Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2010
- A popular song of the day composed by Stephen Foster in 1854. It is still seen in media even today. Popular movies and cartoon characters, such as Bugs Bunny have sung this song.
this was one of the first songs written that was intended for amateurs and professionals for singing along with the sheet music.
Foster allegedly wrote this song for his wife, Jennie, from whom he was separated in an attempt to woe her back.
This is by no means an intended copyright.
lyrics:
I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Borne, like a vapor on the summer air,
I see her tripping where the bright streams play,
Happy as the daisies that dance on her way
Many were the wild notes her merry voice would pour
Many were the blithe birds that warbled them o'er
Oh I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair,
Floating like a vapor on the soft summer air!
When I was a little girl, I really used to think this song was about my mother - whose name was Jeanne, and who did have light brown hair! Six years ago today, we played it at her funeral. Such a beautiful song.
❤❤❤❤
My late wife was a Jeanie with lovely hair, Also beautiful eyes ,Still miss her after all these years. To hear it again brings back lots memories.
My grandfather, an organist, used to sing this for me when I was a little girl. My middle name is Jean, and my hair was light brown.
Arwen Rice that deserves a thumbs up. Because why not?
Was light brown? Did you dye your hair
Nam Pham It could've turned grey too
Arwen Rice awwww that's so adorable
@@ImprovSpeech light brown hair can turn dirty blonde or dark brown
My incredible grandfather used to sing this to me, I listen to it on days when I'm really missing him and it makes me smile.
Hey, it's a wonderful way we can stay forever with our grandkids 😉❤
only kids from the 1800's will understand
chloe lol

I was born in 1821
Woke up and suddenly thought of this ditty my mum, Jean, used to sing....and here it is, and for the first time I know more than the first line.
Jeanie with the light brown hair anime brought me here. I really love old stuffs like this song. They always brings tears to my eyes.. Memories from the past played again on my mind. This makes me appreciate life more about how long I lived to this day. Even though I can never return to those days, but at least in my mind they keep living.
Same here. I missed the anime a lot. It brings me back to the atmosphere of the anime. All the surroundings and even the lights. It made me cry :'-)

My Gram used to sing this to me while rocking me to sleep. You just can't duplicate that feeling now like all was right with the world. Thanks for sharing!
Agree with you 💔 i have dozens of beautiful beautiful songs i learned from BOTH my parents and also, especially, from my beloved grandmother xx. Plus i have 2 most lovely granddaughters who so LOVE singing and all things musical ... And yet... And yet.. I am not allowed sing for them or teach them any songs or how to play any of thr musical instruments i play.. My house is choc-a-bloc with music books of all kinds but i am not permitted to kindle their interest in anything other than what they are already interested in. There is no transfer of learning from my generation to theirs. I am 65; they are age 8 and 5. My daughter (their mother) has put down her foot about this many times, my heart is broken beyond belief. Yes, beyond belief. I don't understand her reasons i really don't. If i don't keep quiet i won't get to see them atal. 🙏🏼

My. favorite song
This music was the best, I wish people from my generation could appreciate this
Said to have been part inspiration for the TV show "I Dream of Jeannie" along with the movie "Brass Bottle".
Ho 36 anni e ho qst melodia in testa da quando ero bambina, per via di qualche cartone o film sulla guerra di civile americana. Stanotte ho finalmente dato un titolo e un testo ad una melodia che spesso mi risuona nella testa... Grazie internet!!!!
Thank you @silverdog09 for posting, and thank you all for your kind words. The recording was made for the 6th edition of the Norton Recorded Anthology of Western Music, with Yonit Kosovske on the fortepiano.
I really love this song!!
Not only do I now understand the elusive self-reference line “Genie with the light brown hair!” from Aladdin, I also discovered that the title of the smash-hit 1960s TV show is also a reference
Love this song and old.folk music. Just remember a more upbeat version. My grandmother used to sing "Down by the Old Mill Stream" and we had a little music box in the shape of an actual mill where the wheel actually turned when it played.
Love that old style singing and melody
I think I heard this on a Bugs Bunny cartoon or something when he was pretending to be a genie while singing this song.
I LIKE 1830'S TO 1890'S SONGs

My papá (grandfather) often sang parlor music like this, and other old fashioned songs. My granny would accompany him with her beautiful piano playing. He was a baritone, but regardless, performances like this remind me of them. Thanks 🙂
The singer is Thomas Hampson and it comes from a CD entitled American Dreamer: The Songs of Stephen Foster,
Such a beautiful version of the song. Too bad he lost his gurl.
A lovely song my beloved father used to sing to me as a child
I found a minstrel shows record in my grandfathers house, and this song was on it
I Love this Song. Back when Beautiful Songs were being written before every Song started becoming Breakup Songs of Today.
i came here by myself.
martinakizZz I came here from a book called my secret war
what's the story? :p
I was introduced to german marshes in 2010 which lead me somehow to the confederates, which refers a little to Stephen Foster, who wrote Oh! Susannah and finally I found this just at the same time I adored "Beautiful Dreamer". That's the brief version of my story.

Woah, that's beautiful.
I love this song. Dont know why, its just classic and classyc at the same time
"My Old Kentucky Home" is also penned by Stephen Foster and is sung during the post parade every year at the Kentucky Derby. It's a beautiful song.
My favorite version, hands down. Too bad nobody seems to know who the singer is... and it's not even complete.
Thanks ***** for your compliments. The longer, 3-verse version we recorded (with Yonit Kosovske, fortepiano) can be heard in full on the Norton Recorded Anthology 6th or 7th eds. or on my website Wolodymyr Smishkewych dot com. Thanks again!

Wow, thank you sir! I didn't expect to get a response from the man, himself. Best wishes to you and your music!
Well actually there was a very similar singer on The Daily Service Singers who had a lead part in "O love that wilt not let me go".
My fav isn't on youtube it's the cover from the "a complete authentic minstrel show" record
Oh the melody of Foster's song.
I long for Jeannie with the day dawn smile
Radiant in gladness, warm with winning guile
I hear her melodies, like joys gone by
Sighing round my heart o'er the fond hopes that die
Sighing like the night wind and sobbing like the rain
Wailing for the lost one that comes not again
Oh! I long for Jeannie, and my heart bows low
Never more to find her where the bright waters flow
i love it..... its already 2011, so what?! i just saw jeanie with the light brown hair anime and i searched it and its a true story!!! i love it!!! i love mr. foster! he's great...

So beautiful!
You can look for the composer's other pieces. Also, it;s part of what's called Parlor songs. That should bring something up online.
und her native glade;
Her smiles have vanished and her sweet songs flown
Flitting like the dreams that have cheered us and gone.
Now the nodding wild flow'rs may wither on the shore,
While her gentle fingers will cull them no more;
I dream of Jeannie with the light brown hair
Floating like a vapor on the soft, summer air.

You are the woman of Stephen Foster's dreams.
It is such a good performance! Could somebody tell me the name of the singer?
WATCH IT BUB!
I'm fairly sure this is off Swanee: The Music of Stephen Foster - I think it's Tim O'Brien singing. I could be wrong but I think this is the case.

@HonoraryCheesehead gracias!
I know it's getting old, but -- Monty Python brought me here!
I wonder if this is the origin of the title of the show "I Dream of Genie".
As I was brought here by Hideyuki Kikuchi... for some reason, he wanted this mentioned in his books.
Who are the singer and pianist in this recording?

I bet Abe Lincoln listened to this with the boys.
