RVK Newscast #81: Earthquakes Up To 20,000 & The Comeback Nobody Asked For
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 бер 2021
- We are now at close to 20,000 earthquakes-or even more-but there are still no volcanic eruptions. Scientists are pretty sure that there is a serious threat going on, though. We look at the complex situation arising from there being five volcanic systems in the area, and why it’s wrong to say that there is a volcano in Krýsuvík.
Finally, the comeback nobody asked for; COVID-19 is back with a vengeance. And it means business, possibly threatening the fourth wave. But there is also the possibility that neither of these things will happen-the fourth wave, or a volcano. What a time to be alive, right?

I wish all news was delivered like this.
The world needs more proper journalist around the globe, not just annoying youtube channels that forward the same information from other youtube channels, copycats
They usually can't even get original footage and bring up old videos to fool viewers
Just to be clear, i loved this coverage
The camera person is legit, props to that person.
@Hyacinth Moczygemba
Stop your nonsense. Some friend you are. Hmmm
I love your determination in delivering your Newscast entirely whilst walking up and around this hilltop. Your beautiful dog must love it each time you're ready to film. Take care and time will tell. Love from Australia.🇦🇺
Be kind and be safe, a motto to live by.
Thank you for your wonderful personal perspective. You have given us a clear idea of the area and where it lies in relation to towns. Iceland is so beautiful. Greetings from Australia.
Fingers are crossed for Iceland all over the world, please stay safe.
Props to the doggo for carrying the tennis ball around the whole video, and can we get a shot of the trained mountain goat you use to hold the Steadicam for you?
Our cameraman, Art, is actually incredibly camera shy. And he does realise the irony in that. Also, I wasn't paying attention, but i think he was hovering around like a relaxed superhero.
@@TheReykjavikGrapevine, We appreciate him.
That walking around the hills around the city while pointing out the volcanic possibilities is such good instruction. I’m very impressed.
Bless all in stressful situations worrying about survival.
i'm addicted to this channel now.
Got to see this clip by accident and i have a smile in my face. Have been following the seismic news and your explanations added a lot of context. Thanks a lot. I am sure you had fun walking around anyway but i did enjoy watching and listening.
We love you guys, sending all the best from San Diego, California!! Be safe.
Thank you for the updates. I had the privilege of visiting Iceland and hope to visit Iceland soon. I hope the best for Iceland and its’ citizens.
Your videos and explanations, in my opinion, are the MOST interesting and informative on UA-cam. Your energy together with your enthusiasm is also palpable. Thank you very much for your work.
Hello Valur! I am in 🇨🇦. I have been watching your videos every day recently. I find them to be excellent, entertaining, in beautiful places and with Polly making it very special. The word that you were looking for is "handrail". Please keep making these videos often. We all love to see any places in Iceland, people interviews, animals, nature, and yes, volcanoes, lava and the sea. Take care!
Haha, yeah, i always finding myself forgetting, or not knowing the words of these mundane stuff. Thanks for that.
Thank you for keeping us all up to date, it's been hard being locked down for over two months in the UK, but at least the ground is still beneath my feet (Last earthquake in my home town was a 4.6 in 1884!). You really are giving geology a human edge, it's both awe inspiring and frightening.
Thank you for updates & info, keep up the good work! Also prayers for health, safety & well being, God bless you all!
Best explanation that I have seen to date -with great visuals. Thank you!
These videos have been keeping me sane while working from home and they make me miss Iceland even more (in a good way)! Thanks for making them, keep up the great work and good luck with the vulcanos and the covid.
Probs to the videographer, well-done audio and the tour beautiful and very informative!
HEAR THAT WORLD? "Just be KIND and be safe!"
This is the type of news that I like
I feel so sorry for all the news network people who have to try to pronounce all these icelandic names.
Well he is Icelandic so, he isn’t having a stroke. But the same cannot be said for others
You just have to do a little homework and learn how some of the different letters are pronounced. The vowels are all pure and the umlauts are similar to German. I actually find Fagradasfjall much easier to pronounce than the last mountain that erupted, the one they eventually referred to as E15 because it had 15 letters you could NOT pronounce. Ha ha ha ha - by the way, a double L in Icelandic is pronounced TL. It is not a sound we have in English but it appears in Aztec. (!). And that is your linguistic trivia lesson for today.
Well, they should learn something new and listen how it sounds. English is not the only language in the world .
On the plus side, at least there are no Algerian pirates raiding the coast for slaves . ( I’ve been reading Icelandic history). Please stay safe. I appreciate the effort you put into your news casts. By the way, the word you were looking for was “railing” or “banister”. That’s the hand-hold used when climbing stairs. Thanks again
Or a BALUSTRADE if you'd like to really impress someone.
The correct term is Berber pirates
@Cliff Hall Hahahahaha - stop it.
Keeping your country in prayer🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
We’re not done , more bad news 😉all the best, stay safe - great video
You always keep us updated. I love iceland, so whenever i need updates i simply tune into this channel. 👍💖😍
You can see the problem we have here in the UK with these people who think Covid does not exist. I hope the earth settles down for you take care.
Stay safe. Least none of these 🌋. Hope the flows stay far from dwellings.
Love from California we have volcanos and earthquakes too!
Hope all our friends in Iceland will be okay. Thank you for the great reporting Grapevine.
Praying for the beautiful people of Iceland!
Can you climb a mountain and tell a story at the same time without panting? Impressive....
I would have tripped and fell over those large stones about a thousand time, broke something and ended the video at the 2 minute mark.
I can barely walk from my bedroom to the kitchen without panting there's lots of panting LOL
Literally a good walkthrough of the situation. Let's hope for the "tourist" eruption that harms nobody.
All the best and good luck to all of you in Iceland🌟 Let's hope for the best! You have a nice and entertaining way of telling even concerning news. Great to see your country. Warm greetings from Canada💜
I guess many Icelanders benefit your channel also. You make complex matter very understandable.
THIS CHANNEL IS THE BEST. ...
Watching you walk up and along that Slope..Was like ,watching a Joy Division, Music Video... or The Smirhs....... The Cure....
Beat Geology, Local History, Guide EVER ..
carry on...
Beat Thoughts to you and yours Nears and Dears 🤗🤗🤗😊😊🙏😊🤗🤗❤🌏
The Reykjanes peninsula is my favorite place in Iceland. I can´t wait to come back! My biggest regret though, was not buying a sweater... So, when I came home, I learned how to make one myself. There is about two months out of the year I can wear it. Icelandic wool will save you from the next ice age! Winter temperatures in my area of California are the same as summer temperatures in the Reykjanes peninsula! I am keeping my fingers crossed that Covid goes away and the volcano fizzles out! Stay safe!
Following developments from Newfoundland. Hope all stay safe regardless of what happens.
Prayers for you from America!
Thank you. I love your dog! ❤️❤️❤️ I hope you will all be safe xx
AWESOME reporting. Actually being there and pointing out the volcanos is perfect. Funny to see Pollys hair all over your black coat.
Haha, you noticed. Good eye. She slept on it the night before. So it goes.
You are very dedicated to do what you are for the world. I am a part of this world and am so glad you are sharing this information. Blessings to you and everyone around you.
absolute outstanding work!
Greetings from Wales UK, stay safe Icelanders wishing you all good health, hope events don't get too rough.
Thank you for the interesting update - my son lives and works in Hafnarfjördur, so this is pretty important to me!
Glad to be able to help. But keep in mind that there are no indications of unrest in Krýsuvík. So the most beautiful town in the world (in my opinion) is still safe.
I'm following events as they unfold in your beautiful country with great interest, love your narrative, extremely interesting. This has renewed my interest in geophysics and I am currently studying a geological map of Iceland now, quite a complex you have there in Iceland.
You are in great shape! You walked thru the uneven landscape like you were skating! No heavy breathing. You'd have to send a helicopter to pick my butt up. I would have tripped 15 times! 👍👍💪💪💪
Praying for you and your countrymen, women, children and animals!!!!! You are in God’s hands!
I am enjoying the place/location pointers and information in the videos. Thank you grapevine team
Hello from Sth. Australia ✨ Thanks for a very informative video !
I don't travel and so it's nice to 'virtually' visit, so thanks also for showing me around!
Of cause I hope all will end not too drastically for you all if not well, as for the virus, in AU. we have managed it quite well and have very few cases and they are mainly from returning expatriates. Covid is very persistent and so you have to respond fast and strongly, the problems in Europe and the US. is that they tried to keep the economy from faltering, but that seemingly just does nothing but extend your problems.
Again I hope it all becomes manageable for you soon, stay safe and get your vaccines when you can.
For an extra bit of fun, turn on the close captions... anyway I appreciate your videos so much and it keeps fresh in my mind my trip there in 2019.
If I lived in that area I'd be drinking Brennivin to calm the nerves.
I have to check on Iceland everyday now. What a wonderfuly mysterious place. Be safe!😺🍿 I'll have to check out the merch - maybe make me feel cooler when it's 120° in Phoenix, AZ this summer!
Just found your channel....Love it!...greetings from North Carolina USA
I love it there's no danger he says. He then proceeded to walk to where the volcano will be. I live on Maui and we get a lot of people thinking we're in danger when Kilauea erupts on the big island. Iceland volcanoes are way different than Hawaiian volcanoes.
Hi from Denver Colordo I been watching u every day waiting for the damn thing to blow 😉 now it's become a habit. I enjoy the personal touch the perspective and the dog. Yesterday there was the table w/papers in the rain blowing everywhere and Polly begging for her ball or frisbee(?) And it was all so comical...
Great video. Nice to see what the land really looks like around Iceland.
Enjoy this so much.
Oh no, I am so sorry to hear Covid spreads again, bad luck indeed :(
Thanks so much for your videos, love being able to follow the volcanic situation from France :) And I miss your country so much, can't wait to be back!
I pray tonight God calms your land. Be safe Love from the US
Greetings from the UK, I hope that once we are able to travel again, I can make the trip to see your epic country, stay safe
Yes, it is what it is. And we live in interesting times: storms, volcanos, earthquakes, civil unrest, and oh yeah, COVID. Hopefully, no wars. Thanks, Valur, for putting all of this into perspective. It feels like I know Iceland better than my own country.
Just wanna say your dog is so adorable 😍. Wish you did a close up video at the end😊. Be safe and stay prepared. Hopefully volcano doesn't blow up much.
Fab update.. hearing your pronunciation of the different areas and volcanos is really helpful.. hopefully things will quieten down for you guys, but, if they don’t, then maybe in the next few years I’ll be able to associate the words with how they really sound!!😂
it,'s under the sea floor out on the south side not on shore wake up prayers going out to you all stay safe hope it go's down and stop's for you all amen .
Best reporter ever🤗
A star is born... !!!
Praying All goes well. Thank you for informing us.
I wonder which species of trees are in the small forest near Reykjavik? We can see conifers, perhaps lodgepole pines and Sitka spruces and deciduous trees, perhaps poplars.
Wow! Thank you for the walk around and info. Know nothing about Iceland except its cold, has thermal power and nasty volcanos. Yr camera person is amazing. My hands not that steady when I'm standing still! Please God that you are all safe but its not looking good.
Love your updates! Keep safe there.
You are so honest and that is so refreshing thank you
Not to worry, if Canada can bring in 450,000 asians per yer then we sure can bring in 300,000+ Icelanders.
These videos are awesome! Thank you for such amazing content. Hope to visit Iceland oneday when the world returns to a somewhat normalcy.
Take care :)
Praying for you guys! God bless.
I very much like this type of weather cast with Polly. The accent is sweet but those, what I call, little expressions and other words interspersed are wonderful. “Where’s the path, ....Jesus” hahahahaI love it.🇦🇺👍🏼
I have missed your broadcast for the past several days. Welcome back!
You do a good job! Thanks a lot for infos! Stay safe and good wishes from germany!
A great and informative video! I now feel safe in my home in Oregon.
Not so fast, Bandit. We have a nice little active volcano just north of Portland and they are forecasting a big earthquake for us.
Thank you❤🤗😁 Iceland is beautiful!!!!
Great Video! God Bless you all and your creatures! Keep safe - fm Australia 🇦🇺🙏🙏🙏
Have been following situation in Iceland. Thank you for the update and explanation about volcanoes in Iceland.
Excellent presentation and walk.
Just found this channel and really made my day!
Hello from Texas. I sincerely hope things turn out okay for everyone there. I recently read that when Eyjafjallajökull erupts, historically, Katla has often erupted within a few years after. Is there any concern of that happening with the recent events? That would have to be a nightmare scenario since Katla has unleashed hell on earth in the past. I have learned more about Iceland from your videos recently than in my entire lifetime. After seeing how rough and jagged the lava rock is, I would think Iceland must be the sprained ankle capital of the world. Also, Polly is a beautiful dog.
Katla is always on our mind. She's also due to erupt, and that will be a dangerous one, mostly because of the chances of flash floods. But thankfully this haven't happened yet.
Hello neighbours from the North of Scotland Europe. Despite the quakes and volcanoes I hope to get back once the covid has gone.
bad luck with the COVID ... just shows that the situation is still so very dangerous. I would love to be a tourist at one of these lava fountain eruptions, perhaps the volcano will wait until winter and then I would be able to see the northern lights at the same time!
Aloha WOW Packed Full of Truth
Awesome Information.
Very Vast Volcano Fields
I would Move.🙏🎶🙏🏖️🌴
Great video....loved Iceland the three times i visited. Praying for you all.
Impressive explanation 😊... wanted to visit the beautiful Iceland next year with my husband... stay safe people of Iceland... there are so many volcanoes across the world erupting since last one week..
A great video...thanks Valur. Really informative to someone in the UK who thinks Iceland is amazing and can’t wait to get back there soon. I really hope both situations clear up soon and don’t cause you guys any hardship. Take care and I look forward to the next video.
Nice information, i hope you coming with more information again soon, thank you👍👍😀🤗❤❤
Very good report on the volcanic activity. Time to get past the COVID panic. It is endemic to society. I have had it. I personally know 18 others who have had it. None of then had any serious symptoms and all recovered within 6 to 8 days.
back may 2018 we just had left the Big Island of Hawaii and a day later the number 8 fissure started to open up in Lehanni Estates right in the road quite a sight I am told. At least it was the slow moving lava
and nobody was hurt but many homes were destroyed. I imagine that when the fissures open up in your area they will be slow moving and people will be able to leave, but not so their homes. Hawaiians live with the threat of lava and respect it I would think Icelanders are the same.
Yes, this would be quite similar to the ones in Hawaii, minus climate. Everybody would always have some time to respond, even in the worst case scenarios.
TY. You are a YT star.
I've subscribed. Throughly enjoyed your walk and commentary!
Good luck from New Zealand
We have had our share of shakes and tsunami warning
A bit scary
Bannister is the word your looking for
