I have the X670E (AMD) version of this board, and it's one of the few boards that can justify its price. 10GbE alone is worth around $100, and having the massive number of USB ports, gen 5 slots, nvme slots, and etc make it one of the few first gen boards of the new platforms that can be expected to last the lifetime of the platform.

Uh, that's great. A lot of boards will handle that fine. The point of the video is it has dual thunderbolt/usb4 and 10gbe, which is something that your msi board doesn't have, but it also costs twice as much as the msi board. I'm not sure what argument you're trying to make.@@The300ZXGuru

@@The300ZXGuru That's kind of the point though. With 10GbE, you can shove that into a NAS and still have fast enough transfer to enable editing directly from the NAS. USB4 has less use cases, with some major ones being external gpu, thunderbolt docks, and thunderbolt ssd. But again, it's a content creation motherboard, so storage/transfer speeds are priority.

One thing that's not been discussed is these Asus ProArt boards are very popular with music producers using Windows, due to the low DPC latency they offer.

    • @iMakeFunWithFish

@@drunkntigr Thats a good thing! Low DPC (Deferred Procedure Call) latency is crucial for real-time audio processing, which is essential for music production. High DPC latency can cause audio dropouts, glitches, or latency issues, which can be incredibly frustrating for music producers.

This is a great motherboard for homelabs because you can split the first 2 PCIe slots in a x8 setup and fit 2 GPUs, can add a network car in the last slot for more networking, even a 1G card for a management interface, saving the faster slots for higher performance VM’s, and you can pass through the iGPU to a VM or share it if using LXC containers. Having a consumer CPU board that can house 3 GPUs AND has a lot of network IO is awesome.

"Creator" - *M.2_4 slot shares bandwidth with SATA6G_5~8. SATA6G 5~8 will be suspended once either a SATA or NVMe device is detected at M.2_4.* So Asus did same as usual in almost all ther MoBo 600-700 series(except STRIX Z690-F GAMING WIFI - there is only one SATA6G_2 will be disabled when M.2_4 is operating in SATA mode) and a few other models, that can be counted on the fingers. So basicly if you want to put together a mini-storage in your PC by filling this board completely, you can easily get to a point where instead of 8 Sata you only have 4 available. And that's for very high price of that board. BTW two Ethernet ports is useful.

Considering how powerful the 13th and 14th are, if you want to go with Intel and don't mind about the 15th gen (that will use a different socket, so think that there will be not upgrade path CPU wise if you put a 14900K in it), this board will provide you with everything you might want for a veeeeeery long time.
PCIe Gen 5 isn't even standard in GPUs (though the rumor say that NVIDIA is planning for it for it's next 5000 series), M.2 Gen 4 SSD can reach very good speeds (you can take a Samsung 990 Pro if you want one of the top of the line, and it's even compatible with Gen 5).
The only thing to really consider is for the upgrability of the CPU. LGA1700 is officially not getting any more CPU, and AM5 is brand new, so more recommandable if you care for upgrade (Asus ProArt X670E is the AM5 equivalent of this board).

@@philberex You're welcome, I wish I had come across your question a little earlier, though. 😂
But if I can elaborate a little, depending on which use case you'll build your computer for, don't hesitate to go for AMD's options. Their last gen CPUs are crazy efficient (Ryzen 9 7900 has 12 cores for a 65W thermal envelop, and its performance are on par with its overclocked counterpart, and you can get it for around 330€) and it would allow you to balance the electricity load towards a more performant GPU, for instance.

And it doesn't matter if you bought a Strix with DDR4 for $300 or something similar with DDR4 for a similar price.
