Yo found you from your recent comment on geek critique about Sonic 06. I liked the curiosity and your writing. Good one. I'm excited to see Sega hire someone from SAGE sonic fan games to fucking finally create a 3d physics based momentum platformer... Or maybe they'll just hire the devs of super cloud built (love that game and have been craving a true momentum based 3d platformer for years. How do people get into making game analyses videos anyways? Like do alot have a background in game design and game history / educate themselves in the internet about those disciplines and then beleive in themselves enough to articulate their opinion in a strong manner? Idk I'm just curious as to how people get into game analyses videos. Are these aspiring game designers ? I liked the way you wrote your comment on geek critique. I have some strong opinions on game things and wanna talk about how the failure of the wiiu gamepad may be the greatest loss to field of game design, or how people making judgements about last of us part 2 leaks illustrates a fundamental problem with the way even gamers understand the medium. You don't judge a book by its cover. You don't judge a game solely by its story, especially before playing it?! . I...thought this was obvious. SPOILER ALERT for last of us 2: I thought it was obvious that you couldn't get mad about killing off Joel and see it as nothing but a numdrum revenge is bad tale because that judgement is clearly stemming from nothing but how the story was spoiled for you early in before anyone played it . Ellie is clearly mentally ill, develooing sociopathy, and pushing away her loved ones as she falls into obsession and traumatized from seeing her father be brutally murdered and tortured in front of her. Man I just wish I could see how it's reception would have been were there no leaks. I fucking wish I coudl experience a world where most gamers experienced the shock and trauma that they were supposed to experience after years of holding on to their beloved character, that they put themselves in,, which allowed them to suspend their disbelief enough to get into the state that ellie was in because it would feel like they were savagely killed early on. Wow, what a powerful demonstration of what only the medium of videogames can do, a story built up over the course of a decade, thrown away because a bunch of walking stereotypes of the negative perception of gamers decided to make a judgement and spread their well informed opinions about the games quality based on leaks. A vessel for the player last game. That's what I did in part 1, that's why I killed the surgeons without realizing I was forced to.. I hesitated, because I didnt know what to do but I went out of my way to immerse myself and suspend my disbelief to have a conversation with the game designers and writers and experience the artistic intent to its fullest potential. I am upset and I care. About these 2 things. About my steam controller. About the way the last of us was impacted. About the way botw's ux was stripped down for the switch version and gamepad features seen in beta removed so now we must pause the game every 5 seconds to switch weapons and manage inventory instead of making it seamless and thus profoundly increasing the skill cap and depth of the game. I care about all the cool new intuitive ways to control and add mechncial depth to my game that the gamepad could do. I'm upset with how the ps4s gyro wasn't used in fps games so I have to resort to Nintendo with their unsatisfactory sensitivity controls and online robustness just to be able to play a competitive shooting game with other people using gyro. Why. Why only Splatoon. Why is there a gyro in dualshock 4. Why so I can aim the cursor over the keyboard faster. Ux is game design. They are not separate disciplines. precise gyro controls do. I care about game feel. I dream of a day where precise motion controls are used in esports, because I love motion controls. Anyway, I appreciate seeing people get thoughtful about their opinions and questions. Maybe one day I'll do the same in a coherent manner It can't be hard, making a video that coherently articulates your opinion while being engaging and humorous.... Haha right?!?! The whole "Sonic had a rough transition to 3D" was mostly because of the Sega Saturn. We know the story of Sonic Xtreme and how that game got cancelled due to development hell and that TT Games (Traveler's Tales) made a port of Sonic 3D Blast for the Holiday season, where as games like Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time had a great transition to 3D, this was because the Sega Saturn can only render 2D graphics better than 3D. Sonic Adventure 1 got a 9.2/10 and Sonic Adventure 2 got a 8.6/10 from Gamespot (not counting the ports) but Sega had to rush the Sega Dreamcast out because the Sega Saturn was like the Wii U but Sega became a third party company and the rest is history, again the whole "Sonic has had a rough transition to 3D" was because the Sega Saturn could not put out good 3D games (look at Daytona USA on the Saturn and compere it to the Arcade version) and Sonic Xtreme's development hell.
Nah, I'm pretty sure those titles have been largely forgotten, niche games like those tend to be buried over time. They're most likely referring to games like the Adventure games, Heroes, and 06, all of which were heavily flawed. Frankly I would agree if that's what they mean. The Adventure games are overrated clusterfucks, Heroes is too bogged down with painfully tedious combat, and 06 is a buggy mess (ironically, I actually think 06 is the best of all of them because there's at least some semblance of a fun game hidden beneath the bugs whereas the other 3 are bad because of design decisions).
06 doesent even have momentum physics which is what made all the other games fun. At least with the dreamcast games you had way more freedom in what you could accomplish. Instead of spindashing or going down a hill to gain speed 06 will just put a speed pad there. Thats Just one example 06 takes all your freedom away. I feel like its more comparible to the storybook games in that sense, its just on rails "gameplay" witch really just amounts to holding the left stick forward and doing a homing atack once and a while. While I don't think the dreamcast games were flawless by any means I think that your comparisons to them are dumb.
@@macjcb2724 The Adventure games technically have momentum physics but use them far less in the level design than the Classic levels (and that's just with the Sonic levels, that's not even getting into how the other characters don't have them at all and play completely differently from Sonic to the point of not feeling like they're in a Sonic game). Also, they were the games that started the on rails booster pads, not 06.

@@twoforfive9228 Mario 64 is hella broken wdym. And not just broken, but... so ugly. The environments and level design is trash imo
Calistus Jay: nah Mario transitioned better. The Saturn sonic games were bad or forgettable & many ppl like mario64 a lot. Adventure was already too late to be considered "transition to 3D". By then Metak gear solid, Ocarina of time, and SM64 came out
Yeah, no. Mario had a much better transition. And had a better port of the same game on the ds. While SA1 had an at best ok port on the gamecube. You say 64 looks ugly when the same thing can be said for SA1(both are good games in there own right but don't single out Mario like that)
@@toby8907 nah the Dreamcast was the spearhead of amazing graphics back in the day
I always thought when people said Sonic had a rocky transition into 3D, they meant something like - Where 2D Sonic games are mostly good, Sonic's 3D games are all over the place abd don't have as clean of a record.
Quality video
Good vid, thanks. For your name, how about "Iggyminious"? A play on "ignominious"
-
Meaning - deserving or causing public disgrace or shame. That could be quite appropriate for a game critic.
That's actually a good idea, since Google and UA-cam search don't come up with anything else when I look that up.
@@iggyminious woah is this where you got the name from.
Read your about section and this was. Cool beans. I must say that the name also attracted me. Actually yeah no if you had a generic username and anime profile Pic j may not have clicked here. This is a really good name
Like the video, but it can also go back to the Sonic Arcade game.
Maybe one day I'll do the same in a coherent manner
It can't be hard, making a video that coherently articulates your opinion while being engaging and humorous.... Haha right?!?!
Well, atleast it's easier than gamedev. .
Also sonic unleashed for the wii is the best 3d sonic game.
And I think sonic 06s graphics were groundbreaking in kingdom valley
The geek critique is the best gaming show on UA-cam I think. Lmk if you know of anyone else that's that top tier. Nite
The name for the channel id make is called game design justice warrior. Lmk whacha think sucka. Yeauh

I love adventure does anyone know that sonic speed simulator is a successor to sa1&2
no its not
@@zf10studios52 yes it is
@@sonicnetwork2944 it has none of the qualities a successor would need.
Original and focused levels with a clear objective? Nah.
New abilities to bring to the table? Nah.
Major sonic team project? Nah.
Multiple playable characters who have unique abilities? Nah.
Unique and comprehensive story? Nah.
AAA budget? Nah.
Animated cutscenes? Nah.
It’s a roblox game that is barely passable as a sonic game. It’s got some good physics, but that’s really it.
@@zf10studios52 when I said it was a succesor to sa1&2 and meant the physics you idiot and by the way they do have characters with different ablities such as super sonic who can fly neo metal who can also fly they have no place sonic who can stand on water like in Sonic prime and not to mention jet wave and storm who can all double jump they just don't have flight and gliding for tails Cream charmy knuckles and rouge that's the only thing that they don't have that was In Sa1&2 also speed simulator is more like frontiers since it's an open world like it did you even see the same game?
@@zf10studios52 I mean in gameplay my dude 😑😠
3D Sonic games aged like milk and are objectively bad. No amount of nostalgia can change that.
