RVK Newscast #81: Earthquakes Up To 20,000 & The Comeback Nobody Asked For

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 7 бер 2021
  • We are now at close to 20,000 earthquakes-or even more-but there are still no volcanic eruptions. Scientists are pretty sure that there is a serious threat going on, though. We look at the complex situation arising from there being five volcanic systems in the area, and why it’s wrong to say that there is a volcano in Krýsuvík.
Finally, the comeback nobody asked for; COVID-19 is back with a vengeance. And it means business, possibly threatening the fourth wave. But there is also the possibility that neither of these things will happen-the fourth wave, or a volcano. What a time to be alive, right?

The world needs more proper journalist around the globe, not just annoying youtube channels that forward the same information from other youtube channels, copycats
They usually can't even get original footage and bring up old videos to fool viewers

Hello Valur! I am in 🇨🇦. I have been watching your videos every day recently. I find them to be excellent, entertaining, in beautiful places and with Polly making it very special. The word that you were looking for is "handrail". Please keep making these videos often. We all love to see any places in Iceland, people interviews, animals, nature, and yes, volcanoes, lava and the sea. Take care!

Thank you for keeping us all up to date, it's been hard being locked down for over two months in the UK, but at least the ground is still beneath my feet (Last earthquake in my home town was a 4.6 in 1884!). You really are giving geology a human edge, it's both awe inspiring and frightening.

You just have to do a little homework and learn how some of the different letters are pronounced. The vowels are all pure and the umlauts are similar to German. I actually find Fagradasfjall much easier to pronounce than the last mountain that erupted, the one they eventually referred to as E15 because it had 15 letters you could NOT pronounce. Ha ha ha ha - by the way, a double L in Icelandic is pronounced TL. It is not a sound we have in English but it appears in Aztec. (!). And that is your linguistic trivia lesson for today.

The Reykjanes peninsula is my favorite place in Iceland. I can´t wait to come back! My biggest regret though, was not buying a sweater... So, when I came home, I learned how to make one myself. There is about two months out of the year I can wear it. Icelandic wool will save you from the next ice age! Winter temperatures in my area of California are the same as summer temperatures in the Reykjanes peninsula! I am keeping my fingers crossed that Covid goes away and the volcano fizzles out! Stay safe!

Hello from Sth. Australia ✨ Thanks for a very informative video !
I don't travel and so it's nice to 'virtually' visit, so thanks also for showing me around!
Of cause I hope all will end not too drastically for you all if not well, as for the virus, in AU. we have managed it quite well and have very few cases and they are mainly from returning expatriates. Covid is very persistent and so you have to respond fast and strongly, the problems in Europe and the US. is that they tried to keep the economy from faltering, but that seemingly just does nothing but extend your problems.
Again I hope it all becomes manageable for you soon, stay safe and get your vaccines when you can.

Hello from Texas. I sincerely hope things turn out okay for everyone there. I recently read that when Eyjafjallajökull erupts, historically, Katla has often erupted within a few years after. Is there any concern of that happening with the recent events? That would have to be a nightmare scenario since Katla has unleashed hell on earth in the past. I have learned more about Iceland from your videos recently than in my entire lifetime. After seeing how rough and jagged the lava rock is, I would think Iceland must be the sprained ankle capital of the world. Also, Polly is a beautiful dog.

Katla is always on our mind. She's also due to erupt, and that will be a dangerous one, mostly because of the chances of flash floods. But thankfully this haven't happened yet.

back may 2018 we just had left the Big Island of Hawaii and a day later the number 8 fissure started to open up in Lehanni Estates right in the road quite a sight I am told. At least it was the slow moving lava
and nobody was hurt but many homes were destroyed. I imagine that when the fissures open up in your area they will be slow moving and people will be able to leave, but not so their homes. Hawaiians live with the threat of lava and respect it I would think Icelanders are the same.
