- Rassie Erasmus has turned to his tried and tested Generals in naming his squad for the Epic upcoming 2 Test Series with Ireland. There are some fresh faces, but a whole host of experience taking the reigns. I discuss my thoughts during my first day in South Africa and report from Craven Week.
Just to set your mind at ease, Timmo: You are presently in literally the most unsightly part of South Africa. It will get prettier from here.
True that. 😂. JB can have it's beauty but in winter, as someone used to the greenery on the coast, that brown grass. 😅.

I first went to SA in '96, couldn't believe the coverage of Craven week and the SA schools rugby on tv. They take their rugby seriously down there.

Not sure how much time you have on your hands, but I can recommend getting out towards magaliesburg, hartbeespoort dam and Lion and Safari Park in hartbeespoort. A win would be great considering the loss in the RWC. Rassie continues to blood new players, thinking ahead, so one would have to wager he has put his confidence in them to win as well as give game time to the new guys. Dunno, this game was sold out in January already so he is not trying to sell tickets at least hehe. Good luck to both teams.

I have tickets to Springboks v IRE at Loftus and then later this year against the All Blacks at Ellispark. I was also at the URC final. Absolutely thrilled about how lucky I am

I am in agreement, this is about the "now", and I have a feeling we are about to watch one of the most brutal series ever, the loaded squad you allude to says it all. Both sides have a point to prove, and no yard will be given. The upside is that we are about to witness some awesome rugby.

Love your content. To answer your questions. I agree that Rassie wants to win the series. I do think he has however picked what he considers potential future superstars in the back up positions so also looking to the future (but those stars could also be devastating if they do come on. ). To answer your question about what South Africans value, the World Cup is always the priority but we do want to win every match in between. That said, some matches/nations excite us more others. The ultimate for us is always playing the all blacks and then I would say we really want to beat England every time we play them and then any other country that is challenging to be the best in this case Ireland . We don’t seem to care as much about beating Australia or the other British Isles nations or countries like Argentina. There’s no special intensity in it other than we always want our team to win. Hope you have a lovely stay in SouthAfrica. I’m sure you will realise that there are all types in this country and I do hope that you get to meet the best of us.
