Kubo is hugely underrated. In my opinion, it's the best _LOOKING_ animated movie ever. When I watched in a theatre, I knew it was Laika and so I knew it was stop-motion, but I swore I was watching 3D-rendered animation and it wasn't until the credit scenes that it really registered what they'd accomplished. Tremendous.
My dream job is to be an animator or part of the team but this Stop-Motion animation Interested me the most. I hope I could learn and try this in the future!
Well, to be honest they were kind of different types of horror films. Non is straight horror, but Frankenweenie is retro horror and ParaNorman is much more informed by modern horror sensabilities mixed with some 19th Century sensabilities. Although I really didn't enjoy ParaNorman's humor. It was trying to be too edgy.
I saw their full exhibit in Portland back in December - I drove all the way down there from Alberta, Canada and it was hands down one of the most amazing exhibits ever! I was moved to tears, I was so happy to be there and see everything in person! Working for Laika is seriously a dream job of mine, so happy to see you put out a feature on them!! They deserve all of the recognition that they can get!
Can't like this one enough! I got to be upclose with pieces from Kubo and the Two Strings, Coraline and Box Trolls and they are beautifully done. Laika doesn't get enough recognition.
Kayte almost seems to be humoring the people she interviews unlike Norm and Simon who always seem to have more energy and be constantly geeking out, you can see the knowledge she has but she doesn't use it. perhaps she just needs to do more interviews? Norm used to be the same way where he would just answer with "cool" or "wow that's awesome" instead of elaborating or drawing on his own knowledge
It’s one of my dreams to work for laika, coraline has always been my favourite film since I could even remember and I just this the unique animation is just awesome, And I would love to be apart of that someday. And hopefully create a movie who someone loves as much as I love coraline and maybe also be inspired by it.
LAIKA had this in the Portland Art Museum, got to see it, did they bring the giant skeleton from Kubo, in real life it was 16 feet tall - was breath taking.
Cool!!♥ I love LAIKA I love the boxtrolls I love paranorman Wow! Is there a next episode? I want to see this process. I want to know how to do puppets.
Laika has industry setting puppets, however it's still based on the way it was first developed, tension held ball joints and sometimes wire. I believe Tested has a video where they tour Phil Tippett's shop and he does a wonderful job, as well as the video where Adam Savage is in Peter Jackson's place, he has the OG King Kong puppet armature, where it all started. Great for reference.
Although their movies aren't particularly good, you have to appreciate the work and experience of the animators, which almost makes up for everything else.

same om-
honestly me too
It's such a shame Laika films don't make a proffit, thankfully the guy who owns it also owns Nike.
No but his dad is apart of the board of directors of Nike.
Kubo is an amazing movie. Perhaps Laika’s best. ParaNorman is also a wonderful and underrated stop motion film. Better than Frankenweenie for sure

Afonso Lucas what are you even talking about? How was paranorman trying to be edgy with its comedy?
I truly love claymation it is unique and stands out on it's own and beautifuly done , these are masterpieces.
pirates190 they actually don’t use clay much

I would kill to get to see the pink palace set in person or even a Norman or coraline doll
This process is honestly fucking mind blowing. Truly amazing
Norm does such a good job asking questions in these videos! He gets every question I would have had answered.
Norm: "An animator at Laika, and Gabe, this looks Laika set." I see what you did there.
Kayte almost seems to be humoring the people she interviews unlike Norm and Simon who always seem to have more energy and be constantly geeking out, you can see the knowledge she has but she doesn't use it. perhaps she just needs to do more interviews? But the former is basically what Adam does with every interview. You just don't like Norm
Vasyl K but Adam first geeks out on what he likes by screaming wow for a few seconds and then starts explaining why he likes it that much.
I've mentioned this before but norm has gotten so much better at interviewing people
I got so annoyed with her part of the interview... such fake enthusiasm...
I’m super into stop motion right now and this makes me really excited!!
The day has come, Norm is not the awkward one.
Now I want to binge watch some of their movies
We went and saw their exhibit in Portland Oregon earlier this year! It was incredible!

Great to see a fellow Northerner working on a high-budget stop-motion film. Greetings from East Lancashire, Nick! :-)
I love Coraline and Laika!
I think this is what they call "painstaking"!!! Wow!
Is this Kayte's first time in a tested video? I keep getting surprised by new people!
Thats amazing
Seeing the armatures laying down on the mold reminds me of Westworld.
I want to hear about the motion blur swords at the end! I had never thought about that before. Cool stuff.
I've never clicked on a video so fast until this one 😍
Such lovely work, awesome.
Love the museum and I love all four 🎥. ❤👍
Soooooooooo jealous you get to see this.
You need more subs and views, your work is good
Dope af. I would love to be an intern at one of these places these guys and special effects
Wait so...if you don't reuse the same face models, what happens to them? Do they get auctioned off or get sent to storage!!?
they probably give them to close family members and friends of the family as a gift or memento of some sort, I hope anyways lol
How do they make the set
Another great video, FYI you can buy your very own Kuba face in the LAIKA shop. Its too expensive for me ($800) but if I had the $ I totally would.
I want a Caroline doll rn
i just got the nike foamposite paranorman!

I like missing link
I recently watched Isle of Dogs, and I loved it like Kubo. Laika is really full of inspiring people 👌
Thé Rex how add fantastic mr fox to make wonderfull list.
It's not laika but their films are wonderful in their own way as well!!
Thé Rex Isle of dogs was done by someone else
Jadesoul Plays Yes I know haha, I meant I appreciated it for approximately the same reasons (unusual animations techniques, dialogue or vfx)
Awesome vid
I thought Andy made that shot
its very cool!
I want to do all of this
Lo amo
make a grim fandango movie!
God I love laika
I like Kayte's shirt.
I need kubo figure for my room
Nice...but that's not the camera you guys use...what a trick.
coraline
That's impressive. Second 😁
Mr. Oogie Boogie from Nightmare Before Christmas Detroit youmacon please do it that would be awesome
Comic com 2018
popets f yeah
I though it was Lika the space dog
lol ^^
neat
what does her shirt say? Les droits des femmes?
Exactly, that's french for women's rights
Yes, but the grammar is off. It should've been structured this way: Les droits de la femme.
Hi
Sup
les droits des femmes...pour vrai?
Although their movies aren't particularly good, you have to appreciate the work and experience of the animators, which almost makes up for everything else.
first lol
Was watching Kubo for the first time today and had to bail out at the 30 min mark, so freaking boring.
Man that nerd chick is smok'n hot!
GAVIN SMIYH lol what? What is your standard for smoking hot?
That need chick. Smooth. She seems very nervous and anxious during the interview. But she persevered.
gallimead
Was too busy stareing at her rack to notice.
Kayte's voice is way to loud.
That girl... she doesnt have to make a remark at every single thing the puppet maker says lol
Makes her sound really annoying
I reckon she got the job because she's a woman. Very difficult to listen to..
Hi
