My grandfather removed and reversed all the siding on his house in the 1970s! The house was built in the 1940’s. He got another 30+ years out of it. He passed away before it ever needed changing.

I grew up in a farm house that was built in 1870 and we would get these flies every spring. My dad called them shingle flies because the flies would over winter under the cedar shingles on the house. I just call them house flies. No matter what you call them they are just a pain to deal with.

  • @eightiesallen3180

You could remove and reverse the floor, but you would need some specific tools, like a nice table saw, a router table, and a planer. As you probably already know, in the US you can get old recycled wood like that, just not as old, which has been refurbished for just such a purpose. So, although that floor is more than likely tongue in groove, with a proper router table, you could still make it tongue in groove after refurbing the pieces with a table saw and a nice planer. 🤔 I'm sure Lincoln totally supports me on this ..... 🤣

Was nice to see the group of deer, they clearly feel safe on your land. I would really struggle with the concept of hunters allowing their dogs to run free like that. I know boar was a nuisance, invasive animal and people like to eat them, but is there not a better way? I’d worry about them getting your animals. As far as prices, it’s refreshing to see a frugal yet beautiful renovation approach.

My previous home was a craftsman style built in 1915 with a 25' long front porch with clear Douglas Fir tongue and groove wood that was badly weather damaged. I discovered that when the house was built they floored the crawl spaces at four corners of the second floor with this same type wood and it was pristine as the spaces had been sealed for 55 years. I was in there to insulate so ended up removing the floor before insulating between the joists, and it gave me enough "new" wood to replace the entire porch!

Hi Amanda and Lincoln, how long is hunting season in France? it seems you always have them around. I can't stand it, sorry hunters, but killing for sport is just so cruel, and you can get meat from the store from already murdered animals. Thank you for your compassion. I am looking forward to the cottage reno, the floor did look really nice from the underside. Love our Brocante outings. Love from N.Y.

It is 5/6 months long, from mid September till end of February. Not all hunters are the same : some are nice people with whom you can speak about your concerns and who are respectful ; some others are really stubborn, and to try to make them understand your point of view can be challenging…

I just don't know what to say. In general I say that I love you and love everything you do. Specially attention to details. Can't wait for next episode.
