- Private security officers are seen throughout the valley keeping an eye on local casinos, hotels, and businesses. These officers are often wearing heavy-duty uniforms however, changes could come to how they look.
From every picture shown it looked like they had markings saying security all over their shirts.
Recently as of last week one of my officers called 911 for backup for a suspect that was threatening to kill someone on property we patrol, they never showed up at all so we had to handle the situation ourselves
Exactly 💯 had the same thing happen I switched from motel security to working Event Security police work at all the events we do all over the valley
The uniform or shirt guards/security wear wouldn't stop you from handling a situation.. it will stop security from trying to look like cops or give the false narrative they are police ..

There’s been countless times where me and my units arrive on scene of a violent on going crime and police will take upwards of 30 minutes or more to respond and they usually end up doing nothing but letting criminals walk free.
Well your not the police so you don't get to decide if someone goes to jail.

@@gardennovice7896 Observe and report is not law, its policy coined by companies too cheap and lazy to properly train their guards. There are plenty of companies and sites that are not observe and report, where guards are encouraged to or even expected to go hands on when needed.

Let the Security Officers wear black or blue uniforms since the local police takes about 15 minutes for them to arrive for any incident. If security uniform colors get changed to SMURF colors the command presence will be lost and the police department will now have more calls to respond too.

Facts our uniform doesn't look like police but I've seen police wear the same color as ours after they made this to change our uniforms we wear Blue n black polo security shirts black or tan slacks black shoes Black undershirt I've seen local police wear similar shirts I know other security companies that wear similar shirts such as Allied Transit Security we are pried group llc we also work with ISPA security and Vet Sec Protection Agentcy i also work with Arizona React First Security we wear black polo security shirts army green slacks and security vest my future goals get Bail Enforcement Agent license and start my own Security and Bail enforcement agent business or expand the family business

It's called people need to learn to read... I work for one of the larger private security companies in Vegas. Our uniforms CLEARLY state SECURITY all over. Sure, from a distance, I could be confused as a LEO. But, that appearance helps with de-escalation. We look like we can stop you if you don't comply to state/federal laws as well as property policies. I can't count how many times I've been complimented by Metro on how professional the uniform looks.
Metro keep your eyes on the mission not the people in uniform doing there jobs. This should not even be an issue. A professional look is what deter some criminal offenders. I have personally seen how these security teams operate up close and I can see they are very much professional in the environment that they are working in. You’re dealing with a highly intoxicated individuals at times so a hard, professional uniform would help change the focus of some criminal behavior. It doesn’t matter if they went to pink shirts and yellow pants. Once they see that patch in Badge general public still gets confuse.

You wear what your company that hires you to wear via protocol. We are meant to deter, and be seen. We are trained never to wear a State seal, nor ever impersonate and have stringent rules about what we wear patch wise and company wise. The fact anyone is even trying this is abhorrent and naive. This is ridiculous. It’s like they want people to not see us, and not take us seriously. That’s not how this works. These fools need to take the 40hr class, and then G class, and then learn the difference between guards, security officers, security specialists, and so on before questioning and dictating what we wear and why for each unique situation. Why don’t these fools go bother the criminals on the street instead of mess with something that shouldn’t be messed with in the first place. Shame on whoever started this crapshoot. Put them on night watch in a hospital, or plant, or something dark and dangerous and they will quickly learn why uniforms, and safety gear is important. Plus the pay to strip us of our tools which includes uniforms isn’t enough. What we need is more protection, and pay. And how about some damn respect!

Exactly! I'm no fan of Arcadia but they have a patch that CLEARLY says "ARCADIA SECURITY" on the back. You literally cannot miss it. It's huge.

Private security's rights are:
-the rights of a private individual minus activities prohibited by the security license (such as being armed on duty when only class D)
-the rights and responsibilities of the business/property owner that the owner chooses to allow and have security enforce while on the property.
You don't need to have extensive training to understand this criteria and you typically aren't being called upon to enforce the "laws of the land". The closest you get to "policing" is usually verbally warning someone they need to leave the premises or acting to defend yourself/others in the event of violence. Anything beyond this is typically beyond the scope of security work.
A long time ago police complained about guard uniforms. The legislature wrote a law that said guard uniforms can't look like police uniforms. In my state, the state police regulate guard agency & guard licenses. So the guard uniform is approved by the state before the agency licenses is issued. I have no problem with this. I don't need to look like a cop to do my job. The best deterrent I have, is the firearm I carry. I like not having a police style badge or patch. I like letting the public know I'm just a guard & if you cooperate with me you might not go to jail. For the uncooperative I have OC spray, which I use early & often. My only power is control over the property & my right to use physical force to maintain that control or order. If crimes are committed & the BG gets away. It's the polices job to track them down & arrest them! My job is to observe, use reasonable force to protect or stop the threat, & report. It's the polices job to arrest criminals.

How can the board justify taking away the body armor of security that are many times first on the scene?? So long as their patches say SECURITY, what could possibly be the issue??? I'll give a great example. San Francisco used to have "Patrol Specials" basically armed security with arrest powers that worked the neighborhoods and businesses for over a hundred years. The SFPD had a great idea and started making complaints that eventually took all of their authority away, so most of the Patrol Specials went out of business, and now look a San Francisco. Don't let local police ruin your city with pettiness.

If they make changes are they going to provide funding to assist these companies in paying for the changes? I mean we are talking about 10’s of thousands of dollars in changes in some cases for companies that have a lot of Officers.

With the lack of sworn police officers and long police response times the private sector had to and does pick up the slack, only to catch flack from public agencies whining.
People who have never been in harm's way will never understand. Some of us face many of the same threats as law enforcement. We have properties in the hood where you can be trespassing two people found smoking meth in a vacant apartment while a teenaged kid gets shot 3 streets down in a gang hit, and next thing you know you're in a stack of police officers pushing up stairs, clearing units, and rendering aid to a gunshot victim.
It's not about impersonation. My uniform says I am a professional, and PD can trust me to have their back when it counts.

There is a BSIS policy that requires all security to be identified front, back, left and right. It has to be visible and can not replicate law enforcement.
I believe the only change that needs to occur is not the uniform, but the verbiage they use on their uniforms. Security has definitely drifted away from identifying as “SECURITY”

These are examples of verbiage that shouldn’t be used to identify SECURITY GUARDS.
I’m not sure what they’re looking to change, there’s a vast difference in the color of the uniforms, as well as all of the security officers have markings designated them as security officers. At the places, they are contracted to be at, that badging gun is a deterrent and today more than never it is more necessary to have arm security at these places to at least bridge. The gap until law-enforcement can respond.

The uniforms I currently wear at my security job are pretty ridiculous. I'm not saying I need to look like a cop, but cmon! Royal Blue shirt with orange trim and khaki pants. I look like tactical Mr. Rogers.

Most of the time police don't show up when security calls them for a dangerous situation. Even the security guard company supervisors don't show up most of the time either

Well, hope I am not very late to discuss that, but I am a security officer(here we are called Vigilantes) in Brazil, I have a major degree in law(my company demands at least a 4 year bachelor's degree) and I am now graduating a MBA in Private Security, I've been working as a registered security officer since 2001, and for the last 12 years I've been as VSPP(bodyguard) for a company that serves protective services for politicians primarily, tycoons and PUDTs(Person Under Death Threat). Our company used to send us to a CPO specialized training in USA, with instructors from some former SWAT teams all over America, former US Secret Service agents and former HSI agents, so I know a little bit about how american police organizations works(or should work), as well, how private security companies work, and why there's some states that allow private polices under the name "Special Police", and the history behind it.
I must admit that I am not an expert in Los Angeles or California laws, but I am an expert in Security Officers equipments, I am completelly against a "private police", or "police wannabe" uniforms, and the company I work for, have a tuxedo uniform, our cars aren't marked in high-contrast colors nor have flashing yellow lights, but it have beeing changing for the last 5 years, by the time we are used to carry a concealed weapon, there's a new "fixed position" uniform that is more tacticool, this security agent doesn't escorts the VIP all along, but stays in his house or inside the private condos, and theres a psychological question about that, like it or not, a trespasser, a citizen unhappy with his politician, or someone that have anger issues, were always, always engaging in fight with us using tuxedos, even that we could legally use lethal force(I don't wanna get into details here of why, but remember, brazilian laws are different and depending of what customer we have, some laws may not apply as they should), they would still totaly engage in a fight with us, but when we realized that the other security company were dealing with them, the apparent armor vests and the more tactical gear had a completelly psychological effect on them, and since we adopted this second uniform with an open carry, in plain view revolver, our man-to-man engagements dropped to zero, I can't remember that last time we had to use the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes, the same guy with a concealed carry on a tuxedo that would face a trouble, now wearing the tactical gear, just steps in and then things gets quickly de-escalated.
And remember, I am brazilian, but yet I know the difference between a security officer uniform, from a police officer uniform, and in America things are prerry easy, blue lights are reserved for the official police, if I were to point the differences would be a LAPD, NYPD, POLICE, RANGER, SHERIFF or something like that in the back of the vest, if I see "security" or another name, I know that this isn't the official police, it's not that difficult.
And again, I am completelly against security officers posing or impersonating policemen, but wearing a tactical uniform with sober colors, have a psychological impact, despite I an't liking it and really preffering my tuxedo, I can't deny the facts.
Different jobs have different needs and types of uniforms. It’s not all suit and tie buddy. Now if you say your a cop and are not then you are impersonating if you are in your uniform that is correct for your job site your doing your job not posing. Duh
One of my best places of employment was being a security officer. One of my task was to observe and report. I do not interact with the customers who did naughty deeds. I witnessed a man leaving a wedding with a glass full of alcohol, drunk as a skunk. I also saw a man jump off a Hilton sky rise. The man did that in front of his children and God. I opted to inform the owners of the establishments. Lastly, I dared to ask a Rabbi what kosher food was. He was a regular feature at wealthy weddings. Instead of answering my question, the Rabbi gestured his hand for me to follow him. We went to the top floor of the chocolate factory. I retired from working shortly after that encounter. I begin working at the age of thirteen years old. 2003-2017 I did the best that I could. I had a good run.

New York for example has security wearing square/rectangle badges/patches.
Generally, New Jersey armed security officers wear any type of badge, but their uniforms and badges must state that they are armed security officers Level III.
Is it helping prevent crime and increase presence
A lot of these Security/Public Safety Officers are commissioned, meaning they have Police powers while they are on duty. We are governed by our local police department, they make us train at their Police academy.

Security guards need to look it. Cops need to look like cops. If your a security in cop gear and get hit and you hurt someone your done. You dont have that immunity. Security is security deterent not aggressive. You observe and report thats it. Unless your life or someone in front of you is in danger. You step off. Your not a cop or peace officer.

There are Security company’s here in town who have removed UNARMED people AT GUNPOINT (Felony) and wrongfully arrested people. Most of these security officers can’t tell you what the definition of deadly physical force is, yet they wear a gun and some even carry AR’s (FACTS)!!!
As for the ballistic armor they wear … I don’t have any issue with these as many times Security is first on the scene however, this still doesn’t mean they need to wear a badge!!!
Security guards job is to observe and report. Security guards have no arrest authority. The liability of being arrested and sued should be a major concern for all security guards as they do not have qualified immunity. Any guard who keeps pushing the agenda really just trying to be more than what they are really tasked to do. If you want to be a cop then go apply at a police department or Sheriff’s office. Let’s stop pretending to be something we will never be and are not supposed to be.
Depends on the state. And just like any civilian you have the right to make a citizen arrest if need be, and the rules that go with it must be followed to a T. You also must have actionable intelligence and knowledge of how to do this to avoid liability. Learn and always have continued education. Security doesn’t just stop with a D/G license. The more certs, and more licenses you have you have better pay, more options and better protections.
The federal government should also defund the police departments across the country. If your gonna do this to security
