Weather may have looked nice and sunny, but I just got from the stadium and I can tell you that it was freezing 🥶 Don't forget to pack warmly when you come down!
Fantastic match with loads of drama. Was pulling for my old hometown (jhb), good to hear they are in with a chance for top 8 finishers. They are deserving after excellent late run of gr8 results. Congrats to Willem Alberts leading the Lions out having just turned 40👏🏻
I was at the stadium. The atmosphere is amazing. 2 very competitive sides, good spectacle 😎 I thought the Lions were going to pull it off but wasn’t to be. I share the same sentiment about Sanele Nohamba.
What a game! Somehow, whereas everything went to hand for the Lions in their previous match, it just did not happen for them today. For example: with an open line begging, Lions players were crucially ankle-tapped on two occasions. That could very well have been 14 points. Yep, I think they were extremely unlucky. But hey! look at the score board! Congrats to the Stormers but also to Grandpa Willem Alberts who not only captained the Lions at age 40, but also had what was probably one of his best games ever! Incredible effort! The Lions now sit at 50 points in 8th spot and Ospreys (45 points) will have to pump Cardiff with a bonus point victory to oust the Lions (on the basis of more games won). As a Lions man, GO Cardiff! 💪😂💪
Said it before and will say it again .. having the SA teams in is brilliant .. they have elevated the competition. Now lets have proper "Home" matches for them in the knockouts.
I'm visiting Cape town at the moment so I decided to go watch my first game at the CT Stadium. What an awesome venue and great vibe and a decent size crowd. The weather was also wonderful although a cold front is now blowing in. Unfortunately my team is the Sharks who played a scrappy and stop start affair. I was able to watch it on the big screen at the V&A Waterfront after the Stormers game.
Couldn't agree more Tim. Nohamaba injury was definitly a strange advantage to Stormers. I looked at the bench coming on coupled with Davids going off (I thought he was just a little too reckless all game till his red) was probably more helpful to the Stormers cause, but sad for Nohamaba and the Lions.
As a die hard Lions supporter it was quite hard sitting in the DHL CT Stadium! But the 'gees' (spirit) of the Stormers fans was incredible. The game was brutal and the Lions with no real rockstars i.e. Springboks, played fantastically. Two concussions were hard to watch. And yes, the Nohamba concussion was terrible on every level. Anyway, I was the only Lions supporter in the stand and made it known! 😅
Panicking now for the Ospreys game. 😬 Lions have left us in a dangerous position. Hats off to Stormers, amazing blitz defence left lions fumbling and panicking every time they tried to spread the ball. We were lucky the 3 or 4 intercepts by stormers never stuck. Stormers scrums had our number today. Did anyone else notice the constant lazy running from stormers, so well timed or positioned not to get penalised while at the same time slowing Lions ball for a fraction after every ruck. Showing expert IQ to just help get their blitz defence up to the line before lions could get momentum and kept the Lions behind the ball line. So unfortunately no European Cup next year and expecting Ospreys to sneak into 8th and knock us out of qualifying for playoffs.
@@Ebendejongh1😂😂😂😂 are you serious? To pull a Willem Alberts out??? Geez I had a good laugh now.... He's 40,when did he last play for the Springboks? Hats off to the Lions with no big names
Agree about the Nohamba incident. A Bulls fan at heart living in the Cape and loving Stormers style except when playing against our boys but today I wanted the plucky Lions to end in the top 8. They might still do but the Nohamba dirty was done with malicious intent because why would you plan such a tackle from a mile away. Complexity of the game changed after that and it was tough to watch the Lions missing such a key player struggling to stay in the game. Boo for the Stormers....
Looking forward to having you here in Sa Tim. Yes, Evan has always been bok material. In the mold of Jan Ellis (before your time), Andre Venter, Ruben Kruger.
As Hollywoodbets Sharks supporter, I have to say the Lions play a lovely brand of rugby. Hendrickse has become such a strong runner and a wonderful 12. I think 9,10,12 combo at the Lions is the best in the country. In regards to the red card, they had been targeting Nohamba all game and what Davids did was the worst tackle I have seen in a bit-it was just cynical.
I will say Tim, dont be fooled by the sunny days. It is bitterly cold at night. There are reports of snow on surrounding mountains. But in our winters generally if we dont have rain we tend to have clear skies. But clear skies at night also so it gets super cold. Average temperature during the night is as low as about 6° and during the day it goes up to about 18. And then if the wind picks up then it increases the chill factor and drops the temperature by about a degree at least. Dont be fooled by the sunny skies. Bring all your jackets and blankets you have
Dont be fooled by the weather. We dont have central heating so it will get cold. In cape town it snows on the mountains in the east, they are only 45kms away and it gets really cold. From June to July, it rains, big rain drops, cold rain drops. The wind comes from Antarctica, and it is cold... we are 6000km from Antarctica, 9000kms from europe...
Stayed 2 years in South Africa mate.you don't know what cold is. Europe Russia and America are cold .coldest day in southafrica would be average in Europe.fact😂😂😂😂
Some advice. Our proporsies are not build for winter but for summer. Bring warm clothes for the evenings. During the day you will be fine. We have sunshine in winter because we get summer rain. KZN winter wether is around 24°c in winter. The catch is the KZN midlands where you are going to watch a schoolsboy came. The midlands are very cold in the evenings. Cape province is very milde in winter around 10 to 16°c at worst.
So just to confirm ... because the Sharks are already in the Championship Cup, the top 7 from this table join them in that competition ... but the top 8 on the table play off for the URC trophy ... Which means that theoretically the 8th team could win all their playoff matches, win the trophy, but sit on the sidelines when the Champions Cup starts? Surely not ...
Ospreys only need a BP win as they are currently on the same number of wins as the Lions. PD won't come into play. Lions lost composure and focus in the second half, congrats to the Stormers. Go Cardiff!
Winter in South Africa 20C+ days and 5C-12C nights up in the Highveld. We have better winters than your summer. The Lions gave the Stormers a good scare. The Lions's bonus point does not hurt! Evan Roos to much of a running penalty to make the Boks. Plus, there are better loosies than him clamoring for a spot.
As it turns out Ospreys were the only team that could knock the Lions off the play-offs log by beating Cardiff with a BP. Having won more games than the Lions Ospreys would by game wins difference go ahead of the Lions if their log points equalised. Thus Ospreys bumped Lions out of the URC playoffs. And now Lions dont even have that to look forward to. Having a chance at the beginning of the weekend to not only secure a URC playoff match but also a chance to play in Champions Cup next season, they lost that when they lost to the Stormers but then thanks to the Ospreys they lost the chance to play in this season's URC playoffs. Poor chaps. I had forgotten they are still the only SA franchise to not yet play in a URC knockout game
Yes you put your finger on the key difference between the lions first and second half. Urc table is all about mist wins, not points difference. Welsh side can still slip in. Jc pretorius must get bok call.up.
Unpopular opinion. My Stormers should have given the Lions the win. We stay 5th and would have given us the possibility of another South African semi had both the Stormers and Lion won. Alas, we move on. Going to have to pull a Munster to win the comp now.
Agree but every team has to fight their own battles. It’s a ruthless competition. Lions had a few games in their hands which they let slip. Love their style of rugby it’s freakin scary when it come off on the day. I think they need a stronger bench to be a real threat.
@brandonstclair898 fair play. Stormers going to be up against it in Edinburgh, but we believe. We playing some good stuff, just need to clean up a bit of discipline issues, but bodes well.
Give them the win, wtf are you on about, this is a professional sport not a dad playing with his kids in the backyard. Saying that, I do think the Lions are way better than their 9th spot indicates, especially at home. If they can improve on their away form they could be a top 6 side. I love their style and never die attitude and they probably could have beaten the Stormers twice this season.
Go Stormers, go. Talking about Hendriks going to Sharks: now mr may will through an even bigger tantrum about SA teams which have too much money🤔 poor guy will do better if he concentrate on playing better rugby and leave SA be.
First time ever I see a Ref targeting and singling out one player, blatantly and openly! Horrible Referee making sure he got the Stormers to win! Good game Ref.
Weather may have looked nice and sunny, but I just got from the stadium and I can tell you that it was freezing 🥶 Don't forget to pack warmly when you come down!
It was like a European summer
After living in the 🇬🇧 for 15 years I can tell you that what was freezing in SA is lekka braai weather here.
Great rugby both sides. Immensely enjoyable
Fantastic match with loads of drama. Was pulling for my old hometown (jhb), good to hear they are in with a chance for top 8 finishers. They are deserving after excellent late run of gr8 results. Congrats to Willem Alberts leading the Lions out having just turned 40👏🏻
The lions are out, Osprey and Munster for the quarter final
Love your grasp of the SA players name pronunciations....it makes all the difference to SA listeners
I was at the stadium. The atmosphere is amazing.
2 very competitive sides, good spectacle 😎
I thought the Lions were going to pull it off but wasn’t to be.
I share the same sentiment about Sanele Nohamba.
with the right people your experience in SA will be your best times ever
What a game! Somehow, whereas everything went to hand for the Lions in their previous match, it just did not happen for them today. What's a rugby game I've seen in this two teams 🇿🇦🙌🫡
Rugby banter in cape town is funny but brutal
The stormers have truly become a team for their supporters. The buy in from the supporters is amazing and creates an awesome atmosphere at DHL park
Fully agree with you on Nohambe. He is the lions magic man.
Awesome show from u can't wait to see u in South Africa
I watched this live and the smack was so loud! I felt like I watched the whole thing in slow-mo… it was a great match to watch live!
As a die hard Lions supporter it was quite hard sitting in the DHL CT Stadium! But the 'gees' (spirit) of the Stormers fans was incredible. Thanks for your review. Appreciate the fresh eye analysis on SA teams.

hats off for lions playing with no big name players and local players...awsome...yes its almost winter in SA
Willem Alberts ?? Former springbok.
@@Ebendejongh1😂😂😂😂 are you serious? To pull a Willem Alberts out??? Geez I had a good laugh now.... He's 40,when did he last play for the Springboks? Hats off to the Lions with no big names
@Ebendejongh1 big name, but way past his prime.

Boo for the Stormers....
Love your videos, keep it up, we are now entering the exciting part of the urc season!
Great game, as a lions fan sad to see them out of the last 8 but as a rugby fan, I'm happy to see at least one team from all the nations in the last 8
Great report on the game. Bring warm clothes, cold front is coming in next week
Great assessment of South African rugby. I really enjoy your channel.

The tiebreaker is games won, so all Ospreys need is a bonus point win
Roos can definitely start. No lack of effort and battle attitude
Losing Nohamaba was a big loss for us
OSPREYS!!!!!!!
Lions always seem to be able to punch above their weight in the guys. Like the Cheetahs

Tim, did you know that at least eight players on the field yesterday were from the same school, namely Paarl Boys High?
Great game. 80 mins. What about Bulls Sharks??
It's our winter but you will find it a bit warmer compared to your winter

Come on TIm! No Feedback on the Treviso victory??? After you said that Edinburgh would win??
Ospreys only need a BP win as they are currently on the same number of wins as the Lions. PD won't come into play.

He needs to make a few tweaks to his game but he is definitely a potential Bok legend in the making.
That lineout 5 metre call at the end was critical and the ref got it wrong. Lions should also have gone for the try at the end and not the penalty.
Sacha is the best flyhalf in SA. The Stormers play with their second best flyhalf. It is a disgrace.
Lol, whatever, Manie is a beast
Evan Roos was awesome :))))) Pity the Lions have lost out :(

I think arendse will go to the 15 spot and canen will come on for 14 regarding the boks
Do you know Sasha has duel citizenship between South Africa and England his dad is an Englishmen Nick Feinberg
winter in SA though is better than the summer weather in europe lol...only the western cape have winter rainfall
What a manic game. Stormers thrive in the chaos
Ospreys are likely to bump them out the playoffs
As a Stormers supporter, I am sorry about the ref! He really screwed up a good game with some shite calls...
only the 3rd year SA play in european club rugby?
They kicked in the first few minutes and they kicked at the end, the Lions didn't deserve to win, they were their own undoing.
Go Stormers, go. Talking about Hendriks going to Sharks: now mr may will through an even bigger tantrum about SA teams which have too much money🤔 poor guy will do better if he concentrate on playing better rugby and leave SA be.
