Tostones [Green Fried Plantains] with Crushed Garlic Oil
Вставка

- Tostones [Fried Green Plantains] is a national treasure in the Caribbean! I serve mine with potent crushed garlic oil that gives these tostones a little bite! You'll find plantains all over the Caribbean and are either picked when they're green and full of starch or allowed to ripen creating the most delectable sweet plantains (platano maduros) which are my favorite! These twice-fried plantains are a little labor-intensive and time-consuming; however, the result is worth the effort! Plantains can be found in most supermarkets, but if it's hard to find, you can always find it in Hispanic grocery stores. Make it Sabroso! Tasty! Yummy! Savory!

I feel very fancy now. Mmmm, Tasty!
I never had these until fairly recently. They are fantastic the plantain has a tangy enzyme that makes these very delicious. I sprinkle Citrus Adobo seasoning on them after with some garlic powder and they are little jewels.
@Orion88 Yes they are heavenly! My family can eat them everyday (while I can eat the sweet ones everyday) 😆 Thanks for watching!

Love tostones videos, this is 2nd x, I see someone put plantains in water, why? I usually put them to fry, right after I peel/cut them, love that sauce, will try it, TY for posting.
If you’re not frying right away, it’s good to put it in water so it doesn’t oxidize. Also, I find they come out crispier when they soak in water. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾
@@Sabrosollc hmmm, mines come out crispy, but next time, I'll put them in water, TY again.
Wow tasty
Thanks a lot
Bro those were next level tosotones 😮

This is really easy! Thanks for sharing. However, I had no idea about the garlic oil. Will that work with plantains on the sweeter side? The first time I ate a plantain was when we were told how to cook them by my sister in law, who is Cruzan, when we visited St. Croix several years ago. They were excellent. Sadly, last weekend was the first time I'd seen a proper plantain in the grocery store. I had a guy from Jamaica test me to see if I knew how to cook them, and then he gave us some tips. It was like we were instant friends, talking and laughing in the store.
If there was ever a time when I had proof that food can bring cultures together, that was it. Of course, the walls started to come down as soon as he learned by sis in law is Cruzan.
Love that story! I never tried it with sweet plantains but I’m sure it would be just as good. Thanks for watching
Te hace falta una tostonera chef. Looks delish!
Haha ya tengo una pero qua do hice el vídeo se me rompió el viejo 😂 Gracias🙏🏾
@@Sabrosollc Oops! Quisas no preste atencion. 😅
Sabroso
@LazaroCedeno Thank you so much for watching and making this recipe yourself! I’m glad you liked it!
Thank You I knew I was getting my steps backwards
Glad I can help! 😊
@@Sabrosollc Iam looking at your channel so you have one for sweet Plantine when I cook it doesn’t tast sweet an do wait for skin to be dark?
Yes the more black on the skin the sweeter it will be. For me…the best ones are 50/50 yellow and black. I like them sweet but still have texture
So what does putting them in salted water do?
Flavors the tostones and helps keep them from turning brown (if holding them in water for more than a few minutes). Thanks for watching! 🙏🏾
I like mine a little thicker, not so flat.
Sounds good 👍🏽
hello thank you for the video. whats the reason to put the plantains in salt water? is it just so that they dont oxidase?
@Handofseeds Great Question! Yes, it does help with oxidation (they turn brown quickly) but it also makes the tostones crispier! Thanks for watching!
@@Sabrosollc Thank you for the answer. I made these tonight and kids loved them. Thank you for the video you did a great job.
@Handsofseeds That’s awesome! You know kids are the toughest critics so if they liked them you know you did a good job! 😂 Appreciate the kind words!
🤝🏾💯🖤💪🏾
Thanks for watching!
Why do you soak them in salted water? Great video thanks!
Hey @ForestGreen It’s two-fold 1) To keep it from oxidizing 2) It makes the tostones crispier. Thanks for watching!
@@Sabrosollc Thanks!
Which is your favorite? Tostones [Fried Green Plantains] or Platanos Maduros [Sweet Plantains]
My favorite is tostones, but maduros are awesome too!
@@cynthiasanchez2487 Yeah I can eat maduros everyday...literally!! 😂
It’s like asking me to pick a favorite child! I love them both 😍😭
@@rachelmojica5833 so true! 😂
I LIKE THEM BOTH, THE YELLOW ONES, NOT SO SWEET...I PREFER TO ENJOY THEM RIGHT AFTER THEY TURN YELLOW IN COLOR (I BUY THEM GREEN, THEN ALLOW THEM TO RIPEN)
NO PREFERENCE IN WHICH ONE, I ENJOY THEM BOTH!!!
Can I use olive oil ?
@KaterinaL if you’re talking about the garlic oil…Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
Why do mine fall apart when I press them?
Sounds like you didn’t fry them long enough before pressing them. I usually fry about 3-4 minutes per side. Hope this helps.
@@Sabrosollc Thanks!!
Why do you use green plantains? The other videos I have seen use yellow very ripened plaintains. Is there a reason for this?
Hi @LynnCarol thanks for watching! If you’re making Tostones it’s only made with the green plantains. The yellow
Plantains are sweet and softer. Tostones are smashed green plantains that are twice-fried resulting in a very crispy product. Hope this helps!
Why are you putting them in salted water?
@LynnCarol Placing the green plantains in salted water helps them from turning brown (they oxidize very quickly) and it also gives the Tostones a crispy texture.
Very good, how long would you leave them soak in salt water
Just until you’re ready to fry them. It keeps them from oxidizing and provides an extra crispy tostón 👍🏽
@@Sabrosollc cool thank you,,, beautiful touch with the oil garlic I will be making it by the bucket 👍🤣
@seamusog100 Great idea 😀
What's with the awful noise you think is Music?
I don’t even know how to interpret this! What I do know is that it doesn’t deserve a response (other than that which I’ve already wrote) 😒
Good ingredients horrible choice of oil try avocado oil do your research on canola oil please .
I’ll look into it! Thanks for watching 🙏🏾
Lost me with the oregano and pepper flakes.
To each his own 😀 but it smacks 😊
