Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. I'm making over a 202 sq ft studio apartment, using Ashley Tisdale's home style as inspiration. I love how Ashley's home is neutral, textured, comfortable and stylish which is the perfect vibe for this hardworking teacher receiving this makeover.

I love how Graham is building all his fabulous furniture and hacks on a sidewalk or in front of a garage. Winter is coming, though. We should crowdfund him a studio. He deserves.
He is awesome, truly!!!
Is Graham dating AG? Just curious...they look cute together
@@skinnychef894 Nono, she lives with her boyfriend
@@lucianadr710 thanks for your reply
YES
Graham is not a DIYer, he’s a pro
LOL, I'm wondering how you can afford Graham!!
The makeover turned out beautiful. But, for 200 sf space, I would love to have seen more storage solutions like choosing a platform bed that has drawers in it or enough clearance space to slide in low profile plastic bins. Or a bedside table with drawers.
Yeees! A bedside without drawers seems like an affront in a small space.. You need space to put your personal intimate things..the bench could have been with storage as well, the coffee table-same situation.
it does seem like she has a big closet tho and if storage wasn’t a priority for her, then I guess it’s definitely not a problem.
I was think the same thing. Many of these make overs look like room in a magazine not practical places to live day to day. Who has coffee table books any more. We have computers, phones and ipads. that what is beside my bed and I'm 75.
@@devilinbluejeansxx8925 yes.. but I guess you don’t keep your devices and their chargers in the closet.. or other intimate things you need besides your bed.. the same with the coffee tables.. it’s nice enough till someone lives there and day by day they will have a lot of crap hanging everywhere cause they don’t have enough drawers.. they shouldn’t rely only on a closet in the hallway that it’s for clothes.
Also, this happens every makeover, so you cannot say that everyone doesn’t want storage.. Ag’s design are beautiful but lack functionality and organisation.. she should include that in the designs.. like a coffee table that expends into a dinner table/laptop table when there in no space to have both etc.
and even the desk too! no drawers in the whole place!
My brain appreciates the ending of this video, cuz I would've stayed up all night thinking how delicate that table must be 😂 Amaaaaaazing DIY project. 👏
Shout out to Never Too Small, where the desk / art inspo video came from. They have amazing content for designing super small spaces.
Came here to say this!!! That small home is gorgeous and the fold down table was the star piece
Great to know! Which episode was that?
It's this one! ua-cam.com/video/Mh4W1SaR6mg/v-deo.html
@@annaalbertson7692 thank you
I'd watch a never too small x AG collabaration.
As a book and paper conservator, here is my solution to adding the print to the wood: use diluted PVA (You can purchase this in a craft store, anywhere near a bookbinding section) and roll it on the back of the print and on the wood. Let it sit for a minute or so to let it get tackier, and then apply the print to the wood. To smooth out any bubbles, I would use another piece of paper on top of the print to protect it from the flat plastic squeegee thing you were using. Once the PVA is dry, you can apply Mod Podge on top to make it look like "an oil painting" (I'm quite skeptical of this technique but whatever). I would not use MP as the actual glue to glue it to the wood.
I agree. Paper gets wet from the glue and then gets "bigger" (don't know the right word). So when you put glue on the wood and put the dry paper on it, it starts to get wet and you get bubbles. Sometimes the problem is solved, when the paper is dry again, but the best thing is to also put glue on the paper.
I had been thinking ModPodge is a brand of diluted PVA. I was thinking wrong, apparently.
I have seen people iron it on.
Mod Podge is PVA (with additional ingredients). Spray adhesive that needs to get Tacky before joining the items together works very well. Using Mod Podge for a look of a painting works great. Using a brush to follow the print makes it even better. Plus it affords some protection.
@@JJoy-bk8yr It is. I think she's just snobbing MP.
I love all team AG videos and I really want to see more functional, 2 in 1 pieces for small apartments like this desk Graham made. Some pieces are just beautiful like that side table or coffee table, but no drawers, no functionality.. There are so many great pieces out there like expendable coffee tables into a dining one, a bench in front of the bed with storage, night tables that can actually hold and hide personal/intimitate items.
Functional, multi purpose furniture can be beautiful too and it's a must in a tiny space (speaking from experience) 🤗
Graham is an absolute gem! I’m curious what his home must be like since he is SO handy!
My husband watched this video with me. His comment was that he likes your videos so much because you show the “fails”. You guys did a great job on the space :)
I agree. Seeing the “fails” and the subsequent problem solving is so helpful
Yes! The design and thinking process can be sound, but learning how to pivot when something unexpected happens like an item is stuck in customs, or breaks during installation, or just doesn’t work the way we thought it would is a skill that nobody teaches us. That’s why it’s so good to be able to learn from the example of others, if they’re willing to share their wisdom or mistakes.
But interior decorating/design shows already show problems/fails (tho a lot is fabricated)...?
@@Heyu7her3 What does this comment even mean?
@@Heyu7her3 I agree - sometimes the problems on other decorating shows seem like are just to add drama
Your channel has come such a long way over the years! I'm loving your studio makeovers more each time.
Also, Graham is truly such a gem. He's such a priceless asset to the team. Definitely deserves more recognition!
Definitely needs to be the highest paid team member!!!!!! THE HIGHEST!
Graham truly an artist. Beautiful work.
I imagine Chico and Graham going into a really creative diy and bring something magical to life and then them showcasing it to us bc the whole team always being the whole picture to life
@@Mt-n6om I agree that Graham is a gem but I'm sure the rest of the team also pull their weight - they just have different jobs and don't get filmed doing them. It's down to their hard work filming, editing and so on that we all have come to know and love Graham.
@@Mt-n6om I know how easy it is to discount the other members' efforts because we only see the final product--the video--and how the room was _physically_ put together. But let's not forget the hundreds of hours of editing, logistics, and the trial-and-error exhaustive approach of design that also takes effort. Graham is a legend, truly, but I'm willing to bet that most of all the work happens behind the scenes.
Tip for plants in macrame hangers: you can put drip trays under plant pots in the macrame as long as they have a bit of a lip like bowls or dipping plates. I've found plant trays that come with some plastic/terracotta pots fit perfectly into macrame hangers and I've been able to water my plants without removing them from the hangers.
Or you can put the plants in simple/plastic pots and put those in decorative pots/bowls without drainage holes (add some spacers between the plant pot and decorative container with something like tile samples or flat stones to add reservoir space for the excess water to drip into).
OMG!!! I hated the art print and glad it didn't work out. Now you have that great, artistic paper that really reflects the Ashley Tisdale style! Love it!!!
Using too much glue isn't a great idea with paper. Alexandra needed to do an experiment first before "executing".
I couldn't deal with the entire desk idea, seemed too thick, too small, like, at that point, just hand paint something on it. She so often looses the bigger picture, getting hyper focus on one idea the owner wouldnt care about whether they had it or not.
yeah I was like, will the tenant of the space actually want to look at a naked body everyday? doing soft colours is way more safe and pretty.. didn't like the print myself either, esp in such a tiny space
@@dominiquelemoine9600…um… you do realise she showers, gets dressed, etc. so she does already look at a naked body everyday 🤣 and please don’t make it weird. Everyone has one.
I didn't like the print either, mostly because the anatomy was off and the art style isn't unique or quirky enough to pull it off.
For someone who have watched every AD celebrity home tours, I have thought how expensive, impractical, and impossible in a small space some of celebrities home style so I was really amazed on how Alexandra & team did it in this makeover. I am so excited and grateful for this new series.
same!

Her suite is gorgeous - the colors, the separation blinds, the side tables and everything else. She'll feel like she's stepped into a breath of fresh air everytime she takes in her home. So much too appreciate. Beautifully created Alexander.
Yeah, it’s come a long way!!! I know she just moved in, but I’m not sure why there wasn’t even a hint of her inspo and style there before Team AG came in and worked their magic. I mean, a white bedspread or comforter for starters would have made a big difference, as would light or white throws on that futon sofa.
See seems like she’s a very sweet teacher and overall person so she def deserves a whole house like this it’s gorgeous
thank you for including all the footage around the modge podge desk situation. it was real, honest and clearly showed that DIY isn't always easy. way to persevere and figure out a solution though! and I laughed all the way through the process. the end result of the make over was top notch. well done!
This project was such an amazing showcase of grahams woodworking skills. It came out so beautifully. I am so impressed
That is a beautiful room. For the plants, a simpler solution would be to double pot them. Put the plant in a smaller plastic pot with drainage. Place small rocks on the bottom of your decorative pot that doesn't have drainage, and set the plastic pot on the rocks inside the larger decorative pot. The rocks allow enough space so the plant doesn't sit in the excess water that drains out of the inner pot.
they also don't seem like the type of plants that should be hung, and the thing on the floor was very clearly a temporary thing she uses to water them all and drain them without getting water all over... i feel like it would be helpful to both her and the viewers if alexandra learned a bit more about plants before designing with them!
@@pierogiwitch Agree. That arrangement might look nice, but totally impractical. Watering would be a complete nuisance with water spilling, etc. If she likes the look use something artificial against the wall and overhead. For the real plants get some shelving by the daylight.
I have double potted all my life. I willl also use heavy plastic to line a pot that is decorative and has a drainage hole and then also add a drip train inside so I can add the plant in a plastic pot. I also cut down plastic bottles of various sizes to fit into decorative pots.
@@retroredo9850 I would like less talking and more information about principles of decorating.
@@TubeTorte I totally agree. Need some common since.
So many things I love about this video and I will now list them:
1. The fact that you show the process and all the failures you go through before you get it right
2. Graham's powers (heart eyes)
3. The water bottle
4. Gazelle sighting at 28:42 lol
Team AG is just so wholesome, pls never stop making videos.
Is there a kitchen/kitchenette in this apartment? It would have been interesting to see how it worked into the new design. I also think that curtains that reached to the floor would have been a better solution to separating the sleeping and living areas than flimsy paper blinds that only reach part way. Overall, I’m a fan of the new light, bright, pulled together look.
It has a kitchen. Check 28:34, behind Alexandra... Also, seems like a good space for an expendable desk/dining table.. I agree about the blinds.. Too short in my opinion
I believe they do but she just didn't show it
It's to the left of that art desk
Completely agree on the curtains!!
The blinds need to hit floor level . The wall desk is too flimsy & way too small ; & , sorry , but , what’s with a black curtain rod & ( yet again !) white curtains ?
As a graphic designer who makes papers, I really enjoyed the comments here….some really 😅good tricks. This application would also have been a great location for a vinyl peel and stick. The designs are incredible and they’re easily reversed if the client wants new “ art”.
I have very plain walls, in an apartment, as well, and have thought about that option of the impermanent wall coverings. ( I am not supposed to paint the walls, nor nail art, etc. on the walls, which I haven't done.)
So, that since you have experience with how easy that option is to utilize, and tell us as much, is very encouraging.
Loved every little nook ❤ The only little thing I would change is the pots hanging over the sofa. I just want to sit there and soak in the coziness and not worry abt something falling on my head 😥
I felt the same way, not good FengShui. Also you have to consider the sunlight. It clearly shines more on the floor than on the wall and that may become an issue later if these are sun loving plants.
@@Creyole They're pothos and spiderplants, those are immortal lol
I agree. I would not like pots hanging over my head.
I love the plants hanging from the wood, but I think it would have been better placed in front of the window, or an a floating shelf above the sofa so you'd feel less like they are going to fall or leak on your head
And every hanging pot need a deep saucer/dish under it to hold excess water when watering. Even indestructible plants need sufficient light, or they will get skinny and leggy---not a good look!
You and Graham together are an unbeatable combo! Love the interaction between you and the team on site. Nice shoutout to James!
Graham is so talented and I love his attention to detail. Thank you for finally abandoning the art print and replacing it with the wrapping paper!
As a person who has done A LOT of modpodge-ing in my day I will say, you have to DUMP the bottle out thick underneath the artwork. The paper should basically be floating on glue, then you push out the excess once you adhere it down. It’s definitely a learning curve.
I mean, we all know that Graham is an artist but this desk is so cool! Great job, Graham!!!👏👏👏 And great job Team AG
Beautiful makeover, it would be interesting to know how much these makeovers costs. Seems like with a new couch, new bedding, pillows etc it could add up. Also was not sure about the point of the half length drapes but they ended up looking decent. The desk was a cool idea but seems way to small and fragile to be a true crafting desk. It looked like they had space to make that a lot bigger
In all these make overs I'm sure the owner has a budget of what to spend. I can't believe the designer is given carte Blanche to just spend.
I think the drapes are basically acting as a barrier to mark separation of space without actually taking up space. Maybe hanging full length curtains would make the room too cramped, or make the area seem too small?
I really love the Graham and Alexandra collaborations but that desk/art piece seems a lot of work when he probably could have hacked something from Ikea
Probably one of my favorite makeovers! Super cool to see a fellow teacher getting the home makeover of her dreams (because the urge to keep semi-functional/un-ideal stuff because it can still be used is too real 😅). Graham deserves HUGE kudos for all the labor (plus tools and supply gathering) that level of woodworking requires. As for the print adhesion, my go-to is 1) spray adhesive 2) dry 3)THEN ModPdge.
Spray adhesive for the poster might have worked better.
Lovely makeover! I actually like the second paper better. Fits more with the overall feel.
Wow! Definitley does not look like a dorm room anymore. Beautiful. Congrats, Alexandra, on finding Graham; what a skilled team member! I love that all of your team members have such fun personalities to go with their awesome skill sets.
OMG this is one of my favourites you've ever done. My reaction is far less under-stated. I am screaming in joy for her! The airiness of it. The separation of bed & living room spaces. The custom storage-desk. You outdid yourselves!
You couldn’t have said it any better!! My fav episode so far! 🤩
ummm graham is a master woodworker extraordinaire!! the desk turned out sooo good. I love arches. I really like the abstract wallpaper you guys chose, it works well :) the furniture is sooo nice! I love the driftwood & hanging macrame planters. The blind hack is so cool! Amazing job team AG! 🥰I shed a few tears before the reveal lol, your space can truly make such a difference to how you feel and I am so happy for her!
James was truly the MVP of this video. The editing?? Amazing!
For the table/art project next time try spray adhesive. My hubby and I did a similar project and used spray adhesive. Worked perfectly
Ya, the bubbles and crinkling is classic 90s modpodge craft project. 😮
I love that you show us the process whether it is good, bad, or ugly. Nice to see that even the experts need to problem solve at times and your videos are so much more relatable that way! Also, this is one of my favorite designs I've seen yet!!
Agree. Graham should be working for some super rich people making tons of money cause he is Super talented!!
Hi Alexandra! The Mod Podge project... you have to midst the back of the poster with water, let it absurd evenly and then* put it on your wood you've applied Mod Podge to. Water makes all the difference! Great idea!
Yep, was going to say the same thing as you: wet the paper
A thinner paper would be better but with this one water is definitely needed. Plus, way more Mod Podge.
I really appreciate that the people in this particular part of the chat actually offered a real solution as opposed to being negative about it or acting like they don't understand why would you mod podge! There are hundreds of videos out there dealing with modge podging and they're great The process looks like it's a wonderful thing...So why not offer ways to solve it as opposed to coming in to chat and just being like "Oh she had no need to use modge podge at all". , 🫣Come on!
Thank you for your input.
Very impressive what you have done with this tiny space! (Graham is a wonder! Love his creations!)
I love that you showed the desk process and especially everyone discussing what to do next. Actually I like the wrapping paper print you chose better than the art print anyway. But it's cool to see the problem solving and team huddle and not just everything that goes smoothly (haha pun). Anyway the desk turned out so cool! :)
Graham is an artist for sure. what a great job you all did!
I would love to come home to a room/apartment like this. There's something about the furniture and decor that matches the room perfectly. I love the soft colours in combination with the wood. It looks super soothing and relaxing.
Maybe the BEST studio makeover Team AG has ever done! Great job! I love the way each member of your team complements the skill set of the others. It's what makes your work so amazing, including James on the editing. You are more than the sum of your parts! Way to go!
Literally I am so happy to see her doing so many makeovers for teachers. Alexandra you’re a real one #newpatronsaint
Well done!
She's lucky to have a large balcony, where she can create a little sanctuary, with a sitting area, fountain, lights... I live in Ontario as well and you can get a good 5-6 mos of use out of that space.
I gotta say, because the space is so tiny, it's a little disappointing not having extra storage room, under the bed
I like everything except the fact that the plants have to be removed to water them. That would get old really fast! And what if you put them back in the hanger, and then they dripped a few drips overnight…now you have a dirty couch! Add drip trays under the pots in the hanger, or I’ll bet they’re going to go back to living on the drip tray most of the time.
I thought the same thing.
I love the neutral calmness and vibe of this tiny makeover. Beautiful ❤
Grahm is such a craftsman, he does awesome work, from what I've seen, he can recreate or create anything. Kudos to him!!!
Your ingenious custom made touches to these modest little spaces sets you apart from other makeovers. You never fail to surprise and thrill me with your vision. Thanks for showing us that no matter how small a space is you can make it feel like home.
Love it. So pretty, calm and inviting. The Desk/Art combo looks amazing. A job well done as always.
You and your team did an amazing job! The vibes are very much like the AD video, with two, probably three exceptions. To relieve all the natural tones there was a mustard yellow chair and a pink blanket, but no black. And the sense of quirkiness was missing. This is completely minor of course, the change for the better is incredible!
Massive transformation. The warmth, light, and spacious feeling. You and your team really are so inventive.
I love the honesty and the creativity and curiosity from you guys genuinely. Like your trying like heaven to make it work and your team is doing their job by telling you no on the not so good ideas
Hi Alexandra, you’re amazing! The happiness in your client’s eyes just sums everything up !
This is amazing!!
I am so happy you selected this space to transform! She is well deserving it literally went from rags to riches! The diy desk is so creative I love all of Grams designs he is so talented as you all are in your own way. Each member of the teams brings something unique to the process!
What a great episode. This lady was so sweet and really deserved to have her space showcased. I’m glad Alex and the team can through for her. She was very pleased and appreciative. Very humble and happy for her. Best of luck to all of you and happy holidays!
I so look forward to these transformations . They blow me away . Great job . Team AG shows how you can create a space that you love to be in so you can relax, unwind and mist of enjoy your space . What a blessing all of you are. Everything is beautiful . This is even great for downsizing older people too.
When doing decoupage the paper always bubbles up. Just leave it alone until it dries. Then you can use wax paper on top to iron it down as needed. Add more glue and repeat process, then polyurethane
Thank you for sharing. Tell me, what is the wax paper for?
@@sosexymagazinerobinwatkins8467 to keep the iron from sticking to the glue. I often put a thick layer of wood glue on the base, say 3 coats and then put my dry paper on top and then iron on using the wax paper in between to protect the paper. This melts the glue into the paper. Then put the glue on top. It still bubbles up but not as much. I also find that it does better when I leave it for some time in between steps
@@gwinwebb1009 Thank you for explaining. I want to do this!
I would not want plants over my sofa unless they are fake but I like the idea of how they are hung, though!
The desk is amazing!
Using books for decoration and putting things on top of them is not my thing,
Also not a fan of mirrors at the bed (bad Feng Shui), but at least it is not oposite the bed and I can see how it does make the space look bigger and brighter so I understand why you did it!
I always enjoy your videos, please don´t read my comments as bad critique, it is just about what i personally do or don´t like ;) In the end it is about learning and getting ideas and the client always love it! That is what counts!
Graham is absolutely AMAZING!!! He needs his own business !
Alexandra has done an amazing job of building the AG team that as a whole create amazing content. Awesome job team AG❣
Overall beautiful space. The desk is simply brilliant! There are elements that would not work for me but then I am fussy and don't live there. Another fabulous makeover of a tiny space.
It made it look bigger and very eloquent. I love it. Another great job you guys.
Great interior ideas!!! What a gorgeous makeover, team AG!!! 18:54 as a technic of decoupage you could make first print wet, paper shrinks with water.
Use transparent plastic film on top of paper print. Spray a lot of water on paper, make sure that it takes as much water as could, remove all wrinkles by stretching them out, spread it with fingers from center to the sides. Wood absorbs a lot of moisture too, so you can spray it also before any glue applying. After your mod podge is on the wood you can attach the print to it, , you can operate with it as you want and not afraid that it will tear, rotate or move a little bit, press it down and remove the plastic. No wrinklness!
Maybe it helps :)
Love this neutral-colored, texture-rich, warm and cozy design 🥰🥰🥰

I haven't watched the video yet, but knowing Alexandra, she's going to do such a great job that this teacher is going to cry when she sees it. She DESERVES a place of comfort and of peace and rejuvenation. I can't wait to see what AG does!!
You do great work! Looks very nice. Would like to see you do another dark/moody space as you totally excell in that realm and are the ones I am drawn to most. Like your boyfriends old place and your kitchen makeover with the green was just perfect! Thumbs Up!
Im always so excited when you have uploaded a makeover video, it warms me up to Watch you transform every space. Love the makeovers! ❤️ love from Sweden
You consistently deliver! Totally blown away each week with what you and your team achieve.
I would literally cry the happiest tears if I came home to a change that significantly stunning 😍 pure inspiration right here.
Loving all this content the past couple of weeks! ❤
Wow, this is a beautiful and cohesive space! It's Ashley Tisdale's place in mini form. I am so glad you kept that gorgeous wood side table. I love the lights by the bed so much. The blinds as a divider is a phenomenal touch. That fold-down desk is amazeballs. Great, great makeover. The team is totally on point.
Team AG, never misses a beat! I'm hooked and can't stop watching these makeovers. Graham if you're reading this honestly and truly you are a work of art *literally* lol.... the masterpieces you create needs to be in a store!!!!!
This could be your best yet. So elevated and such a calming space.
My issue...I cannot commit to one style!! I WANT IT ALL :)
The makeover is beautiful. I love the wooden side table and the desk is to die for! I definitely want a desk like that for myself.
The apartment looks beautiful. It's hard to believe it's the same space. I really love the bench at the end of the bed. It looks like a little work of art in itself and can easily be moved to the living area for more seating when needed, likewise taken out to the balcony if she wants to sit there with a friend for a cup of coffee. Great work Team AG.
Graham is the best! He is creative, knowledgable, and does all the heavy lifting!
Wow! I think this is my favourite makeover😍the style really speaks to me. Great job, as usual, everyone ☺️
The key to no bubbles is you have to coat the surface AND the back of the paper BOTH with mod Podge. Then you will have no wrinkles
She's so cute and really deserved this! Thank you for helping her.
Team AG nailed this makeover! All the choices: colors, layout, furniture and lighting work so well together.
Yes a new inspiration for my ideal dream space. Always enjoy the whole gang n always love the inspo. Thank you for the inspiration love it.
Graham is killing it with literally everything he makes, how is he so cool. Does he have his own youtube channel, I would love to see a detailed step-by-step process of how he creates/approaches his projects.
Graham does magic with his wood-work!
He's incredibly talented!
Hello, I am originally from Toronto so I can relate to the size of the apts. You are so lucky to have someone as talented as Graham to work with. He is such a magician with his projects. You all work so well together and don't have a problem suggesting ways to do things to each other. I am getting so many new ideas and using so many more colors in my smaller home. I just bought a pink metal wall shelf with 3 shelves on it. I love it. I don't have much wall space so this helps display my eclectic items. Thank you all for the uplifting videos you make and all those useful ideas.
Hey Alexandra.... I've become a fan of your makeovers.....U rock everytime.... Ahhh.... Just love them....keep going... Wish u all the luck for your future projects.... ❤❤❤❤❤
I absolutely love what you do with these oh too tiny spaces. However, as someone who works at a desk, I will tell you that desk is simply too high to work comfortably. Other than that I find your work amazing. I can’t believe how beautiful and homey you make small spaces. This tiny studio looks bigger as well as beautiful.
I admire her practicality, but I absolutely love this new space for her. What a delight to come home to.
Looks gorgeous! I love the fold-out “picture/table”, and the branch with plants hanging from it is a great idea. Very restful and elegant!
The HSM references were perfect ❤️😂 the desk is amazing! 👏
