Yes my desert rose was very large and all of a sudden it fell over. Many many caudex just wet and rotted. I have it set out to dry out. I will now start to cut off all the rotted trunk and caudex Thank you
Thank you for a very informative video. I have two huge desert roses (20-30yrs) and the caudex looks iffy on one. Would that be why its not a prolific bloomer?
Ooof... had a big chunk of the caudex rotten due to the wet season. Don't really want to cut it off. I guess I have to. -.- Also, I was surprised to the voice. Sounds like it doesn't belong to the face. 😅 Thanks for the vids.
Hello, very interesting video. I have cut my desert rose because the roots were rotten. Now I have three unrotten stems, I let them dry and now I'll put them into the soil. If I'm not using hormone, will I see results? Thanks
It’s very possible. I would dry it out first before you put in soil, then keep it in a warm dry spot. Don’t water it until it is very dry. Best of luck.
This is very informative, thank you. I just noticed a root rot in my grafted desert rose, I just didn’t know what to do. Now my question is, it’s January, but it’s indoors, shall I wash the roots first then dry prior to pruning?
I had lots of soft branches plus soft spots on root ball. I cut out all I could. This was I think from cold down to mid 30s but no freeze. Is it still a chance now ? Had for 20 years.
Hi, thank-you for your videos. I have only just recently started buying adeniums and I had to buy them from a different state because they don't have them here in Melbourne. So I asked for them to be sent out bare rooted. I have repotted them and finding that some are not doing too well. Some the leaves are yellowing and also look like brown marks on them too. I have not been overwatering them. Do you think they are just transplant shock? Do you recommend watering them with Epsom salt? I heard that it can help.
Hi yes seems like transplant shock but can’t say for sure. I would not worry about the leaves dropping, that is normal in climate change. If it is not too dry then I would wait a week before you start watering. Best of luck.
Great Video - Please can you make a video on how to save the plant if the leaves are starting to brown at the tips. I don't know what to do. I don't want it too die. I just bought it.
Hi Oren, thanks for the comment. I would try to identify the core issues. Not sure if you are in a colder climate right now but temperature changes along with over watering can cause issues. Let me know some environmental details and happy to help. Thanks
@@growinggreenthumbs7497 Thank you, I’m from South Africa, which is a warm to hot climate so we get a lot of rain in summer. So I have my plant under a cover. I watered once a week and also have it in potting soil

@@growinggreenthumbs7497 Same basic question: It's February 4th and I live in a cold winter area. My rose is inside until late spring. It has root rot in two of the above soil roots. I will pull the plant out of the soil and cut off the diseased roots. But then what should I do, just leave it out of soil to dry until spring, then trim back branches and repot in fresh pot and fresh soil mix?
I need help saving my desert rose please😢. I haven't came across any videos on how to save desert rose branches. My desert rose got soft from the branches down to the it's trunk. Yes I cut off the branches. Or any where that was soft. I sprinkle a generous amount of cinnamon. What should I do next? Am I able to save those desert rose? Please help😢
Thanks for your video. I cut off the rotted part of the caudex and it has been drying for 4 days. However, I am noticing that the caudex has become soft. Should I be concerned? Thanks.
Hi , it sounds like it may already been rotting too far already. If it is slightly soft that is normal as it dries. But if it is getting mushy then it may be too late.
Liked the video. Question...does it hurt the desert rose if I take it out of the pot because the caudex feels soft, but don't find any rot? Would I just re-plant?
Hello How long do you let the root dry before going into the soil. I keep using cinnamon and it just keeps creating fungus. I been working on 2 of them and they both keep creating fungus on the clean cuts. I've worked on 5 others that did not happen to them🤦♀️ I'm frustrated. Hope you can guide me
It certainly is trial and error but I would dry for longer. I have done even 3-4 weeks before potting. Just make sure you maintain light moisture in the soil and even let that dry out. Hope that helps and best of luck!
Hey Ana- if you cut the rot off- I find it does good to let the roots soak in 50/50 hydrogen peroxide for 30 minutes and then let let it dry for 2 weeks before trying to repot again. The peroxide will kill bacteria and helps the plant to heal much faster.

Hi, I got my desert rose from a garden centre where it's pot was constantly submerged in water, checked the roots but they're still white and firm but the trunk of the plant is squishy. Does this mean it's rotting or is there something else up with it?
Squishy caudex does necessarily mean rot. Caudex are like potatoes, if lacking water, they will start to shrink and shrivel up, hence a squishy caudex. Root rot is pretty noticeable, squishy caudex, with some water, will firm up quite quickly
If it is soft and wet or mushy then most likely over watering . If you decide to change the type of soil mix to have more drainage then your watering regiment could be fine. You just have to find the right combination.
If it is completely dry it could mean not enough water. In hot summer days if you check the soil down to the bottom and it is completely dry after watering the day before or if you watered that morning and by evening it is completely dry, you need to water more. Some days in the summer I water twice a day. Hope that helps!
Could be too much water. If the caudex is still firm but branches are soft, I would prune the branches a bit further back from the softest part to ensure you remove all of the rot.
@@growinggreenthumbs7497 Thank you so much for the information. I live in Florida and its very hot and rainy at this time so can I prune it now, since it is a large and old rose?
Hi I made a soil mix video if you want to search on my channel. For the soft roots, you can uproot from the soil and let it dry out for about a week. Then when you repot it, don’t water immediately. I would wait another week.
Oh such a cute guy! What an eye candy! Hehe. i have to cut my adenium from caudex and there's no root left now, will it still develop roots? and there's yellow leaves on plant should i cut stem or pluck all leaves? thank you!
Hi Jim, it depends on how high you cut. If you cut high enough with completely no roots at all, I’m afraid it will not develop any new ones as there is no way it can take in enough nutrients. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Sorry meant to add, it is possible if all conditions are right. I would leave the leaves be and only remove the ones that are yellow. Let it dry out a bit before you replant it. Also helps To add rooting hormone. Thanks
Very useful thank you. I was afraid cutting the roots off would let the plant die for sure. Let me get straight to work!

So once you plant it with the rooting hormone on it when would you starting giving fertilizer again
Not until you see strong rigorous growth. If you have good soil mix. It should be plenty for the first 6-8 months.

Mine just about died when i cut the branch off which was so high. I'm not sure why it did this.
Where can I find your soil mixture?
Hi it varies a lot by region but I do have a potting mix video on my channel that can give you some options in making your own.
