Fun Fact: Nick Park's first short, Wallace & Gromit's A Grand Day Out, was started solo, by himself. Two years in, he'd only finished 10 minutes. The short took six entire years to finish and broadcast.
Agreed. "A Grand Day Out", Nick Park's first short film, began production by the short film's photographer and director himself, back in 1982. He had only finished the first 10 minutes of the short film in 1985, therefore he moved from Preston to Bristol, therefore letting him to not only join Aardman Animations, but to also finish the remainder of his short film for the National Film and Television School. The short film itself, took just six years to finish. Eventually, it aired on November 4, 1989 on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom.
Again, Adam is the best interviewer. He's knowledgeable so he asks the right questions, excited and animated, and not the least bit abrasive or egotistical when it comes to talking to masters about their crafts. I just love the videos where he's interviewing people.
Agreed. He has the knowledge to get to the heart of the topic, the experience to not be intimidated out of asking, the childlike wonder to be genuinely excited and interested in the topic and enough humility to keep it about the person he's interviewing and their craft. It's always so much fun to watch him geek out like this.
Adam's excitement is infectious. I already find stop motion puppetry be fascinating, but Adam's intense interest and little gasps of awe and wonder made the video even more enjoyable.
So the one detail that would be skipped over by Adam was that the Sheeps messenger bag had a 'Blue Peter' Badge. Those badges are known to be very hard to come by as you have to have taken part or been awarded the badge by the Kids TV show called Blue Peter. Its a detail you would skip over if you had not grown up with the show but it leads you to wonder what the back story for the Sheep gaining the badge was.
I remember watching the episode of Blue Peter about that, i cant remember exactly what happened but its really nice that they had this detail that ended up in the actual movie
The first time I saw "The Wrong Trousers" I was blown away and instantly became both a 'Wallace and Grommit' and Aardman Animation fan. The scene with the model train near the end of 'TWT' is pure genius. JW3HH
Adam constantly reaffirms that he's just a decent guy. A gifted and very lucky guy. His reaction to the surprise at the end had me grinning with delight. That kind of joy is infectious.
That was awesome Adam, I've always loved Aardman Animations work. I was really sad that their main storage warehouse burned down along with the original Wallace and Gromit sets.
In the modern era, when we're constantly bombarded by the dubious talents of "celebrities", it's amazing to see people with genuine, jaw dropping abilities - Adam included ! Just incredible creativity.
It is a British stop-motion animated claymation pixilation adult comedy series, primarily consisting of a television show and two short films produced by Aardman Animations for BBC Bristol in association with EVA Entertainment and Egmont.
I just love how they incorporate new techniques without giving up the old claymation way. Aardman will always be my legend in claymation. Perfecting the art. They can give a character without words a full character and someone you hate or love.
wow. I've always loved Wallace and Gromit so much, and I find claymation in general to be facsinating and beautful. This was truly a lovely and amazing video
I was lucky enough to meet the head of Aardman, Peter Lord, a couple of years ago, before he gave a talk on animation, and showed off the Pirate Captain (not the one shown here, but his 'standard' costume), which was amazing! Great video, Adam!
Some of the model makers that work for Aardman came to my primary school and i got selected to spend the day with them making different models. I got to see the way they made the were rabbit and stuff like that. It was one of my Favorited days at school.
Personally I love seeing Adam geek out over other peoples work. We are talking about a gentlemen that has had a very successful career and he acts just as any other fan would given the same situation. It is like none of his fame has gone to his head and that he is still a huge fan of the medium at heart. A great watch.
16 seconds in.. "Aardman Studios from the UK"... TO BE MORE SPECIFIC THEY'RE BASED IN BRISTOL... Not that i'm bothered, its just Bristol is about 6 miles down the road from me.. Nevermind... They're great!
Because unfortunately, making the description more specific than UK or England is superfluous to most people who aren't from the UK. I mean, I know that a city called Bristol exists, but I have no idea where it is in England. When it comes down to it, when it comes to foreign geography, many people can identify where countries are on a map, but very few can correctly place cities. Heck, even when it comes to the US, I wonder how many non-Americans can correctly place New York or Los Angeles on a blank map.
Pretty much everyone in the UK would (or at least should) know where cities like NY and LA are on the map of the US, it's pretty common knowledge where the most well known cities are located. Less well known cities like Columbus, Ohio or Baton Rouge, Louisiana may be harder for UK folks to place but I'd bet a large number would know...
+thebigitchy I am from the UK and I know that New York is on the East Coast just below the Canadian Border..while L A is on the west coast, just by the California peninsular....a group from Florida that I met at Stonehenge did not know that Florida has a west and east coast due to it also having a peninsular(where Kennedy Space Centre is). FYI, Bristol is in the southwest corner of England, in the county of Somerset, just across the river Severn from Wales, and is the Birthplace of Cary Grant, and David 'Darth Vader' Prouse. Hope that helps
Bristol is NOT in Somerset. It is within its own county. It is The City and County of Bristol. It is borderd to the south by the County of North Somerset and to the East by the county of Bath and North East Somerset, or BANES. To the North it is borderd by the County of South Gloustershire. The County of Somerset itself is miles away from Bristol.
I'm so sorry, traffic must be awful there. Some youtubers I watch and UK traffic is awful! They bought a bus ad and tried to find all seven if their buses in bristol
dear Mr Adam. I hope you read this. in South Africa they recently aired the episode of Mythbuaters that goes behind the scenes. as a kid watching since the very first episode, it brought me to tears after realising that this is the last few episodes of one of the biggest influences in my life. thank you so much to you and everyone that made it possible. thanks waiting for the return of karry grant and torry episode to air , can't wait.
Ya that kinda suprised me too! especially since he has young children? Then again he is an extremely busy man and we can't expect him to be able to see and do everthing. Something tells me he will now though! :)
Absolutely fantastic. For anybody who wants to know more about the process, there's an episode of How It's Made (Season 18, Episode 01) that dedicates two whole segments to behind-the-scenes on Shaun the Sheep, including details of making the puppets, animating the puppets, and the actual shooting/post-production. Cool stuff!
We watched this to finish off our unit on Stop Motion in my Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math class. Thanks for showing off how art and engineering truly go hand and hand!
Got a little choked up with Adam when they gave him his own mini-bust. Like watching a kid get a present at christmas. Excellent video. Really astounded by all the interior workings underneath the beautiful finishes.
This kind of makes me nostalgic for working in a creative industry (architecture). It can be frustrating developing techniques to make shit work, but the highs of feeling like a champion amongst excellent people when you've contributed that tiny bit of the solution to a problem that makes all the difference in a creative process is the best. What really impressed me with these guys is they attributed the credit for those small but important developments to the individuals who made them. That is absolutely key to building and keeping a strong team of excellent people to work with and almost never happens in architecture. Kudos to the Aardman founders. I was absolutely tickled pink for you Adam when they busted out the Aardman Animations bust of you. That would make my decade.
i thought so too but tbh its easier for them this way and if they can do this and keep that look that shows how good they are at doing this type of animation
+Kieran Sanders thats so true. Adam was also suprised. they achieved that original 'feel' that is their signature. In hindsight, i did notice the change. The mouth movements in chicken Run seemed 'fast'.
I always feel like not enough people know about Aardman, or who they are. Like I feel Wallace and Gromit was always a UK thing and I can never gauge it's popularity around the rest of the world?
Did you know Adam Savage visited Aardman Animations itself recently? Check it out: ua-cam.com/video/stSYs7a2UHE/v-deo.html
They also did work on Peter Gabriel's music video for the 1986 song "Sledgehammer", which also won an Mtv Video Music Award the following year.
Fun Fact: Nick Park's first short, Wallace & Gromit's A Grand Day Out, was started solo, by himself. Two years in, he'd only finished 10 minutes. The short took six entire years to finish and broadcast.
The dedication he had, and have to aardman films is incredible!!
Agreed. "A Grand Day Out", Nick Park's first short film, began production by the short film's photographer and director himself, back in 1982. This could've been five hours and still not been enough. Aardman are just amazing. Excellent episode!
Agree!
It's so coll
*cool*
Right? And Adam's obsessing over it and his technical knowledge makes it even better than just the already amazing sculptures.

I love Adam getting choked up over his little Aardman bust. Too sweet.
That was the most wholesome thing I've seen all day.
I got choked up watching. Second hand veclepmt.

@@jimmyc6686I know this comment is two years old, but in case anyone else wants to know, its at 18:02 .

I know right, it's so good they added that!

Also a blue peter badge on one of the Pirates hats!!!
The BP badge detail made my day !
I don't blame him, I doubt Blue Peter was shown much on TV in America
Oh to be Adam Savage... What a life..
Absolutely. Very well put.
you said it.
I could just as well be named Sadam Average, that's how boring my life is in comparison.
+2nd3rd1st Take over a country with a name like that
Just walking through his cave would satisfy me for life. But that probably never happens because I live in Switzerland 😔
That gift was so thoughtful. Could see how much that meant to Adam. Amazing work Aardman guys
I am wondering how much one puppet cost
The first time I saw "The Wrong Trousers" I was blown away and instantly became both a 'Wallace and Grommit' and Aardman Animation fan. The scene with the model train near the end of 'TWT' is pure genius.

"clay stop motion animators are wizards" - an ex pixar animator
Pixar did a lot of stop motion
Axe Avier really? I didn't know that? Names please, i want to watch it Anyway, the one who said that was a cgi animator
Are you sure your not thinking of Dreamworks?
+Axe Avier That's Dreamworks. They had a contract with Ardmann.
*Aardman.

Adams sheer joy when they revealed the bust is amazing and made me smile :)

it's shaun the sheep. it's shaun the sheep.
he even mucks around with those who cannot bleat!
keep in mind he's one of a kind
Ohhhhh life's a treat with Shaun the Sheep!
*whistle* tot too totot to tot to toh *whistle*
I'm guessing everyone here is from England
I love how genuinely exited Adam gets.
Now I want to see a Jamie clay puppet.
And one from Norm...
(And one from Grant, one from Tory, and one from Kari...)
It is a British stop-motion animated claymation pixilation adult comedy series, primarily consisting of a television show and two short films produced by Aardman Animations for BBC Bristol in association with EVA Entertainment and Egmont.
Oh, that was awesome! Thank you. I loved the little Adam sculpture.
I could've watched HOURS of this!!! I love Shaun SO much! I'm glad Adam got the Aardman treatment!
amazing
Can u subscribe to my channel
I just love how they incorporate new techniques without giving up the old claymation way. Aardman will always be my legend in claymation. Perfecting the art. They can give a character without words a full character and someone you hate or love.
Actually made me cry a bit... Incredible work from Aardman shows in every film and short they make. My all time favorite filmmakers.
love how humbled u are Adam, at having the Ardman guys and puppets in your cave. Your reaction to the mini you is priceless 😊
wow. I've always loved Wallace and Gromit so much, and I find claymation in general to be facsinating and beautful. This was truly a lovely and amazing video

Adam, your passion is just SO contagious!!. Thank you so much for sharing this, you, just like Aardman's team are a huge inspiration! :)
Some of the model makers that work for Aardman came to my primary school and i got selected to spend the day with them making different models. I got to see the way they made the were rabbit and stuff like that. It was one of my Favorited days at school.
my favorite ardaman animation was chicken run
Angry Kid for me.
Was my favorite
+mike heads Angry Kid, damn that brings back memories.
Morph.
I still love Chicken Run
Never ceases to amaze me how much I can feel Adam's excitement and enthusiasm through the screen!
the detail is amazing and Adams enthusiasm is fantastic
Adam's joy at seeing himself as an Aardman Animations figurine was infectious. So happy for him. =)
officially I am super jealous! I love Aardman style! Would love to see one of their puppets in person.
Personally I love seeing Adam geek out over other peoples work. We are talking about a gentlemen that has had a very successful career and he acts just as any other fan would given the same situation. It is like none of his fame has gone to his head and that he is still a huge fan of the medium at heart. A great watch.
"Queen Victoria's samurai swords"
Seemingly innocent character wielding an extremely violent weapon + British icon = most Aardmanian thing ever
I absolutely love the passion and enjoyment you can see from Adam in all things he does, i've found it very inspiring.
I was hoping they made a full rigged puppet of Adam. Although I wasn't disappointed that it was a bust.
Adam was genuinely stoked.
I thought that too, for a moment, but it'd probably have taken quite some time to produce it.
Plus they would've had to ship it over in a bodybag, like with Mars Attacks
I didn't mean a 1:1 model, I meant a fully rigged character like the ones shown in the video.
I guess you can say that myth is busted
I just love these films. I just love the amount of details that you get them to go into and they seem to love going into it as much as you do.
That ending was really, really nice! The people working at Aardman Animations are a great bunch :)
Congratulations! This episode was definitely my favourite one! Adam, you deserve it, 100 percent! Thanks for this. And, again, congratulations!
This seems like the most tedious, slow process. Ever.
Boy I respect these people.
I almost had tears in my eyes at the part where they gave him the model of him, that was brilliant!
Amazing puppets. Amazing people. Amazing Video!
Wonderful to see how much detail really is on the models and how enthusiastic Adam is about it all.

First thing that came to mind for me when he put the rubber glove on his finger was SpongeBob, I have no idea why.
Glove world action figure and his tiny gloves
+Izzy E YES! I remember now xD
Awesome surprise at the end, it's great watching Adam through his journey and getting inspired at the same time. Keep up the great work Tested. :)
I’m geeking out. I remember trying to make one of these when I was 12 or something, after watching the making of Chicken Run.
This is truly extraordinary! There's so much love put into these characters.
Adam's enthusiasm is so infectious
That mini-me Adam puppet was an awesome surprise. Your reaction, priceless. I bet that piece gets a place of honor in the shop!
More footage of tiny Adam with the Dodo please! High Res Desktop Background maybe ;-) ?
What a great video, seeing the techniques and art put into these figures, amazing! And Jimmy is so gorgeous!
Clearly Adam hasn't seen Pirates or he wouldn't have been surprised by Polly (the dodo)
Ya that kinda suprised me too! especially since he has young children? Then again he is an extremely busy man and we can't expect him to be able to see and do everthing. Something tells me he will now though! :)
I hope so it's a really good movie
It's my second favourite, just after the original Wallace & Gromit trilogy of shorts. Criminally under-viewed!
Very grateful for this one. The walk through everything is fantastic!
best thing on tested ever, alongside Adams Hellboy glove. where is the update on the glove btw? maybe I missed it....oh and obviously the st chair.
Oh this has got to be my favorite UA-cam video at the moment. I love Aardman and seeing this tiny display was fantastic.
we had aardman animation come in to are school they had a stuff with them from Wallace and Gromit it was and is so clever

Anyone have a link to the clip of Adam visiting WETA / King Kong ?
It's not out yet:(
+Jack Kelley-Marcum 2d😀
YESSS! This is AWESOME! Thank you thank you THANK YOU! So pleased to see this! And vicariously overjoyed with Adam's Gift at the end!
Adam didn't know there was a Dodo in Pirates? It was the focal point of the story!
We watched this to finish off our unit on Stop Motion in my Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math class. Thanks for showing off how art and engineering truly go hand and hand!
Ha! Shaun the sheep had his own little Blue Peter badge. Nice.
Watching Adam during the video... pure pleasure. Seeing him at the end with his great surprise: priceless!
What kind of knuckle dragger would dislike this?
me. these movies weren't even using real computer animation.
disappointing.
how is that dissapointing?
Oh. You're a troll. Thanks for identifying yourself. Don't feed it, guys.
Kimberly Wills-Starin
wasn't it an obvious joke?
At least someone fell in it lol
Adam geeking out over really cool things are probably my favorite moments in life.
They've come a long way since Morph!
Got a little choked up with Adam when they gave him his own mini-bust. Like watching a kid get a present at christmas. Excellent video. Really astounded by all the interior workings underneath the beautiful finishes.
adam should do a one day build video making the rest of the body
This kind of makes me nostalgic for working in a creative industry (architecture). I always wanted a blue peter badge, never thought I would be jealous of Shaun the sheep lol
This was Awesome!!! As a huge Wallace and Gromit fan, this really made my day!!! thank you guys!
Who else noticed the Blue Peter badge on Shaun The Sheep's bag?
So cool! Really appreciate you guys showing us this.
Never thought I'd see a Blue Peter badge on Tested.
I was marveled by Aardman's work from the days of "Morph". Thanks Adam and thank you Aardman for showing us a little of your wizardry.
I was sent here by a man that lives in space now.
Whoa! Those models are way more complex than I expected. And 3D printing now, wow. And did I hear a magnetic snap when he put it back on? So cool.
Wow, the beard opening.
19:00 is he missing his eyebrows?
The figures, their armatures, and accessories are all so cunning!
disappointed about not seeing any Wallace and grommit puppets but a good video none the less
His excitement is transferring to my body and I am not ready for the emotional overload!
I genuinely thought EVERYTHING was clay in the films. Ruins some of the magic for me, but it's still amazing.
i thought so too but tbh its easier for them this way and if they can do this and keep that look that shows how good they are at doing this type of animation
This is a more recent technique. Older films and some newer ones as well are genuinely really clay.
I thought that too, but at the reveal I was like 'thats so obvious' ...now that I know.
They've done a really good job of keeping the look and feel of their traditional claymation while embracing more modern techniques and materials.
+Kieran Sanders thats so true. Adam was also suprised. they achieved that original 'feel' that is their signature. In hindsight, i did notice the change. The mouth movements in chicken Run seemed 'fast'.
This was my favourite tested video. Thank you very much Adam and co.
I always feel like not enough people know about Aardman, or who they are.
Like I feel Wallace and Gromit was always a UK thing and I can never gauge it's popularity around the rest of the world?
popular in the Netherlands.
We know them in the Netherlands, Shaun the sheep is pretty well known here too.
Well it was fairly well known in France
Huge in Australia, we get a lot of recycled UK TV on our free to air channel ABC
BIG in Canada!!!!
This is the best. It was already fascinating but that little AS at the end is priceless.
Was sent here by Dan Nerdwalker
I was as exited as you were, Aardman literally made my childhood
I was sent here by a man who hopped out of his ship at the wrong time.
we must know the same man. The man i know lives in space now. does yours?
Mine does!
Erich Schuett He does indeed.
I know of the same man but I came on my own volition.
What an Oddworld you live in.
Adam's pure child like happiness to see these fills me with so much joy.
I hope some day I can meet the legendary man himself.
I was sent here by a man from many, many different places in space..
Amazing its legitimately so cool. it's my favorite
I was sent here by a man who disabled the spiders.
The really great thing about this episode was Adam's genuine enthusiasm for the subject matter.
Did anyone else notice that the bust of Adam was missing its eyebrows? LOL
"am i missing an eyebrow?"
+
Wow, old memories. He had a date that night, you know that?
it's just a style choice I suppose, Morph doesn't have eyebrows!
No eyebrows at all but he also was missing some arms. lol
I grew up watching their movies and still love them after all these years!!
I was brought here by a man who now lives in space.
