After watching this dude catch fish for a year now, I'm ready to sell my Triton and canoe and start Yak fishing. Dealing with jerks on the lakes, the attitudes of bass tournaments and the high costs of gas and oil and battery's has me looking for a more simple way. It all just doesn't seem as fun as this.
That first smallie was gigantic! I always feel the adrenaline rush from my chair when I watch your videos. I really don't think that there's any other channel that does this like you do.
Over the entire season, my total for smallies 18" or better at my local river stands at 4. You just caught that many in one day. Just throwing that out there. Great vid, looking forward to some more chilly water smallmouths!
Swear my biggest this being my first year smallmouth fishing is 19 and it took alot of work to find one that good every video you watch is chocked full of 20s!
I agree with Jon Boll, I havnt caught very many 18" plus and I get happy when I catch a 13-15" fish although I have good rivers near me neither are as good of a smallmouth fishery as any of the lakes or streams in this guys area.
2:52 was by far one of my favorite catches you made on the channel. From the way it hit the top of the water to the sheer size of the thing. What an incredible catch!
Brother, if you ever want to fish for some World Class Smallmouth in Tennessee, give me a shout! We got a Lake called Chilhowee, that's cold mountain water, crystal clear, and its World Class Fishing!!! My Dads largest, is 8lb, 4oz. And my largest is 7lb 12 oz. But they average around 4 to 6 lbs. And they fight like you've hooked daffy duck!!! Love your vids, best show on youtube. Lmk, if you wanna come, and bring your kyack, that's how we do it too!!! ....... Peace!!!
I'm going out today. Gonna try topwater. Those seagulls were wanting that spook. Wow what a first fish!! I use that scale too, very reliable. Oh man that Blue Heron was on it! Those were all some nice fish! Awesome man 👊
A most enjoyable outcast fishing day in October when you expect the good time for smallies or largies is about to be over and you grab those final moments. As always this video is a real treat to myself at the end of my day. By the way, I also had an anecdote similar to yours with that heron. It was with a “martín pescador” ( a beautiful blue coloured Eurasian fishing bird) which attacked my jerkbait repeatedly.
As a kid growing up on Long Island sound, we'd tie snapper blues right to our line, and throw it out so the seagulls would pick it up, and try to fly away with it...or so they thought. : )
Can't beat the tank busting action in October. Seagulls, Great Blue Heron, bird apocalypse! I was waiting on ravens to confirm that theory. Great video
I live next to the Susquehanna river which is supposed to be one of the best small mouth fisheries in the country but I don’t see how it would compare to the places u fish I haven’t ever fished there though but I never seen much bass like the ones you pull out of there
I was born and raised in Minnesota, never fished for small mouth. Finally started to fish for them after watching you. Haven’t caught any monsters. The ones I have caught tho fight like no other. If I ever come back I would love to go out with you
Awesome stuff. Sure hope this is not the last of your smallie action for the season. Watching your videos when I'm away from my home waters and unable to fish gives me the thrill I need to keep me sane. Tight lines!
water temp is already down to 50 in northern idaho. fished my favorite lake for smallies with a friend and all we got were a couple largies and a brown trout. I need to move to wamer minnesota lol
Man. I tried a whopper plopper 90. Rattle trap, and a jerkbait. Not a single bass for me. Just the trout. A bad day at this lake used to be 10-15 smallies only lol
52 degree water is usually the point where they seem to lose interest in topwater. A jerkbait should be good below that though. I’ll throw those, jigs, and wacky worms most of the time from now until it ices up.
I tried a bitsy bug jig with a yum chunky crawl trailer and a whacky rigged yum dinger. Not a sniff. My friend got one on a jerkbait and one on a roostertail. Before they loved whopper ploppers, cranks, and whacky rigs
Boy those gulls really want that spook.. you should carry a small bb gun with you to help convince them they do not want it.. Dang that was a chunkmyster! Heck I have an old wright Mcagill eagle claw pole I picked up in the 70's cost me 10 bucks I think.. caught more fish with that ole pole that I can even remember.. still got it and it still catches fish! A hundred buck seem like a lot of money to spend on a pole to me.. Geez we just might start callin' you the bird man!...... Well thanks again for the trip down the river.. always fun going with you.. take care, carry on and be safe..
man I love your smallmouth video's those things are tanks you are catching! my PB smallies is 2.9 pounds I would love to catch a 4 or 5 you have some real donkeys up there where you fish my friend! going to be bummed when it get's to cold for you to fish for them again this year always look forward t your video's!
Rod me too! I’ve just started a UA-cam Channel on fishing that you might I joy. Check it out, like, comment and possibly subscribe. ua-cam.com/video/dAjfFaQHCtY/v-deo.html
I had an owl chase my Whopper Plopper for about an hour one day. He just kept following me up the creek as I waded. I figured it was mental. Looks like all of your birds are mental.
Your topwater season is coming to a close just as ours is about to heat up! I've loved watching your vids while our Aussie bass have been having a rest. If you want a fix of topwater action I'll be sure to post up some Australian Bass smashing surface on my channel to keep you going thru winter :)
Nice smallmouths Zara Spooks & jumpin minnows are great baits! The weighing & measuring isn’t all that? Most fishermen can guess the size & weight just by looking and beginners aren’t going know what a nice smallie is until they start catching them! The quick release is the cats ass!
Thanks! I think that first fish was around 5lbs. The scale reading seemed a little light so when I got home I threw a 5lb weight on it and it said something like 4-2. That’s one reason I usually just get length measurements instead of weighing fish, I don’t trust those scales much.

He is awesome!
That first smallie was gigantic! I always feel the adrenaline rush from my chair when I watch your videos.
I really don't think that there's any other channel that does this like you do.
Those seagulls had me cracking up!! 😂😂🤣
Yeah. And then the heron!
"I don't think that was seagull poop!" Hysterical 🤣Love your channel, keep em coming as long as you can in the cold!! Best wishes!
I don't know how you keep your calm composure catching that first one. I'd be jumping up and down like a kid on Christmas

Time to move to Minnesota. Or does NDyakAngler offer guided trips :O ???
My best was last month, 22 inch tank of a bass
I got used to catching 15"s .. even a 13 would make me happy.. our rivers have them but hard to find unless you put in a lot.of time
I agree with Jon Boll, I havnt caught very many 18" plus and I get happy when I catch a 13-15" fish although I have good rivers near me neither are as good of a smallmouth fishery as any of the lakes or streams in this guys area.

I love this channel, I fish rivers for smallies too so this is just amazing to me
You are one of the few people I believe can tell the difference in high end rods. I myself, cannot. They all just feel nice hahahaha
Yes! Love this video. No greater feeling than when you see a swirl and cast on it and a smallie destroys it! Awesome video!
1st catch was insane!!! That was so awesome how that bass jumped that spook ❤️❤️❤️
Ain't nothing sweeter than top water fishing and that rush. Sweet video
Absolutely the best top water strikes I’ve ever seen, the first & last were awesome, beautiful fish, nice catches!
Always look forward to your vids. Keepin fishing videos the way they should be. Good fishing without the bull!

Thanks for another awesome video Matt. ST. Croix should be paying you big time. Your the reason I purchased my ST. Croix rods.
Holy Moly catchin 'em right at the launch ramp next to the highway.
A 21" 4-pound moose and a group of 18" elks.
Clobbering a topwater spook!!
I don’t know how u manage to stay that calm while catching those fish
Thanks again, with arthritis in my legs it keeps me off the water. But I really enjoy watching these videos of yours.
Unbelievable fishery you got out in Minnesota, would love to have that kind in Massachusetts that’s for sure
My God that first fish was a GIANT!! That scale had to be off.
21 inches and only 4lbs??? Yups, that scale is definitely off lol. I agree it was a GIANT!
@@huelauj Damn near as big around as it was long!
Again im gonna say you ate so lucky to have fisheries like that. Been waiting for a good video been a few weeks. And this foots the bill!.
As a kid growing up on Long Island sound, we'd tie snapper blues right to our line, and throw it out so the seagulls would pick it up, and try to fly away with it...or so they thought. : )

2:53 Flew out the water for that spook!!
Beautiful smallies!! Those seagulls can be hilariously annoying. Usually why I don’t throw top-water in the river behind my house. 🤣
Impressed with the hooks on that spook. They really held those Smallmouth even through jumps and thrashes.
He upgrades his hooks as do I. I prefer the full size super-spook.
Awesome stuff. Sure hope this is not the last of your smallie action for the season. Watching your videos when I'm away from my home waters and unable to fish gives me the thrill I need to keep me sane. Tight lines!
I’m hoping for a few more weeks of open water! I still have several videos worth of footage from the past few months too.
Birds were hungry that day. Nice bass ND, That last one was incredibly wide! hope you find fish through the cold season. be safe
Another awesome day of fishing 🎣 😎, your to blessed to be stressed.
😲👍👍You got some TANKS!! That spooks working like a charm!
Watching this made me go fishing 🙏 Biggest small mouth fishery is the st. Lawrence River. Wolf island is on my bucket list...
Love them Sppoks. Great day of fishing for you. Loved it.
Great video! Good fish there.
I had the same problem with seagulls on my body of water, I never did catch a fish while they were trying to get my lures.
water temp is already down to 50 in northern idaho. fished my favorite lake for smallies with a friend and all we got were a couple largies and a brown trout. I need to move to wamer minnesota lol
I just got off the water and it was 42 degrees here in MN today after three days of low 30’s air temps and a snow storm. The bass were hungry though!
Man. I tried a whopper plopper 90. Rattle trap, and a jerkbait. Not a single bass for me. Just the trout. A bad day at this lake used to be 10-15 smallies only lol

Awesome as always!
There I no season for seagull. Also no limit. Tastes like chicken. I hear. Awsome video. Thanks
please check that scale, no way that first fish was 4-4!
Awesome video as always!! Those were some oinkers!! On my Birthday at that!! Thank you sir!!
Which is bigger, a fish that is a toad or one that is a pig?
Pig is bigger.lol

Wow those small mouths really explode on that topwater.... Great fishin fun ;)

Your videos always make me want to get up to Minnesota and fish top water
10:18 baby come back song went through my head.
I have the st croix bass x 7ft medium fast and its incredible.
I caught a blue heron on a popper one time... it was an interesting catch plus it had a DD22 hung on his foot
The size of the fish are really impressive! Nice going
caught my pb yesterday...bought my 1st spook today...trying that out tomorrow.
Man!!!! I gotta come up there and catch one of those big smallies!! Wow!!
Beautiful bronzies!
Smallies always fight to the bitter end.
Nice video buddy 👍 and nice smallies love the spooks
I had an owl chase my Whopper Plopper for about an hour one day. He just kept following me up the creek as I waded. I figured it was mental. Looks like all of your birds are mental.
Beast smallmouth. Great video as always
Dang dude. Fishing for urban tanks. Great video. Well done!
You catch some beautiful fish 🎣
Wow 👍🏻
dude those fish are huge, holy hell
“Get away from my spook” lol
Early Christmas with that first one
that spook must REALLY be "life like"...fooling all the birds!
👏👏😁
Have you ever caught a seagull? Trust me, you don't want to!
Nice video Matt, I wasn’t sure in the beginning if you were fishing or bird hunting. Lol
Another gr8 vid nice catch
That first one was close to a wall hanger. Thanks for sharing.
Giants!! Holy cow we dont get them that big around here, nice fish man!
A scale! Hooray!
My girlfriend was watching this with me and after that first monster she looked at me and went "you would absolutely lose your mind". Shes not wrong

Thanks Matt will be my my river tomorrow
Nice end of season top action
I was ducking when you paddled under that bridge🤦🏼♂️
Nice smallies once again
you should have more than a mil subs
Always on that sauce man!
I’ve always wanted you to weigh them
I don't trust that scale. 21inches in october? Looked too fat to be only 4lb4oz
TIM PRICE I have that exact scale and I wonder the same thing a lot here on Lake Michigan
TIM PRICE that fish looked 5 even to me
Great vid...I guessed 4lb 3oz on that first smallie! Pretty damn close

NDYakAngler thank you for answering back...what an amazing smallie! Keep up the great work. New subscriber
I'm just speechless right now.
Do you ever catch small fish? I lucked up on a 4+ pound 22 inch smallie last month. Definitely my PB and just shy of my largemouth PB
Seagull on the spook for the outtakes posting.
Couldn't figure out if you were fishing for birds or bass😂😂
awesome fishin.
Great video man. :)
