar powered rain sensing skylights so they can be opened on days that will be hot but there may be a T storm before you get home from work.
Mike I’ve been watching your videos for years and many other channels and never have I commented about safety, this time I will. I use these basket lifts almost everyday and using a harness is lifesaving plus if there was a accident or the machine failed your insurance company will not cover any damage or health if you are not wearing a harness.
I have considered renting a lift but was a little intimidated. Maybe now I will give it a try.
Hunter , HAPPY BIRTHDAY, sorry I am a little late.
So glad to hear Hunter loved the birthday wishes. 😊😊😊💝💝💞🇺🇸🎂🎂🍨🍨
Excellent. This is exactly what I plan on doing with the same machine and a large maple tree.
Good morning Guys that was a cool video thanks for sharing 👍
I discovered how wonderful these towable lifts are a few months ago too. I pretty much never plan to use a ladder beyond the first floor outside the house ever again.
That man lift sure was the safest way to do the job. My son and I rented one to install a stainless steel chimney on his two story house and it worked great except the controls on the man lift worked but all the decals indicating what was what was so faded they could not be read so I had to operate it from the ground as a rank amateur. It got hairy a few times but we got the job done without incident.
Mike I have to agree on the skylights we built our house in 2000 we had put in 2 skylights in, and her Grandfather told us if you cut a hole in the roof you will always have a hole in the roof. Needless to say when we have to put a new roof on we will be taking those out.
You need to invest in gutter guard on your Eve troughs to keep the leaves out . Makes life a lot easier, don't have get the ladder out to clean eve troughs an dump spouts .👍😁
Yep, been debating renting one of those for a couple big pin oaks I have to trim. That made up my mind, so easy! That’s for the informative video 👍🏻
Yep just about everyone I know that put or have skylights in there house say the same thing. Problems. Nice job on showcasing the man lift!
There are two types of skylights : those that leak, and those that will leak.
I can say the same thing about dormers. Worst decision ever !
Another tip for the man lift, always do a pre-flight and inspection for cracks in the frame, the basket and look for hydraulic leaks. I’m sure they do this at the place of rental but remember it’s a rental and everyone that rents the equipment doesn’t take care of the equipment the same.
charles from near kansas city. i have rented these multiple times. sometimes for a week at a time. this one is close to the one i rented but i dont remember it having tires on the jack part. the time i renter it for a week i painted a apt building i used to have. one problem i had with one once was the controls would not work because i was not on level enough ground
I never knew there was cordless man lifts I have only seen the noisy diesel kind. I put leaf filter on my gutters a year ago they are expensive but they do work no need to clean the gutters anymore. Well Hunter I am glad to see that you have had a great birthday and your welcome. Looking forward to the fireworks that your going to have here in Virginia the governor is worthless and won't allow them to may chances of infection but that is another conversation. I hope a safe and Happy Fourth of July to everybody. Thank you for sharing your video with us. Ed
Got one house side of those gutter protectors but heck they grow moss quickly !
I liked this one of you demoing the man lift. I think this fall I'll go out and rent one and do some pruning - maybe even defer the cost spread out over some of my neighbors.
Great video Mike!! I learned alot today. And TY
u gotta love that lift! I use my Kubota L3200 tractor with forks, put a sheet of plywood on them and lift my neighbor up with the chainsaw and or pole saw. U got a great helper!! 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Mike that is the way to Go using the man lift it is much much Safer than on an extension ladder or on the Roof!!👍👊
Happy Birthday Hunter, May God Bless You
Hi you couldn’t have timed this video any better I will cutting our red oak limbs away from the roof valley and cleaning the pine needles off the roof. Thank you
God Bless Y’all! Have a day!❤️👍
Good morning from MidMo. Thanks for the demonstration. One of my engineers got one of those, and in the politically correct terminology required of the federal government, it was called a boom lift. Good thing too, because his newly hired technician is a woman. 😋 But they are out at our remote site, and I haven’t actually seen it operate. He has to work along an irrigation machine, so 10-15’ high, but also 20-30’ sideways. Anyway, now I’ve seen how to use these. Good info, and thanks. Funny thing in the video - the camera on the trailer couldn’t see Melissa, so the limbs appeared to be walking to the trailer by themselves. Especially in fast mode. Tell me you thought that up when you set up! 😄 I’m sure you thought it was great fun when you were editing. Looking forward to the fireworks tomorrow. Great seeing Hunter helping Melissa say thanks for the birthday comments.
Great video Mike. The smile on Hunter’s face was priceless.
My apologies for not wishing you a happy birthday on the day Hunter, but here is a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY now, cheers from Australia, keep that big smile beaming.
Good afternoon. I laughed, as Hunter is saying, we've got to finish the job and get rid of the limbs.
Atta boy Hunter, supervisors job is never done. Belated Happy Birthday.
Hi girls. Be safe everybody.
Thanks for this episode. Reminds us that we can get a lot of work done if we have the right tools and that renting the tools is often the smart way to go.
Loved seeing Hunter! He looks so happy! Mike, you gave me a little tree stand anxiety there, lol. I'm good with heights, but I'm afraid I would have worn a harness. That wide angle makes it look higher than you actually were, lol. Good video, thanks for the manlift tutorial.
The man lift is money well spent. Done the ladder thing even climbed the tree. God bless
Thanks, Mike. This is on my list for next week, so I appreciate the quick tutorial!
Thanks for showing how to use the man lift. No one that i know has shown before.
The right tool for the job, lift units have come a long way as I would guess, just never thought about it. Gone are the days of manual out riggers and noisy power. Thanks Mike, hi Melissa, happy birthday Hunter. And hi to pizza delivery gal
Central California watching
Morning Morgan's. No internet here today???? Going to go visit another youtuber today@ taryl fixes all. Tell the family hello. Hope to have internet this evening. Be safe and have a day!
In our area, we don't cut oak until after frost - oak wilt.
Mike, I don’t know how old those skylights are but if they’re 10-20 years old you could probably get some new ones that have a much better thermal rating. Window and glass technology has come along way lately with energy conservation. Pop the old ones off and put the new ones on... simple. Just a thought.
Thanks again for the Great Fourth!
I walked around looking for our Fireworks and the the Dang trees grew and covered the spots😝
I caught a few high one's came home to your live 😘
JO JO IN VT 💕 😄🇺🇸
Mike - Great video. I now know about a man-lift. Have seen them from afar, but never up close, and never in operation. Great idea to use it to clean up those branches hanging over the house. Thanks, and blessings to you and your family. Hi to Mr. Hunter, and a belated Happy Birthday!!
Good morning to the Morgan’s! Glad you had a great Birthday Hunter, now help me celebrate my birthday today, I made it to 75 today 👍👍. Tomorrow night we can both celebrate our birthdays again on INDEPENDENCE DAY!!! Sure did enjoy watching you get the tree trimmed and gutters cleaned out. Definitely worth the price for the safety of renting the man-lift. Thanks for sharing with us today and really looking forward to seeing the fireworks tomorrow night. Fred.
Great video. The price seems very reasonable rate in my opinion.
Yea, I need one badly!
I have limbs I simply can’t reach with the pole saw that need to go, & being 20 feet up on an extension ladder, is not to comforting, knowing that one fall from that height would really ruin my day!
Rented same kind of machine to cleanup some trees around my parents house, so worth the money!
What a life! All the "Big Boy Toys" a guy could dream of, and a Beautiful Lady to enjoy them with.
Hunter has a smile that lights up the room. God bless
Awesome beats a ladder. Looking forward to the 4th
If it was me I’d invest in gutter guard. I put them on my house and sheds and never looked back. The best money I ever spent!
Is that how buckin would of did it. Glad to hear hunter had a great birthday. Hope the weather is nice tomorrow for the fireworks. Have a good day.
I did not get a chance to watch this video until just now, much later than my usual time. Seeing Hunters smile made it worth the wait! 🤗🤗🤗
Melissa, you are creating a whole new outdoor workwear style!!! Fashion forward!!!! 👍👏🤩
Thanks for the introduction on the lift . I hear you about skylights. Wish I had never put them in. Seemed nice at the time. Happy Fourth to the Morgans !
its so nice its all hydraulic I remember renting one that I had to wind the the legd out out I was knackered after cleaning that building down withit trying to keep it level other wise it wouldn't operate
Good morning all, Phil from Kansas City here. No Stihl store today, heading to my tree farm in Stover, MO. Looking forward to Mike’s fireworks on Saturday. Have a Day.
Enjoyed your Video.I now have the confidence to rent one.Thanks.
Mike yes it was very helpful
