DISCLAIMERS ON FORMATS COVERED:
Notice I said POPULAR formats, meaning a format where there is a significant amount of people who compete in it for tournaments and so on and so forth.
For the record, I do not care what rules or formats people play their battles by nor am I saying these formats are the only formats that should be played. The way you play Pokemon is between you and your opponent. I just like examining popular tournament formats.

Raticate: 14 minutes
Tyranitar: 13 minutes
Man, this channel has come a long way
Ever since he started talking about the lower tiers, his channel has increased in quality. That is good because no one really cares about just ou.
Lol the updated video of Tyranitar would probably be like an hour or two.
Plus taking away the “How good was...” from the comments in the video so we can properly discuss the video is the icing on the cake. This channel is very good to it’s subs.
@@CarlosAlberto-nq3iv some lower tier mons are good. But the ones that just go to untiered... Common we only get a video a week. Sometimes two if we're lucky

"Tauros, who lacked Raticates power"

2 shows how underrated is Raticate.
3 both of them are faster than snorlax meaning they dont need as much of physical bulk of which Snorlax has little as well bc just 60 therefor both if them are better than snorlax.
Snorlax is just more popular because most people prefer bulk and has bigger role in the anime. Therefore its used a lot more. As simple as that.

Bruh bad puns alett :P
"Unless it gets a major boost in gen 8" yikes
I'm thinking whether we we will ever get a tier for currently untoered Pokémon. All of them need some love and respect!

The sheer irony from the phrase “Tauros lacked Raticates power...” when discussing gen 4. Sometimes the right combination of ability, moves, and stats just give you the right set of advantages to overtake a previous monster in a tier.
Like Tauros getting sheer force
dont sleep on the rat
“Raticate had a, if extremely marginal, niche in Gen 1 OU.” I can just see this small rat, which was created back when they expected you to abandon your early route Pokémon, going up to the crazy powerful Chaney, Taurus, and Snorlax saying, “Greetings fellow OU normal types.”
“How do you do, fellow kids”
I wouldn't say Ash was conned into the trade. The man he traded with was perfectly fine with giving Butterfree back and totally understood Ash's regret. We can't say the Raticate was awful either, as Ash never even tried to use it in battle.
The real problem was Brock. He got so horny over the guy's lady friend that he ended up encouraging the trade.
Yep Ash was always one to never try a new Pokémon
I agree, that gentlemen made a valid trade with Ash and was perfectly content with getting his raticate back from young Ash.

No, not an mega evolution for raticate, just ratata.
O
My raticate was the very first Pokémon I ever caught in my first game and I took it to the elite four, transferred it to gold and did it again.
In fact Raticate was such a favourite of mine that I have used it in a story play through in every generation that I could get it. It was the first Pokémon figure I bought from the original TOMY release and the plushie sits proudly on my shelf.
Sun and moon gave me a special opportunity to use 2 raticates in a play through and I have zero regrets
awe what's his/her name
Warms my heart to hear others loving their Raticate. I don't play the main games anymore but Pokémon Go has let me keep a shiny Raticate as a best buddy in my adult years. Raticate is a sweet blend of cool and cute and honestly has a nice and simplistic design that the newer generations had tended to lean away from. I'm tired of only "strong" Pokémon being considered "good" Pokémon :)

Always had a softspot for Raticate once I learned it had Flame Wheel. It was one of the first Pokemon that got me into competitive, and I have fond memories of pulling surprise sweeps with it on a few teams. To this day I do still slap it on a team from time to time, though it tends not to do great.
I was literally looking for this just the other day! 👌🌟
I've been waiting for this!
It’s improvements: MORE STATS IN ANYTHING!
I burst out laughing when Alolan Raticate’s stats were shown.

I got a jolly one when ev training named him Gordon Ratsay
8:50 imo, the final nail in the cofagrigus (I died when I heard that phrase btw 💀) would be Ursaring, who also had guts and close combat just like Zangoose (I mean technically zangoose had toxic boost but it’s the same thing) with a lot more power and also completely outclassed Raticate. Sad to see our bear friend not get mentioned. Maybe it’s not that good in NU
I love the intro music and how you put the comments on the screen
Thank you, I’ve been wanting you to do an early game mammal for ages.😁😁

Behold! A Gen 1 Pokémon that people still forget exists!
Interesting notes for 4th Gen Raticate to better explain it's power leap:
All it's natural moves are learned by Level 34 as a Rattata. This thing is so broken early on for its natural set it's ridiculous. In total, it gets Pursuit, Bite, Crunch, Sucker Punch, and Assurance for Dark Moves.
And barring Super and Hyper Fang coming relatively early, it also gets Double Edge, Quick Attack, and Endeavor, with Swords Dance getting move relearned for a Heart Scale.
All of that is not counting TMs and Breeding. By Arceus, why can't more Normal types get some better Ghost coverage like Raticate here? You'd be surprised how many Normal types *CANNOT* learn Shadow Claw compared to the other Types, Raticate included.
Don't forget it gets Flame Wheel as an egg move and Stomping Tantrum
Happy to see Raticate's video finally!
Something I'd like to point out about Ratticate in gen 1 is that it's the one and only fully evolved Normal type to learn Focus energy. What that means is that in pokemon Stadium (Focus energy works in Stadium) you can fire off STAB hyper beams with what was essentially a Swords dance up (no Normal types learn swords dance and hyper Beam besides Lickitung), In fact the crit from a level 100 pokemon is actually a bit More damage then with one Swords dance, and this crit boost also effects Ratticates special moves. If Focus energy worked properly on the Gameboy cartridges I bet Ratticate would have had real success in tournaments (And its even better in pokemon Green where Blizard had a 30% freeze chance and Ratticate is one of the fastest users of Blizzard) if Tauros gets a freeze it can't really capitalize on it, but Ratticate sure can by setting up. Pretty unique and innovative for the little rat 🐀
How good was Youngster Joey's Top Percentage Rattata really?
I always love when he gets to the Alolan forms.
"But with the Alolan form, this pokemon got new hopes!"
Yes! So, all that needed to happen for the pokemon to become useful was: It had to change its stats, its type, its move sets and its ability! X-D
“However that would not be the final nail in the Cofagrigus for Raticate.”
“It was never used in NeverUsed.”
Also, are we not going to talk about the fact that friggin Beedrill and Pidgeot got megas and Raticate didn’t?
The fact that they did receive megas while Raticate did not WAS briefly mentioned. However, it should only EVER be just briefly mentioned since it really didn't impact Raticate at all.
Matthew Kuscienko
The reason why I brought that up was because Pidgeot and Beedrill were already bad pokémon in their debut geneations and subsequently got worse overtime but had a mega to compensate, while Raticate didn’t get a mega or any other buffs that would have boosted its viability and instead got another useless regional form that was also bad.
@@matthewkuscienko4616 If that thing would got a mega it would be like close of a sweeper, but i think even more fragile
butterfree also got a g-max everthing is just leaving raticate out XD
@@allenkeettikkal3149.........I'm well aware of that. It was why I was not excited about Raticate's Alolan forme; it's bad while Pidgeot and Beedrill got powerful mega evolutions. Even then, though, it's still hardly worth mentioning since while it COULD have boosted it's viability, it also could still wind up being an underwhelming mega evolution; Pokemon like Blastoise and Absol (as much as I hate to say it in the latter's case) are pretty good examples of this.
I like how the gen 5 segment was essentially just a mini-clip of "How Good Was Zangoose Actually?".
