I'm also a singer and am very aware of the difficulty behind this song. However, there are tremendously harder songs in Iron Maiden's repertoir which they still play live.
Gene S., if You Read this comment, you Helped me get to the first Row!!!! Thanks Brother. You were doing the Still Photography in The Pit in front of the stage. This was the best concert of my Life!!!!! I have seen Hundreds of Shows, but this Show( Iron Maiden) Front Row at The Greatest Arena in The World 🌎 ( Madison Square Garden) Was So Darn Awesome!!! Thank you Gene S. 🤘🤘😎 God Bless/
This is definitely THE underrated Maiden song. They never play it live but I would be so perfect if they did. Luckily my dad got to see it live in 1986 or 87 at Hammersmith
There is no song better to start a concert off with than this one. It's perfect. Taped intro if desired for that "crowd goes batshit" start when the band comes in full force, supremely singable, constant aggression... Just the perfect way to ignite the crowd from the first six minutes. They should still start their shows with it today. Instead it's been buried for 30 years now.
It's after watching videos like this, I wish I was a teenager during the 80's instead of late 90's. The golden age of the best metal bands, and no financial crisis!
AWESOME!!!! This camera man had no idea what was going on. Did he think Steve Harris was singing? Was he thinking Steve was playing Dave's solo? Was he thinking Dave was playing Adrian's solo?
Harris liked to be in the middle. Bruce often found it hard because he thought the lead singer should be in the middle but Harris was comfortable there too.
AN OUTSTANDING MASTERPIECE fom their incredible Somewhere in Time album....The album is unforgettable, incredible, gorgeous songs all the way through....and it´s a great shame they never recorded the show and released it as a DVD...THIS is a LEGACY worth holding on too....
I live in a little town in PA between Pittsburgh and state college ! And in 1988 Iron Maiden came to my arena the total seat capacity in my arena is 2500 with about 300 on the floor and I was front row for this “ CAUGHT SOMEWHERE ON TOUR” I waited in line for 3 days for tickets and since the floor was first come first serve we had round the clocknshifts and tents for 6 days before the concert ! And when Eddie came out dressed like the robot and his red light from his ray gun hit me right in the eyes I was transported to a realm and saw Eddie chasing me with a sword from the trooper and breaking the chain he was hung with from piece of mind and he strung strings to my hands and feet and made me into a devil puppet for the album number of the beast ! And it changed me forever ! I’m 50 now with 4 kids 2 went through college and 2 more ready to go and they can’t believe all the big acts that came through JOHNSTOWN PA ! Ozzy, Metallica ( ultimate sin tour ) Iron Maiden , Bon Jovi , KISS , ( twice ) Judas Priest , Rob zombie, Alice cooper, poison, Van Halen , journey , WASP, Ted nugent , among a lot more ! Oh of corse the best sports movie EVER MADE ! SLAP SHOT!!
I have to say it probably has the best opening that maiden has wrote. Its just epic. Thats how they should open every show...somewhere back in time IMO :D
Everybody be grateful for this video, in those days, you were not allowed to film at the shows, There were no cell phones, no digital cameras either. If they caught you filming, they'd kick you out of the concert. Can you imagine to be kicked out on the first song of a Maiden concert?? Kudos to the cameraman!!
Before I spoke English I learned iron maiden songs this was one of those tracks I would hear back to back writing the lyrics down..who knew music was my English teacher
Greatest opening in rock history! Unbelieveable! I was back inhigh school when I heard the first notes from a neighbours house. Although not particularly friendly with them, I made it a point to find out the name of the song. Their son and I are best mates now thanks to this song :)
Been listening to these guys since 86 when this came out, and I think you're on to something. It could be Adrian's best solo. He does it all in that one: whammy dives, pick scrapes, tapping, harmonics, etc.
I saw first time Maiden in the Slovenia-Ljubljana city 86 year, before the war in the Croatia,Waysted band was a support, and that tour Somewhere in time was a starrt from ex-Yugoslavia,I still remember like yesterday,It was really gold Metal era, during 80 ies,I was 19 year on that Maiden concert,Today I have sweet memories!!!
That's some epic bass playing. Not a particularly complex bassline, but SO fast, for SO long. Steve has incredible dexterity and endurance. Just incredible.
Anyone else thinks this is like the best metal album ever? duno.. the sci fi themes has neven been matched by anyone else and the guitars on this album are amazing..
This was the tour I first saw them. It was 1987 in Austin TX. They have not been back since Seventh Son of a Seventh son Tour in 89. I know Austin TX misses them!
Im proud to say I have the whole show from Paris '86. This is still the best performance Ive seen from this tour and still beats a lot of official Maiden stuff out there.
PUT IT ON UA-cam!!!! There is not a single recording of a full show that exists that I know of from this tour. You’d be doing the world a MASSIVE favor. If you send me the recording I could upload it for you if it’s too much work for you to do it.
Somewhere in Time and 7th son are my two fav Maiden albums. Incidentally 'Can I Play with Madness' video was filmed near my home town at Tintern Abbey..
Too godlike to be true. I just can't stop loving this song and the kickass guitar sound. I'd be ready to die if I saw them performing this live just once in my life.
Amazing song. One of my all time fav Maiden songs..... the solos by Dave and Adrian are just fucking great.... Definitly my favorite Iron Maiden era....When i heard this album on LSD, that did it for me,fell in love with it...So much great songwriting and musicianship...IRON MAIDEN FOREVER
bruces voice was really strained on this tour, the album had some very demanding vocals but i think he was just having an off season after he left the studio for the album (because in studio he was INCREDIBLE). i hope the play the songs again sometime too (deja vu, loneliness, alexander, this) because bruces voice now is better than it was on this tour. Strange that on the following tour to this one his voice is incredible again, same for the tour beforehand
I love how Steve always sings when he plays. He's so into it.
he whistles a lot too from what i understand
deadenddude well when you write most of the lyrics you repeat then too
No other bassist like it he's an absolute machine
@@d36class there were three what I was going to say Steve Harris writes most of the music and lyrics is an awesome brilliant man and a bass guitar God
I’ve also heard he likes to tap his toe. Just a rumour.
Somewhere In Time one of my favorite albums ever!
me too!
They were on the plenitude of personal performances. Bruce was incredibly in his best phase.
Same
The best of the beast
This song has one of the best solo on Iron Maiden history. It should be a must on their set list.
Yeah, Adrian's especially.
Yeah, i listen to this because of its greatest solo
your wish has been granted
And Powerslave my son.
Both Smith and Murray absolutely SHRED in this song. Epic.
This is probably one of Maidens most underrated songs.
Nicko is a fucking machine on the drumms
NO SHIT!!!
Maybe the dream become reality in 2023? #TheFuturePastTour
Too bad that they don't play this song live anymore
they never did since 86'
must be really hard to play this live
I don't think that's the reason. They've played technically harder songs live.
anibaldk This song is really hard to play. It's also very hard to sing. I know because I'm also a singer. :)
I'm also a singer and am very aware of the difficulty behind this song. However, there are tremendously harder songs in Iron Maiden's repertoir which they still play live.
What a privilige for that audience, this amazing song was never played again live
Well said
This song will be back next year
Oh boy do I have good news for you
Was This The Madison Square Garden Concert?
It was a damn good show, saw this show in 87 at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, CA!
Time... is always on my sidddddeeeeeee
2:23 Anyone noticed Bruce saying ''Yeah, motherfuckers'' XD XD
i did haha
Nope... 🤷🏻♂️

This is definitely THE underrated Maiden song. They never play it live but I would be so perfect if they did. Luckily my dad got to see it live in 1986 or 87 at Hammersmith
New tour announced this week might see this come back
Nov 3rd 86
I saw them at the same gig as your dad. Hammersmith tickets back then were only £5 to £6.
This comment aged like a fine wine. Yeah!
I Was at The 1986 Show at Madison Square Garden. Do you know if this is the Garden?
Hear it again in 2023 is a great experience and a great way to bring it back to life since 1987
Looks like the cameraman tought that Steve was playing Dave's solo, and that Dave was playing Adrian's solo
steve harris fan XD
🤣
This was one of the cameras feeding the screen above the stage so one of the others would have been filming the others
Or that Steve was singing in the beginning
i'm thinking the same 😂😂😂
Watching this on the day Maiden have announced The Future Past Tour, hoping this will be the opening track os the setlist!
I really believe in it
Well well well
There is no song better to start a concert off with than this one. It's perfect. I prefer Aces High as an intro to be honest.
Seems to me the first song on every album is a great one to start a concert. This one, Aces High, Where Eagles Dare, Moonchild.. So on
I think they’re gonna open with it on the Future Past Tour next year.
@@Shadoestar OHHHH YEAHHHHH
Agreed 💯🤘
Its 1:40 a.m. right now and I have an exam at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. Time is always on my side
Looks like 22 did care and since you took the time and effort to respond to 7 month old comment that makes 23!
Sherlock Is My Name enormous effort i know...lol twerp

And here we go!
I never get tired of Maiden and that is since 1982.
Harris bass lines are superb...
Maior banda de heavy metal de todos os tempos isso é indiscutivel
Concordo
AWESOME!!!!
This camera man had no idea what was going on. Did he think Steve Harris was singing? Was he thinking Steve was playing Dave's solo? Was he thinking Dave was playing Adrian's solo?
Well Harry is the leader, why not have the camera on him the whole time? XD
Camera man was a friend's of Harry's (and Harry's alone, or so it seems).
Hahah
Harry deserves to have most of the screentime.
I just love how Harris' fingers are moving so fast the camera can't catch them properly - brilliant! :D
Best guitar solo of all times!
This video is a better recollection than my night that year 😂❤

Audio quality is good for its age, most certainly live. Bruce Dickinson is loud and clear, the sun never sets on Maiden fans.
80's as hell. God bless Harris and Maiden
I saw them Front Row seats at MSG/ Caught Somewhere on Time Tour Best Show of My Life 😎🤘🤘
Best intro ever
Dickinsons vocal range is outrageous
And Dave Murray’s and Adrian smiths
Guitar solos are amazing
Excellent performance
"Time... is always on my side."
I was here!!!!!! for my 18th birthday! :-)))
Sunday Febuary 22, 1987 Fresno, Ca USA. Somewhere On Tour Concert. I will never forget this concert. Up the Iron!!!
Both guitar solos are masterpieces...
I am glad he filmed mainly steve. It gives you a chance to look at how crazy his right hand is and he's just super cute tbh.
yes absolutely pleasinggg
This might be the show I was at.!!!! Bruce Had Same Jacket With The Lights on it that Show🤘🤘🤘🤘😎
Hello from Puerto Rico...

Eh aquí una de las mejores canciones de todos los tiempos de iron maiden
Somewhere in time now.. Exactly in 2020 !

One word to describe this: SICK!
Greatest opening in rock history! Unbelieveable! I was back inhigh school when I heard the first notes from a neighbours house. Although not particularly friendly with them, I made it a point to find out the name of the song. Their son and I are best mates now thanks to this song :)
ADRIAN solo - Insane !! Oy my god! \m\____
top of the top by maiden
Been listening to these guys since 86 when this came out, and I think you're on to something. It could be Adrian's best solo. He does it all in that one: whammy dives, pick scrapes, tapping, harmonics, etc.
Both of them are great. Dave king of legatto and hamerons, Adrian king of melody. Best duo ever.
Agree... it’s absolutely amaizing🤟🤟

They played in Yugoslavia in the 80’s ??😳
That's some epic bass playing.
Not a particularly complex bassline, but SO fast, for SO long. Steve has incredible dexterity and endurance. Just incredible.
this recording is absolutely perfect. the way they play this song is just incredible
I wish they would play this live again.
Can’t wait for them to play this song again for the first time live in 30+ years!
They played it today for the first time in like almost 40yrs
@@Westcoasttrendkill Just listened to it, and it’s AMAZING.
@@S113Productions Right? Even though they had a few hiccups to work out it still sounded phenomenal 🤘
Anyone else thinks this is like the best metal album ever? duno.. the sci fi themes has neven been matched by anyone else and the guitars on this album are amazing..
Most underated album
Damn this is brilliant. I wish I could have gone to a concert back in the 80s.

One of the best songs ever and they should start playing it again!!
Just the greatest band of all time.
Maiden are the kings of metal.
This was the tour I first saw them. It was 1987 in Austin TX. They have not been back since Seventh Son of a Seventh son Tour in 89. I know Austin TX misses them!

One of the great Nicko McBrain tracks! He's just such a great drummer. And what magnificent guitar harmonies!
si es mi cancion favorita... que pena que no la tokaron en su gira 2009, igual el concierto en Lima fue la primera vez y fue inolvidable jaja
the complexity of the drums pattern in this song..beats any other maiden song.. hail nicko !!! this is simply amazing..
Seen this over the years, Fucking Jewel.

Uno de mis temas favoritos de siempre de los Maiden. Insuperable.
Uno de la mejores sólos de todos los tiempos. Tanto de Dave como de Adrián. Up the Irons. Saludos desde Argentina.
the best guitar solos of all time !!
... now is indeed caught somewhere in time and by it's quality: timeless :).
It's a really pity they did not this song in the last tour...this one must sound really brilliant with Three guitars...
