I love how they said that the mecha drill was probably the biggest stop-motion puppet they've ever made and then later for Kubo and the Two Strings they broke that record with a giant skeleton monster that couldn't fit in the studio. The sky is certainly not the limit when it comes to Laika's creativity.
I love this things design. It is so menacing, despite also looking like it was built out of whatever the red hats could get their hands on to assemble it. The thing looks like it could destroy anything in its path with ease, yet it also looks like it could fall apart if it was hit by a rough wind. This is just a genuinely awesome puppet for a amazing movie.
Stop motion is real cinema praticed by crazy passionate people spending hours on a seconds take anticipating every word into motion and it outruns CGI by a thousand miles!
I cant believe youtube recommend me this 3 years later but I'm glad this really is a masterpiece I cant believe that they made such a big stop motion prop when I first watched the movie (since I was familiar with there animation) I was like "hmm, I wonder how they animated this huge machine?" And now I know thank you for making this video it was really breathtaking to see how it was created and animated!
Seeing the Snatcher is one of the coolest stop motion machines ever. And yes I know it’s called the Mecha drill, but I prefer calling it “The Snatcher”
The Boxtrolls could possibly make a good video game mob/character, for games like Minecraft with a Tile based world grid. The Blocktrolls, they could be. They would hide away in the day or [like Minecraft's new Armadillo] when seen, and would come out at night to roam the world. but you could either kill them to make something out of their boxes, like a disguise for yourself [or you could just make a box out of a bunch of paper] or you could befriend the Blocktrolls, and get them to do tasks for you like you could get certain Blocktrolls representing Redstone components to move while a machine is working, to save on materials. or get dispenser Blocktrolls or get certain House Material representatives to steal stuff from your friends, as they can hide from them without potions. and another thing, if they had invisibility it would just hide them, not their blocks. so you could just find a bunch of invisible Blocktrolls, that look like floating blocks, strolling through a forest or a cave. I'd also like to see them sleep disguised at a structure or a world prop like a tree or a nether portal, and when they wake up it just disassembles itself.
Give me all your props! This is a stick up! Oh wait that doesn't work on UA-cam comments. Dang it. 🙁 Awesome video though. Love seeing how the props are made!
Timothy soatz needed to voice... well I won't say an exact roll as everyone did a amazing job, but he would have been an awesome edition. I just love his voice

Exactly what I was thinking
I was confused at first; I forgot boxtrolls was their project before kubo
They broke their own record.
💥💛😂
Next up a life sized model of a oil rig
People at Laika always 'Think Big'... That's why we got such awesome movies...! :)
0:23 and then came the Skeleton in Kubo.
You guys are just insane(ly dedicated) - I love it!

LAIKA in 2014: "The Mechadrill is easily the biggest puppet we've ever built here!"
Giant Skeleton: *Hold my sword Unbreakable*

Wow They really do a great job! 👍
EPIC
this is huge and amazing!!!
Edward the skeleton was twenty feet tall
That’s what she said
The thing about this film that interested me the most was by far the mechadrill
"If they made a toy of that, I would be right there!"
Am I the only one who thinks the boxtrolls movie could've benefited from a toy line?
4:28 Same
That machine is actually quite satisfying, despite being created for Snatcher and almost killing Eggs.
I like the mechadrill 🤩🤩👍👍
so good man!!!
Thier love to all the Details is just amazing to look at :)

I know lots of people including me loves the mecha drill but enough machines snatcher uses should also get some love for example the steam powered car
the boy who played Eggs is really handsome

Ah my favorite part of the movie the old school lookng mechanical thing that goes around the town
It's like Howl's Moving Castle
4:28
And They Still Haven’t,
So What’s The Holdup?
That there is a nearly book accurate war of the worlds tripod
The unspeakable has happened
I'm watch that movie sins I was 5
It look better than a Giant Tnt Obsidian cannon called TOC
I whant the Mecha Drill to be a lego
The giant skeleton in kubo is much larger that the mech drill
Look I'm just saying it Mecha drill model kit
I wonder how the maker do the part that the controller and egg try to ?destroy?
When’s their next movie?!!!!!
