The Nostalgia Critic should include this ending if he ever does another Top 11 Saddest Moments list. I mean, my god, despite that it's generally a happy ending, it's almost like they're trying hard to make U cry! :-(
I liked this movie a lot as a child. All the characters were original. Eventhough the candy heart scene scared me a little--I thought the blob was going to use those scissors to really cut out Ann's heart! And I couldn't understand why Babette would want to be with that pirate... Still those twins were so cute and I like how the movie is live action and animation. Plus, the camel gets adopted in the end--how sweet! Thanks for posting the film.
This movie is actually much more important than you think. Richard Williams was leading animator and he went on to animate Who Framed Roger Rabbit the success gave Hollywood more faith in animation giving them a much higher budget which paved way for the Disney princess franchise the Simpsons and countless other works of animation.
It's amazing what the memory can do. I could have sworn that at the end of this movie she finds him outside amidst fallen leaves? Am I thinking of a different movie perhaps? Keep in mind I was around 2-4 when I last saw this and I'm 26 now. One of my earliest memories was when they meet that sweetie monster.
This whole movie is like a collective of all the trips and freakouts from all the drugs shot up, smoked, etc. from the 1970's all rolled up into an hour and a half of non-stop mind fucking. The Greedy? Loony Land? The Pirates? All of these things seem like a acid-dropping, pot-smoking, heroine-shooting alchoholics wet-dream come true! :^\
@wsbtam 20th century fox COMPLETELY abandoned the film. the only way too see it on DVD is one the 16 DVD box set of Garret Gilchrist The Thief and the Cobbler, reccobled cut.
every time I see Marcela hug the Camel at the end, I always start crying, when I was a kid I was like "yay now he wont be alone anymore"
I cried too. It's ok. Only real men cry - and the best of them have the nuts to admit it :)

I found out about this movie through the Nostalgic Critic. This is so adorable and very sweet. Not to mention the animation is absolutely incredible
Maybe if they reviewed the script without drugs it could have been better without the....other weirdness

This is one of the less well known but most sad moments in animated film history. Maybe that's part of what makes it sad...it's genuine.

I don't think this ending is sad, It's rather happy actually. The Camel finally has a home, and Marcella has yet another new toy to call her own.
