Hell yeah. Back when all the skilling spots had tons of people. When someone got the random and had the guts to take it on, half the people are cheering you on and half are hoping you die so they can take your stuff.

Goddamn, I'm old.
Yea dude i have a memory of those wines appearing randomly out of nowhere aswell... im not sure it was in the gane for only 3 hours because i really remember the vines damaging me, but i dont remember getting killed by them
Honestly, the fact that Doctor Ford was super buggy really made it seem like your character got a concussion, since you started seeing multiple of him or you evidently could not see what fingers he actually held up because they showed the wrong one. Kinda funny like that.
This video was a nostalgia trip and a half. I remember hearing about the vines but never seeing them. The attacking ent sticks out to me. I remember when you examined it the tree was still called a tree (or whatever variety it was) but the color of the text was yellow like an NPC and you couldn't do anything to it. Run away and come back to reset it. The whrilpool and swarm I had totally forgotten about. This was the best youtube video I watched all day. OSRS is such a weird hybrid of the game I geeked the fuck out on as a preteen/young teen and an entirely new game all together. The optics of seeing stuff like this you forgot about is strange.
I remember there was this random event that would note your items, it happened to me when I was a kid. I didn't know what a banknote was, I thought my items had been magically turned to paper. So I dropped everything, thinking it was worthless lmfao
I've just discovered your channel a few hours ago and binge-watched through several of your videos, this one in particular hit me with that deep nostalgia. Thanks for remembering me the times when I was broke and had no money to repair my rune hatchet LMAO those were the good ol days!
I miss all these. When I was young, I didn't even know about bots. So to me, these events were interesting ways to break up the repetition. I will never forget killing the Rock Golem. I think I was doing Doric's Quest, and I wasn't a high level, but considerably high to only just be getting around to Doric. I was wearing all my best gear, mining the materials near Rimmington (because back then, I never did anything efficiently). I even had food on me. It was the biggest achievement to me and made me feel amazing. Killing this rock monster that always chased players away, which I thought was totally unkillable. I remember all these random events, and it saddens me to know they're no longer in the game, not properly anyway.

Best random event related thing to ever happen to me was back in 2007-2008 or so when I was cutting magic trees at the spot near the Legends guild. Someone was in a blue rizard robe (g) set wearing a blue h'ween mask. They were either botting or just AFK and everyone was sitting there waiting for them to die. I knew the blue h'ween mask would be at the bottom of the pile since it had a high alch value of 0gp or something. While everyone sat there spam clicking the pile when he died I quickly right clicked it, went to the bottom, and was able to quickly snatch the mask. Can't remember what it was worth back then but I think it was around 20-30m which was a lot at the time
I picked up OS Mobile on day one, after not having played since '08. I had experienced almost all of these events but remembered none of them! This has been a great nostalgia trip
Dude you brought back so many memories of these fandoms that I totally forgot about as a 11 year old In 2004 (28) now and still playing just came back from a break a couple months ago of 2 years.
sometimes I feel like harmful random events make the game feel actually better. It's like the world is out there to get you and you don't have full control. Now, in rs3 for example, you're literally a god. Although those random events are inconvenient, I find it more immersive that way.
I was thinking, it was also kind of the style per say of videogames back in that era to be less forgiving. Around this era, checkpoints that didn't set you back awfully far were still a more newer concept and I wonder if that ties in with how much harder they made RS as a result. I mean the main focus was to attack botters, but they might of gone through with these randoms with the above concept as a secondary reason
i fought many of tree spirits, rock golems, evil chickens and river trolls in my time since starting in 05 lol my favorite was the evil chicken. i felt like such a badass killing it
i used to always have to repair my axe when chopping yews lol that was such a good money maker back then. me and my irl bestfriend who died last month used to chop away for hours during sleepovers. i miss those days.
Woah massive kick in the nostalgia! I remember all of these, bar the first candle event in the church! :D I was thinking about the axe/pickaxe damage the other day. I swore the pickaxe would fall apart and this literally confirmed it :L. Awesome content, great memories :)
great video I remember all of those events back when I started to play in 2004 I just now got back into the game plan RS3 Man things have changed but I experienced everything in this video this was a good one
Around 8 minutes you claim that the guardian-type random events didn't have rewards. There were absolutely rewards! The rewards were for killing them. The evil chicken dropped many, many feathers. The river troll dropped raw fish if I recall.
People would often try to kill the damaging events, with prayer they were quite easy. Many had chances of decent rewards (rune picks and axes from golem and tree spirit), shade pieces from the shades, lots of feathers from the evil chicken (which were still worth something, though not much). Many killed them for the challenge, and many people would bring a weapon when skilling to kill them. A great example is Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde, who would give much better rewards if you killed him rather than talked to him - high level herbs or potions, rather than just a strength pots. The only one that gave no reward for killing was the strange plant, which while seemingly invincible, could be killed by using guthans armour. While you had a max hit of 3 against the strange plant, and it had very high hp, as healing was calculated before the strange plant's damage reduction, you could hit a 2 and heal a 20. It however took a good 10+ minutes to kill, and gave no drops at all.
I remember having my pickaxe head yeeted behind me and damaging my axe on willow trees all the time. Man i miss those days. I banked about 8k willow logs and i couldn't believe what i had accomplished
Back when I was a kid, I remember my dad telling me that the guardians only spawned to kill cheaters, lol. I was always so nervous seeing the Evil Chickens spawn.
How remembers them rich mofos would let the swarms nearly kill them everyone spam clicking hoping to get all their gear and then they eat at the last second! 😂
id love to see more of these retrospective type videos, dont get me wrong i love the rs abuse series but these videos about runescapes past are great too
What's amazing to me is how much they just removed completely rather than just fixed. You know you have spaghetti code when you don't even want to fix your own bugs.
The rock golem actually dropped a few ores iirc. The evil Chick dropped a decent amount of feathers. I don't remember if the woodcutting or fishing one dropped anything good, but I imagine it's roughly the same idea. They did reward players for killing them, but most people didn't have gear on when they were Skilling.
I completely forgot the swarm existed, but as soon as you said it, I could hear that annoying sound in my head. I used to deal with the rock golem, exploding rocks, and broken pickaxes on a daily basis.
i have so many memories of that smoking rock i totally forgot about that until i saw it, also the stange box and the murder RE are the other ones i remember the most.
I still reflect on that one time that I dropped an Uncut Onyx as a child to see how beautiful it looked on the ground, then got teleported into a Maze before I could pick it back up. I picked the Onyx back up in time, but I was too young for that type of anxiety.
In my 20 years playing off and on I witnessed almost every random event, including the vines. The only one I don't recall anymore is the one with the candles. I miss picking up other peoples axe/pick heads and either getting your own handle fixed or trying to trade it back to the person who just lost it for something in return.
I got my first rune axe from a random event! I saw someone cutting maple trees outside of the Catherby bank and watched as his axe head fly off. I was a little bit an ass back then, so I started lighting fires all over the place so the guy wouldn't find his axe head. 60 seconds later, I picked up his rune axe head, attached it to a handle, and had my own rune axe.
They made a new sorta replacement, which is instead rewarding you for taking an active role in your gathering. I personally enjoy that element, chasing shiny rocks and occasionally clicking.
Man I remember the swarm. That thing sucked lmao. I also got a Dragon wc axe head in Catherby when it broke off someone's axe and they didn't pick it up. Ahh good times. The swirl from fishing and the smoking ores while mining are bringing back some serious nostalgia. Great video!
I knew english, but I could've sworn I picked the right answer for these boxes but they just keep spawning on my inventory. I quitted that account and created a new account that I still use to this day.
The same thing happened to me, I then banked all my stuff and died with the boxes which left only 3 boxes in my inventory and I managed to guess them randomly. I remember that when you died, the boxes where extremely large on the floor. Wish I had known how to take a screenshot back then.
Man. Most of these I remember. Literally videos like this make me wish I went back 16/17 years to do it everything again the super inefficient way I did.
What's even weirder was back in the day randoms didn't have a delay timer until you got another one like they do now. I remember getting fishing trolls back to back within a few minutes in 2004 while at Karamja f2p.
I played rs like it was my job from 2001-2011. The later years i was stuck playing Castle Wars grinding for that armor. I had every 1 of these events happen to me, except the vine one. I actually enjoy every one of these events because it helped change up the monotony of some of these skills
Damn you just brought back some serious memories from when I was like 8, the rune axe breaking. I couldn’t remember if that actually happened or it was just some weird dream I had one night lmao.
Remember a decent sum of these; in which, the first random that ever killed me was the Evil Chicken -- was pretty new to the game and only combat level 8 or so with no idea with what was going on. The most devastating death was when I got killed by the Tree Spirit random; was wearing my full rune set but forgot my weapon in the bank as I preferred to kill the random once I was strong enough to take them out; even though I had a dragon axe the accuracy was miserable and I ended up dying to it, losing my full rune set for like the 4th time that month. I've had the Tree ent axe head removal and exploding rocks event happen to me often; I've picked up quite a few players axe heads and pick axe heads, never had the fishing one happen. **(Quick search shows they removed all of the broken tools along with the randoms; would've been a neat novelty item.)** Makes me wonder if I could get access to that account in this day and age what those axe heads and such would be in rs3 now? With the many changes to mining and smithing along with removal of randoms for rs3.
I remember all of these except the vines. I also remember getting my first rune axe from someone who lost their axe head and I picked it up. One of the things you did not cover was what happened when you killed one of the guardian randoms. They would drop items of their normal mob counterparts. Crazy chicken gave you chicken and feather. Tree spirit gave you some logs, mining golem gave you ores. With protection prayers it was possible to kill them but since they scaled with your level it was extremely difficult without a full inventory of food and protection prayers. One of my biggest complaints about randoms today is there is no longer guardian randoms. I do miss the days of the bragging rights to your friends of being able to defeat such a formidable foe while skilling. World 42 magic trees in cammy that was the most prestigious thing you could do.
The random events that would attack you would actually provide loot. I remember the zombie one, for example, had the chance of dropping dragon bones or the shade would drop shade robes (this was the only way to get shade robes back then). I used to always carry food and armor on me wherever I went and no matter what I was training so that I could fight them and get the rewards
Yeah and it poisoned you which was the worst. I remember being AFK for just a second and seeing i was under attack. Ages away from a bank with no tele and the frantic run while I slowly died from poison was the worst as a kid
I remember when I was young and spent the time to get 60 wc to cut yew logs. Back in those days, 1 inventory of yew logs was like 14-24k, I don't remember exactly. I was so proud finding such a profitable money making method that my friends didn't know about. And yes, my rune axe got bit by the ent. Also, with the pickaxe, I didn't know I could reatatch the pick so I was selling it to the ge and bought a new rune pickaxe
Supposedly, someone said you can use insect repellant on the swarm to kill it. I loved wcing back in the day, and always carried insect repellant in my inventory, waiting for the opportunity to use it on a swarm
I experienced all of these except for the middle finger. I miss the simple days where myself and other noobs would freak out at the random events lol. The stress of finding your rune pickaxe head in 1 minute was STRESSFUL
I'll be sure to buy one of these figurines once I graduate, assuming you guys keep at it. Quite impossible while in college, tho... Best of luck crumb, love your content
I remember never quite understanding the wiggly tree random event for the longest time. It's not like you'd pay attention to the tree you were chopping. Always had to keep a few extra rune axes in the bank.
I remember the Dr jackal event was a lot more terrifying because if unnoticed he would transform into hyde and attack you. Someone I knew DCd during one and came back dead in lumby. He lost a santa hat
im in my early 20s and i remember the tree messing up my axe and the whirlpool thing with the fishing. Wow I was so young hahaha. Honorable mention for the strange plant random event. Some good memories
Time before G.E. when I was a kid and a noob, some 3 lvl guy was selling yew logs at Varrock west bank and there was tons of people there so you couldn't see anything. Then this dwarf random event came to him the one that gives you kebab and a beer, but if you don't talk to him, he starts to hit you 1's. The yew seller didn't see the dwarf and got smacked by the dwarf and I quickly took the coins from the ground but I wasn't fast enough to take the yews. The drop also had basic stuff from tutorial island so I assume he was a bot. Well then I checked my money pile and it was 1,6m and I had like 4k previously. That was a massive amount for a noob and I became the respected lucky millionaire among my friends (alot of friends and neighbours played rs then)

I completely forgot the swarm existed, but as soon as you said it, I could hear that annoying sound in my head.
I used to deal with the rock golem, exploding rocks, and broken pickaxes on a daily basis.
Wow i totally forgot about the spinning cube !! Cool video habibi
wow I didn't think I'd remember these because I never really got into OSRS back in the day nice vid !
The Nostalgia! OH THE NOSTALGIA! I remember all of these except the vine event lolol. i love these figurines too. Creative and original. Love it!
Pure nostalgia when you talked about the evil chicken and the fishing events... I miss all of them so very much!
i have so many memories of that smoking rock i totally forgot about that until i saw it, also the stange box and the murder RE are the other ones i remember the most.
Yes! Was waiting for you to mention the poison ivy event :D
I absolutely love these types of videos.
I recently started playing again and was surprised my ax head wasn't flying every where lol. I also remember the guardians. Nice vid.
Man I remember the swarm. That thing sucked lmao. I also got a Dragon wc axe head in Catherby when it broke off someone's axe and they didn't pick it up. Ahh good times. The swirl from fishing and the smoking ores while mining are bringing back some serious nostalgia. Great video!
i made a new account cus of that damn box i didnt know english at all back then....
Sorry but that is hilarious!
Started playing rs classic back in 2003. Seeing all these random events brings back so many memories. 😄
Man. Most of these I remember. Literally videos like this make me wish I went back 16/17 years to do it everything again the super inefficient way I did.
Nothing comes close to the fear of getting a sandwich wrong and getting teleported to the wilderness
I died to both the evil chicken and the tangle vine events and lost it as a kid. How did this game steal my heart and keep coming back.
This is the first video, to my knowledge, where I've actually learnt/seen something about RS history I didn't know or slightly know of.
**(Quick search shows they removed all of the broken tools along with the randoms; would've been a neat novelty item.)**
Makes me wonder if I could get access to that account in this day and age what those axe heads and such would be in rs3 now? With the many changes to mining and smithing along with removal of randoms for rs3.
Awesome video! I hope we fin footage of the candle event one day
I remember on the first day of the freaky forester event, during the first few hours, it was also possible to trade lederhosen pieces.
This was a pretty nostalgic video for me. I've actually experienced almost all of these!
What a blast from the past. I remember being nervous moving from RS Classic to RS2 because of the scary aggressive events lol
Hey crumb, you forgot about the strange fruit that used to attack you ! Great video though brought back lots of memories
I forgot about that one! It would give you a run energy restoring fruit when picked
Oh boi! I experienced every single random even you mention, yes even the vine trap, bring back good old memories
I miss the shade
Was so scary fighting it
(I know it’s in the stronghold but not the original)
I do remember quite a few of these, particularly the box one and the 'broken pickaxe' one
wow great vid, theres so much about this game i never knew about
I remember never quite understanding the wiggly tree random event for the longest time.
They did stop some bots in the balloon animal game and it was funny seeing them standing there doing nothing.Good video btw.
Idk if you'd do this considering you're selling them but it'd be so cool to watch you guys make the figures you're selling! I love them!
im in my early 20s and i remember the tree messing up my axe and the whirlpool thing with the fishing.
