The new R badge is much worse in my opinion and they should have left it alone. I also can't believe they switched to a prop rod for the hood and removed the R badge from the engine cover. But my biggest complaint is the lack of colour choices on the R. Silver is obviously my favourite but how can they not offer red like the GTI? For me the only colour option available now is blue because I'm not a fan of white or black. And the white is a flat white and not even pearl or metallic. Anyway, having said all that I am more impressed with the facelift on the 2025 refresh and I think it is definitely improved. Those new wheels are amazing as well. My car is 8 years old now so I'm definitely thinking about getting a MK8.5 eventually. And for those manual transmission fans, I drove a manual for many years but my Golf R has the DSG and it is very good and I don't miss the manual at all. But I prefer to shift myself with the paddles because I'm not a fan of the VW transmission software. Regular D mode shifts too early and S mode wants to redline all the time. Hopefully the MK8 addressed that with a medium setting. I'm also excited for the memory seat option because my MK7 does not have that and I share the car with my wife who is 8" shorter than I am. I'm anxious to see exactly what options we are getting for North America and hopefully the price doesn't go up too much.

Overall this is a great car. BUT they have to stop with the touch capacitive crap. I would genuinely consider adding this car to my garage, but those controls are horrible. I want to have this along side my CTR, but I can't get over those controls. In fact, I just bought a new Tiguan and specifically went with the Wolfsburg edition for the manual HVAC controls and steering wheel controls. IF the R-Line had those controls I would have bought the top-level trim. You can't use any of these controls in the winter with gloves and they are a pain when you touch the steering wheel and change something you never meant to change.
I would like to know if all leather seats are available. If this is a sporty hatch that is also supposed to be practical for small families then we need leather seats so our kids don't ruin them.
Their manuals were very good. The shifter clutch combo might not be ideal for a track weapon but was very fun and easy to use when driving around town.

Love it. Just a great car; fun to drive, small but practical... what's not to like here?
lack of a manual. That's what.
the 2025 models have better palm rejection on the steering wheel
So is this the official NA 8.5 release?
Here to check if they fixed the steering wheel… lol
If you mean physical buttons, then no.
Offered in only blue, black and white…way to cater to boring people, I do not understand why VW refuses to make any fun decisions
BORING is VW's hallmark, it's what they do.
Hey Mann, you didn’t mention the sound system. Does it come with the Fender, or B&O?
Harmon Kardon the last time I checked. Their Fender contract expired and VW never had one with B&O. Unfortunate, and audiophile sound system is not offered. Their premium Harmon Kardon is as good as it gets.
Why not fogg lights?....all sports models now dosen t have fogg lights....i don t get it why?....it looks better and also helps a lot during fogg nd nights....sports vehicule dosen t run when is foggie outside?....really strange this decission for all manufacturers, not only VW
That is the titanium exhaust unless they are changing them for USA
No Manual ?!?! What a shame
Get 'em while you can! There are still 2024 380s on dealer lots. As an owner of one myself, I highly recommend it.
Despite reviewer opinion, nobody buys manuals anymore.
They discontinued the manual because of Euro emissions regulations. Same for the GTI.
@@peteyification I own a 2011 gti stick with 160k miles . It still feels like new to me .. I’m gonna hold onto it for another 20 years .
Stick shift is slow
Weird comment about the center armrest finally "opening up" when it literally has been openable for the past 6 years or so.
i prefer the cupra version of this, the formentor VZ especially, in extreme trim
why formentor? Golf R is Cart, Formentor is an SUV.
How is it unrivaled when it always loses every comparison test with the Civic Type R? Faster in a straight line, sure, but that's about it.
His bias is showing
As a street car it destroys the Type R in every way.
Overpriced and no manual transmission that’s a nope from me. Gr Corolla it is.
Is it a Euro spec model?
Interior is still such a fail. I cant do it :(
When it’s coming to Canada the black edition
the wheels scream give me money…. scary… one pothole will surely send you to car maintenance 😂😂
Solution: don't hit the pothole.
19's are small wheels in today's standards. Those aren't even really considered low profile tires anymore.
It needs a VR6 💙 😊
The steep price, and no 3 doors option, are complete deal breakers for me.
“Drives one for a week” “Fan of the Golf R” Doesn’t know the exhaust is not stock lol
I cant wait until these big screens go away
Well - these cars are going away - this is the last ICE Golf R... next will be even more digital -
Overpriced plastic JUNK. The VR6 in the R32 was the last true R-LINE Golf.
70-80 K Porsches have 4 cylinder engines and you expect a Golf to still come with a VR6 engine?.
@@oemj7147 If you buy a 4 Cylinder Porsche, than you're a complete idiot lol simple as that.
I would like to know if all leather seats are available. If this is a sporty hatch that is also supposed to be practical for small families then we need leather seats so our kids don't ruin them.
I'd bet that leather seats will likely be the only available seating surface for the U.S. market, just like previous Golf Rs sold in the U.S.
The Golf R Compared with Toyota GR Supra
Lets be honest, VW manual's were never "beloved". Vague and rubbery isn't going to be all that missed.
Their manuals were very good. The shifter clutch combo might not be ideal for a track weapon but was very fun and easy to use when driving around town.
No fog lights?! Cmon, my mk4 gti vr6 came with fog lights
This will be a sub 4 second to 60 car.
I think the GTI looks better and has actual buttons on the steering wheel.
Which is why they sell both.
The GTI wheels looks nicer lol
