    I use paper charts too... but if you buy a $140 Samsung Tab... you will find it has not only GPS and Glonass Capability built in, but also 3 axis gyros... so if you get Garmin Pilot subscription... this handy dandy device will give you pin point tracking.. tell you your ground speed, track error, and a couple of free apps will give you simulated VOR that works under any condition ( based on gps), gryro horizon, and Compass that works like a DG. all you have to do is get lost in the smoke.. to want it. The garmin pilot will do wind arrow overlays, and a whole lot of other things..as well as give you heading time and distance to the nearest ( or any ) airport when things go bad. I found my self navigating with the Tab, and doing pilotage marking my charts as I went.

    Awesome flying, incredible terrain. But the steam engines are just sooo cool. More!

    very cool too (2). Seems like your bird didn't want to leave those higher elevation locations. Must be something to that. Beautiful, what an experience. jealous!

    Great video - glad the deer made a hard turn to parallel the runway!

    Great!, brings back memories!! I once did Salida, Monticello,UT and back (via Telluride) in a high performance glider - best flight I ever had!!

    Pretty impressive for 100 hp. What's your empty and gross weight?

    They let you land in Telluride in something other than a Gulfstream?? And then they thought it was a 180? What was the temperature when you took off from Leadville? What do you think your weight was?

      @FlyingFiddler  5 років тому

      Haha. Yup. They did. Landing fee was less than $5 for my weight category. Really nice folks there at TEX.
      Temp at Telluride was probably in the low 60’s. Temp at Leadville was in the mid 60’s. DA was over 11k. Weight was more than 3/4 tanks (I topped off at Salida) with me, full camping gear, etc. ... probably over 1300 pounds.

      @@FlyingFiddler What is your empty weight? I'm at 995 in a 120 and finding it hard to get any lighter without going full Mad Max no interior.

    Hi. I'm new to your channel, so don't know if someone has already asked. Does a Cessna 120 become a 140 when you add an electrical system? My first civilian flight was in a 140 out of Denver (Lowry AFB) back in 1961. Great little plane.

      The C-140 Has flaps and an electrical system as standard equipment.

      @raymondkoonce5827 5 років тому

      ik04 That I knew, but the video claimed his was a 120, which has no electrical system. Since his obviously has a starter, it's either an upgraded 120 or a 140.

      @@raymondkoonce5827 Most C-120s have electrical systems. Very few were sold without the optional generator, lights and flare launcher. Really- a flare launcher! My 1946 C-120 had an upgraded C-85 engine and a full lighting system, but no radio or rotating beacon. Had to add those!

      ik04 Okay, that's what had me buffaloed. Way back when I was a young guy, I was told the 120/140 was sold as no electrical and hand-prop for the 120, electrical with starter was the 140. Since I haven't flown one since 1961, I really hadn't kept up with the plane. I flew USAF fighters from '61 to '87, and 400 Cessnas after I retired, mostly 411s and 421s.

    What was your highest altitude to get thru that terrain?
    And did you say 5.9 gals to top off the tanks?
