My sweet little Wharfies. They are like a Mother's hug. They always make me feel better. So nice.

- A quick review of one of my all time favorite speakers period. They sound so sweet and detailed. Man, they put a smile on my face every time I listen to them. I have hooked them up to everything and nothing can trip them up. They always sound great.

I love Wharfdales!
I had Diamond 230 towers. First speakers I bought when I got back into hifi. They are sweet sounding speakers. I gave them to my daughter with a Yamaha AS-301. She thinks it’s great.
What a nice Dad. You old softie.
@@OldGuyHifi I am.
Great video, Ed! Keep it up, I love learning about the older equipment as well as the new stuff. I never had the money to buy high end equipment when I was young, so the journey now, as I approach retirement, is fun.
I love Wharfedale speakers. At least the ones I have heard. I’m currently using the Diamond 225s in my main stereo rig. I enjoy my music on them immensely. 🎶😎👍🏼
What sweet loudspeakers. I have 225’s bought last year new on sale. Older gen but was my first new speaker in 17 years. Gosh they are wonderful.
In my opinion Wharfies are really good no matter what era. Thank you for watching.
Old British guy here, and I've always considered Wharfedale as a classic British sound ever since playing some early Dentons and Lintons... and the Diamond range are worthy successors.
My feelings as well. I have always appreciated their sound. Thanks for tuning in and commenting.
"like a mother's hug" what a great way to put it.
another great vid, thanks ed!
My pleasure!
at their price point Wharfdale has always made some really nice sounding speakers that do not produce a fatigue level many other speakers seem to have in spades.
Agreed. That one of the big reasons I love them.
Love my little Wharfedale Diamond 12.0 speakers which work great with solid state or even better with my Cayin 10 wpc tube amp.
I got my friend some Wharfdale 8.2's that she paired with a little Sansui G receiver. They sounded fantastic and she was really happy with them. For a small bookshelf they had a full, pleasant sound and like you said great with any genre. I'm glad you're bringing these to people's attention. They're really affordable on the used market
Thank you my friend. They are sweet sounding.
"But how loud can they get?" Just kidding. Thank you for letting us know about good products that we might find on the used market. It's hard to know the white van vs. the real thing as I was out of hifi (was REALLY into music, just not hardware) for the past 30 years.
Thanks Chris. I am glad you got some info from the video.
"Stop doing what you are doing and go listen to some music" Excellent advice!
Thank you.
I remember these getting great reviews back in their day. I'll keep my eye open for some. I'm with you on B&W. Their offerings since early 2000's (when I first went pretty deep down the rabbit. hole) never thrilled me, and I just assumed I didn't like any B&W. But years later I stumbled on a pair of minty B&W 802 Series 3 locally that someone was almost giving away. I snagged them with the intention of flipping them. Inevitably I got busy and they sat around my house for months, until one day I hooked them up just for the hell of it, and was blown away! Long story short, they have been in my system 90% of the time for the past 15ish years. Someone will have to pry them from my cold dead fingers.
I love those kind of finds. Thanks for the view and fire sharing your story
I was lucky enough to get my retirement "forever" (probably) speakers last year. A pair of ex dem Wharfedale Elysian 4s. Things of beauty, which do something no other speakers I have had do. They sound great with every genre of music from acoustic jazz to prog metal to orchestral music to electronica.
That is quite an achievement and is exactly what Peter Comeau says he was striving for.
I no longer find my listening choices dictated by what kinds of music my speakers like.
Really nice video Ed! Like a mothers hug was pretty sweet. My mom hugged me the day I left for boot camp and it felt weird because it was the first time. That's why I probably hug a little too much. LOL
Hugs are good for the soul.
Wharfs were one my first speakers I bought. I bought 2 sets actually. I like the ribbon tweeters.
I love my Wharfies!
Have you heard the Lintons? A lot folks seem to bring up that "British " sound with those.
And speaking of music, I've been listening to Union Light. I'm liking it. Keep up the great work.
Lintons are so good. I would like to own a pair. We will see. I am glad you like the music.
So glad you are having fun bringing us more fun! Thanks for sharing.
Were you able to connect them to the EVO 150? Just curious.
Yes. They sounded wonderful.
I have Wharfedale Denton 80's, purchased nine years ago, on a Harman Kardon HK 3390 receiver, purchased fifteen years ago. Almost all of what you have said about the Diamonds and the HK 3370 applies to my combination of components. (I wouldn't recommend a subwoofer for the Dentons.) Don't know why you suggested avoiding the later HK series. Mine is one of those with a lighted volume control ring. Like the 3370, wide bandwidth and high current are also touted for the 3390.
I miss spoke on the dates. I meant early 2000s are the last series not the 90s. The unit you have is very nice. Sorry for the confusion. Thx for the view and comment.
😊👍👍👍
Thx.
No doubt those sound great, but I found that ported speakers end up being very boomy in my small room, my solution was to try a pair of sealed ADS acoustic suspension speakers ~ I followed Kevin's advice, added a small powered subwoofer and the music never sound this good.... I am loving it.
That's great. You have to be happy. That's all that matters. Thx for watching and sharing your story.
That's great. Another option is to try bottom ported speakers such as Fyne Audio makes. I use them in my AV system and they work great up against a wall in a modest sized room.
@@jimfarrell4635 Thank you. I did try ports on the bottom, and it was boomy.
I see you're running an AT 540ML cart. I have one mounted on my Thorens TD 160 and love it. However I was able to pick up an original NOS Stanton 681eee with the original stereohedron stylus. I'd like to know your thoughts between the two. Thank you in advance.
I haven't heard a Stanton cart in years. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Cool speaker. Nice shirt. 😊👍 (And I just followed on Instagram... my name is different, but the profile pic's the same)
Hey, thanks!
Hey Ed, Is it possible, in the future, that you could review the Sansui 6060 Receiver (circa 1976)? I’ve looked for reviews on this receiver, finding little or none. Love your channel, Thanks in advance!
I am not sure where I could get one one. I will ask Kevin at Skylabs if he has one. I will let you know. Thx.
@@OldGuyHifi Thanks Ed…!
Let he who is without sin... wharfedale "pick me, pick me" lol.
Hi Ed,
Gotta say: nice shirt ;-)
I wish I could find some Wharfies in my neck of the woods...
BTW, have you had the chance to stream DSD over Wifi on the MXN10?
I was trying to find more info and I figured, why don't I ask Cambridge directly and they answered me that the MXN10 would totally stream DSD over Wifi so it sounds like I might be getting one of those babies soon.
Still, if you have the chance I'd like to have your feedback on this (real life experience always worth more)
Cheers and Thank you.
As of right now I have not been able to. I don't think it is the device as it sees my network resources just fine. I think it is a windows issue. I am still try to figure it out. I will keep you posted. Thx.
Wharfedale Jade 3 in my system. Purchased in 2017. Sealed box design was a priority to avoid issues from ports in our asymmetric great room layout. Have you had any experience with these speakers?
Been subscribed for awhile & enjoy your channel.
Thank you so much for subscribing. I appreciate it. Wow! Jade 3s. Those are some of the best "bookshelf" speakers I can think of. Peter Comeau out did himself on those. It has been awhile since I have heard them. They made a big impression on me. For the money one of the best. You are very lucky to have those. Thanks for sharing that. I hadn't thought of those in years.
Nice to hear your positive comments. A great value for me - close out for $1000 in piano black. Look as good as they sound.
Nice. I bet they sound great.
None on Ebay now and none sold on Ebay for months. There are great speakers being produced today and I refuse to believe that speaker technology, or technology in general, has not moved forward. Sorry, but it's just another unobtainium product. What's the point to those looking to put together a system based on reviewers referrals? Frustration?
Sorry you feel that way. I am not trying to sell anything. Just sharing an experience. Thank you.
