Test firing several different types of ammo with several different types of magazine combinations to see what one worked best in this weapon to determine the possible cause of the malfunction is what separates Hickok45 from other UA-camrs.Others woulda just bashed the weapon without going the extra mile or giving a detailed explanation as to why the malfunction may have occurred.Hickok45 really did a great job with the review of this new 9mm Ruger.

Yeah. I’ve run various glock mags, and everything from 88g hollow points to 124RN powder coated wheel weights and mine seems to feed everything and anything. Ruger is known for customer service. This seems like a fluke, and I’d bet they will take care of it.

I think a big advantage to having this gun is the same one cowboys found with .45 colt lever-action rifles -- both your pistol and your rifle shoot the same ammo so when you are out on your own and not able to replenish ammo easily you have the ability to carry more ammo and use whatever tool is best for the situation.
Edit: Ok, ok, so apparently I am not up to speed on my history of American west firearms of the late 1800's. But _whatever_ caliber they, or whoever, used - the concept is the same; when your rifle and pistol shoot the same ammo you've just increased your loadout capacity significantly when you might not get replenishment any time soon. For that reason, my revolver and my lever action both shoot .357 Mangum/.38 Special (and I _know_ neither was used by cowboys of the old west). This gun would give me the same flexibility with it and my M9 Beretta (and it looks like it easily breaks down smaller than my lever-action for carry in a backpack.)

A huge advantage to the ruger system is that If you carry other p-system handguns (like the p93,94,etc.) the mags are actually interchangeable with the carbine, allowing you to just carry one type of magazine and ammo together.

I bought one this week and just took mine to the range. I have the Magpul PC backpack version. Brought it to the range with the cheapest Wolf steel case ammo I had. Along with other more expensive ammo. Used Glock Mags. I sent 250 rounds down range of three different brands of ammo. No issues. Liked all of the ammo equally as well. I was able to "James Bond" my target at 40 yards shooting the target dead center in the head without adjustment. The out of the box accuracy was impressive. No malfunctions of any kind. Was having so much fun I sent another 250 rounds down range. No issues and the accuracy was equally as impressive. The RSOs at my club were intrigued. Were friends and they all wanted to shoot it so I let them. One of the RSOs is a woman. After firing the rifle and watching me show them how it breaks down, snaps into back-pack mode and holds the extra Mag in the stock they all decided they have to have one too! Universally loved by everybody that fired it. Thought the price was a great value given the quality of the weapon, made in USA and the Magpul stock and accuracy. Fun factor is off the charts. Out of the box accuracy is amazing.
Just installed a Feyachi Red Dot sight as my first upgrade. Back to the range to Zero the red Dot and send more freedom down range!
After 500 rounds down range my rifle is as reliable as any Semi I have ever owned. Fun factor is off the charts. Practical usability as a compact home defense weapon, survival weapon, bug out weapon and plinker that takes Glock or Ruger posts mags is outstanding.
This rifle does everyrhing I hoped it would exactly the way I hoped it would or better.
I live in an anti 2A state with many restrictions on what we can own.
The Ruger PC (Politically Correct) Carbine is a home run and great value for those of us that live in anti 2A states.
If you are taking about a home defense semi auto and don't own one yet this should be on your radar. If you are in a blue state I suggest you do what I did and run out and get one before they are on the next list of banned firearms in your state.
    Bravo Ruger!

I just retired from my Sheriff’s Office after 30 years, I carried a Glock 19 for the last 10 years and I believe I’ve found my first post law-enforcement purchase (gotta spend that pension money somewhere, right?). I’ve got about a half dozen G19 mags lying around that I don’t think my Glock will mind sharing. Boy, Ruger and Magpul are gonna LOVE me! Magpul just announced a stock for this carbine like the X-22 Backpacker for the 10/22 Takedown. So those will be my next two - the 10/22 Takedown and the PC Carbine, both with the Magpul stocks. As you might guess, I’m kinda fond of Ruger. My BUG on duty and my off duty carry is the LCP II which I love!

Call 1-855-LAW-GUNS to find out more. If you own property in NY, you may be able to get a NYS pistol permit, which is required to merely possess a pistol in your own home here. I have this great PC Carbine - I use a variety of Glock type magazines - I have shot maybe 1,000 rounds through it - mostly 115 grain non-plus P Winchester range ammo. I haven't had any issues with that. Literally the only problems occurred when I tried using some cheap reloads that I'd purchased at a gun show - they didn't seem to have enough power to fully run the action. My only gripe is that the carbine is a little heavy to hold standing for an extended period. Because its 9mm you can shoot this carbine at indoor ranges, which is a huge benefit during the cold dark wet winter months!

It's been my experience with pistol caliber carbines using a blow back design that bolt velocity is critical in conjunction with how healthy the magazine spring is. The bolt needs to have a cycle velocity fast enough and with sufficient force to make it it's full travel to eject the empty case forcefully and return to battery also with enough force to strip and chamber the next fresh cartridge. The magazine spring has to be healthy enough to have that next fresh cartridge ready to go when the bolt makes it's return trip to battery. If the bolt is too slow or the magazine spring is weak, a pistol caliber carbine will not function 100%.

Most any rim-fire Ruger will experience malfunctions with any mag greater than 10 rounds, factory or aftermarket. Center-fire too, in my anecdotal experience: my boss just got a new magazine for her LC380, many feeding failures with the factory unit. Always after the 2nd shot, and usually won't get the last two to feed either on the last trip out. The LC9 (from which the 380's janky mag is adapted) has very similar problems.

    • @frjhracing

I see a couple responses with the glock high capacity in question - I run Elite Tactical 31 mags occasionally - I've had no misfires with those specific mags after a couple hundred and just some 115 blazer rounds. I can say with certainty that most of the glock related misfiring mags are due to the snug fit either A) wearing out or B) bad tolerances from the factory. The ETS mags have a noticeably tighter fit then even my glock branded variants (I think mainly due to the glock mags used in my other stuff frequently and having some wear). The mag adapter may be an issue too if you have mag-non-specific feeding problems. The other day I took two other friends out and we probably sent 300+ rounds through it without any feeding problems. So its interesting seeing all the problems in this video.

I use the two ruger 15 r mags that came with the rifle and SR9 mags of various sizes. I'm not a Glock owner so no glock mags. No malfuntions since purchase. Super easy take down which I consider a huge plus. Very accurate and so fun to shoot. My ONLY slight negative is it's a bit heavy for a gun this size. Still managable but idealy a little more light weight.

They’ve had a long time to make that gun reliable so I was anxious to see your experience at this juncture. Your critique is quite kind considering nothing is worse than the long drive home from the range completely pissed off at your gun malfunctioning. Been there with Ruger more than a few times. Yes they were very good about trying to fix my SR9. Key word in the last sentence is “trying”. The 3rd time they finally replaced it and to avoid a guilty conscience I took it straight to my dealer and traded it for a Glock 19. The PC9 has been the subject of many UA-cam videos in the past that resemble your experience. No thanks.

M-Carbo gunsmith kept suggesting the barrel lock nut must not be tight enough. Absolutely not the case but got me thinking. At the front of receiver where the barrel is inserted are 3 hex nuts. I want to say I never felt inclined to do so until recently and felt I couldn't sit and do nothing as our rights are coming "under fire." I know there is more I could do and probably should do. But life happens as well and find it difficult to carve out the time to send letters to representatives, etc.
If you think my joining the NRA means nothing or you hate them, that's fine. However, I hope my small (yet good intentioned) contribution helps us all enjoy and maintain the rights we have.
I'm trying to help, albeit a small help in many minds. What have you done?

I have one and haven't had an issue so far. Been only shooting 115 grain Winchester, Federal, and Tula bulk ammo. I've only run 1 33 round mag through it so far though. I've noticed the 33 rounders seem to have a lot of play and I'm thinking that may be the culprit for malfunctions.

VAPrepper but he had malfunctions with the regular Glock mags and even the Ruger magazines. Which kind of mags are you using?

I commented before watching the full video. Should have waited until the end but I'm just using standard Glock mags. Based on what I'm seeing on the forums it seems to be pretty reliable. My guess is he got a dud. Time will tell though.

Mine runs pretty well also. I was shooting mostly Federal 115g stuff. Bump fires pretty easily too, or so I've heard.

Ruger literature, which nobody apparently reads, DOES say that the extended mags might have issues.

All of the rounds I have fired thru mine have been with the Ruger Mags. Several hundred rounds and no malfunctions.

I had a couple of malfunctions during the first shots as well with different magazines. I replaced the extractor and shock buffer with spring from Mcarbo and that solved all my issues.

In a landmark decision today (3/29/19), judge Benitez of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California has ruled that the law against magazine capacity in California is unconstitutional, effective immediately, I believe. Subject to 9th Circuit of Appeals down the road, but that is the law as it stands now. Victory! Thanks to the NRA for their work on this. I just picked up this rifle in Ca. this week, and will be upgrading my mags soon!

4/17/19 The lifting of the CA high capacity mag restrictions only lasted one week before a second judge issued a stay of the original law until all the appeal process has been completed. IOW, it will eventually end up in the Federal Supreme Court where its likely to finally be ruled unconstitutional to settle the matter once and for all. It is noted that in that SINGLE WEEK California gun owners purchased several million 30 round magazines locally in gun shops, from neighboring states, and online before the ban was back in place. Don't think CA residents are all anti-gun....there are more chapters of Friends of NRA in California than any other state. The 2nd A is alive and well, even if its 'covertly' in LaLa Land.

From Canada: you Yanks are lucky to have the 2nd. We do not have that constitution protection . Yet firearms were as much as important in the growth and development of our country as yours.

Chris Lucas idk what poverty has to do with needing guns... but crime is at an all time low across the US, there’s some cities with relatively higher amounts of violent crimes but they’re the exception. Don’t buy the mainstream news BS. We’re safer than we’ve ever been, it’s just violent crimes are sensational and there’s more coverage of them because it sells well.
