WARNING Thanks to @blackhat4206 , my interpretation of Aura of Hate is incorrect. It works only on meele WEAPON attacks, so it could work on very limited type of units. BUILD is uneffected by this, but just keep in mind
Comment unrelated to video. Just lost an honor mode run. After letting the emperor consume Orpheus he didn't open the portal, didn't have a talk option or anything else. Shoved him to try and force dialogue and he turned on me, instant loss.
It might be possible to get up to 26 charisma if you get your main stat to 20, equip the hat called Birthright for 22, then get the plus 2 from the Mirror of Loss, then if you equip Duke Ravenguard's Longsword you might get 26 since it supposedly has no cap to its increase like the other two do.
I'd even call it "broken" with the right build. I played a 6 Warlock (Old One) 6 Fighter (Champion), dual-wielding, with +1 to crit everywhere I could get it plus Savage Attacker (so +1 from champion, off-hand, bow, helmet, maybe one other I'm forgetting). On tactician that's 3 attacks (or more with haste!) with 4+ crit off the better of two rolls each attack. Fear was almost guaranteed to proc at least once every turn, and with 20 CHA (I'm pretty confident the Warlock proc uses it for saves), I could lock down anything that wasn't immune to fear. In the Orin duel on tactician she didn't even get in an attack. I'd move in, chop at her and proc fear, then move away. She was locked in place, so there was nothing for her to do. Move back in and repeat. I expect results would be similar with just 2 attacks on Honour Mode, though enemy resists might be stronger. Extra-nice thing about almost any 6-fighter build is how easy it is to get in 3 feats!
For a Pal9/Warlock3 spread , I recommend the healing/radiant version. Luminous armor, reviving hands, devotees mace, whispering promise. You have 2 healing auras and Warden of Vitality to keep everyone healed, blade warded and blessed. Oath of Ancients gives you the extra healing, but the other subclasses are viable too. You give up the melee tankiness but you make everyone in your party a tank, especially good if you utilise summons.
I was trying to cook up something for an evil playthrough and didnt know about the Oathbreaker Paladin having that aura that helps the undead so I might have to go back to the drawing board lol. Originally I was thinking something like 3 levels into Battle Master Fighter so I can trip attack and make people prone which would give the zombies from 9 levels in Necromancer Wizard advantage on their attacks. Edit: If only we could get 1 more level lol. 7 Oathbreaker Paladin and 6 Necro Wizard would be very strong.
Yeah :) Just don't go solo, or if you kinda wish "solo" it, use wizard(necro) to concentrate on invisibility, stay outside hiden etc. while you roaming with undeads in fight.
ACTUALLY NVM, Just tested, i treated it wrong always. This build is still kinda uneffected, but this aura works only on weapon attacks, so you need some undeads with meele weapons, and there is almost none of them.
@@TheSpudKing What ones are there? It seems only skeletons have bows but those arent melee weapons. Do the reanimated zombies from spore druid reanimate with their weapons?
Aura of Hate doesn’t increase the damage of your undead, since most undead don’t make melee weapon attacks and rely on unarmed instead. Maybe skeletons get the boost on their ranger attacks?
@TheSpudKing It should affect your zombies, imo. It's unfortunate that it only buffs undead that make melee weapon attacks at this time. Maybe they'll change that in the future. I just checked, and the Cambion summon from Planar Ally is the only summon available to the player that can benefit from Aura of Hate at this time.
Aura of Hate probably doesnt effect the skeletons (but it would be nice if it did) since they use ranged attacks and it specifies melee weapon attacks.
@@autisonm It doesn’t. I looked it up after making this comment. Apparently the only summon that is affected by aura of hate is the cambion from Planar Ally, which is the worst Planar Ally summon available, in my opinion.
Also, while this DOES NOT work in Honour Mode, in other difficulty settings going 5 pal, 5 Warlock stacks Extra Attack with Deepened Pact, which gives you 3 attacks per turn (though you'll be limited to 2 feats)
@@shyamsundarrajan2469 Not in Honour mode, no. I haven't tested but according to internet posts it still stacks in Tactician. (Honestly it's a bit OP, so it wouldn't hurt to nerf it. I just read they haven't.)
Ok, if you really really want to use that crippled build (basically paladin/warlock without third attack from pact is not that strong), you can. But in this case you need to choose what you want to do as a paladin/oathbreaker and most of the time you will answered - dealing damage. For this case your need to use two handed weapons, style and feat, use strength potion (you absolutely not want to miss without third attack),and try to increase crit chance, even a little bit(use longbow and helm at least). If you really build him properly, he will deal at least 150-200 damage in turn. Not in the line with really strong damage dealers, but at least something.
@@TheSpudKing What are you talking about? Great weapon master feat can give a third attack with bonus action (in case of crit or killing someone). Because of this I suggest to take it and utilise it. Two handed style will increase damage with basic attacks and smites, and by using elixir (+8 to attack/damage eventually) and darkness we can reliably hit things.
It's a freaking high charisma paladin. It can reliably hit things with permanent advantage (risky ring or automaton gloves), all the while giving everyone in the vicinity a bonus of 5 to 7 in all saving throws. Honour mode is not all about burst, all it takes is a critically bad rng first round in a crucial fight and your run is over. I'll take doing 200 instead of 300 damage on a nova round if means no one near.me is ever getting CC'd in Honour.
@@user-wv8yk3xu4h Why use risky ring on paladin (vengeance is already have advantage on everything)? Better to use it on ranged damage dealer. And of course honour mode is not only burst - so I recommend you use fighter 2/paladin 2/bard8(sword) instead - with that build you can be melee/ranged damage dealer (with better bursts damage than paladin/warlock)and CC anyone in the game. Much more useful, no matter if you are solo or playing with party.
@@KirDmAVengeance only gets advantage against ONE enemy for 10 turns, once per short rest. Not nearly as good as the item buff. Honour mode Bardadin for me is 2 / 8 / 2 Divination wizard. Portent dice, a deva, a myrmidon, lvl6 spell slot ( Globe of Invul ) , ability to cast Hold Monster and spell versatility because you can cast the summons and then switch the summoning spells out of your wizard spellbook while the pets stay. This setup beats Honour mode gimped Action Surge 9 times put of 10.
Dual-wield warlock can be surprisingly good, too. Pact of the Blade only puts CHA on your main hand, so for much of the game you use off-hand with dex (there are some weapons that use your casting proficiency by default to put there late in the game). But off-hand is mostlly just a stat stick anyway - get Knife of the Mountain King early and leave it there for almost the entire game for a +1 to crit chance. Add Savage Attacker feat and you'll crit to proc GOO fear a lot, even by mid-game (resists in honour might be stronger than what I saw in tactician, though). You'll probably also want Dual Wielder feat to put something more hefty in your main hand. Though for this WAR/PAL mix I'd probably go Great Weapons, too.
If you simply use strength elixir you will be using strength for attack and damage with all finesse weapons. And believe me, +8 modifiers from ultimate elixir is much better than +6 or +7(with silly hat) from charisma. And working for off-hand attacks.
