Great video! I transplanted the variety TALL TELEPHONE PEA out in my garden for the first time. I can't wait to see how well they perform in southeast Georgia. Keeping my finger crossed.
Those peas look yummy. Growing them (Oregon Sugar Pod II) for the 1st time this year. I'm already behind in starting them here in Zone 6 on 4 May ..... ouch😂Better late than never I guess🙃😛I hope 2023 treats you and your garden very well .... take care🍅🥔🥕🌽🌶🫑🥒🥦🧄🧅
Ive been watching your videos and love the one on sugar snap peas. Yours was very easy to follow and answered a lot of questions I had from other growers. I am still curious as to when you you said to check and make sure you are not eating the hover fly eggs they lay inside the pods. You show cooking with the pods whole in some dishes. How can we tell if there are eggs inside the if we cook or freeze them whole? thank you!
You should be fine just adding compost for spring veggies like peas and spinach. However, over the years, I have learned my tomatoes and peppers do better when I also add a new batch of mix to the square. I guess because those plants stay in my garden for almost 6 months, versus my spring crops are a shorter season. Refer to my How to Plant Peppers in a SFG for more info. Happy Gardening!
Do you net your square foot of pea plants? I recently found a dead blackbird inside my netter pea bed and I am looking for a way to grow peas without harming wildlife ever again. Maybe a netted square foot would be safer as birds would not try to enter the netted area?
I do not use bird netting over my plants anymore because sometimes the little birds can find their way under and up into the netting, trapping them. I like to use a mosquito net for a cover as shown in this video towards the end: ua-cam.com/video/HRFlGXCwaU4/v-deo.html You can find the net on my Amazon store ( I am an affiliate): www.amazon.com/shop/rainbowgardens
@@RainbowGardens - thank you for your reply. I recently found a dead blackbird under my netting and vow to never use netting ever again. No crop is worth the life of another animal.
I look forward to your videos every Spring. They let me know that I need to get started in my 6a/5b garden ;)

I look for the Hover Fly in the garden and blemishes in the pods. You will see a hole if the pod has been disturbed.
Do I need to add a new batch of soil mix to my 4x4 raised beds that were made in 2019? Or just add compost as I plant?
